Charlotte and her son provided excellent service and the beer is always good and the garden is well kept and the cheese and onion crisps were good better than Ricardo's portion sizes... thanks a million Charlotte..

Lovely pub, let down by an awful male member of staff. Absolutely no service skills or empathy, provided no alternatives to sold out food, just said no we don’t have that. Gave no expectation of food times, took 55 minutes to get a burger, burger turns up over done, dry, onions were not cut today they were old and withered like they’d been cut a week ago. When asking for reasonable response. The lad behind the bar, got all funny and defensive. Smirked at us and didn’t care, absolutely no empathy or customer understanding. Food was sub par, egg n chips, over done eggs, burgers nuked and chips over fried. Would not recommend the food whatsoever, Real shame because the garden is lovely and the other staff seemed somewhat reasonable.

Been a regular at the Lion for many years, lots of ups and downs in that time, it had been allowed to run down in recent years, and was hoping for good things, but initially had my concerns that the pub chain hadn't made the most of an ideal opportunity to make improvements across the board, in short a bit disappointing, however in the last 2 or three months there has been a marked improvement in service, quality atmosphere there are a few new faces behind the bar who seem to coming on well, presumably getting a higher standard of training either that or the selection process has improved. I've mark the food in the middle because I've not tried it, but what I've seen coming out of the kitchen looks pretty good. Hopefully the place continues to improve as it has been recently.

Usually love this place. However this morning visit was very disappointing. Arrived for a brunch at 10am and was told they didn't open till 12. Once in my reservation for 8 was not made but it was empty so we moved the tables ourselves. Staff was rude and miserable. Hot chocolate tasted awful and no biscuit and spoon. Food was cold, bacon burnt bread was not bloomer, just cold toast. No avocado available either. As a frequent visitor I was more disappointed as this is not the usual standard or service.

Came for brunch with the girls great service and the breakfast was excellent and great value. Been in a few times recently and the girls that work here have always been lovely.

Very basic food, "Thick cut gammon " not!! No customer service as u have to order by phone from the table. It seemed too much trouble for the staff to do anything. One table was left with empty plates for over an hour. Not gonna rush back. Definitely not disabled friendly

My first visit yesterday to have lunch with a friend. Really good selection on the menu with some unusual choices. Our lunch was absolutely delicious and a very reasonable price. I know my friend visits regularly and always enjoys it- I wish I lived closer!!!

Had a really lovely birthday lunch at the white lion. Love the re-arranged seating area and other new parts.

Had a brunch this morning, eggs were great and the sausage nicely cooked. Loved the new napkins fit on the plate. Kids loved the cheeseburgers

Best avoided. Plenty of better places near by. Food is below average Beware of parking fines.nobody mentioned registering your vehicle.

Edited: I didn't mean four stars as a score, the food and atmosphere were good but the service today was appalling A hot, sunny day with a local May Queen event on and we have two people on the bar. One is running food and the other, apparently the assistant manager, is so slow. Queuing out the door for a drink is not what people want. Surely on a day that good weather plus a local event that has been known for days a few more bar staff would have been a good idea. And won't get to the toilet situation, a urinal out of order for over 3 months and now the ladies toilets out of order

Went today with sun out and mayqueen parade on- the pub was packed which is great- at that point it all went wrong- 1 member of staff behind the bar and one running food- naturally queues formed and the waiting time increased to 25 mins to get a drink if lucky- the poor staff who working were clearly under pressure and it couldn't have been a nice shift- I witnessed people leaving and going to the horseshoe to purchase and return with drinks and others just leaving out frustration- It was.not enjoyable so we left and went the bull at chelsham common- which was lovely-a lovely experience

We Came in here today for my nans birthday I ordered 2 haddock and chips the man behind the bar said 2 ham, egg and chips I corrected him straight away and said no two haddock and chips and did the rest of the order! When I got back to the table I said it was cheap and asked the server to double check my order had 4 dinners he reassured me it definitely did low and behold a hour and 15 minutes after we ordered 3 dinners arrived! I had to sit here and wait for the dinner to cook for yet another half an hour for the less than palate pleasing dinner and eat without everyone else as they had already finished! the man who took my first initial payment came over and said twice I don't know how that happened and asked for payment for the meal not even a curtesy for his mess up!!! Absolute joke of a place I would rather go anywhere else than here the staff are rude, ridiculous and fully incompetent it would be a better establishment if run by 8 year olds! Please go anywhere else even McDonald's!!

Had Sunday lunch and a couple of drinks there this weekend - would recommend it.

Avoid ordering Sunday Roast. We ordered 3 Sunday roasts for delivery Gamon, chicken and beef. Absolutely appalling all veg dried up meat had a tangy taste to it roast potatoes cold. This is for sure the worst roast dinner I have ever tasted. In future will stick to the horseshoe or Toby carvery. Much better.

Lovely Sunday Roast- would recommend

Nice pub, was very quiet but to be expected for a Monday late evening. Good selection of beers including 0 alcohol IPA and cider.

Food was very good, hot and was quick to arrive. Reasonable prices and friendly service.

I visited the White Lion as it is local to me and I have an Ember loyalty card. Service was great. Food could improve, just warm. You need to improve on your loyalty rewards and how they work!!

This pub is a complete joke. How can you stop cooking food between 3-4 pm! They could learn a lot from the The Black Horse in Locks bottom which is really managed well.

Good had a meal 6th January 2024 food and service 100% but sadly had to leave abruptly owing to the fact that the door people use could only close with a BIG LOUD BANG most annoying to think that an adjustment would only cost about £20 shall return for a drink and see if the annoying door has been sorted

Food was very good indeed: fresh and perfectly cooked, nice crunchy vegetables. Service prompt and friendly. Especially impressed as this was the second sitting on Christmas day!

So Boxing Day experience. No one obvious to show us to our table so we had to look for it. No one explained how to order, did have QR codes though told signal not good. Long wait to order food only 2 staff on duty. Food was average, roasted root veg had not seen an oven. Not really a meal I would recommend.

An average pub ruined by the Parking fine received after we left. The car park is so dark you can’t see the signs and assume it’s a free car park for paying customers. When i called to question the ticket they were very helpful and said they would cancel it but this did not happen. 6 weeks later I’ve received a final warning which is not what you want just before Christmas. The ticket has now been cancelled but caused me a considerable amount of stress and upset as well as wasted time calling the pub to request the ticket is cancelled. We will not visit again and will spread the word to friends and family to avoid.

A lovely old local pub to us. Very pleasant staff but they were short staffed . Our meals were hot and on time ( pre/ordered) The table was laid with festive decorations and crackers . We had a noisy table near us which was the only spoiler for atmosphere.

First course came out cold, told waitress and asked her to make sure main course was hot, came out cold and steak inedible, no sign of waitress !!!! Give it a miss

Used the barcode to order and pay; disastrous! Had to ask for drinks 20 minutes later. Kids’ desserts were brought out first! Beef gravy with the chicken pie and gravy was vile. Sea bass and carbonara were delicious

One of my party was a little disappointed with the posh fish finger sandwich - she expected more of an artisan type bread rather than just slices from a loaf. I wanted to order on the app but could not upgrade to sweet potato fries for the posh fish finger sandwich, the option was not available on the app. I therefore had to go to the bar to order

Lunchtime visit. Burger was nice. Fish finger sandwich was ok, but really oily. The crisps on the side were stale and the salad was wilted. The background music is louder in the garden than in the pub.

Local pub and a real local ambiance. All one need to be open and relax the fun comes to you then. Great food wonderfull time spent.

I am completely appalled by the management team at the white lion in Warlingham. For the way in which I have been made to feel & how i have been treated,following a very volatile & aggressive situation. I own a business, I work very hard & am liked & loved by people who know me well in the community. I was at the pub approximately 8 months ago, and was approached by a new partner of an "ex partner" who I have never met before in my life. She approached me & said "can we go outside for a chat ".Confused I followed her outside, sat down & began listening to a barrage of insults. I got up and walked bk into the pub to diffuse the situation. This resulted in me being antagonised for approximately 3 hrs under the watchful eye of vanya who did absolutely nothing. I had sat talking and laughing outside with vanya earlier in the day, and as soon as this happened she did nothing . As a manager of the pub i would expect things to have been dealt with properly to defuse the situation .This woman twice my size and very aggressive followed me into the toilets twice. Not one member of staff came to see if I was getting attacked or if I was safe, after witnessing me being bullied for hrs upon end . Before I left the pub I was approached one last time & almost jumped by this person for responding to being insulted. She was held bk through the doors by about 10 people (customers/friends. I quickly pushed another door to get away. Unfortunately my hand pushed the glass instead of the wooden door frame and the glass cracked in slow motion underneath my hand.I could have slit my wrist had my hand gone through the tiny pane of glass. I just wanted to get away. only at the point of glass cracking did vanya step in and have something to say b4 calling the police.Strange I would say ,seeing as she had more concern for glass than my welfare n safety as a regular customer.police arrived and we were all asked to leave .Since this incident I've not been allowed bk to the pub. I have been made to feel like I am looked down upon . I called vanya 4 months later and she said she would check cc TV and get bk to me. I never got a call bk and have since been ignored . I have been into the pub twice since the incident to speak to a manager on my way home from work .The 1st time i was escorted out by aimee who made me feel like a criminal on a murder charge . A person who normally speaks to me,laughs and jokes with me. This is a pub where I eat drink & am polite to people. I spend more time cuddling peoples dogs & fetching water for them, buying people drinks and doing admin work on my phone & laptop in between talking and laughing amongst friends. I have never been involved in a situation like this before. I have been bk a second time.. yesterday in fact, and the small pane of glass still hasn't been fixed nearly 8 months later! . The pane of glass that is apparently the whole reason why I'm banned. A pane of glass that wasn't cracked intentionally, as truthfully explained above. I would like to understand how if the glass is so important & everyone is so fixated on it . Why has it not been fixed ?. Its a hazard to anyone drinking there. I have offered to fix this pane of glass, as a means to move on & not be penalised or profiled based on it breaking to begin with.The pub seem to enjoy it remaining broken. I was totally let down that day, & have been treated like a criminal in a situation where I was the victim. I've been treated different to all of the other people who have had worse incidents in this pub. These people are bk in there. people have messaged me saing i was totally attacked that night. They cannot understand why I have been banned. I had to find out through friends. Was never told directly & have no written evidence to solidify this .From now on I will be going into the pub unless given a valid explanation & legitimate reason why i cant . In fact there is no valid explanation. I would like someone to contact me to resolve this.Theres a difference between intentionally with aggression & an accident !

A group of us visited the White Lion for a meal on Saturday 16th Sep.7.00pm and in rememberance of a dear friend lost to cancer. The pub was quieter than usual. We attempted to order at the bar as usual but found many meals not on or run out. We eventually ordered, an alternative in most cases, to what we wanted. After a considerable wait food came up. Scampi, Rock hard, Lasagna burnt, I could go on but in short will not be returning again. A complete letdown. Sorry White Lion, your standards have dropped and lost our custom.

This pub is by far the best one in the entire of Surrey, the staff are always extra polite and the food is amazing.

My son forgot to put his vehicle reg in the machine. He saw no signage and no staff members reminded him to put his reg in their system. Since then, for spending his money at this pub, he has been repeatedly victimised and harassed by Euro Car Parks who have now passed it onto Debt Recovery Plus. My son has attempted to contact the white lion directly, but all communications have been ignored! And the phone never gets picked up! This pub does not care about customer service and clearly charges dearly for what should be a free car park for paying customers! Disgusting and none of my son's family will go near an ember inns ever again! This is how you lose paying customers!

This is tricky as work in hospitality so understand how hard and underpaid it is but honestly I’m not sure I will be rushing back to the white lion. A lovely evening we had but for me personally the food was terrible .. I had the steak .. chewy, horrible .. left a lot of it. From the moment we sat down, sticky table and a rocky table .. asked for candles to be lit … service good.. Manager under pressure friendly but working too many hours and probably not appreciated or paid enough! But we spent a lot and had a good evening so thank you for that .. x

Starter, cheesy garlic ciabatta was lovely, scampi and the peas were both overdone, so very average. Fizz weekend was advertised for prosecco type drinks after 5pm so I tried to do this, and then was charged normal prices, was then advised it needed me to download the app, which wouldn't open the code, due to poor signal in the pub, the bartender then advised me you're only saving 2.80.... so I paid, just not great service and not advertise that you need the app to qualify. The waitresses were very efficient. Overall, maybe a 6 out of 10 for the experience.

Great historic pub with a lovely spacious beer garden round the back. The manager was very welcoming and supported her staff with rigour. Andy was very helpful in accommodating for my disabled friend who required wheel chair access. Will be back during the Christmas period 👍

Sadly despite visiting this pub regularly for the last 15 years I discovered today that this is not the pub to go to on a sunny Sunday afternoon if you have children and want to sit in the garden for a quick bite to eat. The staff were incredibly rude about our three children who were causing absolutely no harm, or noise or damage. We left feeling very insulted and will not be returning any time soon.

Nice garden, pleasant staff. But watch out- got a parking ticket £85. The staff didn't mention this and ask 'Have you paid for prking?'

We walked in and no member of staff was to be seen. We wondered about trying to work out where to sit and what we needed to do. We didn't know that you had to use an app to order. The app wasn't working so then had to order at the bar. Just not a relaxing meal at all. I don't recommend anyone trying this place.

Lovely looking pub, staff fantastically friendly and very attentive which is why this is 2stars. The food however is atrocious. Breaded mushrooms were drowned in oil, crispy chipotle chicken was 3 tiny pieces of chicken for ~£5 and the steak & chutney ciabatta was a small cold steak in a French loaf style bread that wasn’t even toasted so just became a soggy mess, and the steak itself was full of gristle so most of it inedible. Additionally confused by the seasoned fries which costs and additional £1 but appears to only have salt on them? I’d come in for a drink as the staff were friendly but would never recommend the food.

Nice old pub and lovely staff, but I think the food was very ordinary, I had a chicken burger and it was dry and very basic.

A little boy running around keeping up with the big kids was highly entertaining and the food was fabbb

Despite there being quite a few "app exclusive" deals, the app doesn't actually work. Ended up having to show the broken app to the bar staff to order. When it came the food was pretty poor, but it was a decent price so can't really complain. Cheaper and better choice of beer than the Horseshoe next door though.

As always The White Lion offers a friendly atmosphere,old world charm and a good range of draught beers and excellent food. Staff are always friendly and efficient.
