Nipped in for a meal being intrigued by the name of a pub as The White Lion with the picture of a zebra on the pub sign. The pub is under refurbishment. The service was perfect. We had 3 roasts and we were struggling to eat all of the food. One small criticism - the food was not hot enough. I made a special request about my drink and it was not a problem for the barman to accommodate it.

OK but nothing special. Had been a few years back and been impressed. Opportunity arose recently to go back for Sunday lunch (beef) but wasn’t great. The service we received was absolutely brilliant! There was a small mix up with the food which was quickly sorted. The lady behind the bar was new and she was really lovely and understanding, the other lady who was working was also really lovely and helped us with our order! We ordered a burger and it smelled really odd and tasted awful. The cod goujons starter was nice, I was told I couldnt have cheesy chips as they didn’t do them but they were on the menu. The stars were for the service.

We had beers and soft drinks in the car park. This pub is run how I like a pub to be run. Elaine gave me a friendly welcome - even though I left town years ago. The new staff are up for it. Even though the Lion had only been open a few days, after the Covid closure, so beer choices were very tasty indeed. Proper Job from Cornwall and Ossett Blonde from Yorkshire! They still take cash so I don't blow too much money!

The lion is risen! He has risen indeed, Hallelujah! A massive thank you to the brewery for getting a decent family man in, who knows HOW to run a family pub. Along with decent ambience, food and drinks. The pub is Covid friendly. But, OBVIOUSLY the tier systems are in place for a reason. I’ve read reviews blaming the pub for people in their tier 3 who couldn’t get served? IT’S THE LAW. He’s only doing his job! Do not take away the fact that the family have worked tirelessly to get this pub to a delightfully high standard of establishment. There are NOT many traditional pubs left (I’m looking at you Mr Spoons!) their is heritage and soul in the walls of the building. There is a real sense of community in the white lion. A Rovers Return friendly type pub. Food was delicious. Piping hot so mother definitely would be back. My parents enjoyed 2 roast dinners. Myself, the mixed grill!!! There was 7 pull pumps on that day. So pint of Proper Job for father. Moretti and Amstel followed by a large G&T for mother. Superb all round. I love dining here as you’re not blasted with loud intrusive chart music or Adele lovers pubs noise. Music is how it should be during the day, background. The lion on a Sunday observed that well. I like how they’ve redesigned the pub inside and to others to whom may be unsure of returning. Old owners are GONE! Pool tables and fruit machines are gone too! Many thanks Ted

A very good choice as we were made very welcome when we arrived and our table was set as we booked in advance, even having crackers with the place settings. The Christmas menu was very good and we went for pie and chips, Christmas dinner and Mediterranean tart. Everyone agreed the food was excellent, portions more than enough and arrived together and piping hot. The service was excellent and the place very friendly with local and walkers popping in for drinks and food. The real log fire made it especially comfortable and we stayed longer than expected. I am a huge fan of this pub and visit whenever I am in the area. Since my last visit, there have been some positive improvements- high chairs, a pool table, decor and garden space, gin/cocktail additions and a range of new beers/lagers/ciders plus live music advertised on a regular basis. All these factors will tick lots of boxes for people visiting including myself. I do feel the menu could be improved though as it currently feels very limited to what was once being offered. On a menu consisting of 11 main meals, I think 4 burgers is excessive and limits the choice massively. On the day I visited, there was a table who were told there were no Sunday dinners left and only one steak pie meaning the only meat option available was a burger as there were no specials on the board. I feel if a couple of tweaks were made to the menu to offer more choice, this pub would be amazing!

A homely and warmly decorated pub in the old style, real fire and a quiz night. Plenty real ales nearly all summer ales only..but most are "tired" to say the least with one or two disgusting, The barman obviously does not pull the ale through and does not have a good enough turnover to necessitate so many (Lifeless) beers.

The White Lion it was! Great (non-)choice! Excellent choice of beers, including the two we chose: Otter and Abbot Ale and others such as Adnams’ Ghost Ship, White Rat, Ubu Purity, Nook Oat Stout, Sharp’s Sea Fury, brewhouse Elysium IPA. Fantastic choice of gins on their gin menu, but it was only lunchtime, so not tasted. Range includes: Bulldog, Fifty Pounds, Gin Mare, Martin Miller’s Reformed Gin, Monkey 47, Whitley Neill Rhubarb & Ginger, Tanqueray Rangpur, Bombay Sapphire, Adnams’ Copper House, Bloom, Hendricks, Tanqueray Dry, Langley’s Old Tom, Sipsmith Sloe Gin and Ophir.

The Yellow Broom is best described as a blend of pure elegance with a splash of sophistication. The setting is undeniably beautiful, complemented by a warm welcome from the staff, who are clearly well-trained in delivering exceptional silver service. The menu offers a well-balanced selection of cuisine, ensuring there's something to delight every palate. The presentation of the dishes was nothing short of exquisite, and the flavors were simply delightful. The staff were remarkably attentive without being intrusive, striking the perfect balance between friendliness and professionalism. The atmosphere and layout of the restaurant were both appealing and comfortable, enhancing the overall dining experience. The Yellow Broom is a truly first-class establishment that consistently maintains high standards. I highly recommend a visit—you will not be disappointed.

The lady who runs it was welcoming insightful and charming. She gets all her meat from the local butcher which is first class. She was passionate about food and her recommendations dovetailed beautifully. My sister ate the mushrooms on toast, which she gave me to try. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection and the sauce was a perfect blend of flavour and consistency. They were really good, the lady who sat next to us has been coming for years and also recommended them, it was easy to see why. I myself had the brie and bacon ciabatta with chutney. The chutney was cooked in a slightly curried sauce which was lovely. Although I would have liked a slightly sweeter sauce maybe blueberries to cut through the mild salt in the bacon and brie but it was excellent none the less. Three breakfasts and pot's of tea for £14 per person was incredible value. I finally remembered years ago taking my daughter here for her birthday lunch and she kept asking me to take her to the place with the train running overhead, I couldn't remember at the time but she'll be overjoyed to hear I've found it. Fantastico, grazie.
