Arrived here to take advantage of the £20 two course afternoon offer. Good easy parking. An attractive pub with lovely atmosphere and plenty of seating. Received a warm welcome and sat in the lovely Conservatory. Excellent attentive service. Really nice menu. I had the pste starter, which was lovely, my wife having the mushrooms that looked so so good. Our main course was Steak and Ake pie, which again was good. Overall a thoroughly excellent meal in a lovely pub. Highly recommend.

Not sure where to start... Children's starter was a slice of burnt toast. Desserts were missing key ingredients. Sister ordered three different drinks as none of them were available. My dessert had a false eyelash in it. My daughter's meal tasted of washing up liquid as the dish had not been washed properly. I'm being kind giving it two stars really. The beef was okay, I guess.

Having lived in Cheshire for almost 30 years it’s always great to find somewhere new to go with friends, particularly when it’s a good find. We came away after our first visit to The White Horse thinking why haven’t we come here before as it’s a gem of a place. The 2 courses for £20 offers great value for money, especially as the quality of the food and the choice of dishes is excellent. We can recommend the Steak & Ale pie, Lamb Kofta and Cod Lion - all first class and individually prepared. We couldn’t fault the service either with a very attentive waitress looking after us throughout the meal which left us happy to pay the 10% discretionary service charge.

Average at best. Found the food and drink overpriced glass of house Pinot £9. Went with a small group. Pub is “nicely” done up. Service was adequate with service charge added automatically to the bill which I object to as this should be discretionary. The menu is limited in what it offers the portions were small and we aren’t big eaters, I came home hungry, after eating ham egg and chips at £19. Ham was bought in and thinly sliced, the eggs were cold and greasy, chips were huge over cooked (what there were of them), and soggy. Pie (not available ) was £21.

Food is excellent, service was too! The 2 course lunch is excellent value at £20 & there’s a lot more choice than you’d usually get on a lunch time deal.

Popped in for coffee yesterday and was warmly welcomed in this beautifully restored pub. This was great because we were covered in mud and the dog was dripping wet! This boded well for supper. Seated in an airy conservatory we were presented with a menu that had something for everyone including ham egg and chips, and pies and other more exotic dishes. I plumped for the cod loin and it was perfectly cooked. Crème brûlée was yummy. Accompanied by a good picpoul de pinet. Lucky, lucky Churton

Had great hopes for this, the "Gastro Pub" in Elite bistro stable Food was tasty BUT Year 1 of the Catering course for food presentation. The Pie and chips were 'brown' it was a brown pie with large brown cips covered in a brown gray Not a cherry tomato or a pea shoot to relive the 'browness' The chefs prepared, and we we served, our main course before our starters, We were promised that the meal would be re-cooked and not just kept warm!!!! My fish and chips should be renamed as fish and deep fried roast potatoes as the potatoes were quartered therefore HUGH Not up to the standards of the Sticky Walnut or even the better Marstons pubs locally

A lot of 5 star reviews on this site. I suggest people explore a little further. I wanted to like this place but Sunday lunch very average and for £22. Much better value elsewhere. Staff were very friendly though. Beer and wine about average cost. The smallest slither of a pudding I’ve ever seen and a spoon of ice cream. Don’t go if you are hungry. Shame. Won’t be returning .

well this place did not disappoint! we had high hopes as we love the Elite bistros other restaurants and we were delighted when the food was every bit as good as their other restaurants. The beef and ale pie with truffle chips was to die for as was the cod. It was a quiet Tuesday afternoon but you could tell this place would be even better when it’s busy. The staff were friendly and attentive and we enjoyed coffee and desserts in the sunshine of the beer garden area. Will definitely be back especially as the deal is 2 courses for £20!

Booking really easy but a little put off by the two hour table reservation. Opted to sit in the bar, greeted warmly and quickly provided with a menue by a very friendly waitress. Chose from the two courses for £20 menue. Lots of delicious sounding dishes and decided upon the stout rarebit on sourdough and sticky belly bacon both of which were very tasty and seasoned perfectly. I chose the flatbread and chicken tikka with salad leaves which also came with unecessary fries which was carb overkill, but stunning. I would have preferred more salad. My friend chose steak and ale pie accompanied by potato wedges and little evidence of veg except for beetroot ketchup. Yes we could have ordered sides of carrots or broccoli but both meals were over heavy on carbs. After a relaxing break we ordered coffee and creme brulees. The coffee was delicious as was the brulee but would have benefitted from some sharpness to cut through the unctuous sweetness. Minor comments that cannot detract from a brilliantly served, thoroughly enjoyable meal.

Been here twice now for the two course for £20 lunch. I won't go into all the food but everything was excellent. Drinks a bit pricey but service from the young team excellent. Abby's cheesecake excellent.... Will return.

Small plate sized child like portions at Central London prices . The owner thinks he can get away with these way overstated prices , but the truth is customers won't put up with it , especially when the food put in front of diners leaves a lit to be desired. Vegetables overcooked and soggy , meat very fatty and why is everything drowned in salt ? Overall a poor experience and would recommend one of the many alternatives nearby for better quality and more options.

Delicious food at The White Horse on a Friday evening in a lovely setting. We enjoyed a relaxing drink on the bar before being shown to our table. Highlights for me were the arinchini started and the soft shell crab burger - amazing. Portions were large as we all left well fed and the service friendly and efficient.

Delicious food with a clever, simple menu that delivered on flavour. We were a party of four, all chose different starters and mains, and all were equally lovely. Impressive! Of particular note was the service which was of a very high standard. Jemma served us with ease, nothing was too much trouble, and all staff were very friendly. We will definitely be back.

Always great to be at The White Horse! Food is consistently excellent and the service for me is second to none - always friendly and served with a smile. We have been to three of the guest chef nights but still find time to come to the pub for a lunch or early dinner. Even our very fussy eating niece loves it! We are working our way through the menu. Frickles to start are a staple (obviously) and mains we keep being seduced by the specials. Favourite desert has to be the sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce which is so moorish followed closely by the ice cream with honeycomb. Really so lucky to have this within a relatively short distance (25 minutes) and the drive there is lovely!

Our anniversary meal for two was accompanied by an excessively loud bunch of around six people stoked with several glasses (bottles?) of wine it would seem! Interestingly this was Deja vu from a previous anniversary meal here last year but I digress. Our starters were reasonably quick to arrive although I could find little trace of garlic in my field mushrooms whilst my wife’s smoked mackerel pate had a bone in it. My main course was a flat iron steak with peppercorn sauce and some Parmesan chips which had a rather significant amount of salty crystals attached. The steak itself was quite thin and chewy and rather overpowered by copious peppercorns and a creamy sauce which left me perspiring! I realise this is a bistro pub but £25 for a mouth full of pepper ? Unlike our boozed up neighbours I chose a large glass of Rioja at £8 which was quite pleasant but disconcertingly acquired a further £72 on our bill which I absently paid and only noticed when looking to see what the service charge was. We had requested the bill faster as we just could not stand the garbled shouting of our neighbours any further and I noted another couple who also commented on the noise left swiftly rolling their eyes just prior to ourselves! The wine overcharge was of course a mistake and the mortified young lady who assisted in rectifying was most apologetic and refunded the full £80 I had been charged to my bank and I will wait to see if this does appear although I’m sure it will be fine. I wanted to like this place as the staff are really nice but seem reluctant to point out certain courtesies that customers may be expected to undertake but I guess it’s a pub first and foremost which seems at odds with its desire to prepare fine dining menu’s. I’m not altogether sure if the area to the rear of the building is quieter but if you do visit be warned if your shown a table at the front entrance bar side which we won’t be doing again!

Really lovely to celebrate our anniversary here, menu was fantastic for 2 course £20 deal and great sized portions, the staff were super and genuinely appeared to enjoy their jobs which was nice to watch. We love Burnt truffle and Sticky Walnut so wanted to try here for some time. Great gluten free options and wish we had room for pudding !! A great reason to come back. See you again.

Excellent food Excellent service, table of 9. Better cross section of wines perhaps as average price of £40+ is a bit high for a family outing, ok for a couple but when you need 3/4 bottles it gets a bit pricey. overall a good experience, 4/5th visit & will return

This is a gastropub that we visit if in the Wrexham-Chester area, if we are accompanied by our dog. We love dining in the dog-friendly bar area: it is cosy due to one or two log fires being lit in winter; the decor is tasteful; the tables are big and not close together. Furthermore, the welcome is always warm. The menu is probably not to the traditionalists' liking, but we like it because the dishes are simple, flavoursome and provide lots of options: snacks, sides, small plates, big plates, sharing plates and chef's specials. If I were to suggest additions to the menu, perhaps more sea-food and curry/continental dishes. But having said that, The White Horse: 'serves uncomplicated, unpretentious, delicious food by a team who love what they do and want to make every dining experience feel special. Our seasonal menu features comforting pub dishes' ... and they certainly succeed in doing that. Although we don't live locally, we have visited two or three times over the last 12 months, including one special dinner for 6 (and a dog of course). The service has always been on point in our experience, and the service today from two young waitresses was exceptionally polite and efficient. No complaints, and lots of good reasons to return.

Short notice Sunday lunch. All our favourite restaurants were full so I booked lunch here as we fancied a drive out. On arriving we were seated right next to the waiter’s station but in a fairly quiet dining room. Before ordering we asked if we could move into the conservatory but were told this wasn’t possible as customers would be turning up literally any minute. We sat for a while before ordering a drink then eventually ordered food. The white wine wasn’t cold so my wife asked for some ice. Then after 10 minutes asked for ice again. The bar was about 5 feet away from the table. The starters were a little odd. Sam’s chicken liver pate was fairly bland , with a bizarre amount of rock salt scattered over it together with a large quenelle of onion chutney but no garnish at all. My mackerel pate was ok but salty. For the main course we had Sunday roast, one beef, one pork. We ordered a couple of glasses of red to accompany but even after reminding them after about 10 minutes I’d finished mine by the time it came. The food was ok at best, the service really very poor and the table we’d asked to be moved to remained unoccupied throughout our visit. When I was young I worked as a waiter so I NEVER leave without tipping. Until today that is.

I am staying at BW for work and booked dinner at Hilltops on my first night. I was initially nervous that there didn't appear to be anything suitable for vegans on the menu, but I double checked with the receptionist, who was very helpful and communicated my request to the restaurant. This was a short-notice request, so I was not expecting much, but the chefs went above and beyond. The tofu & veg curry was really tasty, and the choc fudge cake was delicious. I couldn't eat it all in one sitting, but the team prepared the leftovers for me to take to my room and eat later. Thank you to the talented kitchen team and wonderful front of house team at Hilltops!

We were visiting the Anderton Boat Lift which is just 10 minutes down the towpath from The Moorings. As the coffee shop there was quite full after the boat trip we decided to try somewhere else close by. The Moorings is a little gem of a place, run by chefs, so expect hotel like presentation of excellent food, which is worth waiting for. This is a totally different dining experience from the usual canal side cafe. Dogs are allowed inside on the hard floor area, but we sat outside with ours as it was a beautiful day and we could admire the canal boats in the marina.
