The Sovereign in Kirklees

Had a brilliant lunch at the Sovereign this afternoon. Both service and food were fantastic. Looking forward to coming back soon.

Lovely warm atmosphere. Sat next to the roaring fire. Perfect for autumn evenings. Food was lovely, the pie especially with seasonal veg.

Arrived and got a nice table and service was steady but consistent. Decent menu with plenty of options. Been many times and always go Sea Bass, Lamb or a special so thought... Steak!! Bad idea! Medium rare ordered and it came and was like shoe leather despite the bs from the staff! It was agreed to be wrong. Alas they changed all of it and at best Medium the 2nd time couldn't waste anymore time ate and those that that was terrible. Yes we'll go again but never for a STEAK.

Great food by an open fire on a cold autumnal evening. Historic traditional pub with a contemporary feel Our waitress Charlotte and all of the staff were welcoming and friendly and the food was excellent.

Just got back from meeting up with friends. The food was delicious, the atmosphere great and we had exceptional service from Claire helped by Jess and Maddie. We enjoyed it so much we have booked to return for our Christmas get together. Thank you.

The meals were great and the service very good.

We went with our Daughter and 2 Granddaughters so there were 5 of us. The atmosphere was lovely with open fires and friendly staff a special mention to Claire, Will, Laura and Mitchell who made us feel very welcome and the service was really attentive and pleasant. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

A great experience, a lovely welcoming atmosphere, nice fire burning making it very cosy. Clean in all areas. Staff were very polite and friendly. We were served today by Claire and Ellie. Our meals were well presented and very tasty, so thank you to Craig & Mitchell. Sorry didn't take any photos of the meals. I'm looking forward to my next visit and I would highly recommend.

Lovely food, competitive prices and friendly staff. We enjoyed our meal in a lovely serene environment.

A very pleasant meal from start to finish. We were served by Claire who was very helpful and the bar staff were very friendly. The meals were brought out in a timely manner, leaving us time to talk while having a drink. We had fish and chips and the duck and hoisin pizza, which was very delicious. Great atmosphere, thanks very much Claire and crew.

Can’t here today for a birthday meal and was not disappointed. The food was very tasty and the price was reasonable for the food you received. Our servers Claire and Laura made us feel very welcome and were very friendly throughout

We received a warm welcome and attentive service from Claire & Ellie during our visit, nothing was too much trouble especially when dealing with food allergies. Excellent hearty food (pie of the day went down a treat), many thanks to chefs Craig & Mitchell.

We were on holiday as a family within walking distance of this pub. The pub has a really great vibe,all the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was amazing cooked by Kelly and Mitchell. We would highly recommend and would definitely visit again,some lovely villages nearby for nice walks so a great location for a well needed pint in your walk too:)

Been for lunch. The staff was excellent and very attentive. Food was fantastic we had Steak Sandwich which came with a pot of gravy. We were served by Claire and Emily who checked we had everything we needed.

We had the best meals in this pub. The steak pie was massive and so tasty. The roast beef was cooked to perfection. All the veggies were nicely cooked and the presentation was very good. The staff (Claire and Emily W) were very attentive and informative. We will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Yorkshire.

Lovely Sunday lunch with generous portions. Hard to choose what to have for dessert as there were so many great choices.

Just visited the Sovereign. Nice pub shame a food and the service. I had the pie of the day. The pie itself was OK but the veg was only luke warm. As they just served us and then disappeared and nobody came to ask us if the food was ok I couldn't get it replaced so just ate the pie. When we eventually saw some staff we were unable to get their attention and waited ages to see if they would come to clear our table or the other three that needed clearing, or offer us a dessert menu. That didn't happen. Eventually we gave up and went to the bar to settle our bill. I complained about the veg being cold and the fact that nobody had been to check how the food was. They were only slightly apologetic. As recompense they knocked the cheapest thing at £4.95 off the bill. Not good enough but as I don't like complaining we left. We won't be going back in a hurry. Poor service a d it wasn't even busy.

On the 18/8 we last moment booked a table of 10 for the 8pm reservation for my boyfriends 20th (were pains we know) however the staff, food and venue was perfect. We were primarily served by Claire who was amazing! She was friendly and kind and definitely made our experience better. They catered to our every need. Thank you so much guys for making our night so special!

Steak was cooked perfectly, would have liked the chef to come out and say hello.

The food and service at the sovereign was superb. The waitress Claire was exceptionally polite and on the ball. For a 20 year old the chef Mitchell cooked and presented superb food. We will definitely be going back.😁😁😁😁

Lovely place to stop for lunch. Very stylish inside and lovely gentle music playing. Claire and Ildi served me and were excellent I had cheesy garlic mushrooms followed by fishcakes with tenserstem broccoli spinach and baby pots with hollandaise sauce. The chefs were Craig and Michell who served up excellent dishes. I will definitely call here again as good value for money at £16.50 for 2 dishes which were ample in size. Thank you for a lovely lunch break on my weary way from a music festival

Beautiful in side hotel staff lovely but food not up to standard . Ordered steak lovely presented we thought great started to eat it half was full of fat . However young lad offered our money back or new meals . We ordered same again was asked if ok At first I said lovely husbands was fine . Mine started ok then half again chewy and gristle It put me off the rest as by that time I wasn’t hungry and felt sick looking at it . I was told the chef gave thumbs up and picked a better cut . Well are they blind or have they bought a bad batch of sirloin . A sirloin is supposed to be 99 percent meat it was horrible . I left upset as I felt I couldn’t complain again so left very unhappy as it was a birthday treat .

Great spot for a dining experience, as a couple, with family or as a larger group. Varied menu, something for everyone, nice to have specials as well as long term favourite dishes, my recommendations - the chicken pie and crème brûlée yum! Amazing cocktail menu, and brother said the beer was well served and tasty! Shout out to our waiting staff who were incredibly helpful, super friendly and a credit to the team! Jack, Harry, Claire and Suz you went that elusive extra mile, effortlessly!

Called in for Sunday lunch a very warm welcome and was shown to our table service was very good and professional by Claire Jess Ildi these staff are a credit to the company and went above and beyond. The food was very nicely presented went for the Sunday lunch what can i say 10/10 Definitely will be going again and would recommend a happy pleasant atmosphere. And they must get some of the review cards I showed them

I had dinner with some friends here and the service is great. Claire is absolutely lovely and so attentive. We really enjoyed our time and food here.

Nice fresh modern pub, with plenty of seating inside and outside, one section is known as the restaurant. The staff are very friendly, and service was fast. We had the special (shepherds pie) and it was delicious, plus the calamari and fries. The prices are standard, thus quite high.

First impressions as we walked in were very favourable. Ordered the Sunday lunch and when it arrived it looked lovely. It wasn't, it was cold, everything including the gravy was cold. The vegetables were so undercooked I couldn't get my fork in them. The bar staff took our plates away saying she would get another serving and came back with the same one which had clearly just been reheated ,which I didn't mind too much as it was now hot but the broccoli and carrot was still hard. I like my vegetables slightly underdone but these were ridiculously hard. Not something I'd expect for £20 a head.

Just been here with my boyfriend and his mum and the food was absolutely amazing. I had the mac and cheese with beef brisket and it came out red hot and it was delicious, I also had the brownie bombshell for dessert and that was divine. The service was really good as well and they were all very kind and welcoming. Would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for some nice food. Thanks to all of the staff working today; Claire, Jess, Ildi, Craig and Kelly.

We went here for lunch yesterday, served by Claire who was super friendly, quickly got our drinks and order into the kitchen. I had the pie of the day - chicken and leek, my partner had the Mac and cheese with the added pulled beef brisket. Both dishes were lovely and the pie was one of the best I’ve had in a while! Will be back again. Thank you Claire and Emily for your hospitality.

Visited this large pub a couple of times while staying in the local area. The staff were all very polite and friendly, and they all get 5*. This is a national chain pub with freezer to frier/microwave type meals on a par with Brewers Fayre or Toby Carvery. Meat on turkey roast didn’t taste very good. Some starters served cold. The one that was sent back returned barely a minute later hotter than lava. If you were hoping for an independent pub with a chef you will be disappointed. 3/3 (‘Average’) but only just.

Had a lovely lunch here today. Service was exceptional from Claire and Ellie. Despite being very busy, service was prompt and friendly but also very professional. We three ordered diffeent dishes and all were very tasty and enjoyable. Desserts were also excellent. The whole experience was very enjoyable and the bonus was the lunchtime price offer. We have never been disappointed at The Soverign, it’s always nice food and lovely surroundings. Thank you for our lovely dining experience. We were waited on expertly by Claire, Emily, Emma T and Max. Claire deserves a special mention as she was always making sure that we were satisfied etc.

First of all there was a delay on food due to a large celebration party. However this was explained to us upon our arrival and we accepted the time explained and the kitchen exceeded our expectations. Really good reasonably priced food and a couple of cheeky afternoon drinks. Service from Claire and Kelly was amazing. Truly happy smiley people and so welcoming. Thank you ladies

Pleasant surroundings Tables well spaced for private conversation. We were well looked after by Claire and Kelly who were willing to adapt to our sharing items on the menu due to smaller appetites these days. Food was excellent as usual.

Easter Monday group of 4 people. Excellent food. Excellent service. The fire was lit so was warm and cosy too on a wet bank holiday. Prosecco was flowing nicely also. Always a good experience when we visit. Nice friendly cosy atmosphere.

Lovely setting with beautiful views from the outdoor seating area. Inside a warm traditional country setting. The staff were very knowledgeable with regards to gluten free dining-my fiance is coeliac. All in food beyond its price & as good as you could ask for. Highly recommended
