As a summertime pub, this is lovely: a quiet spot by the river with plenty of garden seating. The interior is pleasantly traditional and there are some great armchairs. The food, though, has been deeply disappointing. Small portions, inexpertly assembled, that are slow to arrive. Possibly I've been ordering the wrong things - the people with fish and chips were happy - but I'd hoped for more.

Very disappointed the lamb was tough the roast potatoes were hard and the gravy was like water, the only nice thing was the Yorkshire pudding.Probably won’t be going back

Amazing food as always! Cooked expertly & the staff are superb! I came with my father, husband & son on Friday 3rd for a meal, early evening. We had amazing food, Tom served us & was friendly & welcoming as always when we have been there. The drinks & food are always outstanding. We have never had a bad meal there! I would recommend this to anyone! The position of the pub right next to the water makes for beautiful scenery & atmosphere. The decor is tasteful. The staff are always friendly & polite & welcoming.

The beef was advertised as pink, it was overcooked, the roast potatoes were cooked too much, they were almost black on outside and not much potato inside. The plates were lukewarm to cold, veg was cool and time it was on the plate it was cold. The horseradish was dire, it was more like cream. I make my own from the actual root. Had I have been with my partner and not a group of friends, it would have been sent back to the kitchen. Bit difficult when out with a group. Yorkshire Pudding was ok and desert was. I realise you had problems with the overnight rain, but that was no excuse for the meal K C Kirk

Foursome sat in the beer garden (covered) in December with Os 🐾 Burger and chips all round ( one veggie, two vegan ) - prompt and efficient service from the friendly team at the White Horse. Food was very good - highly recommended 👍🏼

Really nice to visit the Horse again having previously lived down the road to remember our friend Marrk. The bar staff under the stewardship of Paul were second to none, polite , efficient and nothing to much trouble. The wake spread was very nice and was very enjoyable. It is a beautiful location for dinner. Very friendly and accommodating. A perfect little village pub. The food is gorgeous and the staff lovely. Would certainly recommend.

A Great Sunday Lunch for a gathering of the family .9 of us met up for a Sunday lunch CHICKEN & CHORIZO CASSOULET for starters for 2 of us and soup, choice of beef ,lamb or pork for the roast but I had Peppercorn Chicken and was blow away with the taste, Sticky Toffee for after . Service was great and food was hot. The only complaint was I had to pay for the brother-in law.

Very nice lunch here. Pleasant old pub in a secluded, canal-side setting, with lakes and walks just a few minutes away. Good value food, quick and courteous service. Lots of dogs to admire. Hard to beat!

First time in ages, we got the kids together (and the dog) staff were excellent as was the food. Even the dog was given a doggy bag (With dog biscuits)

Great food, lovely location, the focaccia sandwiches were su0erb, tuna cheese melt, and sweet cured bacon and brie. Hubby had the cajun chicken salad with halloumi fries as a side. Puds were divine, sticky toffee pudding and custard, and we girls had the sorbet, the blood orange was incredible.

We ate here today and it was wonderful. The staff were lovely, we chose the lamb roast dinner, thick slices of perfectly cooked lamb, loads of vegetables, lovely gravy. Followed by hot chocolate brownie and creme caramel ice cream! Fabulous.

Great place just to chill with some nice drinks and food with great surroundings. Tables need numbers so staff can find customers.

After a walk around the beautiful lakes, this is the ideal stop for lunch. The staff are very pleasant, the food is good and reasonably priced and the service is prompt. There is plenty of choice to suit all appetites and needs. I usually go for soup with either a sandwich or a light bite. Dogs, children and buggies are welcome but there’s plenty of room so they don’t interfere with everyone else. The garden near the river is lovely and shady on a hot day, and you just might see a kingfisher if you’re very, very lucky.

Arriving early evening we had full choice of the well spaced tables in the small dining room to the rear of the main bar. We were pleased by the decent wine and gin selection at reasonable prices. We ordered mains of fish pie (14.50), fish finger butty and fries (11.00) and Smokey Joe (bbq) burger (11.50). The fish pie came with a mountain of fresh vegetables on the side but lacking in prawns and salmon as described on the menu. The fish finger butty was excellent but the burger was only average. Our server was friendly and efficient but the food took a long time (almost 40 minutes) to arrive with only one other table in the bar being served before us.

Went here as it is local, for a drink, food and a good old chat with a friend.A few sitting outside in the beer garden, as the sun was setting, but we decided to sit inside and had plenty of choice near the fireplace. Eventually we decided to eat and asked for a table, it was very quiet in the restaurant area, such there were no staff around, not a problem we just asked at the bar, and sat where we wanted. Problem was nobody followed up with menus or to take our order, but we caught somebody's attention and order brie wedges, foccacia, camenburger with fries, and chicken salad.Starters came after a short wait, and went down well, mains shortly after: burger was a bit over-cooked despite asking for it a bit pink in the middle, but tasted nice. Salad seemed to hit the spot and was good sized portion, with a side of fries. They should perhaps promote mid-week eating as we were the only diners at about 8.30 so having a specials offer would help.Very comfortable lounge area near the bar, and overall experience was good.

Pub is one of my favourite settings, backing onto the water. Used to come here when kids weren't allowed in the pub and we sat in the gardens! Gardens still great place to sit and on a lovely day you could while away the hours quite nicely.The pub inside is comfortable and seats aren't on top of each other. We ordered the tuna melt/ panini and some chips, really really nice. You can't really rave about a sarnie, but seriously these were lovely, plated up nicely and full of ingredients. Service was quick and polite. If you fancy a bite to eat at a lunch time and near there, do go in. Cheap enough, clean enough, polite enough and in a great setting :-)

We have been here a few times and for the love of me I cant quite put my finger in where we are currently at. We are sort of somewhere between a pub with some hungry horse fodder and where it used to be a village put knocking out some quality food.Food, OK, portions sizes more than ample. Staff trained adequet and polite enough. I really dont know to be truthful, not bad, not good... has been better I suppose thats what I am getting at. One thing that does annoy me, why dont the staff who serve you all night actually take the money at the end? Either management dont trust staff with money... or the tips "get shared"... I think most people like to tip the server, well thats my opinion anyway.

Visited on a Friday lunchtime with 6 friends... we hired a narrow boat for the day and this pub was on route.. what a find! Gorgeous setting! Super friendly helpful staff and gorgeous food. Highly recommend a visit.

This pub does feel like its in the middle of the countryside even though it is close to Leicester. There is a big beer garden out front the menu was varied and the prices good. I ordered cod and chickpea curry from the daily menu. Unfortunately, I had to wait 40mins while others near me that ordered long after me got served their food. I eventually spoke to a person at the bar and finally got served. The fish was over cooked but the curry was fine. The staff were a not the friendliest. Pity about the service as the setting promises a lot. Also, stick to the burgers.

I was surprised by my family with a meal here for my 50th birthday. I must say that the staff were brilliant and helped make my stay memorable. In addition to this the food was lovely, came out all at the same time piping hot. I would definitely visit again, thanks to all the staff there!

Took our friend's here for a meal. Excellent table serve on an very busy Saturday evening. Food was fantastic, tasty, hot & well presented. Great choice for a vegetarian like myself. Very reasonably priced too for what we had. Staff couldn't do enough for us, even tweeking a desert to suit our preference. Well done, a very pleasant evening. Will definitely be visiting again

Great dog-friendly pub with lovely outside area, right next to Watermead Park. The burgers are brilliant - I hope the Camemburger becomes a permanent addition to the menu because it's absolutely incredible! Comes with tasty onion rings and nice quality coleslaw. Upgrading to the thick cut chips is well worth it, they're delicious.

Ended up in birstall after taking a detour so decided to try this lovely place. Plenty of seating indoors and outside, wide range of dishes available for Sunday lunch, partner and the salmon, haddock and prawn pie and i opted for pork roast dinner, beautifully presented, piping hot and really tasty food. Great service, really busy but plenty of staff when needed, definitely will be returning to try the main menu.

Raining outside, but sunny inside. Made very welcome and superb seaside plater from the specials menu. Really enjoyed the meal with a variety of seaside favourites. Dog friendly and he even got some biscuit treats of his own. Great way to spend time with family and friends.

Its all about the staff, if only they had some form of training or interest in their job, its as if they revel in the art of ignoring you. The food was fine but the portions were small. Trying to order, ask for drinks or even pay was so hard. When our bill finally arrive, some how the waitress managed to launch it on to our table from several feet away without speaking or even looking in our direction. At the start after a long wait, we manage to flag someone down to come to our table, we asked for the specials menu and the waitress went off and got the board and simply plonked it in my wife’s hands and left. When we ordered a bottle of wine, it wasn’t shown to us and we weren’t offered a tasing, it was poured into our existing wine glasses that still had a different wine in? A waitress did ask how our food was but she did it from the bar several feed away and while sorting something else out. We got fed up waiting to pay so I walked up to the bar, I was told I could find someone to pay round the corner or wait hear, I opted to wait hear and nothing happened. The waiter who first spoke to me did try to flag another waiter down but his colleague said, ‘’not now mate” I left my money on the bar and walked out in disappointment, as the pub has a great location and potential, it just needs a manager.

Popped in with my husband and our dog after a walk round the lakes. Nicely situated close to Watermead Park, it's a dog friendly pub,has nice beer garden & small park for children. Staff are friendly, nice to sit chill & chat with family & friends, serves great food, reasonable prices. Definitely a must

Fish Finger Sandwich, sorry to say terrible, I think they must be the cheapest ones they could find, 3 of us had this as a meal, and all said the same sort of thing, we had enjoyed a walk ,I had seen on Trip Advisor, White Horse good for food, the fourth person in our group had Caneloni, that was alright, What I should have done is sent it back as a very poor meal, but at the time ,we had enjoyed our selves and I don’t like making a fuss, I know we should complain more, I did say to the waiter when paying I would never order that again, we have had Fish Finger Sandwich before in other places, and they have been absolutely fab, but there, sorry to say no.
