Very good pub meal Monday evening, large pie and fresh veg very tasty and the service was excellent

"Are you here for breakfast?" Said the friendly Yorkshire woman, who greeted me. Such a simple but perfect question, it made me feel welcome and confirmed exactly what I wanted to know. The breakfast they served was ridiculously good! Like, super tasty-good. Possibly the best I've ever tasted-good! Highly recommended.

Very disappointed left hungry 😒. I ordered the ribeye steak and my husband ordered the burger. The last time we visited the steak was really nice, quite reasonably priced as on a meal deal with a bottle of wine. When we got our meal we asked the waitress if they still did the deal and said yes it starts at 6pm - we arrived at 5:45. Didn't matter anyway as my steak was tough and fatty. It was knocked off the bill. Went home for beans on toast. Brill night out - not. Won't return.

Usually a nice experience. Food is mediocre but staff are friendly at least until i complained that leaning on the table had left a sticky black tar like stain on my brand new £80 football shirt. I was told manager would come speak to me however after 5 mins i had to get into a taxi i left my number and didnt get anything back i paid my meal in full and got nothing in return....beware dont lean on tables and definitely dont wear a white shirt after seeing what happened to my red shirt.

We had my step dad's birthday/retirement meal there so there was about 16 of us and the staff were brilliant to us, really friendly and couldn't do enough for us, food is gorgeous here

Lovely staff fast and friendly very well atentive.. I got the roast of the day .giant yorkshire pudding with beef and spuds . Unfortunatly the food to me was like it had been cooked once early that same day if not the previous day then cooked again for me hours later ..beef was tough...yorkshire pudding was rock hard and broke into crumble and oil..like it had been cooked 3 times...kind of put me off wanting to try the rest of the menu ...microwave vibes...shame because if fresh would of been top notch... Beautiful veiws ..great staff . I would go back for a beer .

Beautiful views are what attracted us to the restaurant is very clean and styled to fit the history of the building. The food was OK and service was brilliant.

Came for a 50th anniversary event. Had great food, great service with very polite and helpful staff and the building and general environment is spectacular. Definitely worth a visit for anyone fancying a meal out or even just a pint with a beautiful view!

Came has a party of 9 wish I had taken notice someone told me the standard had dropped But because we had been several times although not recently I thought it was just their opinion There was a mix up of orders I was very disappointed didn't think the food was up to the quality we had before don't know if they have changed chef or menu

£16 for a beef burger locally produced, wot a con, was ok but nowt to brag about, probably aimed at the people who are caravaniers in next field,??????? EVERYTHING WAS OVER PRICED, Google near by eats if u r planning to eat here, bet u get a better deal???? By the way I am local so I know,

We have frequented this restaurant for many years. The views are spectacular, friendly and helpful staff and a wide choice of food on the menu - always well cooked. Unfortunately this has been marred by the difficulty we experience in booking a table. The phone is rarely answered by staff so you are asked to leave a message. On this occasion we left a message giving the details of our booking. When we arrived the staff said there was no booking. When I explained we had left a message we were told "we don't have time to pick up the phone or listen to messages" If staff are too busy to listen to messages then why suggest leaving a message? I am not prepared to continually phone in the hope that a member of staff will pick up the phone so, if I do get switched over to the answerphone I will hang up and go somewhere else. I have read through some the reviews and it seems I am not the first to complain about this!

Go before 6 it's cheaper. We had pizza to share with chips and salad me and my daughter , my husband had steak with fresh veg loads of food.

Booked in advance for my Dad's 60th Birthday only to turn up to the pub closed for the day. Absolutely no warning or communication from the pub to cancel our booking. Very disappointed.

Called in without booking and were seated straight away even though it was very busy for a Monday lunchtime. We both had roast of the day

Absolute fantastic, staff were amazing we had a party of 26 and they were spot on. Food was incredible and the portions were excellent. Venue is lovely amazing views a must go pub. Also I believe you can camp there and I recommended to friends down south.

Went out here for dinner the other night with a group of friends. The location and views from the table are fantastic, and the atmosphere of the pub was quite cosy. The place wasn't very busy, nor music been played too which I always consider a bonus when looking for somewhere quiet to eat and converse. The food is as to be expected for a typical pub grub menu. I had a sirloin steak, which wasn't the most quality cut of meat, but was cooked to a good standard. My Mrs had the surf and turf (rib eye, and what looked to be prawns in a tempura) she said she did not enjoy her meal at all. As a table of 6 we were sent out a big dish of chips to share, vegetables and salad also came out in sharing dishes. If you like doing this that is fine, but it is not clear on the menu nor from point of ordering from the staff, this was commented on by most of the party as not acceptable, but personally I am fine with it. Puddings ordered, were the white chocolate and raspberry cheesecake, not like any cheesecake I've ever come across and was more like a set mousse with a fair bit of gelatine used to set it. A panacotta was ordered and this came out as a tart, which was pretty poor in honesty. Nice place, nice staff, food is quite mediocre but acceptable. Would I eat in here again? Sure I would.

Went with work colleagues, meals are really good with good sized portions, well worth a visit.

I went on Father's day, it was a set menu, we sat at our table for ages before we asked for someone to take our order, we were then told to order food at the bar, the food wasn't hot, 3 adults shared a small dish of vegetables, the roast potatoes must have been sat in a warmer for hours, I'm not sure why I was given the option of chips or mash potatoes if there was roast potatoes with the meal, didn't enjoy the meal at all.

7 of us and every meal was different. All arrived at the same time and piping hot. Staff very polite and accomodating. Extra jug of custard free

Excellent: service, choice of food and portion size. We could only manage a starter and a main, this from 2 ladies with good appetites! The surroundings were well decorated and clean. The only negative was the pork crackling didn't!

The Sunday dinner was not great. The Yorkshire puddings were tough and not fresh. The roast potatoes were terrible, they aren’t roast potatoes how we all like them. The stuffing was rock hard and dried out. We came a few month ago and wasn’t good then but said we would try them again. The lamb shanks were good & starters were nice. Ashame as we do like the pub itself and atmosphere.

Disappointed with the food. The vegetables were watering, roasts hard and dry, lamb very pale although tender. Chips over cooked and Yorkshire pudding very dry. We booked here as was told the food was homemade and fresh. We was a party of 12 but this was not what we expected. We hope they will react to the comments and improve.

Was there last night 12th May around 7pm roast chicken dinner with Yorkshire pudding was inedible. The roasties had been overcooked they were black, pudding hard and the chicken breast chewy. My companion had the Steak pie which he enjoyed but the accompanying veggies weren't great either. We visited a couple of weeks ago and our meals were very good. Very disappointing. Unsure whether we'd return

Fantastic haddock, chips and mushy peas. It was hanging off both sides of the plate lol. Will return soon.

Nice pub with great views. Nice food but I felt my portion of lamb tagine was too big - tasted great though Would have preferred a smaller portion and maybe a flatbread to go with it

Went for Sunday Lunch on the 12th May, very disappointed, chicken was severely overdone and chewy, roast potatoes were clearly cooked in the morning and left all day, yorkshire pudding was hard and crispy, nothing fresh about any of it, such a shame as I've eaten from here several times and never had this, on reflection really wish I had said something at the time as it was a huge waste of over £100 for 6 of us.

Stopped off for something to eat on the spur of the moment, from the moment I walked in I was made to feel welcome and at home. Got my drink from the bar, found a table and sat down to peruse the menu, which for a pub at the dead centre of the south Pennines, had a substantial fish/seafood choice, heaven for a human dolphin like me. After slobbering and slavering over the menu I ordered the mussels in garlic and onion to start, my eyes bulged when they arrived, there was a small loch full of them, a mountain of magical mollusc marvel. Was treated to a fair breather out came my main, i plumped for the chicken chorizo cheese fillet with vegetables and new potatoes, the chicken was cooked to perfection, nice and moist and wonderfully complemented by the spicy chorizo and mild cheese. The vegetables were steamed to retain the crunchiness and texture rather than the usual falling to bits and collapsing into a mash with the every cut. A special mention to the staff who were superb, always seemed to be popping up at the right time, not looking over your shoulder waiting to pounce on the plates before you've finished your last mouthful, or asking every two minutes if the food was OK! I'll sure be returning again, a wonderful place for superb food, and at a very reasonable price too, with my starter, main, a soft drink and coffee all coming in for less than £25, can't go wrong. Lovely.

Have not been here for food since before lockdown. Used to be regulars for Sunday lunch which was excellent. But became very busy due to extention and obviously quality. Now retired am able to go on not so busy times. Everything was just as before, excellent food, service and drinks. Friendly welcome, not rushed very comfortable and spacious with tremendous views. Excellent.

We had a family meal out here. The food was lovely. We got a table near the large windows so got to enjoy the lovely setting. Will definitely come here again hopefully very soon.

I must say it's the best food and service we've had in a long time, we all enjoyed our meals the service was quick, we were all fed in under a hour!! No complaints at all.. They even ask us if everything was OK for us. I can't understand these bad reviews at all!! I would recommend this pub to anyone....

We were seated easily. Decor is OK. Ordered the Giant Yorkshire pudding, chicken breast and vegetables. Steak and mushroom pie with mash and vegetables. The Yorkshire pudding and chicken breast was without a shadow of a doubt warmed up and not fresh. The mash potato had 3 marble sized black lumps in.We were waiting for the standard walk by of our waitress, to ask how everything was. That didn't happen. We had pushed the entire meal to the opposite side of the table whilst the other carried on eating. Waitresses walked by and looked, the other played on her phone. Once our waitress came to clear our plates she asked how the food was we explained, "It's not good and why. She said she'd tell the chef. On her return, the response was they would knock half off the bill because it was our fault we didn't tell them about it. That said, we'd waited a reasonable amount of time for it to arrive in the 1st place. We'd noticed a gent had arrived after us and served before. I considered he was a regular. We declined the half off. Paid in full and said we just wouldn't rerun. At no point did anyone apologise

Took a person I was supporting here for lunch. Arrived at 11.25 but couldn't order from the lunchtime menu until 12 as they were still doing breakfast orders until 11.30. Ordered a Pepsi which was put on a tab and we went to find a table and wait. Unfortunately the person I was supporting drank his drink before the food was even ordered. Ordered a club sandwich and a cajun chicken sandwich with a portion of homemade chips to share. The food came fairly quickly, the club sandwich was cut into triangles and on a skewer with a nice side salad. The cajun chicken sandwich was thick and looked good and also served with side salad. The club sandwich "toast" was undercooked and soft, but the ingredients inside were very nice and the side salad was fresh and tasty. The chips at £3.50 a portion were a complete letdown. They came in a small ramekin and there was lots of scrappy bits which were not even hot, they didn't taste freshly made and the portion was very small. I used to come here a lot with my husband and in the past the portion of chips was very generous, easily shared and big homemade chunky chips in the dish. I was asked if everything was OK with my meal and I mentioned to the server clearing the plates away afterwards that the chips were not very good. I then went to the counter to pay and was asked again if we enjoyed our food and I mentioned that we were letdown by the chips but the bill remained the same despite being disappointed. Total bill 1 Pepsi 2 sandwiches and 1 portion of chips £19.80.

been a number of times, today got charged £30 when shuld have been £23, also charged £1.00 for extra gravy will not be going again.

Good menu - duck pancakes were really salty and prawn starter was different. Portions are big so wasted alot of food.

Food l9vely ervice good but heard bar staff...one swore.two were heard to say were just going for a wee and thirdly a great debate about what they all should wear for a uniform !!!! Not really acceptable behaviour for front of house staff. I raised these issues at the bar as i was paying for our two meals...very sadly to say the girl who took my money delt with my comments in an unprofessional manner. .no customer skills what so ever. I felt let down ad a customer..its highly unlikely we will go there again

TBH overall good but I chose Lamb Shank which I had on a previous visit before Xmas and it was excellent. Unfortunately this time it was nothing sort of rubbish. Change of chef maybe or supplier not sure but one or the other needs to be changed. On a positive note my wife had the veggie lasagne which she really enjoyed. Will give it one more try to see if they have improved if not we won't be going again. NB to chef maybe if you had slow cooked the lamb then the problem wouldn't have arose. I believe I was not the 1st to complain.

Visited here today and ordered 2 meals,steak and ale pie ,we were served with all the veg and small plate of chips for 2 people, they were not chips but scraps of potatoe mostly bad ones,therefore we asked for them to be changed.They arrived after 5 mins of waiting so we began our meal.Then on the way out a waitress came rushing to the outside doorway where we were exiting ,and stated we owed them £3.50 for the extra portion of chips ! After disputing our case we were rudely told we have to pay anyway,we paid her and said we wont be coming here again .Shame the owner cant do his own dirty work but send a young girl out to instead.Bad management ,overpriced and arrogant owner.Lost more than us as customers ,stay away.

Lovely pub. I was driving so just had a coke. I had Cumberland sausage and onion mash with peas. The sausages were not very spicy and the mash a little on the "stiff" side. I also had a "warm" chocolate thingy with custard which was microwaved for far too long and totally destroyed it 😕. I won't eat there again unfortunately, as before it had been very good.

A tad more costly, but well worth it.

Food was really basic tasted bland not much quality about it, over cooked Yorkshire's and roasts undercooked veg, had to wait ages and wasn't busy staff seemed to be more interested in talking to eachother, ordered desert's and never arrived very very inattentive staff, gone downhill wont be going again, wouldn't let me post without putting a star or wouldn't of got any, would not recommend to friends

Excellent service,food and atmosphere. Couldn't fit me in for the time I wanted but called me back with an acceptable alternative. Beautiful place with great views. Would highly recommend this place but get your booking in early. We will definitely be going back.

Love this place...food never fails...was just gutted that there was no homemade mushroom soup...

Treated my family to Boxing Day meal. We had to ask for menu after waiting about 15 minutes. Ordered a started and when it was brought we had to chase one of the staff for cutlery. Main meal then arrived and tureen, gravy boat etc were all chipped which we did mention to staff nothing but nothing was said. Meal wasn't brilliant and left most. I asked for one scoop of ice cream for my dessert and was told I had to have 4 scoops!!! My son had jam roly and said it was very dry. Very disappointed with this meal. I asked if this place had changed hands as I had been before and it was very good, but not today. I won't be coming back here in a big hurry and certainly won't recommend it to any friends. Seeing as it was Christmas there was no atmosphere whatsoever either. .

Great food at a reasonable price.

Called in for lunch and chose fish & chips from the day time menu. Plenty of chips & peas but the fish was disappointing. Smooth not crispy batter and tasted like frozen fish. Eaten here before and that was OK but this last time disappointing.

Lovely fresh-cooked, good quality food - every time we go. It is always dependable for food and service.

This rating is for having a customer as violent as that man who hit women and men. And as for that thug - since we don't know you are yet, I urge you turn yourself in before we find you. And be on the lookout even later. You are going to get what's coming to you and nothing will prevent that from happening. It may be a week from now, a month, maybe a year. I hope you read this.

My wife and I enjoyed a lovely roast dinner this evening served by excellent and cheery staff. The traditional pub food was very plentiful and the meat and vegetables were of good quality and cooked perfectly and served hot. It's been a while since we've visited the blacksmith's Arms but we will definitely be returning at some point in the future to further sample their menu. Thank you.

Went on a first date here, so this pub will always have a special place in my heart. Eaten a couple of meals here which have always been delicious. It's got a nice country pub feel.

We had booked then read the reviews so quite anxious about going. However we couldn't fault it. We arrived late due to horrendous traffic problems but staff were fine about it. They seated us straight away. As on previous visits we ordered two Sunday roasts, one with chicken and one with beef, at the bar and the food arrived very quickly. It was hot and delicious. All the young girls who served us food and at the bar were friendly and efficient. The table was cleared in good time and we were asked if we wanted a dessert which we declined as we were quite full. The pub was very busy but all seemed to go well at all the other tables. Only one slight negative. We were quite cold where we were seated, it was quite cold outside, but we soon warmed up. We will definitely be back

Sadly disappointed after a couple of great visits. Food suboptimal, next course brought before previous plates cleared. Service not the best either, slow and definite air of tired / lethargy. Unfortunately it was enough to put me off returning

We went at lunchtime. The lunchtime menu is a very reasonable price. Portion sizes were large both for the mains and the sweets. Although there were many diners, the tables were sufficiently well spaced so no feeling of being uncomfortably close. Altogether a delightful experience.

Service agonisingly slow Went for Sunday Lunch 6 adults and 2 small children (4&5 years old) Booked for 2.30 and arrived 2.20 Was told table wasn’t ready and actually had to rush previous diners from the table We later discovered why they were delayed Sat down at 2.45. When it got to 3.35 my daughter enquired at the bar when they would take our order after another 10 minutes a girl from behind the bar came and took our order Only one of our party wanted a starter and we ordered our mains with 2 kids meals 30 minutes later the waitress returned with a starter and 2 kids main meals (?) A further 30 minutes later my daughter once again returned to the bar to enquire where our meal was We did eventually get it and the food was very good but oh dear the service is diabolical won’t be returning As you can imagine with two small girls keeping them entertained in a crowded room was difficult Think they need a Maitre D to sort this out or more staff in the kitchen

Sadly you can't leave a zero rating. My Son made a reservation for 17:30 for 5 people for Sunday 29/10/23. We duly arrived at 17:20 and announced our arrival to the bar staff expecting to be shown to our table. Our booking had been given to someone else. The young person behind the bar claimed the booking was for 17:00 and after calling us to enquire why we weren't there had received no reply so consequently reallocated to another party. This was a downright untruth from the young lady as no call had been received from them. The booking had been made for 17:30 and was confirmed at the time and had been read back in full at the time of booking. The attitude of the young lady was truly shocking as well. If they had admitted they had made an error we would have been more forgiving but to blatantly lie left a pretty sour taste in the mouth. Shocking Customer Services from the staff and rude with it. In the end we walked out in disgust at the behaviour of the staff and made a last minute reservation elsewhere. Heartily recommend the Naggs Head at Fixby who accommodated us superbly at such short notice

I would first like to say that the place is beautiful and clean with fabulous views. The girl behind the bar was really nice and friendly. We ordered four different meals. Three were good but my friend had Steak and kidney pie and sad to say the meat inside the pie was cold. We called our waitress over to let her know, we were on table 8 booked for 1pm. She didn’t apologised but took the plate away and five minutes later the plate was returned, obviously it had just been put in the microwave as everything else on the plate, that had been started to eat, was in the same place. Still no apology. After we had finished our main meals we must have waited at least 15 minutes for the table to be cleared and in the end had to ask the waitress to do it. Must say this didn’t go down very well and her face told it all. We then asked to see the desert menu. The reply was “there is one on your table” no there wasn’t! She did eventually bring us one and just more or less threw it at us. We decided to leave with no pudding! We went to pay and once again the girl behind the til was lovely. Sad to say if this girl does not like her job she should try to find another, that hopefully she will like. I worked for over 30 years with public and no matter how you feel or what is happening in your life it should not be taken out on the customer.
