just came by for a meal and had a splendid evening all around! the food was expertly crafted and service impeccable. hats go off to the team that night as it made my day! special thanks to eve who served us.

We had a table booked here on Friday 23 August at 13:00 for four people. We can honestly only speak as we found. None of us had been here before and when we arrived the building is an old character building with plenty of car parking spaces next to a roundabout on the road to Godalming. There are plenty of steps to negotiate but they also have a superb ramp access facility which would certainly assist many who need it. When we walked in we were greeted very warmly by a lady behind the bar and she took us through to our table in the restaurant area. The place at this stage was empty as we had all turned up nearly 45 minutes early for a drink first. Service was really good and efficient and we were mainly served and looked after by the excellent Charlotte😊. The lunchtime menu offers a really impressive value two and three course option. We actually had two people having the two courses at £18:95 and two having the three courses at £22:95. All the meals were simply superb and the value was excellent. The only negative and that was not an issue and I blame ourselves for not noticing, was that we were actually charged for three (two courses) and one (three course). This meant that the Home Baked Triple Chocolate Cookie with three scoops of ice cream option which was actually offered on the set lunchtime menu was charged separately at £7:25 on our bill. We only noticed this when we got home but have really only mentioned to highlight to others to check your bill more carefully. Our total bill with drinks came to £129:45. Bill, Acc No 2266 so great value we all felt. Anyway we all had such a great time that we never really wanted to leave, and in fact ended up sitting in the garden area with coffee's until nearly 15:30. We did sit for a short while wondering what we had to do about drinks outside and in the end went inside to the bar to order the coffee's. We would all certainly come back here again without doubt and would highly recommend to others. Thank you for a great visit.

We were looking for a suitable venue for a reception/wake, none of us being familiar with the area, but I had been to the Inn on the Lake for a similar event some years ago and remembered it. A pretty hotel and easy to find, our reserved area was private with easy access to the bar and a nice relaxed and easy-going atmosphere. A display table and the generous fireplace ledge were handy for memorabilia. We pre-booked the buffet a week ahead, the choices were interesting and varied and the prices reasonable. Variations to the choices where possible for dietary reasons were accommodated or alternatives suggested without any fuss. Very little food was left so obviously popular. Our staff were very nice, respectful, helpful and attentive and the buffet was laid out beautifully. Everything went well and we were all pleased with whole afternoon.

Had a lovely meal with friends here. We were given a really nice table and the food was excellent. I had the cod dish and it was probably one of the loveliest bits of cod I have ever had.

Booked the whole hotel (20 rooms) for 2 nights. The hotel, grounds, pub area inside and out were all clean, tidy and well maintained. The staff were very friendly but unfortunately the manageress/owner could be quite rude and snappy at times. We had an evening meal on the day we all arrived and everyone seemed to enjoy the food and the service was good, unfortunately breakfast was a let down, some meals arriving cold or over cooked, the black pudding and hash browns were so over cooked they were impossible to cut or bite. I felt they were understaffed with the owner/manageress taking the orders, serving the food and clearing tables. As a large group we did not expect us to be served all at the same time especially as we all arrived, ordered and sat at different times, but we did expect the breakfast to be cooked properly and served hot. Breakfast was very disappointing especially as we had such high hopes after the dinner we had on the night we arrived. If properly staffed I felt this could had been avoided. Also I must say many of the group were happy with their breakfasts but more were not. Even though the manageress/owner probably felt under pressure with the hotel being completely full there is no need to be rude and snappy.

The food is quite nice - although quite expensive. The setting is lovely but the service is a bit hit and miss. I’ve eaten here a few times and seen a common pattern: when you’ve been sat down outside there is no indication whether you should order at the table or inside. The staff themselves are fine but I think they either need more staff or they need better training. The food itself is quite nice but not fantastic given the price.

We enjoyed an 80th birthday party here. Service was excellent, from start to finish everyone was extremely helpful and I have to say the young lady who looked after us on the day - sorry I did not ask a name - could not have done any more, right down to the taking of the group photo posted with the review. We had a section of the venue set aside for us, food well-presented and as ordered, everything we needed. Perhaps if I were to do this again, I might ask to set up in the garden, but I did not want to risk the weather. Of course, as we were indoors, it was a pleasant dry afternoon! Although we said we would be 2 hours, we were 4 hours in the end. No one came to chase us away or impatiently tap watches, etc, we were given that flexibility which meant a relaxed time for all. Edit - now that I have that name, Matilda, an extra special thanks for looking after us, definitely a gold star performance and I hope you are on hand to look after us for mum's 90th birthday in 10 years 😀

Appalling service here and we paid a lot of money for our rooms for a special family event. My elderly parents arrived 8 mins early & enquired about check in to be told abruptly they were too early. 2/3 rooms were not ready at check in time, I understand these things happen but the welcome was unfriendly and it’s how you then deal with it which is important and good customer service would have made all the difference. Was told it was due to last nights customers all checking out at 12noon. Surely you plan for this eventuality as that is the check out time given. No smiles or welcome, no instruction as to where our rooms were or breakfast plans. Ordered bar snacks, didn’t all come out & had to chase then carry out ourselves. Empty glasses & cleaning products left in hallway. Boiling rooms with fans in only 2/3 bedrooms, couldn’t get window open in one room. TVs didn’t work in all 3 rooms, no answer when tried to call down to report. Breakfast was okay but a couple of the dishes were very poor and overcooked. The twin bedroom wasnt split into a twin, I did give feedback on the day and they split the beds and left wine in the bedroom but a warm welcome and some care in the staffs attitude would have made such a difference. I was shocked at how poor and unfriendly the customer service was for our duration. There are far better places you could stay for this money, I’ve had better customer service in low budget hotels, very very disappointed and it didn’t feel special at all.

A single night stay, while visiting family that live in Farncombe. At first a bit weary that there might be lots of noise from the bar or road. Well, we were gratefully surprised when the rooms were well sound-proofed, even with the windows open. Divine shower with excellent pressure and heat capability. Best night sleep in a strange bed for a long time. Super firndy and helpful staff. Will totally return for the rest of the experience, especially the lake!

I am presently staying at The Inn on the Lake Godalming. The room is good as is the housekeeping. I am especially disappointed with the Breakfast. In the fact it is only a cooked breakfast included in the b&b price. the cereals porridge yogurts croissants muffins fruit and toast and jam are available at additional cost. The staff are friendly and accommodating.

Home from home! Absolutely loved staying here. Don’t often sleep well in a hotel but slept like I was in the comfort of my own bed. The hotel has been planned to perfection. They’ve got the place just right. I even made a note of the brand of the iron that was in the room! My only regret was not booking for a week instead of just 2 days. Staff were amazing. Phil, Jess ( my fellow Essex girl ), Matty and not forgetting the amazing chef Kamil. Food was top notch. Thank you all

Went for a Father’s Day breakfast. First there was a dreadful flowery perfume wafting through the dining area, from the direction of the toilets near some tills. It was incredibly off putting and headache inducing, which did not entice one to want to eat. The service wasn’t horrible at first, but after the food arrived at the table, it left a lot to be desired. As for the food, was very hit and miss. The hollandaise was curdled and had no acidity, when I mentioned this, the server did not offer do take it back to the kitchen, but rather offered to bring me lemon juice so I could add acidity myself? This was a first. Needless to say, I’m so relived I asked for the Hollandaise on the side, because it was gross. The poached eggs were great, but the muffin had not been toasted at all which made the Texture of my Eggs Royal awful. My son’s breakfast was an excellent portion size, however the hash-browns were hardly cooked, whereas his scrambled eggs were so over cooked they were inedible. We waited AGES for a staff member to get close enough so we could get their attention to send the eggs back. The place wasn’t even busy, so we would have thought the servers would be a bit more attentive, no one even came round to ask how everything was… which was disappointing. The remade eggs were fantastic, but we were pretty much finished by the time they were taken care of. I will not be going out of my way to go back anytime soon, which is a shame because there are limited options in Godalming. Sorry guys… do better.

I recently visited Inn On The Lake in Godalming with my boyfriend, and we both absolutely loved the place. The steaks were the best we've ever had—absolutely amazing. The atmosphere of the pub is just stunning, creating a perfect setting for a memorable evening. The manager was incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The garden is also beautiful, adding to the overall charm. We will definitely visit again and highly recommend everyone to come and try the steaks. Inn On The Lake is, without a doubt, the best pub we've ever visited.

Lovely early summer’s evening catching up with the girls over fizz against the pretty backdrop of the inn and the pretty gardens. I didn’t eat on this occasion but there is always a great selection of nibbles and main meals complemented by the vast array of drinks and cocktails on offer. There’s also a great selection of non alcoholic choices for our designated driver! Would highly recommend a warm evening, soaking up the atmosphere and watching the sun go down with friends.

Lovely place to come and stay , staff are really friendly , especially the breakfast staff as they make you feel welcome and at ease. The food is 10/10 I've eaten here over 20 times and can't fault the food at all . Always fresh and on time. The rooms are really clean and tidy and cleaned daily. I would highly advise staying here or coming to visit on an evening fir food and drinks

This place has deteriorated and the food service is terrible. We waited an hour for our meal and gave up in the end. Fatty food on the menu and nothing very appealing if you want to eat healthily. I think it must have a changed management.

I recently dined at The Inn On The Lake and had a wonderful experience. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, perfect for a relaxing meal. We were served by Harriet, who was absolutely fantastic. She was attentive, friendly, and made excellent recommendations. The food was delicious, with a great selection on the menu, and everything we ordered was cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this restaurant for both the quality of the food and the exceptional service. Looking forward to my next visit!

A lovely place to stay and dine at. The room was very nice and clean and the bed comfy, sadly we were over the kitchens so the view was awful and we couldn't have the windows open due to the noise. Food was excellent, though get down earlier than 9.30 for Sunday breakfast as hashbrowns were completely dried out and everything a bit overcooked , like they'd been left on a hot plate too long...except the eggs benedict which was perfect. Would happily recommend and stay there again

Came here for lunch and a pint after a long walk, sat outside on a lovely day the surroundings are very nice. Ordered the dirty burger and it was just not good. The burger itself tasted very processed. The pint was fine but overall not great for the price considering the standard of the food.

This place is the jack of all trades! Restaurant, Bar and Hotel all in one stunning location! With a gorgeous outside patio fitted with heaters for the colder evenings and umbrellas for the sunnier days dining and drinking here feels like you are on holiday! The staff are experts in providing top tier customer service and the food is to die for! we had the special which was the Ray Wing and it was absolutely delicious! We will definitely be returning!

The most amazing restaurant I have ever visited. The weather was glorious and the service was impeccable! Special mention to Ellie and Prem who went above and beyond with a smile! We had a delightful meal at the Inn on the lake tonight. The atmosphere was amazing, they accommodated for our request of a “tucked away cosy corner” and the food was delicious. Our server Harriet was amazing, she was so lovely and friendly and was happy to help with anything. Big thank you to her for making our experience so great!

We had a buffet for a group of 60. Staff were very helpful and flexible on timing for serving and inobtrusive but friendly at all times. A good area was made available to us as well as access to outside. Thankyou!

We recently held a reception here following my fathers cremation. The venue was comfortable and aesthetically pleasing inside. The food was fresh and delicious and the staff were very helpful. If I had one criticism, it would have been nice to have had a member of staff being on hand specifically for the event, there were one or two occassions where our service was delayed due to other patrons being served, which was understandable and no fault of the staff at all. Overall they made every effort to make a very difficult day easier with consideration and care. Thank you.

The pub is lovely, the grounds are a bit shabby now.... the staff were attentive, but did not really listen to a lot of what was requested. The pub was empty, only 4 tables in the whole 2 hours we were there.. we were all placed together so it was incredibly noisy in a small section of a massive pub

We always have a great experience whenever we come to Inn on the Lake, whether it's for a drink and some nibbles or for a full meal. Staff are always super friendly and Dominic and Phil always make us feel very welcome. Food is very good and kids portions are generous and tasty. Garden out back is also a great space, especially if the kids want to run around.

Lovely location room 15 is a dream. The welcome and ongoing service we're superb. 100% recommend.

Very hard working team delivering a varied menu and working a busy bar. But prices are becoming increasingly unpalatable as portion sizes shrink. Atmosphere is good and very nice place to meet clients over a drink or daytime coffee. But either way, prices still steep. Walking distance of Godalming Station.

Visited before, so thought we would have a nice family Easter lunch. Food was nice, staff were also nice. I do prefer staff that have name badges, so that I can compliment a staff member who should have a mention in my reviews. We did request a table near the entrance due to my elderly mother in law, however they put us at a table at the far end of the restaurant, they could see how old she was with a walking stick and someone on her other arm !!. We also were standing waiting to be seated (not very busy), we were spotted by a few members of staff, but no one made a real effort to attend to us immediately. We could not believe that we could not have chicken Sunday roast OFF the bone, surely the Chef is capable !!. My mother in law no longer has a large appetite, so requested a child's size portion of the chicken Sunday roast which was on the bone !! What restaurant serves chicken on the bone in a child's meal !!! After we received our food, no one made an effort to ask how our food was. With the prices that are charged, especially my Fillet Steak, you'd think it's the least they could do. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I will not be rushing back, as there are other places to try nearby.

I brought my family today - wife and 3 children (5,3 and 6 months). The above average prices set expectations quite high - but delighted to say these were both met and exceeded in both the quality of the food and the service. A beautiful setting, delicious food and friendly service - couldn’t have asked for more!

Would not recommend – lunch at Inn On The Lake was quite disappointing. While the atmosphere was nice, we had many issues with the food (and the service) The chicken roast was served with a Yorkshire pudding that was so stale and unpleasantly crispy, you could crack it. The potatoes on the seabass were extremely undercooked, they could not be cut with a fork and needed quite a bit of pressure to cut them with a knife and when requested new potatoes due to this, we were served even more undercooked ones! Equally, when we asked for a new Yorkshire pudding, we received a sad-looking microwaved one. In addition, the linguine with seafood and chorizo were lacking flavour and also had two large chunks of raw garlic. Despite this, the pork and the rotisserie chicken were tasty though certainly not worth their price. Upon bringing these concerns to the manager, he just did not seem to care enough and half listened throughout. The general service was quite slow, the servers (Izzy), however, were kind and attentive. For a restaurant that brands itself as a gastro pub and prices their dishes on the higher end (around £17+ for all mains), you certainly don't get what you pay for. The food was extremely average, the lunch was slow and took over 2 hours, and it was not a pleasant experience that I would recommend.

The welcome was sadly the only positive part, the new menu was challenging, my mother being in her Kate 80s and was once the head guest services manager wanted usuall starter as she has a smaller appetite, sadly not on the starter menu, we asked would it be possible to have the chef to see if he/she could make it understanding it was a big ask, the restaurant was not very busy, so our waitress asked, the kitchen said no as they did not have the ingredients, sadly not true because what was shown in the menu had the ingredients, sadly chef did not was to do it. The starters we had were ok, the skin starter was very specicy and my mother could not even eat it.the main meal came out, I had fish and chips, chips were cold and the other meal was the fillet stake which was burnt and covered with the source, presentation awful, When we were asked by another staff member it was too late to change. The desert steam pair, well badly prepare. and the pair was solid. Extremely disappointed with the meal, especially when it was my birthday meal.

It was our 24th wedding anniversary, having stayed here the night of our wedding we wanted to see how much the place had changed and reminisc. The lady behind the bar and who also served our food could not have done more. No request was too much and she even bought out the custard as extra for my husbands pudding!! She was amazed at how much food my husband actually ate in this sitting. Food was delicious, drinks were well priced and the atmosphere was amazing. Will definitely return again

Nice restaurant but food I found average. Ordered a £30 steak and asked if I could have some broccoli instead of the chips and was told I had to be charged for both. Genuinely had tastier steak at home and wasn't cooked to my preference which they had asked. Everything is extra, sauces for the steak etc. Waitress seemed to be nervously and hesitantly hovering around our table which meant we kept stopping our conversation to look up and see if she was waiting to talk to us which I found quite strange. Perhaps a new member of staff. Would probably return for a casual breakfast or lunch but certainly would not be spending that amount again.

Our 2nd visit to this pub. The staff are welcoming and warm. The dining area is stylish and elegantly laid out. Four of us all had differing mains and each one was delicious and beautifully presented. A very pleasant experience and I would definitely recommend this place.

We had a large buffet in the bar area for my husbands 30th birthday and oh wow you guys all SMASHED IT! Incredible food, flawless service, friendly staff, amazing set up/area and great communication. We couldnt have had such a wonderful time without everyone who was workings help, and will certainly be coming back for our next big life celebration!

Great range of meals on the menu, liked the setting and good servers. Sunday the car extra car park is in use as very popular. App pay in the bar but but the restaurants. Food quality was excellent and tasted amazing.

Driven past loads of times but never been in before. Pleasantly surprised. It is deceiving big inside with a separate restaurant and bar area. A beautiful garden with pod like structures which must be lovely to use in the summer. It a cold February day so we cozy up in the bar area. Lots of little areas with comfy chairs for just drinks or tables and chairs carefully placed in windows and not too close to other tables. We chose to eat in the bar, the only downside was you had to order yourself at the bar. The bar area was lovely and quiet with a fire roaring in the hearth. A lovely bubbly older lady saw to us and settled us at a window table. She really did add to the ambiance of the place. The service, price and food was really good. We opted for the two course lunch menu and it was really tasty, hot and well presented. In hindsight we chose the bar area to dine and we were pleased with our choice. When we left the restaurant was incredibly busy and the noise levels were certainly higher than the tranquility of our table in the bar. Would we come again? Most definitely.

Thank you & thank you.... This is not only the find of the trip, but the best find of the last 5 years of travelling. First, after 5 nights in 2 other 'luxury' 'exclusive' & 'smart' hotels, we thought this would be a disappointment, or at least be a little old and shabby ... How completely wrong we were. We were welcomed by Nicky, (more later) 2 hours before check-in, and while the room wasn't quite ready, we were offered somewhere to store the bags, a huge sofa to relax on, and truly outstanding food. After a week of meetings, slight disaster at one location, and then a non-stop 16 hour day in London, this was a super suprise. Nicky manages the whole hotel and restaurant with the pure class, cool and confidence that only comes from many years dealing with passengers on 'The World's Favourite Airline', and I haven't met a better manager in the last 20 trips. And that right across the board, from Gastro pub to Country club to 5 Star London landmark. She makes everything seem like it isn't the slightest of bother, delivers exactly what is offered or promised, and from our 48 hours with her, truly cares about her team, the hotel and of course the guests. When we were given our room, the suprise continued, not only freshly refurbished, but not a single item that didn't work, the latest Samsung Smart Hotel Tvs, and decorated in a fun and modern way. And then the bed. ... the bed was larger, better dressed and presented, and more comfortable than any other in my last 5 trips to the UK. And while there are no baths in the hotel, the shower was super modern, wet-room style, with separate rain shower head and hand shower. And to top it off....immaculately, almost compulsively clean. With no corners cut. So, as far as the hotel, the welcome, the room, the food and the service..... truly 5* quality, with countryside pub charm, for distinctly 1-2 star pricing. And then the above and beyond..... unfortunately we experienced a medical issue on day 2, which meant plans were changed and help was needed. Again, no question, just hugely knowledgeable assistance, wonderful British humour, and nothing but offers to help. After 7 hours at a local, hospital, during which it was confirmed it was a false alarm, we returned for a final supper, to find the restaurant overbooked and completely full, and yet they squeezed us in, the food was exceptional, and we were hosted by a recent 23 year old University Ecomonics graduate, Mathilda (perhaps without the h), who was just spectacular as a host, but again, someone who truly cared about the service and the guests, even though I guess she will be at a very well known bank or consultancy firm very soon. My point being she had no reason to be brilliant, as so many waitresses just do the job, but she was outstanding, articulate and nothing was too much trouble. Thank you.... I normally write 3 lines, but Nicky, her whole team, and the gentleman who's name escapes me who gave us a run through of the room, deserve better. Recognition at being truly world class, caring, and at the same time, making sure the business runs smoothly and efficiently. Early check out, with a superb breakfast, and we were gone... but I will now use this as my GU7 base..... Many people over complicate a review. But this will end with the same words it began with. Thank you.

We thoroughly enjoyed our meal and staff were lovely, will be coming back

We had a wonderful stay at the Inn having a meal in the evening and breakfast as part of our stay and cocktails later. The room was extremely comfortable and a decent size with a large bed and quiet even though there was a party going on in the restaurant. There was an issue with the evening meal and the bill but this was sorted with the management being extremely helpful. The breakfast was excellent taking into consideration a gluten intolerance which was handled with care. All together a wonderful stay and we hope to be back. The lake is a little difficult to find though!

The food was absolutely amazing, all the staff were friendly, attentive nothing to much trouble, a special shout out to the young lady who looked after us I think her name was either Kerry or Keris at just 17 years of age she was completely and utterly spot on with her professionalism.

Delicious food, cooked perfectly

A lovely venue and a nice place to eat. I had a Dirty Burger and it was really tasty. The burger was cooked perfectly and the other parts of the burger complimented it well.

Service was great Broccoli stems in the Nourish Bowl were too big and would benefit from being sliced into bite size pieces.
