Saturday 12th October 2024 This Liverpool pub has to be one of the most unspoilt victoriana pubs in Liverpool. The windows, the bar and jug, and bottle hatch superb. The staff superb the locals a pleasure to be amongst and 5 good hand pumped ales on When in Liverpool drinking real ale find this gen odmf a pub out

The Guinness was served in a non-guinness glass and was very thin and watery. Only 2 other people in, so atmosphere was non-existant. Nice original decor inside, but I don't think I'll bother visiting again.

I think I first went for a pint here in the early seventies. That's over 50 years ago, and in all that time it's not changed one iota. I'm glad it's not changed, you need to preserve some pubs so you can remember what pubs used to be like in the good old days. I assume most of the regulars wouldn't like it to change either. One thing that always reminds me of this pub is the pork pies, they've been selling them for many years now. There's not many pubs where you can still get a nice pie and a pint. They've always got a good selection of Real ales on offer.

Great Traditional Pub, located 2 mins from Moorfields Train Station 👍 The inside is beautiful, very ornate and in fantastic condition, which makes for a really comfortable place to drink 👍 It has a decent selection of Beers that are reasonably priced, Service is good (I didn't try the food, so can't comment) One of the best things (at least for me 😉) is that they have a Jukebox 😲 and even better, it's on free-play 😎 Such a great Bar to visit 👍

Before starting a week's holiday in Torreblanca ( Costa Del Sol ) my twin brother and I decided to jump the train down from Kirkby to Liverpool City Centre and visit some of the great pubs our city is justifiably famous for, one of the first pubs we visited was The Lion Tavern Pub, been here many times over the years, always had a good time and so it proved on our latest visit. I love the look of this Victorian era pub, interior is superb, very traditional, multi roomed, a very eye catching island style serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings, a cool looking faux skylight, big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its a great pub to unwind in. We were here on a Thursday early afternoon, we ordered a cider each, these were served in excellent condition being iced cold and sparkling, we chilled out and planned out the day ahead while sipping our ciders. Cider served in here was spot on, dry, effervescent, very refreshing, bursting with taste, very easy to drink, its hardly a surprise that this pub is so popular with beers and ciders of this quality. We both really enjoyed our ciders in here before we moved on and as on every other visit to here we had a great time . The Lion Tavern Pub is easy to locate along Tithebarn Street facing Moorfields Railway Station. Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. A wonderful pub ,one I highly recommend you seek out if you're in the area.

Lovely iconic old pub. Sorry but nearly 12 for a Guinness and pint of cider, no atmosphere and having my songs deleted off the (albeit) free jukebox and manky toilets doesn't make it worth paying over the odds for.

Called in at this great little pub for a quiet lunchtime pint. The Liverpool Brewing Company Bier Head bitter was 5* and so was the pub. The interior is fabulous and unspoilt. The only downside was the incredibly scratchy and unnecessary music from the juke box. Sounded like it needs an urgent service.

Nice, old-fashioned pub. Excellent range of ales, including some new ones we hadn't tried from the Liverpool Brewing Company. Pity they hadn't lit the fire in there as we would've stayed longer-it was just a bit too cold.

Our first trip into Liverpool City Centre of the new year saw my twin brother and I visit some of our favourite pubs, one of the first pubs we visited was The Lion Tavern, one of Liverpool's finest real ale pubs. I love the look of this great Victorian era pub, interior is as traditional as it gets, multi roomed, an eye catching island style serving bar, pubby decor and furnishings, great tiled features, a cool looking faux skylight, big screens to enjoy the sport and plenty of seating options spread throughout this pub, its just a really good pub to unwind in. We were here on a Saturday early afternoon, pub was just starting to get busy,a quick study of their real ale's and we both opted to have a pale ale each from Peerless Brewery, these were served in excellent condition, we just kicked back and planned out the day ahead while sipping our pale ale's. My pale ale was outstanding, a golden, well balanced pale ale, hints of toffee and a delicious aroma and aftertaste with a slight bitter finish to it we both enjoy, hoppy but not overhopped, just a classic British pale ale served in a classic British back street boozer, hardly a surprise that this pub is so popular with real ale's served in this good a condition. We both really enjoyed our pale ale's in here before we moved on and although our visit was only fleeting as on every other visit to The Lion Tavern we had a great time. The Lion Tavern is easy to locate along the busy Moorfields ( Tithebarn Street ). Opening hours are; Monday to Sunday, open from midday. Well worth checking out if you're in the area.

The Lion Tavern is a fantastic cask ale pub on Moorfields.Established in 1865'this is an historic pub that could be older as there is evidence there was a pub located here as early as 1842. This superb pub is grade-II listed and looks stunning with a multi-roomed interior which has superb fixtures and features and many original decor and furnishings. With superb tiling and etched glass feature's and many more interesting items throughout its whole interior far to many to list on this review. We visited here early in the afternoon on a very wet day and we were one of the first in here.On our visit we had cask beer's which were superb and well priced. This is a superb pub in a brilliant area that is well worth visiting and very easy to get to from Moorfields train station its only a very short walk.(This is my 5th review of the Lion Tavern). Opening Hours. Monday-Saturday-12.00-23.00. Sunday-12.00-22.00. Public Transport. Train Station. Moorfields Train Station.

Fantastic city centre pub that has kept the real pub feeling alive with a great selection of cask ales and lots of original woodwork and ornate glass. Last night's visit will probably be my last to The Lion. I've been visiting The Lion for many years albeit maybe only 4 or 5 times per year, but I'm afraid in my opinion, the decent array of real ales alone does not make a pub. It's not really my pub of choice, but once again last night it was selected by the friends I was with and I doubt they will return either. The Men's toilets are an absolute disgrace, and the curmudgeonly Manager sets anything but a welcoming tone. After a visit to the disgustingly smelly loo, there was no soap, a tap with the pressure of a fire hose and a hand drier that wouldn't work at all no matter how good your Tommy Cooper impression was, I mentioned it to the Manager, who was working an optic and he simply snarled about serving drinks. Sadly, this is not an isolated experience of his miserable attitude and, although he may think it endearing to the pub's ambience in a perverse way, he is very much mistaken, he just comes across as rude. Lord knows how the bar staff put up with his moods, as the young lady who served us was very pleasant to be fair. I think I'll stick with The Railway next door in future, which is infinitely better in every way.
