A very very nice pub very welcoming to tourists

Lovely rural location, nice food, great value, think they have huge potential with the back of the property which overlooks the water

We’ve only been to the pub and haven’t stayed in the the accommodation. The service is varied, there is a lovely young lady and a rather grumpy middle-aged couple. The food is inconsistent, my last meal was served burned (veggie tart), my dad’s steak and kidney pudding was dry. There is seating inside and outside.

We stayed for one night,greeted by a lady who barely spoke to us and showed us to our room.the room was outside the pub..up a tired hall and staircase. The room was very dated and not very clean. There was a strip of dirty dust behind the toilet door,clearley they had just mopped the middle of the floor. And the sash window would not open. One of the "clean towels " was damp and smelt awful. The window in the bedroom did open,but when I later closed it,it slammed closed,as the cord on the sash broke.! Lucky my hand were clear of the window. The pub was very dark in the morning for breakfast,with no lights on at all. Again the bar maid was unwelcoming,and everything seemed too much trouble. I'm afraid the breakfast was awful ,.we sat at the same table we had sat the night before,when we had one drink before bed..it was sticky from the night before. Clearly not washed . The ladies toilet was dirty,it looked like the floor behind the toilet hadn't been cleaned in months ,with a dirty rusty pedal bin. We had looked forward to our stay in the pub where they had filmed,,but we're very disappointed . Would we recommend.. NO !!

We were reluctant to pick this place as we noticed how less than friendly they were when we visited previously, but we are limited due to having a dog.When we arrived with our 13 year old child & pet dog, they looked at us like we had leprosy,then basically refused to serve us, even though we arrived before the time of the booking.The excuse they gave was that, "they'd had a busy day & were tired". They know why & we know why, as they couldn't hide it their faces. Nothing friendly about this place & we will definitely not spend another penny there !! I am absolutely disgusted & annoyed as my wife burst into tears as we left. I wouldn't recommend this establishment to my worst enemy !! 😡😡

Excellent location, beautiful surroundings with easy access to Holmfirth and Huddersfield. Lovely, welcoming hosts, nothing too much trouble. Accommodation very clean and comfortable. The breakfast was good and home cooked food, with huge portions, very tasty and excellent value for money. Didn't realise pub is dog friendly but when we return will take our labrador with us. Definitely worth a visit.

Just called in for a drink after a walk round Hepworth and Hade Edge. Had a look at the menu and the food looked lovely and great value for money especially with the deals like steak night on Wednesday 35 quid for 2 with a bottle of house wine . Will be trying the Sunday roast soon 2 courses for £18 . Finally got round to trying the Sunday roast and took advantage of the two course for 18 quid! I got the prawn cocktail starter which was decent but the star of the show was the roast beef lunch which was lovely and plentiful. My girlfriend got the fish and chips which she said was brilliant and again big portions ! She finished off with the lemon tart ... Both 2 course meals for £36 which is an absolute bargain! Place was almost empty which for the life of me I can't understand cos the food is top notch for the price ! Wednesdays is steak night and Fridays fish and Chips 2 for £20 ! Good possibility we will be back on Friday...

What a lovely friendly pub this is. It's a hidden gem and it used to be used for filming in Last of the summer wine. The food is excellent and the Theakstons the best.

Very disappointed with all 5 meals we had for our dinner . Whilted salad leaves , fried egg was cremated with gammon and burger tasted aweful. Will not visit again !

It was very quiet when we called on a Sunday evening. I don't think they do food on a Sunday night We were warming greeted by the young man behind the bar and the other customers, which was lovely. We must call for dinner sometime !

Really nice little pub we were staying in an ait bnb next door. We walked down and the Carol singers were singing so decided to stop for a drink a glass of fizz and a mulled wine.

My family and I went to the White Horse for a birthday meal, the staff were friendly and welcoming. The location was picture perfect in a quiet but beautiful place, where we all enjoyed ourselves. I had the Steak & Ale Suet Pie with chips and mushy peas, it was delicious and very filling. I would recommend this establishment for anyone wanting a peaceful meal. I didn't stay in any of the rooms, so I can't rate them.

We stayed for one night and it was very comfortable.The staff were very friendly . Rooms very clean warm and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was very enjoyable. All in all a very nice place to stay.

Avery warm welcoming pub restaurant in Holmfirth. Seven of us were there for dinner. Good menus choices. Good food. Good friendly service. We would go again.

Ate lunch today at 3pm. The positives were..friendly smiley staff and efficient service. We ordered chicken Sunday lunch x 3 @ £11.95 per head. The food arrived quickly and there was a lot of it..the veg looked fresh but it was bland as were the yorkshire puddings and potatoes, but nothing that additional salt and pepper wouldn't help! The issue was the two dried up bits of chicken on the plate. I couldn't get my knife through it, my friend was gallantly trying to shred it to no avail! Check back was fast and we said we couldn't eat the chicken as it was too hard, she apologised and said she would tell the chef. At this point I was wondering how the chicken had got in this state? Was it microwaved too long? How many times was it reheated? Would it be safe to eat..if we could? The waitress checked back again and we reiterated our complaint again she said she would tell the chef. We ate some of the trimmings but all three of us left most of the food. A waiter cleared our plates and again asked if everything was OK.. we explained our issues. He came back with the full bill and said the chef was sorry?.. we will not be returning

Excellent value for money, wonderful reception. Soo dog friendly !!! This pub has so much potential and the current owners are very committed.

Traditional Sunday lunch with some of the best desserts we’ve ever tasted. That sticky toffee pudding and jam roly poly were both incredible

We called in today (bank holiday Monday) and at first were disappointed with the reduced food menu (probably our fault for not checking) but all found something to order that we liked. The food when it arrived was superb. All freshly cooked to order and delicious. Service was excellent (although we were the only dining guests I think) but we really couldn't fault anything. Very friendly welcome too.

Dropped in here on a Saturday night, was made to feel welcome by the landlord and the staff from the moment we walked through the door. A very rare find in this day and age, proper home cooked food rather than the 'warm up' stuff you get in most chain pubs. It was very reasonably priced too, and a service that rivals many Michelin restaurants we've eaten in. If you want unpretentious food at a very fair price with amazing friendly service to boot, you can do a lot worse than here. We will be booking to stay at the hotel in May and if the restaurant experience is anything to go by, we're in for an amazing stay. Well done.

The woman behind the bar is extremely rude and unfriendly. She looked us up and down and ignored us when we said hello - blank stare, no words. Not welcoming at all, won’t return based on this.

We had a lovely, tasty meal and drinks. Waitress was accommodating as two of us asked to switch our chips and that was no problem. The service was quick. We had the pie, haddock and gammon meals and all were great. Only downside was that one of us was looking for a vegetarian meal and two of the veggie meals were crossed off the menu so not much choice for that person. We sat by the window, and near the fire which was warm and lovely to watch. Lovely, relaxed atmosphere.

Visited with family after a long walk- waited ages for our order to be taken- had to ask.Everyone just ordered sandwiches, after 55 minutes of waiting and enquiring 3 times our food finally came. I asked for bacon to be crispy, it certainly wasn’t, it was so chewy. The chicken was so dry- I left three quarters of it. The staff weren’t bothered or apologetic at all. Would not visit again and definitely not recommend.

Dry, tasteless Sunday lunch - staff looked embarrassed at what they were serving. No one checked ‘how the meal was’ as suspect they knew. crumbly dry mash, not creamy, hard roasties, veg not seasoned and chicken was bland and rubbery. Not a difficult meal to get right!! Whole place Lacking in atmosphere. A vey disappointing visit.

I originally left this review on Google and since deleted it, amazing how quick you can be put off somewhere Lovely waiting staff, tasty, good hearty food, lovely pub and garden with a waterfall, would definitely recommend and will be returning. After going again recently after our first visit was nice, we went again for dinner, couldn't fault the fish and chips we had but! The two ladies that I think own run it, they really need to learn customer service, as they just had no personality, hardly smiled, when you asked them anything they looked like a rabbit in headlights, I asked for more hot water in my cappuccino as the cup was not full and at £2.75 I expect a full cup, I was told well you'll have to wait for the kettle to boil again, so clearly it's instant over priced coffees,my sons hot chocolate was definitely instant, and they forgot to bring the milk for my partners tea, and when I asked I got eyes rolled at me and huffed at, we had hoped we had found a little gem here but I think until the attitude changes of the staff no one will want to return, there is not even a greet when you walk in or a smile, always look at you like oh no a customer what do I do, you have to say to them shall I just sit anywhere! We won't be coming back and I'm pretty sure alot of people won't, regulars of the pub maybe but if they are looking to build it up and draw people in it won't work, as we felt unwanted and clearly a burden. Maybe who ever runs it is in the wrong industry. When I am paying my hard earned money in an establishment I expect to be treat well and not be made to feel like you've got the hump just for doing your job!

We received a very warm welcome from the landlady on our arrival. The room was very comfortable and clean, the food delicious, and my gluten free diet was catered for. Really enjoyed our stay, and we decided to stay longer for a Sunday roast too.

stayed here for 4 nights was a bit dubious at 1st because of social distancing, had absolutely nothing to worry about, we were either sat in separate room from other patrons or there was also plenty of outdoor space to sit, rooms were spotless food was excellent plenty of hand sanitiser in place all over the different areas in the building, staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was lovely our room had everything we required comfortable bed hot shower tea and coffee facilities and hubby was pleased he had a TV to watch sports....i will definitely go back here for a visit and stay over,have a lovely meal next to a roaring fire and enjoy a few glasses of wine from the extensive collection, I was also pleasantly surprised with their prices which were very reasonable,definitely a hidden gem in this lovely town

Fabulous meal at Lunch time Fishn chips and cod and mussels dishes were both amazing tasty and plentiful. The setting is breath taking even in most weather with a lovely social distancing safe beer garden overlooking a river and weir. I ask to take a look round the hotel room's and they follow the same elegant comfy decor as the rest of this historical building.. Its well worth a drive out in sunshine or rain. Nicola and the team are wel owing and making sure they are keeping you as safe as possible. We will be back.

Decided to book after calling in after a walk one Sunday afternoon. Booked for me and three friends to dine on a Friday evening. Absolutely delicious food, generous portions and great value. The young lad behind the bar served us at our table, excellent customer service skills. All in all, a great evening. The pub recently opened again and it would seem they are focusing on creating a cosy pub atmosphere and serving good home cooked food. Hope more people stumble upon it soon.

Called today for sunday lunch. Looks to be a family run establishment with all the ingredients for an excellent place to eat, stay or both! From the welcome you receive to the service and quality of the food. We had done a walk, starting from Jackson Bridge, decided to "Chance" having a Sunday Lunch and glad we did. Food was excellent and we were made to feel vey welcome. Puddings with custard as part of a set price deal is always good.

Decided to have a nice drive out to Holmfirth for the afternoon and stopped here for early dinner. The food was stunning, very fresh , tasty and lovely choices. We had pigs cheeks to start which was beautiful and roast beef and lamb mains which were cooked to perfection and very very tasty. The interior is lovely and relaxing as well as being very welcoming. We didn’t expect a lot , but this experience far exceeded our expections and we will be back. Definitely worth the 90 minute drive x

Stayed here whilst going to a show at the Picturedrome. It’s a £5 taxi ride into Holmfirth. The pub is very clean and cosy , with great real ales. The room was clean and warm, with nice bedding. Breakfast was good.

Excellent small hotel / pub near Holmfirth. Evening meals and breakfast are good value for money and delicious. Great range of cask ales on the bar round off a perfect stay. Highly recommended.

Booked two rooms for family members now that it has re opened with new owners who were very polite and helpful and even let family check into the rooms early. The rooms are well appointed with good beds and the breakfasts were good quality and ample. Good selection of hand pumped beers in a bar area that is warm and friendly. I wish the new owners all the very best with their new venture and welcome to our village.

This place recently reopened and as we are locals want to support local business. For a Sunday the place was quite busy and the landlord had a chat with us which was nice, all the staff were very friendly and welcoming. They need to start doing food which should bring in more custom. Would definitely recommend this place and we will be back

Wow! Newly opened and under new management and amazing! In a beautiful location, this pub comes equipped with a log fire, lovely owners and welcoming locals. In the summer, watching the waterfall from the back of the pub will be incredible! If you’re in the area, this is the pub to walk to!

We had booked to stay here for the weekend. When we arrived the pub was closed, no sign of life and a for lease sign up.

Went in 2017 and stayed there 5 days.The landlady and her daughter ran the pub!; The cast of Summer wine memorabilia was on displayed openly ! Sadly the landlady was giving up the business due to lease problems ! It was great staying there and I do not know who runs it now or what theme it uses to encourage people

Dropped into this pub as we were driving around on holiday lovely place very good food indeed, all very well priced excellent service what else could you want. Keep up the good work you have an exceptionally nice public house.

Faced with the discovery that the pub we were aiming for had closed down, we found this place on TA and headed for it with crossed fingers as we were on a tight schedule. We were not disappointed. A lovely traditional pub, with a good ale selection. Friendly and helpful staff and the food was excellent. Wouldn’t hesitate to visit here again.

In these days of coffee shops, gastro pubs and the "can I get" culture, thank goodness for a proper pub. Small bar, lit stove and open fire (when its cold - and that's the best!). Pub food (good food with veggie options - we're not veggies however), ales, some lager (for those like me), 'Gin of the week' and friendly service. Why would you not frequent this pub and not thoroughly enjoy it? - I don't know. You will enjoy it, and you will return again. Let's have more pubs like this and less coffee shops - especially Starbucks!

We hadn't visited The White Horse since it had been under new ownership, so decided to try the "Steak night" last Thursday. Two steak meals and a bottle of wine (£25). The meals were excellent and the service was efficient and friendly. We will definitely be back.

Went for a meal with my wife, food was nice. I then met what must have been the landlord, just like the last landlord, rude and ignorant. This pub has never been a success, I can’t understand why a landlord wouldn’t just be nice to his customers, doesn’t make sense particularly in a small village like this. The staff are OK but conversation doesn’t come naturally to them. Surely the key to any business success is making people feel welcome!

Always a good sign when the beers good. Food was excellent too. Friendly barman, nice atmosphere, great service. Had some nice Last of the Summer Wine references if that’s what you are after, but they were discreet so you could overlook them if it wasn’t your thing.

This pub now has new owners and it certainly shows. Stopped frequenting this pub due to the previous landlords attitude and bad food. But has it’s local to me I thought I would give it another chance particularly because the new owners already have a good reputation from their other pub. I really wanted the food to be good because it’s so close to where I live, and I wasn’t disappointed. I had the Sunday roast and it was v good, if I had one complaint it would be not enough yorkshire puds but that’s my personal preference.

New management are serving faultlessly executed pub meals at good prices. Good range of beers and cider with friendly and efficient service. Small selection of decent wines under £15 per bottle. Will return soon.
