This is a great pub for a quick stop off or a lengthy chat. Really lovely, warm, traditional atmosphere and a good selection of ale - local brewers Big Bog were in evidence as well as some other good independent real ales. They do really delicious looking Sunday dinners - we didn't get to try one but the place was busy and everyone was tucking in happily! Recommended for people who like proper pubs. There's a great stuffed badger's head laughing down at you too for character.

El servicio fue excelente por la señora de la casa, que también asistía a los clientes del bar. Disfrutamos de un almuerzo tranquilo y sin presión para abandonar la mesa después. This is a really cosy traditional pub and a great place to drink or eat. The Sunday Roast is the best in Liverpool but the food during the week is also very good too. Visited last Friday with my partner on a whim. The place was quite busy but we were able to find a vacant table. We both ordered the chicken curry which was excellent. The presentation was superb and curry extremely tasty. We decided to both have half rice and half chips and the chips are a revelation. No frozen oven chips here but the real mccoys. The staff were also excellent and could not do enough to please us both. The final bill was also very pleasing as the food along with a couple of drinks were less than £30. This place is well worth a visit and I hope we will still be able to get a table on our next visit.

I have read a few reviews on here and based my decision to suggest here to people on them. The ones that included the term 'restaurant food, pub prices' were particularly helpful and particularly correct. The first thing I noticed though was the décor. It was very 'traditional' which, for me, is a bonus. Especially in the age of chain pub carry on e.g. air freshener in the Mayo etc. The staff were absolutely fantastic. Funny and helpful, nothing was too much for them to do. It was my first time here and we were wished Happy Christmas on the way out but I'll be popping in again before then.Next time though it won't be for a business related lunch, but much rather a skinful. Thanks

This is a great traditional pub serving excellent restaurant quality food at very reasonable prices. You will not find anywhere serving a better Sunday Roast no matter how hard you look. We went again yesterday and at £9.95 with either a free Starter or Dessert it is excellent value. You have a choice of either Beef, Pork, Lamb or Chicken and the portions are enormous. You are given 4 or 5 generous slices of your chosen meat along with 5 different vegetables and a giant Yorkshire Pudding and Stuffing. All cooked to perfection and quality ingredients. The staff here are brilliant and Dave and Louise who served us could not be friendlier or more helpful.People have latched on to how good the food is here and consequently there are always lots of diners so I advise, particularly for Sunday Dinner, that you reserve a table.

We have visited a great deal of restaurants and pubs in Merseyside sampling their Sunday Roast Dinners but without doubt this is the best you will find, and definitely excellent value for the price. You can opt for either a free Starter or Dessert to compliment your meal.I had the Pate and Chutney with Melba Toast and it was delicious. The Roast Dinner is either Beef, Pork or Lamb and our party chose all three meats. The Dinner is enormous and gives you about 4 or 5 very large slices of meat together with 5 different vegetables and stuffing, gravy and a massive Yorkshire Pudding. I am a big eater but could not finish it because there is so much and it is absolutely delicious. Everyone in our party of four had the same difficulty in finishing it all.For Dessert the Homemade Apple Crumble and Custard was wonderful. There is nothing to fault here as the pub is a traditional one with a lovely cosy ambience and Louise who serves the meals is very friendly, attentive and helpful without being "in your face".If you want a fabulous Sunday Roast then look no further than here because you won't find better anywhere BUT definitely make a booking because all the tables get reserved and you would have to be incredibly lucky to walk in off the street and get one.

A few days later we popped in to ask if we (7 of us again) could reserve 2 tables at 6:30 that evening, we showed the guy at the bar the tables we wanted, and he took the reservation. Arrived at 6:32 and the tables were occupied, the man at the bar said the guy in the morning misunderstood and thought we wanted the dark dingy cramped corner again. Three of us ate here yesterday afternoon after unsuccessfully scouring Woolton Village for a reasonably-priced meal. I ordered the chicken in white wine sauce (£7.50 I think) while my husband and son ordered the curry. All meals were delicious; my chicken consisted of 4 fillets of chicken on a bed of home-made mash with broccoli and salad on the side. All meals represented great value for money. One pint, one Southern Comfort/lime,soda and 2 medium wines plus the three meals came to £35-ish. This came as an unexpected surprise in Woolton Village, where prices can be high and simple meals have ££££ added on. This isn't a restaurant, though. It's a really good local pub with nooks and crannies, something that's almost extinct in this day and age. A delight, and we shall be returning - soon!

This used to be a very homely, old fashioned type of local pub with a touch of class. It's still a place to have a drink and a chat (rather than a pub restaurant) but, on our last visit after a fair while, we were disappointed. It does look in need of some renovation and has an outdated feel about it. Staff were helpful and friendly and customers (mostly blokes of a mature age I have to say) were happy to chat. What didn't help was a smell that I can only liken to a dirty mop having been used to clean the floor - sorry, but that was the first thing that hit us. Perhaps more of a locals' pub.

Lasagne was just about ok but with a strange sweet taste to it.The pie had to go back because the the steak/beef was almost impossible to cut, although apparently the gravy was nice. Replacement was ordered without fuss with my partner instead opting for the gourmet burger. The burger itself looked very thick but on tasting found to be over onion-y, filled with red pepper (unexpected) but worst of all very gristly. Apart from the pepper it was reminiscent of an old KwikSave own brand burger or one bought from a hot dog/burger trolley on Lime St.

I was originally from this end of the city and spent a fair amount of my youth misbehaving in the many pubs of lovely Woolton Village. Not once did I visit The White Horse though, probably because it was seen as being a bit of an old mans pub to whippersnappers like me. Well now that I'm a bit of an old man myself, even though I now live at the other end of the city, it was time to pay a visit. It was great. The only minor criticism, if it can even be classed as a criticism, is that I think it's possibly better suited to a winter visit when the old fashioned, traditional décor would seem quite cosy. On a warm, early summer's day when everyone else is sitting outside in the sunshine in the Elephant's beer garden over the road, it just felt a bit wrong to be sitting inside. The food is definitely better here though, very good in fact by pub standards and there were a couple of nice real ales on offer to wash it down. I can't recall the name of the one I had but it was very nice.I had the belly pork with mustard mash and broccoli. My wife had the lamb with chips which also came with broccoli. Both meals were delicious, reasonably priced and they were big portions too, so much so we were both glad we didn't have starters.Inevitably they had Beatles music on most of the time which is fine by me, not too loud either, just the right volume in fact.Definitely coming back, I might even risk it in summer again.

Have been going to this pub since it was newly taken over. The bar is absolutely find, service, beer, drinks are all excellent. The food is good honest British pub food BUT There is a problem, the waiting on staff, well one particular member of staff, she creates a terrible atmosphere, her manor is off hand, surly and slightly confrontational, this we have noticed doesn't happen when the manager or his wife is about, as soon they turn their back, "she's off", literally, she spends more time upstairs than seeing to the diners, we heard a lady on the next table say to her husband, that" she needs a personality transplant", that or retraining. We definitely will not be going back, we give up, we have tried now 4 or 5 times now, is a shame because it is a decent pub being spoiled.

The White Horse is an old favorite of ours; besides the great ambience, the food is excellent, all house-made, beautifully served with a good pint of mild or bitter if you wish.
