The Star Inn in Kirklees

Two of us went for Sunday lunch. One had meat and potato pie and the other had the roast beef dinner. Food was hot, really tasty and well cooked and nice selection of veg. Staff were friendly and service was good. The pub is nicely decorated and the outside area is very nice. It was very quiet and not many customers which is such a shame for such a nice venue

I took part in the Midfield Rotary Club Star Car Rally today, and it started from here. Included in the entry was a full English breakfast, and it was superb. Egg, bacon, sausage, beans, mushrooms and tomatoes. All cooked to perfection, and served very quickly indeed by the hard working staff. The breakfast and the staff are a real credit to the pub. A good day.

Went for a private event. The food was delicious (not sure I've ever had better chips!) and the staff could not have been more welcoming. Will definitely look to go back in the future.

I’ve been to this pub several times for lunch and a drink. Always found it to be okay. Took a friend today and was really disappointed. I ordered twice baked cheese n chive soufflé as a main. Portion size was really small served a few salad leaves and sundried tomatoes. I commented on my disappointment. No apology made. Not good customer service. Puts me off returning.

Great local pub, modern, clean with a good selection. Everyone was friendly, not much more to ask for.

First time for me and never knew the pub existed. Great beer garden and great real ale too. Will definitely be back!

Visited for pizza and chicken enjoyed it very much. So thought would return again for pizza night. Only one other table having food. Waited over 45 minutes. No atmosphere at all. Would return for a drink in the beer garden but sadly not food. Such a shame this pub could be thriving as theres not much in the local area.

The World Famous 'Yorkshire & Beyond' walking group do a Bluebell walk round here & decided to this year have the end of walk meal at the Star Inn . Very well organised to cater for a group of 18 people. The food was amazing & all the meals came out quickly together. I had the Seabass with Chorizo bubble & squeak & veg which was a new combination for me but amazing taste - cooked perfect. Set in very pleasant surroundings with a very large carpark & garden with plenty of seating. The interior has an oriental stone flagged floor in the lower area & the upper dining area has a really fresh & airy feel. Thank you to Ian & all the staff for the excellent service.

Coors £4.80 a pint when I popped in mid afternoon one Friday in May (2024). Nice lady outside doing some planting gave me a cheerful hello, I seemed too much trouble for everyone else 😔. I actually thought place was closed but they'd left the door open...

Food was so fresh & nicely cooked. I had the Cajun chicken & bacon sandwich, partner had a burger, and we were both so impressed. Hidden gem and don’t know how it doesn’t have better ratings!

Lovely quiet meal after a Saturday walk. The fact they let you construct a burger rather than having to pick the closest thing to what you want is a great idea to me. Good choice of beers too. My partner had the steak sandwich which was a perfect medium-rare. Will be back again!

I like this pub, staff are always friendly, got a good selection of beers and dog friendly. Pub is well looked after, can't think of any faults really just a nice pub!

Had my mums wake at the star,from the first time I walked in to enquire and on the day of mum’s funeral they were superb,never rushed me.they showed me a full range of food options (to fit all budgets and tastes)they even went above and beyond for my 2 fussy grandsons. All I can say is well done to all.

The Star were brilliant and very accommodating today for our funeral gathering. Would recommend for any occasion or just a pint!!

The worst table Service I have had in thirty years of dining out. Over an hour between courses two hours fifteen minutes for two courses in a soulless grey room with no atmosphere and a bloke serving with a terrible attitude needless to say we won’t be going again

We were there for a close family wake. The food that was provided was delicious, and the coleslaw was, I'm assuming homemade and would love the recipe it was very, very tasty.

1st visit to the star. Nice place, friendly staff and good service. The food was really nice too

Grumpy landlord, poor food and only 1 real ale on tap. We had lasagne which was burnt and the batter on our fish was undercooked. We won't be going back which is a shame. The pub has such potential.

This was for a funeral tea, but was very good!

The Star's been around for years in various guises. With a bar, dining room and function room. Visited recently for a funeral tea. The pub now has a conservatory set up for food, a bar area and seating for drinkers that doubles for eating. Decor is light and airy and the seating is a mixture of fixed upholstered areas and both upholstered and solid chairs. All are quite comfortable. A buffet was provided and was ample and very tasty. Cooked meats were excellent. On this showing I'll probably go back for a more 'normal' visit. As it is I was impressed.

Visited the Star Sunday Eve 6pm. Pub empty apart from small family eating. Had chicken and leek pie...looks like it had been cooked ages ago. Dry and not nice to look at. Buttery mash was one large desert spoon full and very small helping of veg. My partner had vegetarian Moroccan cuscus was very very dry. Not cheap prices ...poor food. Won't be frequenting this pub again.

Drinks and meal both fantastic 5 star . Amy the waitress very professional and friendly. We will be back.

Been 3 times in the last 2 months. Staff are spot on and very friendly. Not had a bad meal here, scoffed the lot. Little gem, that people miss. Chips are proper grand I tell ya. Give this place a go.

Just called in for a drink, a historic old pub with very modern interior. Enjoyed my pint of Timothy Taylor, the staff were cheerie and helpfully. Good beer garden and plenty of parking.

Great outdoor seating area, very relaxed and friendly setting. Food was very yummy and service prompt and polite!

Very disappointing meals , cold and over cooked .We toke my father for fathers day , he couldnt even cut through the crust on the pie , there was no more than four peices of meat inside the pastry .Garlic mushrooms were cold served in a cold dish with one small dried end of a baguette. I had chicken in a red wine sauce the chicken was microwaved and like rubber and the sauce was just like water .So disappointed, the pub is lovely and clean and the young girls were very friendly and helpful but other than that it was a dreadful experience!!!

Myself and 3 others decided to call in to the star last night sat 6th May and unbelievably was greeted by the most rude and unprofessional bar women I’ve come across. We left straight away and took our business elsewhere . I would not recommend this place at all until some good customer service is provided .

My Wife passed away in March this year. The Funeral Director recommended The Star Inn as a good venue for the Wake. Ian, the Boss, and his staff, looked after us so well, nothing was any trouble to them, they over catered for 90+ people, and allowed folks to take away anything left! The Pub itself is spotless, tastefully decorated, very spacious, warm and cosy, and, should it be a warm day, with a lovely sheltered Beer garden. They honoured us greatly, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

We had a repast following a service for my sister’s passing. The buffet meal (No 4) we selected was superb, the staff efficient and friendly and the venue is very pleasant & smartly decorated. There is a large quiet outdoor area with tables to allow some private conversations at events like these. The manager Ian was the perfect host, calm & organized with nothing too much trouble. I would have no hesitation in returning for another large family gathering.

My wife and I had the Valentines Meal Menu. Very simple choices and the food was absolutely delicious, well presented and the service from the bar staff was first class. Well done John our steaks were mouth watering!

We went here last Wednesday after a lovely walk & took advantage of the pizza deal,(2 for 1) probably one of the best pizzas we have tasted in a long time, washed down with a pint of Landlord & a nice glass of Merlot 😋🍕🍷🍺

Went there for my father's wake all the food was brilliant although it took a bit longer than we thought it would to bring it out but it was well worth the wait. Everyone remarked on how good it was and more than enough to go round, the staff were great also and we were all made to feel welcome.

Had a funeral do here they did us proud. The food was excellent and plenty. The Young girl behind the bar was great looking after the lot of us . As daft as it is people were saying that when they go they want their own do there it just felt right a very good send off. Thanks to all concerned at the Star Roberttown.

Been a plant based eater, finding something to eat at many restaurants/pubs can be difficult when out with friends. Phoned in advance and spoke with the chef who made a lovely spiced bean “Shepards” pie with veg. 3 empty plates and 1 who was stuffed and couldn’t eat anymore. Excellent service and great value.

Christmas dinner with the family..food was excellent, the staff were helpful and couldn't do enough for us. I would highly recommend it.

Just been for a family meal, we have had one of the nicest meals out ever food is absolutely fantastic it is cooked to perfection the fresh vegetables were totally delicious and we finished our meals with wonderful deserts the young waitress was very friendly nothing was too much trouble we were made to feel very welcome can’t wait to go again

My friends and I called in on the off chance it was very quiet we were told a funeral was due I ordered hot pork sandwich and chips and my friend had hot beef sandwich and chips and my other friend had another hot sandwich and chips all of us did not like the chips they were tasteless and hard and my pork was grisly we left nearly all our meal when the man came to take the plates away we mentioned the chips were triple cooked and he had no complaints they werñt triple cooked they were awful he said he would knock something off the bill which he did but I would rather have had a nice meal we wont be going there again

Called on for Sunday dinner, looked at carvery didn’t look like there was anything doing, no meats out no veg. Asked about food told yes we’re doing food, got a couple of drinks and were sat at a table looked at menu, waitress came after a little wait (very pleasant) we decided on the pie for mains waitress said she’d come get us when ready another little wait then came to tell us our food was ready and we could make our way down to carvery area, plates were hot and all food in carvery was fresh just made for us, all in all very nice loads of food we actually made mistake of ordering starters which when you see size of mains you don’t need really, we’ll be certainly coming back as food was lovely. All staff were great as well, reasonably priced for what you got

Called in had a pint and some lovely food great beer garden.

It was ok but won,t rush back. Chips were frozen. I,ve had better belly pork. The waitress was polite and helpful. Pub was nice and clean and pleasant. Chef and landlord were pleasant.

Nice atmosphere and good food. I ordered a cajun burger, but it was white throughout and tasted like a normal piece of chicken.

We attended here for food after my Grandad's funeral. The spread they put on was amazing. Staff were very friendly and the pub was lovely in side and very clean.

A lovely, historic place, well decorated with a fascinating old map running the length of one wall. We had excellent chicken tikka masala and homemade meat and potsto pie, both top quality and well cooked. Washed down with well kept cask Bradfield Farmer's Blonde.

Absolutely fantastic food tonight. Creamy garlic mushrooms starter and Tempura Brie . For mains Homemade Tempura scampi and Lasagna. As usual I stuck to stone base Pizza and it didn’t disappoint.

Brilliant meal & friendly helpful staff.

After waiting an hour for our mains, they came… and Jesus I wish they didn’t. “Loaded” burger was like a hockey puck, stone baked pizzas were frozen oven pizzas with half a piece of pepperoni on each piece and the chicken had to be sent back twice. When we spoke to the manager, he just said “well that’s how it is here! How much pepperoni do you want on your pizza?!?… well I want more than half a piece. He just refused to accept any responsibility or fault for the wait and the food. It wasn’t even busy and honestly, I’m not surprised. When other members of staff approach to apologise for the rudeness of the manager, you know you have a problem. Beer was decent, and Bar staff were lovely! Compare the pic on the website to what we got.

Nice pint of Farmers Blonde that was well kept albeit limited choice of other ales. Nice large sunny beer garden to enjoy.
