Cafe 23 in Liverpool

We wanted a nice brunch together after a visit to the vets nearby, but we had our dog with us. We were delighted to find this cafe that made it clear dogs were welcome inside. Husband had a full English and said it was particularly good. I had some tasty cheese on toast which was just what I fancied, and something which you can’t always get. Finn, our collie, got his own bowl of water once we’d sat down, and ordered his own special portion of chopped sausage and black pudding. He didn’t give a review. He was too busy inhaling it. The new owners haven’t been here long, but I wish them well and hope to be passing by again soon.

Under new management this family run cafe is well situated in the Penny Lane area of Liverpool. We popped in for a quick breakfast and it was absolutely one of the best breakfasts we have had for a very long time. Good value, nice atmosphere and friendly staff, which just makes all the difference. Perfect!

Located just off Penny Lane on Church Road is Cafe 23 a wonderful cafe we chanced upon as we were wandering around this part of town. A neat and tidy interior, lovely decor and furnishings, light and airy, a very nice cafe indeed. We were here on a Thursday afternoon, we ordered a coffee each ,coffee was served steaming hot, we just kicked back, chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our coffee's. From the first sip till the last sup you can tell they use quality ingredients in their coffee and take great pride in the coffee they serve ,it was just so good being in such a lovely cafe enjoying a quality brew. We really enjoyed our coffee's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting for a first time visit to Cafe 23 we had a great time. Cafe 23 is easy to locate along Church Road, most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area.

Best ample griddled breakfast ever . Choice of tomatoes and cooked eggs. Lovely homemade mexican veggie burgher (which is cooked while you wait,)All meals good for larger appetites.Pity about noisy stressed?, staff.

I visited this cafe this morning , and was pleasantly surprised , what a little gem ! I had the best breakfast I have had for a long time . A fabulous breakfast 2 doorsteps of freshly buttered toast and a pot of tea all served with a smile and only £6 . I will be back for more !!!!! Thankyou Cafe 23

Why haven't I been here before. Passed 1000s to times. Found on entering the place to be busy but still with plenty of space. Absolutely spotless plesant surrounding. Noticed the specials board. Opted for the mince pie dinner. Didn't expect to get such wonderful food from a cafe. Fantastic quality served by the lovely Liv. Such a nice young lady, a real credit. Without a doubt I will be returning. Thanks very much girls, very happy.

Went to this cafe on Sunday with my husband and children for breakfast. I had head lots of great things about it from friends and I was not disappointed. The food was all delicious lots of choices was hard to pick as so many lovely things . Staff so helpful and friendly made us feel very welcome great atmosphere can’t wait to visit again

Visited bank holiday weekend with my Husband and two boys aged 6 and 12. Lovely feel inside and staff very friendly. Boys all choose mixed breakfasts presented lovely and my youngest went with the homemade pancakes. I opted for the special (omelette) recommend by the owner Chelsea it was amazing. Also thank you for the boys sweets at the end Chelsea they loved it and nice touch. We will be back 5*****

Never fails in here! Food is always amazing and you can tell it’s fresh, the chips are amazing, made from scratch. No frozen in here, my friend who’s never been couldn’t decide as she was on a diet so asked the girl ( Chelsea ) if she could make something healthy for her, and she did! It was gorgeous. This is my go to place, I eat out a lot and honestly never disappointed when I come here, girls are lovely and great atmosphere. Well done girls! Love seeing local business with local girls doing well xxx

Coffee and panini were OK, but service was extremely slow. Unfortunately they don't have any Beatles decoration anymore.

We popped in for a sandwich and ended up having a bowl of scouse. I’d never had it before and I was pleased I decided to go for it. The staff were great, and nothing was too much trouble.

Had the smashed avocado on granary with bacon and was delicious. Freshly squeezed juice and everything done to perfection and Julie very friendly. A gem of a find. Will definitely be back

A cosy cafe situated not far from Penny Lane, very good value for money especially the coffee and sandwiches. Plenty of selection with an emphasis on home cooked healthy food

small , cosy, quite busy but excellent full english breakfast , freshly cooked and great value for money. but thats not all they do, you can even have a plate of scouse, or bangers and mash if you want. staff are friendly , service is excellent. I'd recommend it if you need good wholesome food and a quiet atmosphere after a heavy saturday night.

No puedo creer cómo cuesta abajo y destartaladas este café ha desaparecido en los últimos dos años. Los precios son abusivos y el personal actúa como si les debemos un favor. Que literalmente ser mejor ahorrar dinero e ir a Mcdonalds! ! !

Sloppy breakfast half of it cold, felt like there had been an attempt to reheat it as it just did not taste fresh whatsoever and to top it off worst coffee I have ever had in my life. Wouldn’t go back here.

nicest staff, atmosphere and food going! Will definitely be back again. We had poached eggs on toast which were lovely and the full English which looked amazing too. The music they have on is great too and the staff are lovely and give good service.

Went with my sister and daughter for late breakfast, my daughter got pancakes with bacon and syrup which she really enjoyed. My sister had the full English and I had the special they offered that day smashed avocado and bacon (they offered salmon with it too). will definitely be back again because we all really enjoyed the food. staff were great and the atmosphere was really homey, proper welcoming Scouse run business!

Had a lovely breakfast here, the works with bacon sausage also went all the way and got some pancakes which was disappointed with as they were not freshly made but other that that food was amazing

Went to cafe23 with friends last week it was lovely open kitchen so we could see are food freshly getting made I had breakfast was great 2 had smashed avocado with poached eggs and salmon said it was amazing and 1 friend had A omelette which was recommended by a member of staff a young lady Who come over to say hi and explained the specials to us And said the omelette of the day is popular which was cherry tomatoes spinach feta with flat tail meal and a side of hummus which I will be going back to try because it was lovely !!!

Después de peticiones para el agua y el té consumido el agua llegó. 45 minutos más tarde y tras los clientes que llegaron después que nosotros nos sirven, se estableció el servidor había pensado que nos habían servido la comida. Ella prometió que sería entregado a los 5 minutos y nos ofreció una bebida. Algún día después de una comida se cayó delante de mí y pronto después de mi esposa llegó. Después de algunas peticiones el servidor entregado cuchillos y tenedores. El pan era de goteo con margarina huevos escalfados eran duras y huevos revueltos eran como caucho seco y los granos estaban aguados. Cuando se ofrece para liquidar la factura fue más de lo que esperaba, nos ofrecieron disculpas, no hay reducción por nuestra experiencia y nos cobraron las bebidas ofrecidas por el tiempo de espera.

Just had breakfast at this little gem of a place. My brother in law and I go for breakfast once a week all around the city. We believe we have found the ultimate in quality and value anywhere in Liverpool!

Excellent freshly cooked food - the kitchen staff catering for all needs. This is the best breakfast I have eaten and the bonus is the food is deliciously griddled so the fat content is minimal.

He comido aquí a unos cinco o seis veces, y tenía un gran desayuno y una bonita queremso dedicar. Las mujeres que dirigen el lugar es muy amable y el servicio es bueno. Lo único que no recomiendo es el café - no se de donde conseguirlo, pero es bastante pobre y debe ser evitado, pero el té está bien y el lugar tiene un montón de clientes habituales, por lo que están haciendo algo bien.

Llamado para un almuerzo ligero, nos vimos por el fabuloso cuatro mirando hacia abajo desde la pared, ver foto. Queríamos sopa pero no te gustan las picante sopa parsnip así fue ofrecido con jamón que he aceptado el codillo. El jefe tenía el picante parsnip tuve el jamón, ambos deliciosos. Bonito y limpio rápido servicio de buen café. fabuloso.

Cafe empty when we arrived poor service, waited almost an hour for food to arrive, paid too much for terrible food. Stated get free refills tea & coffee but charged for first drinks while we were waiting to order. Very disappointed

Estado visitando aquí, ya que mi hijo menor nació, hace 12 años. Vaya a través de fazes de Domingo desayuno de nic espontáneos. Called in again for a Sunday breakfast but this time with friends. We read the papers, had a chat and had a mixture of the full English, veg, pancakes with blueberries, scrambled egg and drinks. All really good, reasonable price and no complaints. Service was friendly, as usual.

Gluten Free. The staff were Amazing and they know there food. which was lovely to see i could not fault any think here! i enjoyed my relaxing time here chilling. the foods was very taste. the staff places the order and get on with there job. they dont hassle you or harass you which i love. Visited this little delightful cafe for the umpteenth time! And again, never disappointed! I just love it here the atmosphere, the girls are so chatty and eager to please, the food is tasty and from scratch! I got the halloumi lounza, delicious! My dad got the days special which was homemade lasagne! He said it was best he's ever had! ( not telling my mum ) and my 2 brothers and one of their wives got an all day breakfast, they didn't have a bad thing to say about it, especially as theirs came with unlimited top ups of tea and coffee! Bonus! Lovely little place to eat!

The best thing about the cafe is how cheap it is and the amount of choice on the menu. I got a vegetarian cooked breakfast (£5) with tea and toast (free) and it was fab. My girlfriend ordered pancakes with maple syrup (£3) a side of bacon and baked beans. These sides were considerably expensive in relation to the rest of the very reasonably priced menu. The worst part is the service- so grumpy! The cafe has Beatles memorabilia as they have a strong history with the cafe which was cool. But overall, it's pretty basic. Go to the Tavern round the corner- much nicer.

Visited in lunch break, only had an hour so went up to counter to order, rather than sit and wait for service ( as have been before and not the fastest to come over , even when they have seen you, they don't acknowledge you, or say 'i'll be there shortly' )It was 12.10pm, I said i'm on my lunch, have to be back in work at 1pm so thought i;d best order now, and can i pay you now so I don't have to wait to pay later, the lady said ok and don't worry it won't be long. Food came at 12.45pm, I asked the lady if i could have a container to box it up as i would have to go to work as had to be in at 1pm, she looked at me strangely , mumbled a 'yes'-i think, disappeared.i was not short or rude in any way, she didn't come back , i went up to counter and she was in the back, cooking.I grabbed a few paper doilies off the counter to wrap it up and another woman came out and said 'you don't need those, you get one with your kniofe n fork with the food', i said 'no its to wrap my food, i asked the other lady for a box as need to take food out as need to be in work at 1pm ( now 12.55pm) she said 'ok. i presumed she would then bring box, no, so i went up again and asked again for a 3rd time,she said ill bring you one in a minute, then she brought one out after taking coffees over to a table, then i left at 1pm ! in work 10 mins late. Last summer i went there with a friend, only me and my friend in there, wasn't very warm and they had back and front doors open.It was cold as drafty blowing through, my friend went and closed front door, a lady marched out from kitchen and to the front door and opened it,on way past back to kitchen my friend said excuse me can i close the door as its cold here with the draft blowng through and the lady said something along the lines of well its hot in the kitchen and why dont you kove tables ?only go there still as not much choice for cafes with that type of food in the area i know of. shame as nice food, just service skills lacking.

Went here with husband for breakfast, he had a cooked breakfast and I had the pancakes, it was not the best I've eaten but I thaught it was reasonable and the 3 little pots that come with it is a lovely added touch

This is a very average Italian restaurant serving basic pizza, pasta and garlic bread etc. We were utilising a groupon voucher and sensed from the staff they couldn't be bothered in attending to us. Menu choices were limited and the staff were very slow in clearing our table, so much so that eventually, tired of waiting for our plates to be cleared after the main course, we left before we had time to avail the dessert and coffee included in our purchases voucher. No attempt was made by the staff to appease us either, and they were aware that we hadn't availed our full entitlements. We wouldn't recommend and we won't be back, there are so many nicer Italian restaurants in Liverpool with more attentive staff and a genuine Italian vibe and super hospitality. I guess it might be a case of 'you get what you pay for' and I this instance the groupon purchase was not worth the money at all.

we arrived here as 2 cpuples and a 1 year old baby. We were quickly seated but then ordered our breakfasts and butties.20 mins later our first pot of tea arrives. Followed closely 10 minutes later by the 2 lattes. Then shortly 2 mins after by our already cold toast. Another 20 mins passes and our toast is now growing mould from now being put of date. Our breakfasts arrive with my girlfriends cranberry and turkey pannini. All is well in the world im being fed. Oh wait.... he cranberry and turkey pannini has no cranberry sauce. Oh god so we asked the waitress and she says oh sorry we dont have any cranberry sauce, we should of told you. Yeah damn right.you should of told you as my girlfriend now looks like the cryptkeeper from tales of the crypt from eating her pannini with no sauce and no coffee as we couldnt be bothered waiting another 20 mins for more coffee. So we get the bill i ask can we not pay for pannini due to the fore said problems. The owner then decides to have a go at us. We then said to her to stop shouting and none of our breakfasts were correct they had just been thrown together. She then had a massive face on. She is absolutely disgusting we were very polite and got that. After she served us food without the ingreients that were advertised and comppained at us about it, after it was her who cooked it and served it without sauce. Its one of the worst greasy spoon cafes ive ever been to.

Went here today, it was really bad. Waited 45 min for our food and when it came the brekfasts were wrong and my friends 'cranberry' sandwich had no cranberry on! When we asked they said they had none left but served it bare anyway! When we spoke to the lady cooking she had a bad attitude and didn't even apologise for her mistakes just raised her voice to us instead and gave us dirty looks as if it was our fault! Don't go here it's so over priced anyway for what you get! Disappointing.

Went for lunch with the BOSS and Nan, they both had soup, chicken and barley broth. They are big bowls and bread they said they were very tasty. I had Scouse with bread and beetroot , not as good as last time I had it but it was still tasty. Service was very slow, but the staff are always friendly. Good value with plenty of choices.

Awkward service, waited half an hour for food to arrive, paid too much for terrible food. They gave another customer free refill for waiting but not for us. Just don't bother going, Neon Jamon is around the corner, much better food, service and cheaper.

I have been here to cafe 23 a number of times and I have never been disappointed! My friend was visiting and I told him about the place and he said he had seen it on trip advisor and it had mixed reviews most recently not the best! I was shocked so felt impelled to join and write my own and I have to say I am shocked at some of these so called reviews, the girls here are lovely, so helpful and can't do enough for you, such a friendly atmosphere, yes it's gets extremely busy here especially on a weekend but as busy as the staff are they still deliver a service with a smile! Some of these bad reviews HAVE to be rival eateries! And as for the review about decaf coffee being from a jar, you can't get decaf from a bean???? Duh!!!!!! I've waited longer in the tavern for food with my boyfriend and we didn't rate it! Cafe 23 = Lovely local girls delivering good tasty decent food!!! As it says outside, they don't do fast food they do good food as fast as they can!

Visited this place with friends was told to try the homemade chicken barley soup was not disappointed very very good and a good size staff where very friendly young girls can't wait to go back

visited with friends after a sightseeing trip - the flags and the "@Penny Lane" attracted us. It's not even in Penny Lane!!!! We were gobsmacked at the offensive attitude of the waiting on staff and their bad manners -we are not snobs but this place is so common! The waitress slammed the plate of food down in front of us - the tea pots leaked all over the table when we tried to pour them. When we were leaving we asked directions to Penny Lane and were told - out to the left!! disgusting customer service - a bad experience, advise anyone with a hint of manners - don't go there!!

We had brunch here when visiting Penny Lane. What a meal, the guys in our party had a big breakfast - the plate was full of food - beans, eggs, sausages, black pudding, haggis, bacon, tomato, toast, it was huge and tasty. We had toasted sandwiches and they were big and divine as well. Good spot and nice people. Definitely do breakfast at this place on your Beatle trek.

The breakfast took an age to arrive, coffee had been drank ages earlier and the vegetarian breakfast was badly thought out and very bland, will not be returning!

We called in for breakfast , I had full English the BOSS just had a cappuccino . The brekker was big and tasty plenty of toast, tea was good. Staff friendly and quick. Very good value with plenty of choice on the menu.

Was told this place was a goldmine quite the opposite,asked for a decaf Americano and the girl produces some cheap jar of instant coffee so I left quickly also too many signs saying what you can and can't do and the place empty... Says it all really.

Went today for breakfast it was by far the best I have had in that area & I just cant believe some of the comments below were they done by a rival? Sure I had tinned tomato's but we were asked if we wanted fresh or tinned so I just don't get why somebody slates them for serving tinned when you get to choose waitress was friendly I just don't see how this place has got some bad reviews Will certainly be going back to try something else in the week

Just been this morning for breakfast with my wife, as we are on a bit of a quest to sample breakfast in every eating house in the area. So far this is the worst breakfast we have had. sausages burnt, bacon burnt, what i think was a hash brown was turn upside down to hide the fact, that this was also burnt. sliced potatoes still hard and not cooked enough. We did not eat all of the breakfast as it just tasted of carbon deposits. Paid the bill and left. For the cost of this breakfast you would be better spending you money around the corner in the tavern, a far better experience. You could also try pablos who's breakfast are outstanding but a little pricey, but hey you get what you pay for. This is a fair and honest review of our experience of this cafe. I even told the staff on leaving, breakfast was not good. Silence was the only answer i received. Rick Trainer.

We went for breakfast, the cafe was not busy at all but our breakfast was burnt and looked like it was thrown onto the plate. The coffee was small and cold, not somewhere I would go again!!

Good wholesome well cooked food. Breakfasts are particularly good. Home made soup (just like mother used to make) delicious to eat in or take away.

The Scouse that is, my Dad always said if the spoon did not stand up in it the Scouse was not up to his standard , well the spoon did stand up. It was hot , tasty , thick and delish. The BOSS had cottage pie also delish. We followed up with lemon drizzle and hot chocolate pud , delish. Staff really friendly and very quick. Good value with reasonable prices. We will be back.

Breakfast was OK but it was thrown on in a heap with Toast not quite done. The café wasn't that busy, so could have been served with more care.

This is the first review that i have felt compelled to write. Upon walking in we felt like we had walked into somebody's living room because of the bad looks we got from the staff. Eventually the waitress came over to bark at us and tell us that there were no pancakes and hasn't been all week!!!! We ordered 2 full breakfasts and settled down to read our paper. I think we could have read "War and Peace" let alone the "Daily Mail" before the breakfasts arrived. After 40 minutes there was still no sign of the food and i went to tell them that we didn't want them anymore and i would pay for the coffee that we had already drunk. This place will soon shut if they do not sort the staff out. Can't comment on the food because they are probably still cooking it!!!!

We went to Liverpool for a 4 days - father son trip, to go for sightseeing and visit all the places the Beatles played music or stayed. Over the last 3 days we went to any type of cafe to get breakfast and it was always super oily. But here in Cafe 23/Penny Lane Cafe it was the first time that we didn't feel like getting a heart attack due to the tons of fat. The chef added some potatoes to the breakfast and nothing tastes fried.A big plus also for the location! Beatles fans can walk down the penny lane after having a delicious breakfast here.Thanks a lot guys! Recommend you!J

20 mins before order taken. Another 30 mins before below average warm breakfast was delivered to wrong table. Been a few times but never again. It felt like there was a hidden camera show was being filmed at our expense.To see how long 2 people would wait for an over priced poorly serviced 'breakfast'. It would have been quicker to go for a walk round the park and then visit the ads then cook it ourselves. Miserable.

I have looked at last two reviews which are very unusual. As a regular i can only state that the foodis excellent, every time, and the staff are helpful and courteous. I would highly recommendthe breakfast and the regular full house does not lie.

Go to cafe 23 every morning on my way to work lovely food and staff are very friendly & helpful. Cant believe there are any negative reviews because everyone loves it.

Visit here for my breakfast every morning and occasional dinners, and they have never failed to deliver.Staff are very nice and helpful and the food is great, couldn't fault it.Don't understand how anyone could give a bad review!!

Visiting friends who took us here today for lunch. Very clean, smart and friendly place. We all enjoyed our various choices and washed them down with delicious latte's . The staff are very attentive and the place was spotless. We will be going here again soon.

I can only agree with the other negative reviews that there seems to be a bad atmosphere in the cafe and the staff seem put out if you ask for anything. It looks nice enough from the outside and I was hoping for a decent, reasonably priced breakfast. The 1st negative was that there was barely enough room left between tables so I was literally back to back with another customer. The staff could see I was sat on an angle but no effort was made to make things more comfortable. We ordered 2 full English breakfasts which including cold beans, 3 very small SLICES of mushroom and an undercooked, soggy sausage. Oh, and the like warm tinned tomatoes! I received 2 pieces of toast whilst my friend received 4 (same price)...maybe this was because there was already half a slice left on our table from the previous customers. The girl came to tell us the cup of tea is going to be ages as the kettle is broke, no apology. It never arrived so she half filled a cup with fresh orange to take out...cheers! They were not exactly ran off theor feet so there is just no excuse for cold food, it had clearly been sat in the plate for minutes before they brought it over. I won't be going back in a hurry/ever and I will warn others not to go. Plenty of nice breakfasts in the area for a similar price £6 with a guarantee of hot food and good portions.

Went today the 2 eggs on toast was horrible.. Toast was nice but eggs had all black on them from the grill ...this made them very saltyAgree with other poster staff are quite sharpBill for 1 pot of tea and egg on toast £4.99Not great value and would not go againSorry

Ordered some homemade chicken & barley soup which was great and arrived with some nice crusty bread. I then made the mistake of ordering the 'special' scouse pie. It was horrible, just tasted like a soggy meat-and-potato pie from an ailing chippie. My missus also ordered the steak and eggs, her steak was so tough she couldn't finish it. I spoke to one of the waitresses about the pie and immediately regretted it. Apparently, it was my fault for not knowing what scouse is (which I do, me nan used to make the best scouse ever). My idea of scouse is nice chunky pieces of meat and veg, with a stew-like gravy. What I received was more like chappie dog food. Once I had made my complaint the staff rallied round me and basically told me off! When I told them I won't be back the response was 'well we don't want you back'. This is the second time I've had a similar argument with the staff in there and I honestly don't know why we gave them another chance. My advice - avoid.

Took some friends for a latish cooked brekkie to set them up for their journey home after a quick visit to Liverpool. An extensive menu, offering something for everyone, from pancakes to full English, as well as sandwiches, soups and more substantial full meals. Reasonable prices and friendly staff. Felt welcome and were well fed! Will deffo go back. So, don't find yourself stuck in the massive waiting queues at the Tavern, pop round the corner and enjoy a Café 23 breakfast!

Used to eat here all the time when lived nearer. Visited just before a Christmas for a breakfast which I used to love. Food still nice, but not the same quality. Service much slower, but staff very friendly. Would still return as food us good for the price you pay.

Awful Place... only happened to go in as the pub next door's kitchen was closed. Ordered Two Breakfasts with one tea and a coffee... waited a good 5/10 for the "fresh" filter coffee... IT was not fresh! it was awful, and smelled like the filter has been used several times.Breakfasts took another 20 minutes to arrive, hardly rocket science to produce to breakfast. The Fried Eggs, were barely cooked, the TINNED tomatoes were cheap, and tasteless, the sausage was undercooked, the bacon too salty, and the beans and black pudding had dried up. No amount of ketchup could save this (which, was a watered down version in a Heinz Bottle) Left majority of food, even though we were starving, only to be told "Didn't think you could manage it all love" by the sour faced waitress.... Took a bit of effort to hold my tongue and just pay up and leave. Was so tempted to say, I left it because it was the worst food I've ever had. Will NEVER set foot in here again. I recommend you give it a swerve too, and pop to Schmooze next door, or the Richmond Tavern on the other side.

Called in for breakfast on a Sunday, the food was ok and came out pretty quickly but the service was offhand bordering on unfriendly. It wasn't particularly busy, but I felt a bit like I was an inconvenience rather than a valued customer.Maybe the staff got out of bed the wrong side that day but there are lots of other good places for breakfast in Liverpool so wont be rushing back to Cafe 23.

Been to cafe 23 for 6 years, lovely staff, friendly and polite. Food is always fresh and tasty. The breakfast is the best, love this cafe, would recommend to anyone.

Nice to come for a quick bit of breakfast or lunch on a budget. Quite basic but lots of choice, almost too much? (maybe they should concentrate on doing certain dishes really well rather than providing such variety). But the food is okay for the price as the portions are quite big. The cafe is a little cramped inside as you have to queue to pay at the till which can be a pain but the staff are always friendly and accommodating. Good for a quick fix but wouldn't recommend for a special occasion or romantic outing.

Went for a breakfast with my partner at the weekend. The full breakfast was very tasty and good however this was spoiled by the stressful atmosphere. There were 5 women working in the kitchen and you can hear every word, crash of plates, shouted order out front. The waitresses looked really hurried and were rushing to and fro. I just want to sit and relax at breakfast time but felt I couldn't because of the noise. The staff dont look like they enjoy working there. It's a pity because like I said the food was good. They all just need to chill out.

I had never been to Cafe 23 before, but I had heard that they served a great breakfast! So, recently whilst on Allerton Road I decided to give it a try. To say the least, I was very impressed!! I decided on soup for a light lunch, and everything about it was lovely! The portion size, taste and service were all up to scratch, I would definitely return and get this again and again! But their menu choice was never ending and so I will be returning to try all of their other dishes! I suggest that this is a must-visit place when in Liverpool - especially with their great Beatle's theme! Overall, great food, great service and great experience!

Lovely morning in Liverpool wandering around Mathew Street and getting hungry. Saw a sign at the Cafe 23 that advertized an "English Breakfast". Being “Yanks”, we were extremely grateful that the Club 23 sign told us what that was and how much it cost. Super value and fantastic food! Even the coffee was good. So much food, we couldn't finish our meals but we did buy an additional 2 coffees to take on the road! The Beatles decor is tasteful and the cafe is cozy. Don't miss this one!

Three times now I've had breakfast here and everytime it has been great! The cafe is lovely inside with all its posters and pictures of the Beatles and they even have a little outdoor area with seating. The service could be a little better but the staff seem nice enough. Will be returning soon.

I always go to cafe 23 for their breakfasts, which I think are great an good vale for money, but the other day I had one of the home made lamb burgers, which was fantastic!!! Every time I have visited cafe 23 it has never failed to serve great quality food for cheap prices! Also, the atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff are very friendly! Would recommend this cafe to anyone!!

I had been visiting a relative, who has recently moved to Liverpool. After a days shopping in Allerton road, we were looking for a place to eat and asked a passing person for a good cafe and was told cafe 23 is the place to eat. The inside is cosy and the beatles theme was a good touch. We sat on the sofas and was served by a very friendly waitress named Chelsea and had a lovely glass of wine while looking over the excellent menu. We decided on a all day breakfast and a beef platter. The food came quick and was delicious, the beef platter was bordering on divine and there was plenty of it. We could not believe the value for money. When i am next in liverpool i will be visiting again and have already spread the word to friends who go to liverpool a lot....

Just spent a week in Liverpool and i asked some locals at my meeting to suggest a cosy cafe/restaurant where i could enjoy some good home cooked food. They suggested cafe 23 as they use it for their catering at the banks meetings.I am glad they pointed me in the right direction, the place has a warm cosy atmosphere from the moment you walk through the door. The decoration is to a high finish and well designed and is decorated here and there with images and memorabilla of the Beatles even down to the penny lane street sign on the wall.The staff are welcoming from the outset and have the lovely warm liverpool way of greeting you which the city is famous for. The service is Table Service so no waiting around at the counter, just pick up one of the many complimentary newspapers of the day and relax while your order is taken and cooked fresh with the kitchen being open plan so you can see how fresh the ingredients are and how spotlessly clean the kitchen is to match the food preparation.I opted for one of their famous platters choosing the beef one and i strongly recommend that you try one of these. Sizzling strips of beef accompanied by various sides and hot fresh baked bread was to die for. The atmosphere of Cafe 23 is a welcome peaceful resting place away from the hustle and bustle of the shops but if you want al fresco dining they have an italian feel garden at the back of the cafe which i would have loved to sit in but it was raining on that day.All in all, a little Gem in Liverpool and i will be revisiting on my next trip to Liverpool in July hoping that its sunny day so i can lunch in the garden.

I have been to cafe 23 a few times over the year always very happy with food and prices.Try the breakfast better then around the corner and cheaper,Last visit shared a BLT and chips plenty for 2 for lunch,The only problem with last visit as they where so busy food took longer so if you are on a time scale and they are busy let them know I am am sure they will accommodate .Staff are very friendly and helpful. They have outside seating also.
