This was a spur of the minute booking as it had been recommended by a friend. I called at 9 am on a Sunday morning hoping to book a Sunday lunch for that same day the phone was answered straight away with a very pleasant lady on the other end who replied no problem a very good start. The table booking was for 1 pm and when we got there we were shown to our table which had been reserved for us. We ordered food and drink, which arrived promptly with a smile and was delicious. Both the main and the sweet were excellent

The skittles alley has its own bar so you and your guests don’t have to keep fetching drinks from elsewhere. We went for skittles and unlike some other local pubs the skittles are easily accessed and not cluttered up with stacked tables and chairs - those in use are set out at the bar end of the room, so they do not get the way of play. You pay a room hire but this is very reasonable given that you have a lovely facility and a dedicated member of the team to serve. Food is delicious, plenty of it and reasonably priced. Lucy, Grant and all the staff are friendly and attentive.

As much as I like this pub, I just wish the managers would decide when they are actually going be open! The Facebook page says one thing, the latest Facebook post says another thing, the Wheatsheaf website says yet another thing, and the staff tell me something else entirely. It's now closed on Mondays, despite the web page saying they're open until late, and they made an exception for Easter Monday (I rang to check) and was told they're opening until 9pm as it's a Bank Holiday. The Facebook page says they are closed all day, but the Facebook update/post says open until 7pm. So, on this Bank Holiday Monday, are you closed, open until 7pm or until 9pm? Please, please just try to be consistent. This doesn't give a very good impression to the loyal local patrons who need to decide whether to bother coming down for a pint.

The Wheatsheaf Inn hosted my sports club's annual social/awards evening in their fabulous skittle alley on 09/03/24. We had approximately 70 guests, varying in age from 7 years old to 95 years. The feedback from all the guests has been brilliant and all positive, especially on the food and service provided by the Wheatsheaf. It was a very successful event, with the Wheatsheaf team being a major reason for the success. I would not hesitate recommending this venue, and the club will be booking it again for next year's social/awards evening. Cheers Andreas (Leicester Forest Cycling Club)

Went today for a family meal after being advised to book. The food and service were excellent and it’s not just a slung in the microwave dinner like a lot of places it was fresh and home cooked or sourced from local produce. It’s a family run pub and has a lot of different areas so wherever you are it always feels cosy and private. I used to love the Wheatsheaf but I now think it's overpriced and a little chaotic sometimes. So, I doubt we'll go back for another meal anytime soon, but it's still a good cosy pub when the fires are going, and it has a friendly atmosphere. I went with friends on a weekend evening and ordered the 'Derbyshire' pie, which was beef and ale. It was a very nice pie but not that large compared to the pies that the kitchen used to produce when the previous landlord and landlady were there. There was a little veg - a few bits of carrot and peas, and a too-large portion of mashed potato which I suspect was to make the meal look bigger! The pie, veg and mash were not in the right proportions to each other. It was also quite expensive for what it was - nearly £16, when I would have been quite happy to pay maybe £11 or £12. The young lady behind the bar was struggling to serve everyone despite the landlord being in the room chatting and I think he should have stepped in to help - I've noticed this before, and I don't think it makes them look good. Having said that the young lady, as nice as she is, probably is not ideally suited to bar work as she sometimes gets confused by the prices and forgets things, but that could be because she's rushing around trying to do too much. To be honest, the prices at the Bradgate in Cropston are much more reasonable and the portions are larger, but being totally fair, sometimes their food is not quite as tasty as the Wheatsheaf food!

We passed this pub regularly but never tried it until recently. We met the new owners who recently took over on our visit who are friendly and made you feel very welcome. With a new menu coming soon they were extremely accommodating by adapting their current menu to suit child portions. The food was great with a variety of options from a generous serving of Sunday roast to pub classic scampi. Their selection of "on tap" options were great with plenty to choose from. They have an onsite skittle alley which can be used upon request by calling ahead for availability, which the room is amazingly presented with which would be great for function bookings. Outdoor seating area is also available to the rear, enclosed from the main road. Furthermore the whole pub is also dog friendly with water bowls outside. I can safely say, even though we have closer options in our village, we are certainly making this our "local" going forward.

We popped in for a quick bite to eat on Saturday as we were doing some local shopping. As it was a sunny day, the few seats outside were taken, but we managed to get a table inside. Service was friendly and helpful and as soon as I discovered the quiche was homemade, I just had to try it. I chose the individual cheese and caramelised onion quiche. It was delicious!
