Unbelievable. Booked for 11 at 1 pm. I wish we hadn't bothered. 1 person working and cooking. Over 2 hrs wait for food. No apologies. If they had told us at the start we could have gone somewhere else.

Good little bike night would recommend

A local boozer, with a big pub dog, albeit friendly ...don't have the crisps dog will jump up and then guilt stare you out!

Well what a cracking breakfast we have just had ! Don't know how they do the food for the price. All freshly cooked - nothing fancy but everything you would want. Lovely, attentive, friendly service. Will definitely be back !

Went to funral reception landlord and his wife was very pleasant and helpful if I lived nearer I would go regular very pleasant place

Iv been here before in past to eat several times , called in on a Saturday and the bar man was just rude .. I asked if he was serving food and he said they don't serve food here, he said it with such a attitude as if I'd insulted him , was dead inside anyway looks like it's gone downhill so we went elsewhere .

Take no notice of the advertised opening times. They haven't been open at 10pm twice this week despite saying they were. Not great is it.

Had an overnight stay in our motorhome. This pub is under new management and it shows....recently refurbished, spotlessly clean and friendly staff. Homemade pies on the menu and a great choice of beers. Had a full English breakfast before leaving....set us up for the day. Highly recommended.

Under new management and redecorated to a high standard, this pub serves great food, good beers and a lovely atmosphere. Well worth a visit now that they are able to reopen.

Lovely family friendly pub cozy and good food

Since we are self isolating we have found this pub will deliver meals in the local area. We enjoyed a hot Sunday lunch delivered to the door. They will also supply a few basic food items if you need them.

We visited the Flying Ferret this evening. The pub was packed with families and a party celebrating a birthday.It was a great atmosphere with everybody eating & drinking with some enjoying the Sky Sports and the Wakefield Trinity vs London Bronko’s Rugby League match.I get the feeling everyone enjoyed the evening. I know we did.

Good quiz night, friendly staff, good meals.

It's just ok, decor needs a lift and the menu is not very inspirational so would I make the effort, probably not

Popped in for a drink after seeing a play up the road at the village hall.Received a lovely welcome from the staff and enjoyed a couple of glasses of wine which were very reasonably priced.Only live ten minutes away so will be back to try the food later.

My boyfriend and I visited after a walk and were greeted warmly despite not being locals/regulars. Decided on a table near the coal fire and after enquiring, given a couple of options for the vegetarian version of Sunday lunch. My partner had roast beef I went for a mushroom parcel which arrived with roast potatoes and vegetables, Yorkshire pudding and gravy. It was absolutely delicious and great value for money too. Good range of beers on offer and most of all, the friendly environment was great! Will definitely be back and hopefully on a warmer day next time!

They are brilliant with our sons who both have Autism , extremely friendly and good food at a good price xx

Incredibly friendly pub with a huge cross section of age groups. A proper pub with great local ales on draught and big selection of lagers and ciders. Gin bar too. Pool, book exchange etc...roaring fires and caring landlord and his wife, Chris and Carol.. Big charity workers who work wonders.

Good venue. Chicken supreme end of the pool match a treat.

This is a down to earth local pub, no frills or fuss, there is an outside area, that to be honest needs some attention. However the service is friendly and the Sunday roast is very good and the bagets are great - huge! I would recommend the roast beef ! very reasonably priced.Good local

We walked into the Ferret and were greeted by a fantastic aroma. What a fantastic evening. Fresh Thai food cooked by Pen. Great food by a local lass!The starters were great and the three mains were wonderful, and spicy.We will be back! Thank you.

Warm, relaxing pub. Has events on occasionally, drinks reasonablly priced. Family friendly, food good value for money,decent walks near by. My mother had her 80th there and proprietors put on a good job, buffet was super and children entertained. Weather was sunny so outside was used also.

Excellent Pub, supported us with a great breakfast before a stag do last week. Good selection of beers and great staff. In an ideal location on a main road and at the top of a large estate.

The flying Ferret is a great local to have in Shelley. The food is inexpensive and freshly cooked. The staff are always welcoming and friendly. The Ferret supports live music and shows live sports.

Just had a gorgeous, roast beef dinner, proper home cooked beautiful Yorkshire puds. Apple strudel for afters. So delicious. Lovely atmosphere log fires on. Football on. Perfect Sunday. Great pub.

We had Sunday lunch here. Proper home cooked food at a reasonable price. Nice friendly atmosphere and attentive staff. My son had a chocolate pudding. It came with his favourite squirty cream and sprinkles which he would like to give 50,000 out of ten would definitely come again.

I will never get on with this truly dreadful pub. I feel sorry for those who live near it. I wouldn't go again. Don't tuck in, do the opposite

We were abit dubious coming in cos pub full with cards n domino player's but cudnt be more wrong So friendly and warm Food was more than up to scratch and so reasonable The soups homemade n steak for £8 cooked just the way I like it Don't be misled by this local pub it's a diamond in Shelly We will return 10 out of ten

Hemos estado aquí un par de veces y siempre lo disfruté. Ayer, 9 de nosotros fuimos asadas para el Día del padre. La acogida fue excelente y, con 4 niños con nosotros, hizo muy relajante. Hay muchos lugares los niños pueden pasar el rato - los sofás, mesa de billar, juegos - por lo que no se recogen en el cuadro cooped todo el tiempo. El menú ofrece como bien asado o demás comida y muy servicial cuando mi hijo quería algo que estaba en el menú y después-4:00 lo hicieron para él! Había que esperar un poco para la comida, pero con todos nosotros relajado y los niños ocupados, valió la pena la espera. Quizás el mejor asado que he tenido por un largo tiempo. Nada elegante y sofisticado, de casa, de cocina abundante jarrones repletos de salsa y buenas porciones.

Mi pareja y yo vine aquí a conocer a un amigo tras ella terminado el trabajo. Es fácil llegar en transporte público. Muy acogedor y el personal acogedor. La comida era muy buena y a un precio razonable. Se viene aquí de nuevo. par de cervezas de lo que para nosotros.

Tiene una buena variedad de cervezas poderosa para un pub del pueblo (la mayoría de ellos de Huddersfield - un pequeño mundo cervezas, Magic Rock y cosas así). También tuvimos una comida que es casera y una ganga en el precio (ambos nos comimos por alrededor de £12).

Perfectly cooked food in portions which are more than adequate, attractively presented. Most enjoyable.

I like a pint of hand-pulled bitter, I live within walking distance of this pub but I’d rather stay at home and drink Tesco Value lager than go here. Every few months, I pop in, vainly hoping that it’s improved. Today was typical; fancying a tea time pint, I called in; the place was so cold everyone had their coats on, the tables are arranged like a transport cafe, there’s loads of second-hand shop furniture around the place and, even the ‘locals’ who stare at me rather than speaking - especially the bloke sat in everyone’s way were moaning that it was cold… This place is a contender for the worst pub in Yorkshire award.

Six of us called in after an evening at the local village hall - surprised that at 10pm we could still order hot food. Fantastic tasting tapas and very very good value for money. We are planning to return on a regular basis.

Lovely family run establishment, staff bend over backwards for visitors. Great pub to take children, free drinks for the children and plenty of toys and colouring books etc to keep them entertained, not to mention the lovely play area outside. Meals are home cooked and plentiful. Good yorkshire produce! Eaten many meals here, the burgers are locally sourced and of the best quality, the home made chips alone are worth the trip out! Sunday roasts highly recommended, the lamb shank just falls off the bone. Be sure to book for Sundays as can get busy. I believe that "Yorkshire tapas" has just been introduced to the menu, a selection of small tapas style dishes with a Yorkshire twist at just £2.50 each! Cannot wait to return to try it out!

The flying ferret is a great village pub,Chris and Caroline are welcoming and friendly,there is a good atmosphere with very reasonable priced drinks.The food is home cooked,good value for money,we have eaten there on many occasions and it's always been really nice,would certainly recommend a meal there.Its family friendly,dog friendly and its just an all round good pub with lots going on.

Couldn't ask more from a village pub with everyone, whether regular or new customers welcomed. Family friendly with a no swearing policy and good food on offer. Landlady and landlord can't do enough for you, even offering local farm produce for sale. Great for either a quiet tea time drink or evening entertainment.

Family & dog friendly pub, so no-one need 'stay at home'. Staff friendly & very welcoming. Food is excellent & great value, serving local real ales & good quality wine that's reasonably priced means a family evening out won't break the bank....Regular live music & events are the icing on the cake.

The food was terrible the food was like a bush tucker tryal I almost shouted I'm a celebrity get me out of here

Not been for a while, but went in a number of times over Christmas and since. Great friendly place to go for a pint or two !
