Had a fantastic birthday lunch with family with dog friendly pub . Food was yummy , hot, and plenty of it . Thank you to all the team . Plenty of choice. Staff are so nice . Lovely garden to sit in .

A really good restaurant. Lovely interior and the food was amazing. The barman was really helpful and super friendly. The White Horse is tucked away in a tiny village but well worth the drive. We were not disappointed and hope to visit again.

Really enjoyable atmosphere and food very tasty. We had the beef and prawn dishes to start, both delicious but beef was the star. Main course we had the prawn linguine, mussels and a fish sandwich all were very enjoyable. Will definitely be back

We spent the weekend and once again had a fabulous time. Natalie and Andrew are fantastic hosts. The room was lovely. The bed was really comfortable. There’s a good choice at Breakfast. We were booked for lunch in the restaurant and the team looked after us very well. I would really recommend you visit this wonderful place.

Smashing pub with rooms. Rooms designed to a high standard. Our room looked over the side car park but we weren't disturbed by any noise. The bed was very comfortable, the rooms also have complementary toiletries, tea, and excellent coffee. We really liked the homemade shortbread provided. The staff couldn't have been any more helpful and attentive, a credit to the owners. We remained in the pub for our evening meal which was extremely tasty and a very reasonable price. We enjoyed a full English breakfast however there were lots of other choices on the menu. We highly recommend this pub for food and rooms.

An attractive recently renovated building - as highlighted in the national newspaper review that prompted us to drive 23 miles for lunch. But the real draw was the promise of interesting food and professional service - and we were terribly disappointed. The lamb risotto was good but the other dishes lacked flavour — and the waitress was so disinterested we had to get up to attract her attention. It could have been so much better. Hopefully just an off day, but sadly we won’t be back.

Very overpriced for what you get and service was non existent no one asked how food was or if we wanted drinks , you could over hear a waitress taking the piss out of another customer , would not return

The restaurant looks incredible inside and out and has a really good vibe. We were told the roast dinners had sold out which we thought just showed how popular they were, however half way through our meal we heard the table next to us being told there were 5 left. Of course there may have been reasons for this but it would have been good for this to have been explained at the table, also the fact that people had been calling to reserve them as this option wasn’t given to us at the time of booking. The food we had was great and the staff were friendly and helpful.

If you’re in the area, drop in! Great place, friendly staff, dogs welcome and good food. What more do you need? Highly recommended

Booked in for lunch for the first time since under new management. The building has been renovated besutifully with calming period colours and wooden floors. The couple that run it are chef and front of house and utterly charming. I went with my 93 year old Auntie and my 84 year old mother, both of whom can be challenging to please! We had a very very nice bottle of wine, a fish bisque and monkfish and i had mussels. I like good food and this place was incredibly good. Its more pricey than standard pub grub because its a far higher standard. I would recommend highly.

We had a great meal here once again. This time it was lunch and I chose crab ravioli followed by the chicken in Thai curry sauce - so delicious. Always friendly service and a lovely relaxed atmosphere. See you again soon!

Poor service and menu choices, tasteless meal and cold coffee coupled with higher than average prices for which free bread does not compensate. I found the menu choices very limited expecially for Sunday roast. There was only beef or chicken and they ran out of beef. Maybe a lucky break as my friends found the beef very fatty and there were not enough vegetables. The braised ox cheek was the most tasteless meal I have ever had and did not even come with vegetables. The vegetable "sides" did not seem very healthy. The vegetarian option for Sunday lunch of butternut squash offered about a desertspoonful of squash. We were loath to order deserts after the disappointing mains. Some of our coffees were tepid at best and we had to ask for sugar and teaspoons to stir them. I was left hungry and very disappointed. To add insult to injury, we suffered young children screaming and running around. All in all, not worth the price.

Booked as on the way to friends, for lunch, was really impressed with the decor and friendly staff. Was a little worried that it was very quiet but probably because there was a NYE do there that evening. We had the snacks as starters which were very good. Then 2 of us had ox cheeks and 2 had mussels. Both meals were good size and very tasty. Definitely will return if in the area.

What a lovely venue for Christmas lunch today; burning fire; beautifully decorated for the Christmas season. The staff , so friendly but professional too. Our friends had been before but this was my husband & my first visit! The food was delicious & we stayed & chatted without any hassle from the staff. While I was on holiday the other Old Gits re-discovered the above venue. In fact have now been there 5 times it is so good. Their older gentry day menu is terrific and very reasonably priced compared to many others we have used. Service great, Food and Beers great standard and plenty of it. This is a lovely old Pub/Hotel with good parking and access for wheel chairs. Nices clean gents loos etc and comfy Bar restaurant areas. Highly recommended but phone first for a booking.

Did a local walk to the pub from home however It’s such a shame as you get a good pint of beer but the service was far from warm!! Even the chips needed the oil changing lol! Disappointing as we are locals In the area, yet we will be going to our other choice of locals next time! We had an ad hoc idea of a lunch to catch up with the university going kiddies and the the grandparents together. The staff were lovely and attentive on arrival, they prepared our drinks and showed us our table as we wait for the remainder of the party. We were left to chat and when our final guests arrived, we were left for them to settle..... unfortunately, this meant we needed to go to the bar for a drink, but not a problem. The food choices were plentiful, our order was taken and now time to relax. So the food did take over an hour, but we blame that on the fact we didn’t have a starter. The restaurant was also full. When the food arrived, the staff were brilliant, the plates were very hot. The portions were large, lots of vegetables and a lovely amount of rich gravy! I cheekily asked for some mash potatoes which was no trouble and huge portion :-)The plates were cleared quickly and efficiently. The desserts and coffees were served soon after, tasted delicious and was a perfect size after a huge main course. Overall, the meal including dessert was perfect, we choose a variety of meals and each was delicious. The staff were very polite and attentive. The cost was about £25 per person with multiple drinks and side orders each. We will definitely be back!

I visited this pub with friends and had high expectations . It’s a lovely old building but the food is very average . We were over charged and had to point it on in paying the bill and they did eventually apologise . The waitress who served us was obviously having a bad day and didn’t we know it ! They are so many better places to eat Sunday lunch .

I was really very disappointed by the service in this establishment. We had to wait well over an hour for our main course to arrive. At no time did any staff enquire if everything was to our satisfaction. The food itself was nothing out of the ordinary.

We were disappointed today, it was not a good experience. The food arrived after one and a half hours, it was not tasty and the dessert took another very long time to come.

6 of us went to celebrate someone’s birthday . The staff were welcoming and friendly.the food was really gd we couldn’t fault it . I had Beef Bourguignon oh my my the beef just melted in your mouth , it came with mash that was really gd gotta say as mash goes it was up there with some of the best Iv tried and the veg were nice cooked .i had the prawn and crayfish cocktail to start that was plentiful. I tried a bit of the steak and the belly pork that some of the others had and again it was really gd . We all said that we would go there again The restaurant was cosy you had your table for as long as you wanted ,the staff weren’t in your face asking if we wanted this or that they left us just to get on with out meal ,but they were there if we wanted anything.i took in a birthday cake which at the end of meal one of the staff bought out lit with candles and she and the other guest having a meal there all joined in with singing happy birthday , which was really nice , all in all the whole eve went brilliantly, I would totally recommend this little gem . We had lamb which was good and tasty, My son had a fish and chips which he really liked, he even had a free extra serving of tartar-sauce. Waitress was smiling, friendly and fast. Kitchen was a bit slow. Good local ale. Perhaps too many choices on the menu; One cannot be good at everything all the time.

We came here for a Sunday roast having heard that it was great. Sadly, the whole meal was let down by the meat (roast lamb) which seemed like it was the pre sliced boil in the bag kind which for £14 should really be from a real roasted joint. It was fairly stringy and tasteless which made for a disappointing dish. I have to say that the veg was great and there was a great quantity of it - perfect the meat and you'll have a great roast dinner!

My husband and I had a meal with our son and daughter in law just after Christmas. It was the only time over the holiday that we would be able to get together.

The hosts there are wonderful humans willing to help and make you live a really confortable journey in their place , everything is super clean and good and it’s actually not expensive. Probably the best hotel I’ve been to , not the most classy but the most comfortable and family friendly one

My wife and I had a week in a B&B; at this pub, on the first day we had our breakfast there. We couldn't have been happier with the quality, it was very good, but things took an unbelievable turn when it came time to pay. As I slid my debit card into the machine the waitress said “It's about to ask you a question”. I was puzzled at this strange statement and wondered what on earth it was about to say. Then the screen displayed a message saying something like “do you wish to leave a tip “YES – NO”. To my utter astonishment, at the very second this was displayed she said “It's asking you if you would like to leave a tip”. I have no idea whether she thought I was blind or illiterate, however I am neither. I was so shocked at being virtually asked to leave a tip that, to my regret, I left two pounds. The next day we returned for dinner, this time the machine didn't display the tip message, but as the waitress handed me the printout she asked us if we were happy with the price. Having never been asked such a question before, after all, the price is what it is, I said yes without thinking and went to pocket the receipt, but my wife thought it sounded too dear so took a careful look and saw that it included a pint of beer and a Pinot Grigeo, neither of which we had ordered. When we explained this, she pointed out that it was from the previous day, we replied that we still hadn't had these drinks and what's more I am unable to consume alcohol due to a medical condition. She then amended the bill, but with no hint of apology or regret at the error. Needless to say we dined at a nearby establishment for the rest of our stay.

The food here is just average....the welcome is ok.....the service is ok ish....wouldn’t bother coming back...

We have visited the White Horse on several occasions for a meal and always been very impressed with both the food and the service. Sadly this was not the case tonight. The food was fantastic but not the service. There was just one waitress for the whole restaurant and she did a magnificent job but it was just too much for her. We had our plates taken by I assume the landlady who asked if we would like the dessert menus. We waited and eventually asked the landlord after 50 minutes. You would think he would have got and bought the menus to us. You've guessed it, he didn't. The run ragged waitress did. He seemed more worried about clearing empty tables and setting them up for breakfast. I did not once see him interact with any of the customers freely. Very disappointing! Be a shame if the already good reputation of this lovely place goes down the pan.

We went to this pub for lunch the day after a Bank Holiday and were the only customers until about 1.30 pm. Consequently it was very quiet and we had personal service, which was friendly. The selection was very good, whether from the a la carte menu, lunchtime menu or specials board. Chips looked good and the roast potatoes were a little overdone, but vegetables (carrots, broccoli and peas) were fine. We tried the chili butter king prawns (messy to eat but served with warm french bread and yummy), the gammon and egg (good) and the steak and kidney pudding (plenty of meat and very tasty). No room left for desserts!

Lovely Village Pub with an inviting atmosphere, the staff were very good & gave us a nice welcome. The Food was very good & on par with good restaurant food, nice to see proper fresh veg which was very nicely cooked, the service was quick.

I take my elderly mum who has dementia here regularly and the staff are brilliant with her. She can be really fussy in what she will eat and they will change things to accommodate her. Good food, well presented and nice surroundings.

Every couple months we meet up with a group of friends for lunch, taking turns to choose the venue. This month we selected the White Horse. It was a Monday but even then I was surprised to see that we wee the only diners.

Visited here on a Sunday with family after a walk in the woods. The restaurant was packed which made it hard to manoeuvre our buggy through especially as some customers were reluctant to move even an inch to help us...in the end we went round the back entrance.

Our local village pub that has recently upped its game following the sad demise of its main rival, The Queen's Head. The food at The White Horse, which is also an hotel, has always been good but rather overshadowed by the Queen's, but now, with favourable pricing and a good menu and varied specials board, this is the place to eat.

The steaks on steak night were very good value and beautifully cooked. Perfect. The meals on other nights were excellent too, with an extensive menu. The puddings were divine. You won't get in and out of here in a hurry, though, as all the food is freshly cooked. Well worth waiting for. Nice wines, too.

A lovely olde worlds pub away from the hustle and bustle of the main roads. Being near Christmas the pub was very busy -so glad we booked. Be prepared to wait for your food as it is all cooked fresh but it was well worth the wait. Wherever possible they use local produce and the taste is great. Can heartily recommend both the cod and the sausages.

We’ve dined at the White Horse on a number of occasions, with a variation in our experience from being very good to maybe just average, which is disappointing by comparison with the better times we’ve been there. They put on a number of special occasion events - we went for their Valentine’s Day dinner last year and really enjoyed it, with a beautiful fillet steak cooked to perfection. We were so pleased with our experience that we booked for the repeat event this year (2017), but this time the service was slow and the staff quite indifferent; the steaks were much poorer quality, probably getting to the point of being leftover ends of the fillet. We didn’t go back for a while, but have decided it’s OK if you don’t have too high expectations. Lunch probably better than dinner in that respect. We do keep going, but if a new place opened where there was more enthusiasm and commitment to the customer experience, we might well switch loyalty.

Me and my family always come here for a celebration to have a lovely Sunday roast dinner. My nan and Grandad have just had there 50 golden anniversary 2 months ago with 16 people.The food is very nice and so are the staff, the pool table cost about 50p.On the 30th April 2017 we decided to came here to celebration my 20 birthday. It was bank holiday Sunday it was very busy and are table was book at 2pm we had to wait 10 or 15 minutes.we got sit down aright one of the staff said that they are very sorry, they ask us if we would to take a bottle of wine for the apology. We only had to wait about 10 minutes for are food.

Terrible Service, Terrible Atmosphere, Average Food. Would not recommend or visit again, the worst Experience. Usually Eat at The Dairy but it was closed so thought we would try The White Horse, terrible terrible mistake. The Dairy is 100% better then The White Horse in every Aspect.

Beautiful old Inn which has all the charm you would expect from a period property. The staff were friendly and polite even going so far as to allow us the use of one of the guest rooms to change our son when a changing room was not available. The service was timely and given that the food was freshly prepared was very swift. The food itself was amazing with the burgers home made and the roast pork melts in the mouth. The portion sizes were extremely generous leaving no room to try the tempting deserts.Have just moved to the area we will definitely be visiting again.

Dinner was good with attentive waitress, although only 3 tables occupied.We had had lunch there on 2 previous occsions which was good & the restaurant was busy then.

We have visited a number of times over the past year with friends and family. Everyone who has visited the White horse with us has been impressed by the warm atmosphere and excellent food. Excellent Pub and hotel.

I have eaten at The White Horse several times but this was the first for Sunday lunch. The prawn and crayfish cocktail to start was fresh. This was followed by a mains of turkey, pork meat stuffing, kilted sausage, gravy and vegetables. I paid an extra £1 for a homemade Yorkshire pudding. It was all well cooked and the portion size was not too big to be off putting. A refreshing lemon tart and sorbet finished the meal. The service was cheerful and helpful.

Liz and I are down in Kent for a week and on the day we visited the farms around Selling and Boughton where my relations used to go hop-picking and where my parents met, we popped into the White Horse for lunch. We chose it because my Uncle told me that this was the pub that the blokes used to sneak off to for a pint when hop-picking at the local farms. It's a really nicely decorated pub with a great selection of locally brewed ales but even more impressively the stock Becks Blue non-alcoholic beer! Anyway we don't often eat pub lunches as normally the choice for veggies is pretty lame. Not here, there was a lovely felafel burger with chilli sauce which I chose, and a portobello mushroom and halloumi burger that Liz chose. Both were served with chunky chips, a really nice mixed leaf salad with a tasty dressing and some really creamy coleslaw. Big portion too, we were both stuffed afterwards. It was a busy lunchtime, they obviously had a crowd in for a Christmas lunch, but service was good, friendly and the food arrived as promptly as you'd expect well prepared fresh food to arrive. It was lovely and I'd happily eat there again and recommend it to my friends. Thanks for a lovely lunch.

Last reviewed this one in August 2015, this occasion was a sunday afternoon about 3pm.To be honest we didn't expect it to be quite so busy but they had a large birthday party in which appeared to be well catered for. I hadn't booked so we had a table found for us towards the back which was fine, the decor is still the olde world, type look and in keeping with the pub and village. The food order was taken in good time and despite the notice saying all meals are cooked fresh and a wait for the meals is usual it did seem to be an excessive wait. May have been because of the big party of course. Some of the waiting staff haven't learnt to smile yet and appear to be just doing the job. Food was very good, tasty and well presented.

Had another super Sunday lunch at the White Horse Well worth a visit. Staff great and food lovely Try the xmas dinner special. Yummy

White Horse is very good value.Have been there several times especially on my father's 90th birthday last year

Came here with my family for a breakfast in the morning. We showed up slightly late for breakfast but we were greeted happily and said we could still have breakfast. The interior was lovely and it had a very warm feel to it. The breakfast was nice but no where near worth 7 pounds something. There was hardly anything of it and we all left still hungry. I have given this an average rating because I just felt there could have been more for our money and felt disappointed that we left hungry. Still was a nice visit though.

the direction of the white horse took some time to respond my "bad review"....!shame on you!to the direction: you have to learn a lot........managing a hotel-restaurant is a "big job".....and remember: smile, clean ..........etc.and to the brewery: take away your name ; it is bad publicity!

I don't normally enjoy Sunday roasts that are not home cooked, but the salt marsh lamb I had was very good and the vegetables perfectly cooked. Starter goat's cheese salad not very interesting but adequate. Waiting staff remarkably patient with awkward customers ( not awkward because of the food or service, just awkward). Very impressed that along with the choice of loose nuts as bar snacks they also stock chocolate raisins! Comfortable restaurant with good parking. I look forward to returning and trying some things from the specials board, which looked interesting.
