Decent pub for sports and beer. Nice beer terrace out the back. Great selection of drinks and excellent service.

This is unfortunate because I normally have a really good experience here. I visit this pub often with my friends and now get recognised by the bar staff and greeted alongside the people I visit with. However, I have experienced a situation that has turned me the wrong way… I went to get some tissue, to blow my nose due to hay fever, from the men’s toilet unassuming that it was out of order. There were no signs suggesting this anywhere in the pub that these toilets were out of order. When I come out I was pulled over and accused of doing drugs by member of staff. Who had watched me through cctv, blowing my nose in the toilet. I was told that if I go in there again I will be kicked out and that wiping my nose as I walk out was suspicious. I explained my side stating that I was only blowing my nose and I had no idea that the toilets were out of order. They asked me to check if there was an out of order sign (there wasn’t). No apology from the staff member which upset me… I understand I entered an area of the pub that was off limits but this really should’ve been clear and I do not appreciate the allegations of drug use. Such a shame…

Driving an HGV and currently broken down outside this pub. Politely asked to use the loo and 15 mins later the lovely young lady behind the bar made me a coffee and brought it out. The world needs more people like this 😉

Been 3 times would go back again

Me and my friend went to call for a drink here. Bar lady was abrupt, rude. Seem to go out of her way to be awkward. Said she would take our order outside after ordering us through the front door. She took 15 minutes and we got fed up of waiting! This wasn’t down to her being busy which we could understand just lazy and rude I think. Safe to say we will take our business elsewhere in future. AVOID!!!

A proper local's pub and lovely to know that they still exist. It has SKY Sports on at least 3 screens. It is clean and airy and the locals are friendly. Relatively inexpensive - pint shandy, small diet coke, packer of Quavers and a packet of Nobby dry roasted peanuts cost £6.16

Local, friendly and welcoming old school pub focused more on sport and sipping than anything else. Big pool table and outside space for when its hot as well. Probably not for the family, but definitely for watching th football with mates.

It's always a great place to be on a Friday and Saturday night, brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff and cheep beer!

Called for a pint this evening but failed to be served. Stood at the bar with a £10 in my hand, so called bar maid served 2 people then walked straight past me, then did it again. Apparently she is known for being a bit thick!!!! Anyway I failed to get served after 10 mins so left, we'll done crown 🙌

Visited whilst at bagden hall. Great range of drinks and special offers and very good value. Bottle of prossecco only £10.50 and reasonably priced wine.

Lovely new owners who make you feel welcome and make time for a chat . Didn't like the crown under previous ownership but these are really turning things around as you can tell with number of people visiting. Will be even better when bar snacks start. Keep up the great work it's now a lovely pub to visit

Watch a football match and enjoyed the surroundings

we were stopping up the road at the Bagden Hall and needed to kill a couple of hours, we had seen the signs outside for food as well so thought we would give it a go. i was plenty surprised when we got inside as it was really big and reasonably quiet, it also had a pool table and sky sports which was a bonus. all i will say is that this pub does now NOT DO FOOD apparently they stopped doing it in march this year which was a bit disappointing as we were looking forward to some as it says on the boards outside (these need taking down) home cooked food. but over all my visit was decent, as the staff were nice and the beer was fine and the Sky sports was on.

Between our party of 14 I think we tasted all of the two meals for £12 menu, and everyone was happy with their meals, both quality and portion size! The chef even catered for one person who made up there own meal, been more than happy to do this! We go here quite regularly for drinks, and will return for food, thank you

Had a Lovely Birthday Meal here last night.The meal was delightful,the staff friendly and helpful and Full Marks to the excellent new chef for a beautiful meal.Will certainly go again!

This used to be a fab place to eat, until the menu changed, became pub grub, did not have the lovely well presented meals that we were used to having prepared by Gareth. Now they are not doing food except bookings for large numbers, parties etc. Christmas Day dinner last year was ok, nothing special, sat at table next to carvery, quite a squash.

Typical friendly welcome with good choice of real ale. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk or 3 minute drive from Bagden Hall.

Loving the new layout and menu. Much nicer for dining and the food expertly cooked and presented by Gareth was delicious. No complaints between 5 diners. We will not be long before we are back again even just for drinks. Usually a good selection of 4/5 very good cask ales. Highly recommend a visit!

While arriving at the pub starving. I waited over 45 minuets for slop!! The service was appalling the food was dripping in grease and tasteless.. The owner was more interested in chatting up young punters than serving regular village people. Very disappointed in this place and the staff need a good shake up and Customer service skills it's a local restaurant and pub not a cayote ugly bar sort it out .. It was embarrassing for customers and staff!

Somewhere that has a small varied menu making choosing an easy task. The food is freshly cooked with large choices of veg. Nice friendly staff and a good selection of beers.

we visited the crown on a busy friday night and had a drink and a main course. It is back to its former self after suffering years of been run down and poorley run. The food was good and the prices very reasonable. We will go back now and again

Just read previous review and they must be talking about a totally different pub. We have ate at the crown many many times, and the food has always been excellent with always a good choice. The service is first class and always friendly. It is great that there is a friendly pub in the heart of the village that serves good food, good beer and has a good atmosphere with friendly staff and owners.

We were not exactly spoilt for choice but having read a few reviews arrived at The Crown Inn on a busy Friday evening, although most patrons were at the bar rather than dining.We should have read warning signs when we waited more than 10 minutes to be greeted and seated! The waitresses seemed busy, task focussed (I prefer people-oriented service) but unproductive, one waitress said she had been on since noon and she was still there at nearly 10pm. The other seemed just as jaded.We waited more than an hour and a half for our food, as did other diners, we were just told they were very busy. The tables were a little sticky despite a re-wipe and we were never offered further drinks after our initial order.When the food came it was all very tasteless and dripping with grease, the 'hand cut' chips were small wedges that looked like Bessie's rejects that had been sat on a hot plate too long. Nothing tasted fresh and the food generally lacked any form of presentation. My hubby had to ask twice for sauces and a steak knife that should have come with his meal. It felt like the waitresses struggled with any form of eye contact ... perhaps in case they were asked for something, or fear complaints.The Crown Inn needs some local competition, to make it pull it's socks up properly. It feels like basics are being overlooked, rather than a different menu each night, they need quality kitchen staff and customer oriented skills.Next time I would travel a little further afield to ensure a better experience for the price.

This pub has been given a new lease of life by the current, very experienced licensees. The Crown is now back at the heart of the community and is attracting new customers every week. From the outside, it now looks clean, bright and very inviting and there are no disappointments once inside.Plenty of comfortable seating, a great selection of guest beers and a blackboard menu of really tasty sandwiches. You can eat in the main bar area, but the conservatory-style restaurant is very attractive and offers a different experience. There's plenty of tasty dishes to choose from, and everything is well cooked and beautifully presented by the young chef. It's really good value too.It's great to see this place doing so well - the Crown really is a traditional English pub at its very best!

Third visit in the last couple of months, great to see the owners are settled in, this pub has changed hands so often. Outside has been given a lick of paint, looks great. Food is good, beer is good.

We called in today for Sunday lunch. The welcome was warm, the choice of beers extensive. The lunch was excellent and just the right level of service. The message about the Crown seems to be getting round as it was really busy when we left.

Called in here for a meeting & was given a real surprise, the food was way above "pub grub" even the sandwiches are good. Looks like a great choice of cask beers ( driving so couldn't partake) that looked good in the glass. Very friendly staff, very clean inside. Will use again

I was sorry to hear the last review as we live locally and have been many times and never had a problem. I am sure if you asked to speak to the landlady she would have sorted any issue out for you? We have asked what is in food before and the waitress and chef have been very accommodating. On our last visit (8 Dec) we had garlic mushrooms on Bruschetta and fishcakes and they were AMAZING! My friend had the Ham Shank and it was huge! There was a party of 6 and everyone enjoyed their meals. Great value too as for 6 with 2 courses and 27 drinks between us came to £155! The landlady has always been into the restaurant checking if everything is ok too. Give it a try, itis definitely the best place to eat in our area t the moment and consistently good.

Myself & friend called in on Friday night for a meal. We were very dissapointed after all the reviews we had read. We had fishcakes to start which were very good followed by duck. The duck was completely dried out the pancakes that came with it were wet. The service was slow. When ask if everything was Ok i said no and eplained why, the waitress said she would have a word, wether she did or not we don't know she just came back and asked if we wanted anything else!!! We will not be going back again or recommend anyone else.

Myself and my husband called in for a drink last night. As usual the staff were very friendly, and there were several choices of real ale available. They also serve nice white wine! We didnt eat, but the food smelled lovely! Friday is fish night, and a selection of normal menu for non fish loving folks! The fish offerings sounded inventive and very appealing. We intend to invite some fish loving friends over to join us for a meal at The Crown shortly! Trade was brisk, so it's great to see word spreading that this is a great pub!

To have this restaurant open under new managment so close to home is great.The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpfull.The menu choice is not huge, is fairly typical pub food but on a higher level, beautifully cooked and presented. Cotton napkins to us showed the standard is a bit above the norm.Price is reasonable.We had a very pleasant evening and caught up with some of the locals in the bar as we were leaving.We have family over from the states at the end of august and will try the Sunday carvery.The crown will certainly go on our list of places to take our friends and family.

The food is out of this world. Add this to an excellent choice of Cask Ales and complete new decor at last I have a great local to eat and drink in.

After this pub changing hands so often, at last we have got the right owners. we went for a meal with our daughter having heard good reports and we were not disappointed. The daughter is vegetarian who does not like spinach so the chef cooked her a lovely mushroom pasta dish with out spiach it was delicious. We could not find fault with our meals either. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we will definately be back and have told many people how good it is. Please keep up the good work, it is just what Scissett needs, a good local with outstanding food. Well done

We live locally, but have never really frequented this pub. However, it's just been taken over by the person who owns The Rose and Crown in Thurstonland. That pubs gets great reviews for its food and real ales. Based on that, we thought we'd give it a try. Very friendly service, good selection of real ale and wine. I had scampi and my husband had belly of pork. Both dishes were really enjoyable, and the food was of very good quality. None of your frozen, micro stuff here! The homemade Chips were particularly tasty! We'd definitely return, and will be recommending to lots of friends. I hope this pub builds up some good custom, as they deserve to do well!

I ate at The Crown last night with my family and some friends. It's was great, a lovely family atmosphere, the children were very welcome and it was buzzing with people. Something I have not seen for a long time. Right, down to business, the food was brilliant, exactly what you want from a local pub. I had the steak and ale pie, real pastry, real chips, beautifully presented. The service was good, lovely friendly staff and we had a really nice bottle of wine. I will certainly become a regular and be happy to support a local business that is eventually getting it so right!
