I booked a week in advance because I know my in laws are both disabled and one had a wheelchair I asked when booking would this be a problem they said NO. We arrived and where they had put us was in the backroom, we had to move everyone as we went though, disturbing everyone eating, my sister in law was embarrassed. We could not fault the food it was beautiful nice and hot, tasty and plenty of it. We would go again if they could sort the wheelchair issues

This was our first visit to the pub and I had high expectations. The food was delicious and the servings are quite large, I couldn't finish all mine! But it was delicious nonetheless. The only faults I had with the place is that our table was dirty when we were taken to it and there were dirty napkins on the floor underneath the table. The staff could have been a little bit more enthusiastic, bar staff were blunt and quite rude on arrival and the waitresses could have made the effort to smile. There were screaming kids running riot in the foyer and playing with toys in the walkway which ruined the atmosphere for me. Definitely wanted a more relaxed meal. I would recommend booking in advance as it was very busy.

Make sure if booking a table you ring again a few days after to confirm they actually wrote it down. Booked a table for 9 - 20 days in advance only to find no one actually logged it. Very disappointing.

Took my wife for a birthday lunch today, we both had gammon, we were very disappointed with our meals, gammon was overdone and tough, chips had been reheated they were hard and had no taste, waitress asked if we had enjoyed our meal and told her no, said she would tell the chef, maybe better telling the owners. Place was very busy but with offerings like this I fail to see why. Very upset for my wife.

Saturday evening 6pm and the restaurant had a lovely atmosphere. Very busy and felt cosy and comfortable. The meals were really good and the desserts. Enjoyed my main (chicken with feta and bacon in a rocket sauce). Also enjoyed the lemon posset. The service was good. The only drawback was having to queue at the bar when you needed another drink. It would if service could include drinks orders so we don't have to break off from the party as the bar area was very busy.

Called in for Sunday tea. Modern and clean, but with a traditional feel, this is a lovely pub. It has a campsite out back with lovely views. The food is home made and delicious. At the time of writing, they had a Sunday menu that is £4.95 per starter or dessert and £10.95 for mains. The service was friendly and fast. Outside there is a nice area to sit under shelter or there is ample seating inside. We'll be back.

The food was terrible. Garlic mushrooms served on a cold plate. Roast chicken dinner Yorkshire pudding well overdone and inedible. Roast potatoes a strange grey colour and inedible. Chicken very dry. Chips cold and soft Peas shrivelled. Mashed potato only warm vegetables looked stale. We complained and were told by the waitress that they would knock off the price of one roast dinner. There was no apology from the manager or from the kitchen. Definitely will not go there again Sent from my phone

Visited with friends. Food amazing. Service very slow. In the past when visited waitress came to table, today after 30min went to bar ordered food. If they had said that in first place would have been helpful. Then when finished mains the waitress said would comecand take our dessert order. Nobody came, not busy, waitreeses hovering around the bar just chatting. Again ended up going up to the bar. Surroundings great, views over valley superb.

Booked table for Saturday evening, it was very busy but our table was ready and we ordered drinks at the bar, the service was very very good, plenty choice on the menu. I can honestly say everyone absolutely loved their meals, best meal I have had in a very long time, food cooked perfectly and plenty on the plate, glad I chose not to have a starter as I wouldn’t have finished the main. We had 2 pork belly, 1 steak and a steak pie. I could not fault a thing from the food to the service. This is my new favourite place in Huddersfield and will be back very soon.

Good evening, We have dined tonight at your restaurant as a table of 4 adults. We arrived and were told our table was number 24 and we could only use the table for 2 hours (16:30-18:30) had we known this earlier we wouldn’t have booked this establishment as we were catching up with old friends and would likely have been in the restaurant a number of hours. I had prawn cocktail and didn’t find it very palatable, my husband had steak and ale pie which he said it was burnt and quite salty. When we’d finished our meals we weren’t offered a desert menu, just given the bill. We found the staff unhelpful, quite ignorant and very unhappy in their job as once we’d ordered we didn’t receive any follow up to see whether everything was ok. We didn’t mention any of this as we were paying as we didn’t feel anything could have been done as none of the staff seemed remotely interested in whether we’d enjoyed our meal or not. We have dined with yourselves many times over the years and I don’t feel we would return or recommend.

Veg Al dente , carrots cauliflower and broccoli to be fair I’ve had a shared veg at other places for 6 that were smaller portions than ours for 2 . So much food I asked for a doggy bag ! ZERO stars. Second time I have been in the last month and twice had to send food back. Refused this time to take the food off the bill because that’s the type of cheese they serve on pizza, the dough was raw (see picture). Absolutely awful food and service. We saw the waitress drop the chips on the floor and come to the table and advise the chips would be 2 minutes like there was a delay - we’d ordered fish and chips and the pizza comes with side of chips. We received ONE plate of chips with no apology and reasoning. Would not recommend this again, this was a favourite of ours and seems to have completely gone downhill.

Great spot and I was looking forward to celebrating my birthday with friends We ordered 2 lasagne and one steak and ale pie The steak and ale pie arrived first it was huge and by all accounts so tasty The lasagnes were totally a different story! I wouldn’t use the term lasagna to describe these dishes- they were both missing a ragu! They came as mince and onions in a wish washy gravy- with one sheet of lasagne topped with more mince and onion and drowned in cheddar Not tasty, not lasagne I would avoid anyone to avoid. The salad and garlic bread however was lovely - good job these were generous portions or I would’ve been hungry. As I couldn’t eat the above meal I ordered a Eton mess which was totally delicious

It’s quite a long time since we came and ate here considering we live in Mirfield but glad we chose to come back for our lunch today. We were a family of 4 my wife, son & grandson. We hadn’t booked as it was Monday lunchtime & thought getting a table would not be a problem which it wasn’t but the place was busier than we thought so will probably book next time. We took our seats at the table and after looking at the menu & eventually deciding what to eat we ordered at the bar & got some drinks, the starters came quite quickly and our kids meal as requested came with them. Between us we had creamy garlic mushrooms, the pate & toast & garlic bread with onion marmalade & cheese. The portion sizes were very generous bigger than other places we have been to. The mains followed that theme two of us having the steak & kidney pie & the other roast of the day. We were given more than enough vegetables & chips for the meal & had no room at all to even consider a dessert.Quality of the food was very good & freshly cooked. Service throughout was quick & friendly, so I was surprised to see the recent poor reviews on here before putting mine on but our experience was really good and we will certainly return.

Ordered the Beef Baguette with Gravy, tasted fine, but pretentious presentation was a massive inconvenience. Serving it on a breadboard that has a very runny gravy just doesn't work. Ended up asking for plates and transferred all the food onto there. Then the baguette was cut, cack handedly, so that is the first time I've had to eat a baguette with a knife and fork. All the faff was a bit too much for something that tasted just adequate. Also, ended up making a big mess because of it.

The last time we visited the steak was really nice, quite reasonably priced as on a meal deal with a bottle of wine. When we got our meal we asked the waitress if they still did the deal and said yes it starts at 6pm - we arrived at 5:45. Didn't matter anyway as my steak was tough and fatty. It was knocked off the bill. Went home for beans on toast. Brill night out - not. Won't return.

We have frequented this restaurant for many years. The views are spectacular, friendly and helpful staff and a wide choice of food on the menu - always well cooked. Unfortunately this has been marred by the difficulty we experience in booking a table. The phone is rarely answered by staff so you are asked to leave a message. On this occasion we left a message giving the details of our booking. When we arrived the staff said there was no booking. When I explained we had left a message we were told "we don't have time to pick up the phone or listen to messages" If staff are too busy to listen to messages then why suggest leaving a message? I am not prepared to continually phone in the hope that a member of staff will pick up the phone so, if I do get switched over to the answerphone I will hang up and go somewhere else. I have read through some the reviews and it seems I am not the first to complain about this!

Went out here for dinner the other night with a group of friends. The location and views from the table are fantastic, and the atmosphere of the pub was quite cosy. The place wasn't very busy, nor music been played too which I always consider a bonus when looking for somewhere quiet to eat and converse. The food is as to be expected for a typical pub grub menu. I had a sirloin steak, which wasn't the most quality cut of meat, but was cooked to a good standard. My Mrs had the surf and turf (rib eye, and what looked to be prawns in a tempura) she said she did not enjoy her meal at all. As a table of 6 we were sent out a big dish of chips to share, vegetables and salad also came out in sharing dishes. If you like doing this that is fine, but it is not clear on the menu nor from point of ordering from the staff, this was commented on by most of the party as not acceptable, but personally I am fine with it. Puddings ordered, were the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, not like any cheesecake I've ever come across and was more like a set mousse with a fair bit of gelatine used to set it. A panacotta was ordered and this came out as a tart, which was pretty poor in honesty. Nice place, nice staff, food is quite mediocre but acceptable. Would I eat in here again? Sure I would.

Fantastic haddock, chips and mushy peas. It was hanging off both sides of the plate lol. Will return soon.

Was there last night 12th May around 7pm roast chicken dinner with Yorkshire pudding was inedible. The roasties had been overcooked they were black, pudding hard and the chicken breast chewy. My companion had the Steak pie which he enjoyed but the accompanying veggies weren't great either. We visited a couple of weeks ago and our meals were very good. Very disappointing. Unsure whether we'd return

Nice pub with great views. Nice food but I felt my portion of lamb tagine was too big - tasted great though Would have preferred a smaller portion and maybe a flatbread to go with it

Best fish and Chips around. Wonderful owners. You can tell the effort that goes in because of the quality that comes out. Always a good laugh when you go in as well. Yes you have to wait 10 minutes but that’s because it’s fresh made. Nothing sat waiting, going cold, just the best fish and chips in town.
