The Railway in Liverpool

We visited on Monday evening. They had no steak pie's so I had the steak and Stilton. I didn't like it at all. The swede and carrot mash was not very warm and the chips were soggy. My husband had the fish and chips he said it was a 6/10 at best. Had checked tripadvisor before visit so was disappointed.

Looking for a pub with a good atmosphere and reasonably priced pub food the railway is the perfect place. Under £10 for steak and frites great value.

Saturday 12th October 2024 Today, we came to this good real ale pub. There were 4 hand pumped ales on all communal ales the beer I had was in good fettle The pub was a propper old-fashioned local with good barstaff A propper English real ale house

Great pub, great food, great atmosphere. It’s has such a lively vibe here and the food came to the table quite quick and was very tasty. My partner had Scouse for the very first time and loved it - thank you.

This is wonderful, atmospheric, old-school Liverpool pub which we have visited many times - over many years - and are never disappointed. The current staff are outstanding - they have time to chat and quip, provide fabulous service, and make punters feel totally at home, God bless 'em. Our number one in Liverpool for food, craic and company.

This was awesome, first time coming to this place and I LOVED it.. such friendly staff, Angelica and Elise, the night I was there, were so accommodating and looked after not only me but everyone, so friendly and helpful and efficient. Definitely would attend this pub again in the future :) was a lovely experience! Cheap beers too ;)

3 course roast dinner for £16? Yes please! Make sure to book as it was very busy when we arrived (lucky we booked) considering it was busy, the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious 🤤

My first visit to this city centre pub on a Tuesday evening was a pleasant experience. A good range of ales and lagers with a good menu too. I had the sausage and mash, plentiful and tasty. Friendly bar staff too.

I have been here yesterday and had typical Liverpudlian scouse for dinner. It was amazing! The staff was extremely friendly, the food was delicious and the drinks were good. All for a very fair price! Thank you!!

One of the oldest and most friendly pubs in Liverpool centre. The bar and rooms are very tastefully restored to their original features and makes it one of the must see pubs in the country, along with the Philharmonic.

The vegetarian nut roast was incredible - best I’ve had. Non-veg friend said it was better than the beef! Great value for Sunday roast and friendly service and atmosphere.

The ultimate burger is excellent!

Solid place for an after work pint and reasonable prices

Our hotel was near Railway Inn. Looked like a nice local Inn, good reviews too. We ordered an ultimate Burger. However, baked black on top and bottom. This isn't possible. Disappointing.

One well done without the eggs (don't judge me, right!) Both were exceptional! Cooked perfectly. No fat! I couldn't believe it! Peppercorn sauce was a generous portion! Which I loved as I hate it when they are skimpy. Bottle of red wine: the cheapest £13.50, most expensive £18. Sunday lunch was on at the same time. £15.95 for THREE courses! This place is ridiculous good value for money with excellent quality. Added bonus: staff were fantastic. Very attentive and seemed to be constantly working throughout.

Really great pub. Pints for under £4, nice live music that doesn't overpower conversation, cosy with some nice booths and really good food. Burgers and fish both served with chunky chips for under £9. Ready in 10 mins even on a busy day.

We came here looking for something lowkey for a family of 6 for a meal. The menu, whilst limited, made a good impression. The staff were fabulous and couldn’t do enough for us. There was a wait for food but once it arrived, it was worth it. The steak was amazing! Honestly for the price I am shocked at how brilliant it was. Cannot wait to come again!

What a fine restaurant with a very welcoming atmosphere. We had a traditional Sunday roast. Nothing beats this. The meal came with mashed sweet and regular baked potatoes. The onion soup as starter was a dream. The sauce to the roast beef was delicious. All this along with a lovely drafted ale. This was the best decision to start our city tour in Liverpool with. Thank you to the friendly staff. You did a great job! And thank you for the recommendation for sight seeing.

This has rocketed into my top 3 fav. pubs in the UK. It has everything you’d wish for in a classic pub; great (& reasonably priced) food, friendly staff & and great cosy atmosphere. Highly recommend this place!

Had eaten here previously & had a good meal midweek, unfortunately Sunday lunch was disappointing. The Veg was overcooked & tastless & the yorkshire pudding flat as a pancake. Served on a child's plate didn't help with the presentation. It was late, which may have been a factor.

This place is a bit of a hidden gem. It looks really scruffy from the outside, but the staff are lovely, the food is exceptional value for money (not gourmet but decent menu range and specials, with all main courses well under £10), and has well priced decent beers and lagers. Red wine options a bit mixed (tried most!), but definitely somewhere I'll happily come back to whenever I'm working in Liverpool for food and drinks. Spent 2 semi sunny evenings in the outside seating area with workmates, will be back in a few weeks!

This was a bit of an emergency stop as it was a Sunday evening and dinner was required but so many kitchens were closed. And I missed Sunday Roast across town. Big mistake. Anyway, the kitchen here was very close to being closed so I likely got the scraps from leftovers but still no excuse. Very disappointing dish. Beer selection was good and pints were poured well. The young folks tending bar were great so they saved the place. In the end, I’m glad I stopped by.

I can't wait to go back. Everything was excellent! So good, I went twice in 5 days!

Called in unbooked for a Sunday lunch with our cousins from Barcelona who had seen good Trip Advisor reviews.. We were not disappointed and we were seated straight away... we were served by George who welcomed us to the Railway and took our drinks order straight away... 3 course meal was chosen STARTERS Pea & mint soup with crusty bread Pate Bruschetta with mushrooms MAINS Beef & Yorshire pud Chicken & sage Lamb & mint PUDDINGS Sticky toffee pudding & custard All I can say is WOW & everyone enjoyed their meal in great surroundings... So Highly recommended we returned the day after for more food & drinks...if you have the opportunity then call in & say Hi...stay a while and enjoy the food, drinks & atmosphere

Staff bend the rules on different shift times, I always get a takeout from this pub came in asking could I have takeout I then got the reply “it’s up to the staff on shift if they want to do takeout” however any other staff member I’ve engaged with has always been so friendly

Lovely Sunday roast and really great service.

One of the best authentic pubs in Liverpool City Centre. The service is always very friendly and the food is top quality for a price that gives Wetherspoons a run for their money.

Average food, slow service, rude. Made us miss our bus and late for a tour. Didn't even get to finish the Sunday roast. Two hour service trash. Should not take that long. Worst experience in GB & Europe.

This 5 star review is for the kitchen on Saturday 16th March. Your food was reasonably priced and taisted delicious. Beef and ale pie veg and chips washed down with a pint of larger.......perfect!

Nice food good value for money and really plesent staff

Been coming here for many decades and it's not changed a bit. That's the way most of the customers like it. Good selection of food and drink and a nice place to spend an afternoon. I normally go here in the afternoons as I've found that it can get a bit full of an evening.

Good value for money lunch, very friendly staff, very interesting historical Liverpool pub. Still excellent. Tu Back again- we had salt and pepper chicken, chicken burger(more like a generous fillet) , the mega burgers and puds for afters. Everything freshly cooked and delicious. Good value for money for such good food. We had a choice of places to go but grandad and the grandchlidren insisted on visiting again. This pub is so good for everyone whether in working overalls or suits, dresses or jeans, teeshirts or silk blouses! TU for such a warm welcome! The non - scousers among us just can't stop talking about this lovely pub. Ta! Xxxxxx 2024- still vg. Staff are so lovely - a credit to the friendly Liverpool cultural scene, great food, lovely atmosphere . Classic pub, good range of drinks, warming and a good atmosphere.

The food was OK. Nicely presented. We ordered the chicken and ham pie, spicy chicken and calamari. The pie was nice but could have done with more ham. The spicy chicken was nice and could have had more flavour. The calamari was not good at all, so we sent it back. We did get a refund for it. The staff are very friendly and the service was great. There were a few people in the bar, so there was a good buzz. I would go back to this place even just for a drink.

Waited 40 mins for a burger that was too overcooked, and the bacon was like a crisp, chips were soggy like they'd just come from mic, and worst of al, the coleslaw was off. Absolutely disgusting. Totally ripped off.

The service was prompt and very warmly, I had the vegan pie with mash it was very nice but the taste was not as mushroom as it stated but more of a pepper gravy taste still very nice indeed with baby mushrooms inside. I've tried the Hallumi wrap this was also lovely too. Do not get the railway sundae I was very disappointed, I got a bowl of one small scoop of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry flavour ice cream with a sprinkle of toffee. No sauce, no wafer and not much ice cream and no explanation.

Super atmosphere and great food. Steak Fries was the best price/performance I have ever experianced. Almost all dishes are below 10 pounds and portions are huge.

Ordered two different pies and veg etc. Husband got what he ordered after waiting about 45 minutes. Looked good even though it was a long wait. I got the wrong pie. Sent it back and waited another 40 minutes for the right pie but with the wrong accompaniments. Ate it anyway as I was very hungry. Had to ask for the filthy table to be cleaned before we ate. No apologies or asking if the food was ok. Bar staff good and working very hard. Very noisy pub. Won't bother going here again sadly.
