Me and My friends come to the Sovereign every week. We love it here all the staff are so lovely and are always happy to chat to us. I can't stop recommending this place.

Me and my 2 friends visited on Sunday lunch- excellent service from all the staff. Got a nice welcome when we arrived then taken straight to the table. All 3 had roasts which were excellent followed by pudding. 100% recommend anyone to try.

I came into the establishment on Sunday with my missus. Food, service and atmosphere were lovely hence the stars provided. Unfortunately I came into the establishment yesterday for a cup of tea. Was told the coffee machine was off to which I responded by asking if you have a kettle. I was told yes but there in no plug sockets for the kettle in the kitchen. Which it utter nonsense. I worked as a chef for 15 years and can guarantee there would of been a spare socket. Then was told I'd have to wait 20 mins for a cup of tea. Absolutely disgusting behaviour to be honest. Never seen such a lazy bartender/waitress or supervisor/managerial all my life. Attitude stunk look at me like I pissed on her chips asking for a brew. Improve your staff as you'll lose business with lazy staff members. Was 5 stars been dropped to 2 because of the staff member on shift last night shame really as the food was delicious but only take 1 bad egg to spoil the experience and drop a rating. Hopefully the staff member/supervisor serving last night will be retrained with a bit of manners aswel work ethic and work etiquette.

My wife and I with two friends called for a light lunch. We ordered sandwiches in the form of 3x shredded brisket toasted bread sandwiches with a bowl of fries and a small pot of gravy. The other was a fish finger sandwich, again with fries. There was also one and one half of beer and 2 x teas. The cost was just short of £60. There was absolutely nothing special about this meal, indeed the toasted bread was rock hard and highly overpriced. If you like pretentious this is the place to visit. We will give it a miss.

Lovely pub service great ,food not good. High prices for small portions. Lasagne needed a spoon struggled to find any meat in it. Cold custard with warm desserts? What.

The food here is excellent and we are always spoilt for choice as the menu is extensive. Shared the tempura prawns and calamari starters today which were both delicious. As a non drinker I always appreciate any venue which gives me a good choice of interesting non alcoholic options.

We haven’t visited The Sovereign for a long time and called in today (30th December 2024) for an impromptu late lunch. Our experience of food at Vintage Inns has been mixed at best. Some good, some disappointing. The food today was ‘average’ but the best part was the smiling service provided by Claire. She greeted us at the bar, accommodated our choice of table and was simply pleasant throughout. The restaurant was fairly busy but she was up to the job. (However we did have quite a wait for the food.) Overall then, whilst not blown away by the food, very impressed by the service.

Had our Christmas meal and it was superb, couldn't find one fault. Food was delicious and service was brilliant, especially Claire.

Visited on Christmas Eve, party of 8. Staff were friendly enough but they had insisted we preorder weeks ago and had lost the list. Not a great start. The food was ok, we had several steaks which I think were mixed up, so the MediumWell went to the guy that ordered MedRare and vice-versa. Easy done but annoying. One of the three vegetarian options, the one we pre-ordered, was off the menu. The others my Veggie companion didn't want so Fish and chips it was. The lamb shank looked lovely but they didn't have enough for our order so I had a steak. All in all a pricey meal which wasn't quite worth the money. One star removed. And they added £15 to the bill for service without asking too, one start removed... All in all a 4 star place having an off night, maybe

Great food and service. We love it here. Took our dog and sat in front of the fire for some lunch, such a lovely atmosphere and very Christmassy!

We visited on Sunday and each ordered Sunday roasts, a turkey, a beef and a pork. They were all delicious as were the accompaniments. We always enjoy the atmosphere at The Sovereign, and the service we received from Izzy, Claire and Ellie was excellent, all very friendly and attentive.

Lovely warm atmosphere. Sat next to the roaring fire. Perfect for autumn evenings. Food was lovely, the pie especially with seasonal veg.

Arrived and got a nice table and service was steady but consistent. Decent menu with plenty of options. Been many times and always go Sea Bass, Lamb or a special so thought... Steak!! Bad idea! Medium rare ordered and it came and was like shoe leather despite the bs from the staff! It was agreed to be wrong. Alas they changed all of it and at best Medium the 2nd time couldn't waste anymore time ate and those that that was terrible. Yes we'll go again but never for a STEAK.

We went with our Daughter and 2 Granddaughters so there were 5 of us. The atmosphere was lovely with open fires and friendly staff a special mention to Claire, Will, Laura and Mitchell who made us feel very welcome and the service was really attentive and pleasant. I would recommend this pub to anyone.

A great experience, a lovely welcoming atmosphere, nice fire burning making it very cosy. Clean in all areas. Staff were very polite and friendly. We were served today by Claire and Ellie. Our meals were well presented and very tasty, so thank you to Craig & Mitchell. Sorry didn't take any photos of the meals. I'm looking forward to my next visit and I would highly recommend.

A very pleasant meal from start to finish. We were served by Claire who was very helpful and the bar staff were very friendly. The meals were brought out in a timely manner, leaving us time to talk while having a drink. We had fish and chips and the duck and hoisin pizza, which was very delicious. Can’t here today for a birthday meal and was not disappointed. The food was very tasty and the price was reasonable for the food you received. Our servers Claire and Laura made us feel very welcome and were very friendly throughout

We were on holiday as a family within walking distance of this pub. The pub has a really great vibe,all the staff were very welcoming and friendly and the food was amazing cooked by Kelly and Mitchell. We would highly recommend and would definitely visit again,some lovely villages nearby for nice walks so a great location for a well needed pint in your walk too:)

Been for lunch. The staff was excellent and very attentive. Food was fantastic we had Steak Sandwich which came with a pot of gravy. We were served by Claire and Emily who checked we had everything we needed.

We had the best meals in this pub. The steak pie was massive and so tasty. The roast beef was cooked to perfection. All the veggies were nicely cooked and the presentation was very good. The staff (Claire and Emily W) were very attentive and informative. We will definitely be visiting again on our next trip to Yorkshire.

Lovely Sunday lunch with generous portions. Hard to choose what to have for dessert as there were so many great choices.

Just visited the Sovereign. Nice pub shame a food and the service. I had the pie of the day. The pie itself was OK but the veg was only luke warm. As they just served us and then disappeared and nobody came to ask us if the food was ok I couldn't get it replaced so just ate the pie. When we eventually saw some staff we were unable to get their attention and waited ages to see if they would come to clear our table or the other three that needed clearing, or offer us a dessert menu. That didn't happen. Eventually we gave up and went to the bar to settle our bill. I complained about the veg being cold and the fact that nobody had been to check how the food was. They were only slightly apologetic. As recompense they knocked the cheapest thing at £4.95 off the bill. Not good enough but as I don't like complaining we left. We won't be going back in a hurry. Poor service a d it wasn't even busy.

On the 18/8 we last moment booked a table of 10 for the 8pm reservation for my boyfriends 20th (were pains we know) however the staff, food and venue was perfect. We were primarily served by Claire who was amazing! She was friendly and kind and definitely made our experience better. They catered to our every need. Thank you so much guys for making our night so special!

Lovely place to stop for lunch. Very stylish inside and lovely gentle music playing. Claire and Ildi served me and were excellent I had cheesy garlic mushrooms followed by fishcakes with tenserstem broccoli spinach and baby pots with hollandaise sauce. The chefs were Craig and Michell who served up excellent dishes. I will definitely call here again as good value for money at £16.50 for 2 dishes which were ample in size. Thank you for a lovely lunch break on my weary way from a music festival

Beautiful in side hotel staff lovely but food not up to standard . Ordered steak lovely presented we thought great started to eat it half was full of fat . However young lad offered our money back or new meals . We ordered same again was asked if ok At first I said lovely husbands was fine . Mine started ok then half again chewy and gristle It put me off the rest as by that time I wasn’t hungry and felt sick looking at it . I was told the chef gave thumbs up and picked a better cut . Well are they blind or have they bought a bad batch of sirloin . A sirloin is supposed to be 99 percent meat it was horrible . I left upset as I felt I couldn’t complain again so left very unhappy as it was a birthday treat .
