The Elephant Pub and Bakehouse in Liverpool

The menu had a wide variety of choices. I asked Lisa who was serving us for a recommendation, she suggested the garlic chicken which was amazing.

I visited The Elephant today for lunch / catch up , with my two friends. Very quickly our order was taken by Lisa and we all enjoyed our choices consisting of toasties / salad. Two Irish coffees were then ordered and sadly, were particularly cool ...not very enjoyable at all. We informed Lisa of our concerns who immediately had the coffees replaced...... much better !. On overhearing our conversation, another diner was saying she,d had a similar issue last week .... so Mr Chef ... please don,t let your standards slip at The Elephant . Finally a huge thank you to Lisa. A true asset , who The Elephant should be proud to have in their team .

Went in on a Thursday night and joined in on the pub quiz, fantastic atmosphere and night made great by the host of the quiz, very funny and will be back.

Went here on 23rd January for a wake… The Elephant could not have done better, excellent customer service service, food was amazing and plenty of of it, staff attentive and caring and very understanding. Well done to all concerned and to Kieran who organised everything at short notice 🙏

Busy, but we were well looked after by a great young female member of staff. The meal was excellent - everything was perfectly cooked. Highly recommended.

Excellent Belly Pork Roast. ( Unfortunately the broccoli was raw.) Dessert Cherry Pavlova best ever. Not happy with the Dog allowed in the upstairs restaurant, member of our party terrified of dogs only they arrived as we were leaving we would of complained. Should be addressed to downstairs only.

1 I was in there tonight (14.12.2024) and observed a large party of Adults with young Children at two bunches of tables (adults on one set and the children left to their own devices ( some as young as 8-9 years old) on a set of tables behind the adults. We entered at9. 30pm. What worried me was that children were still sitting on their own at 10.55 pm, when clearly the younger ones should have been in bed. I was concerned for their welfare, and when at 11.10 pm they were still sitting there (ignored by the so called parents still) I Approached a Assistant Manageress to raise my concerns for their welfare, she answered : " Well they came in for a meal and they had ordered food so they can stay as long as they want." W. T. F.! So as long as you have ordered a meal you can do what you like? Where is the sense of duty of care (by the way the so called adults in the group didn't move until 11.20 pm when they finally decided to move. None of them was eating or drinking after 10.15pm!They where too self absorbed in their own conversations!) by the Elephant Management.? When I pointed out to the," Assistant Manageress" , that if I came in next week say, and ordered a meal and then Assaulted a customer (or staff) then that's perfectly fine, cos I had "ordered food "? This place has become a sick joke. You need to employ proper mature managerial staff (I. E. Some one over the age of 22, (unlike the present staff working there!) with life skills and experience who puts a sense of duty of care over cheap profit.

Been there with family, took 4 mains (Scouse, beef Wellington, fish and chips and 1 pizza) and all of the mains were over our expectations - just right amount and excellent flavour. Will come back definitely 😁

Mains were ok, however pudding was lacking. We had the sorbet, 2 scoops, one raspberry and one lemon. It tasted like a raspberry and a lemon had merely breathed upon the sorbet, it was so artificial, there was no real fruit in there at all.

Very busy service was good, did manage to get a seat, nice atmosphere.

Rude waitress, but then later she cheered up, and was polite. My lasagne was CREMATED, Garlic bread was dry and plain with zero garlic butter on, requested a better one, the next one came dripping with tons of butter and zero garlic??? Strange? The once beautiful toilets looked old and dated, with one of the doors having no Handle, just a hole! Not like the Elephant pub I used to love. Unwelcoming, like they are doing you a favour by allowing you in!! Not a great experience, I never post bad reviews but felt, in this case, I wouldn't have been listened to if I would have tried to speak to someone.

Nice food in this cute elephant-themed pub. They have a cute terrace that must be lovely in summer, and the indoor area is comfortable and large. The food is good and very filling, and the desserts are excessive (the way we like them!). Service is helpful although sometimes a bit sparse. We have been there a couple of times and will go back! I somehow only have pictures of dessert, but will try to share more next time

All Staff were very welcoming, organised, professional and efficient. Ordering at the table, food and drinks served speedily. Food excellent standard and quality, served hot. Staff gave dogs attention too. Atmosphere smart and casual, and great atmosphere. Fellow customers expect dogs to be on the premises so no issues encountered. Will be going back there. Thank you for a great experience. Returned with dog Friday for lunch- atmosphere very pleasant, staff attentive and food/drink excellent. Full marks again. Thank you.

Breakfast had a good variety of items and cooked just like we asked but the only downside was the plates weren't hot and as I eat slowly it was cold by the time I'd finished It is very good value for money and worth a visit especially if your not a very slow eater unlike me😕

Visited for a family meal to celebrate a birthday. We have visited before but downstairs where it gets busier / noisier as the night goes on. This time though we asked for upstairs which has a much quieter atmosphere (we were in a booth). Staff were friendly but seemed short staffed as they vanished for periods of time when we wanted to order drinks, food all round was very good - I had the lamb kofta kebab. Would go again, and book upstairs, to try other things on the menu but not if I was in a rush…

The restaurant looks good, the food is delicious, the service is good, there is convenient parking.

A modern twist on a large traditional Victorian Inn. Well located next to the main bus stops for Liverpool City Centre. More gastro than boozer. It was very busy over the bank holiday weekend.

Unbelievable roast dinner!! Absolutely delicious - the best I've ever had out. So well-cooked and well-seasoned, generous portion, the beef and the chicken went down very well! Lovely selection of veg too. Would definitely recommend!

A lovely pub, always a favourite with all the family. Lovely food, big portions, always excellent service. Children are always treated well - they noticed it was our son's birthday when we arrived and offered sweets to all the children as we left which was a lovely gesture.

I had the beef roast after being a little disappointed with not being asked how I like my beef I was the outraged with the meal. It's felt like mash puree with beef very wet ( old person food ) to then receive too very over cooked roast potatoes and this is the one that really got me...one slither of carrot and one head of broccoli.... Like wow value for money rubbish and the quality to be desired.

I was very disappointed whilst staff were lovely the food was not good, it wasn't hot and the meat was disappointing.

Nice lunch but think the menu could do with a bit more variation at lunchtime. I meet friends there once a month and it's getting hard to find something lighter at lunchtime.

We were fortunate enough on our visit to get a table without booking. I'd always recommend booking if possible, as this is a busy venue. The staff were superb, I couldn't thank them enough! The food, as always was lovely.

Didn*t eat so cannot comment on the tucker but there were plenty of people ordering food. Had a lovely pint of Wainwright's but lots of other beers available. Thoroughly enjoyable 😊

Was really excited to see a French Dip sandwich on the menu. I was quickly disappointed when the steak was not thinly sliced as you would expect. It was chunks of over cooked steak. Also, the au jous was actually the gravy they put on everything else, like a Yorkshire pudding gravy. The sandwich also had lettuce for some reason. Have a real French Dip or just call it a steak sandwich. Can't trust the menu here to go back. Service was great!

Party booking on arrival tables not as we asked for but staff decision to change correct. Everyone was delighted with the catering and service particularly Abbie. A very good 80th birthday celebration.

Visited here with my family and the Staff were awful. My elderly mum and dad found a table and sat down, most tables were empty but nearly all had reserved on, we found one that had no reserved sign and sat down then some staff members came over and said it was reserved, we explained all the tables had reserved signs on but this one did not, the staff were pleasant and said we could have the table for 25 minutes, which we agreed. Then some snotty woman came over and shouted the table was reserved we have to move, I politely said we will move if you find us somewhere to sit, to which she said there are none available and we would have to stand at the bar. I explained we were told we could have the table for 25 minutes she then said no they were wrong we have to move now!!!! Shocking service from what claims to be a friendly and community bar!!!!

Only 2 cask beers and the Adnams was vinegar. When the only drinkable beer is Doom Bar, it doesn't look like a pub I am returning to.

We went for breakfast before The Grand National. The private room upstairs is just lush. A mixture of comfy booths and tables. The food was stunning. They looked after all our allergy needs. Our server was great as well. She couldn’t do enough for us. We’ll all be back again.

Overall a very pleasant experience, good food (I had the margherita pizza, my boyfriend had the double cheeseburger), and nice atmosphere. The bathrooms were also pretty clean and well kept, which is always a big plus in my books!

Looks great, but the pork belly was as tough as an old boot, struggled the get the knife through it. The potatoes had the texture of being left on the side for hours and the Yorkshire pudding was dry and fell apart when cutting. Might have just been an off day.

This is the second visit for our family of 8 (and two well behaved pooches) in 2 weeks. Both times we were looked after by Catherine, who is an absolute delight. Welcoming, friendly and efficient, she has made both visits a joy. The food was really tasty and all needs catered for. Me and my Sister have coeliac disease - there were plenty of gluten free options to choose from and we both felt confident that our health needs were taken seriously. My cousin is vegan and likewise was pleased to see a range of dishes available. We will definitely be back and this is, in no small part, down to the great service Catherine provides - thank you!

Well recommend. Food and service was stunning. Chicken burger was enormous and really tasty. Steak sandwich with the gravy dip was stunning and perfectly cooked. Pub was very busy with people stood next to the table while we were eating but that can only be expected on a Saturday night. Definitely will be returning

Great venue for a family get together . 30 of us upstairs, lovely decor,buffet high quality with a twist,catered for all tastes and looked amazing. Staff courteous and efficient. Couldn’t have gone better. Congratulations to staff.

Firstly, we had a problem from before we got there, I called ahead earlier that day and asked if they had room for a croup of 4 people at 7pm and they agreed and booked the table! We arrive at 7pm and waited and no one appeared at the hostess stand. 20 minutes later and someone finally approaches and we give our reservation name, the lady who came seamed to be angry, she was so snotty it was unbelievable, she told us we were late, we did address the fact we waited 20 minutes for someone to show up! She replied with ‘Kay Whatever!” The place did not look clean at all, walking through to our table we could see dishes left on the tables. The floors felt greasy and by our table it was sticky. The table felt slimy so we asked for another table and told them that it didn’t felt clean! She took us to another table and it was better, at this point we wanted to just leave but we were hungry, and we had just got our table! I wish we did leave!! I ordered the Chicken Jalfrezi for £17. We waited a further 50 minutes after ordering! In that time we had our first round of drinks, which we ordered pornstar martinis and they were the worst I had ever had! It looked like dirty dish water, they was no Prosecco and the passion fruit was grim it was off! The chicken was so dry and had had no flavour, it tasted like cardboard, the plate and forks looked dirty! One of my friends had ordered a gluten free burger and the bun to that was still frozen but burnt on the bottom end! How do you even do that? The language of the staff is vile, all you could hear the staff was dropping the F bombs and talking about there fellow colleagues so disrespectfully, how this place is open is beyond me! The entire place felt toxic! This entire experience was awful! I would never recommend me and my party felt robbed afterwards. We wanted lovely meal out together to have a lovely catch up and the entire experience was horrific

Lovely pub restaurant serving food, very cosy ,and nice atmosphere and surroundings. The staff were very pleasant and attentive, I had scouse pie which was very tasty. I would definitely visit this establishment again in the future.

Only popped in for lunch but we were overwhelmed by the standard of the food,we only got a starter each and shared but they we're superb,we will definitely be going here again.

Enjoyable meal, and ambience, but ruined by the bill being presented to us, after less than hr and a half, without us asking for it! A bit rude!

Love this place and it's my new local!

My wife and I visited yesterday in the early evening. We shared the onion bhaji to start and my wife had the steak sandwich while I had the chicken supreme. All the meals were absolutely superb and the level of cooking and presentation was on the highest quality. The amount of steak on the sandwich was amazing and the quality of the meat was fantastic. My chicken supreme was unbelievable and was like something you would receive in a top restaurant. The service from the staff was highly professional. All the staff were attentive without being intrusive and very friendly to us both. They are a credit to the company and make you want to return as soon as possible - this also applies to the food. I highly recommend this establishment and I am sure you will thoroughly enjoy your visit if you decide to book. Many thanks all at the Elephant.

Held a family birthday party in the upstairs function room. Went for the street food buffet option for 40 people which was expensive but absolutely amazing! The function room is so beautiful and the staff were brilliant. We used the sound system to play our Spotify playlist. A perfect birthday celebration with family and friends, and wonderful memories made.

Had a private party upstairs. The buffet was INCREDIBLE and the space beautifully decorated. Nothing was too much trouble for the lovely lady who looked after us. We had our own playlist from Spotify playing . All in all a perfect night for my nieces 18th

Great pub, warm and welcoming. Good food, good selection of drinks. A little pricey for the area however it's definitely worth it. The security are really nice and an issue was dealt with professionally which is good to see.

Felt the need to write this. Have just left Elephant and also had the Buttermilk Chicken Burger. It was basically deep fried batter. Very disappointing considering the price. Again I feel the kitchen must have been fully aware of what they sent out. Waitress asked if all ok as I left a plate of batter. Shame she wasn’t interested. Won’t return very poor food

It was a Tuesday night and they have a deal on pizzas and burgers. It’s 2 for 1. We were disappointed as there were no pizzas available. I chose the buttered chicken burger which was a huge mistake. It was basically deep fried burnt batter with a tiny amount of thigh meat. I should have sent it back but don’t like to make a fuss .It has put me off returning for food here.The kitchen should not have sent such a meal out, they must have known it was not up to standard.

Overall 5* pub. Food is good and service excellent. Second visit and will go again. Has a lovely feel to the place with the upstairs being a more formal restaurant whereas downstairs is a busy bar feel.

Meal for my dad's birthday.on arrival we were informed that the pizza oven wasn't working so that immediately narrowed the choice. I wasn't overly impressed with the menu so opted for fish and chips which was massive. Mine was nice although another of our party had fish and the batter was very wet. I thought the price was higher than a lot of pubs and no better than others. Desert was delicious, although 7 quid for sticky toffee pudding was a bit steep it was lovely. So to summarise it was just OK, expensive and I'm afraid won't be visiting again.

Drinks way over priced only had one each and left went over the Road in there was £21 for two drinks compared to £9 paid else where no wonder was empty

Wow! It’s been awhile since we visited the Elephant. I ordered the Pork Belly roast and vegan husband had the onion bhaji and jackfruit burger. All food came promptly, hot and so delicious. I couldn’t eat it all and took some back home to eat later. Everything tasted so good. A real treat. Service was lovely too. The new space upstairs is very cosy. We’ll be back with more family members.

Nice atmosphere and setting, but the Sunday Roast (£16 for veggie) was massively underwhelming. The veggie parcel was really bland and the roast potatoes weren't fresh. Wouldn't go again.

Sweet holy Mary this place is expensive. The only thing that stopped it getting 1 was the outstanding service, we were there for a surprise party(not our choice) as the night went on they put their prices up for same drinks. This place are 25% dearer per drink thank other Woolton venues. Staff are friendly but this pub is shockingly overpriced. Please avoid. Not one of the party present will ever revisit. Shame 'cos if they reduced their prices they would, due to staff and their passion, be the pub in Liverpool. Sadly their prices are hitting the death knoll for this venue, their suicide note!

Had a lovely time, the food was amazing, but most importantly the staff are amazing, especially Olivia, she was polite, well mannerd and so helpfull!!

Boxing Day family lunch, the food was pretty grim, the redeeming feature was the service which was very good. Much of the food seemed deep fried, and I reckon my rice was cooked many hours if not days previously.

The food was very dry, with the consistency of the potatoes similar to those that have been left out on the side overnight. The vegetarian gravy was also somehow dry and there was significantly less gravy compared to the meat dishes and barely covered the meal. The only saving grace of the roast were the glazed carrots although they were few in number. When I raised my complaints at the end of the meal, I was told that as I had not raised my complaints at the start of the meal when the server had been over to check (which was about 3 bites into my meal) that nothing could be done and that it was essentially my fault. At a cost of £50 for 2 people I would expect a lot more for my money. I will certainly not be attending again and I would also encourage other people not to dine here also.
