This was such a fun spot! I didn’t realize that wearing cowboy boots was code for wanting to two step! I don’t know how to two step but I really enjoyed watching everyone dance.

Awesome lil honky tonk to go check out if you're in the area. Has that old feeling. And they teach the texas 2 step Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights at 7 o'clock. Staff is super friendly. Live music 7 days a week. And the food truck is amazing too!

Had the best time here! I was visiting Austin for a few days from London as a solo traveller and went here on a Saturday night. I love country music but had never done two-step before so I went for the dance lesson and ended up staying for several hours dancing to the excellent live country bands. Big thanks to the local guys for teaching me the steps and being patient with this English girl (especially a man called Andrew who I didn’t say bye to at the end). If you’re in Austin and thinking of going here, do it!

White Horse is a very fun country themed bar with live music and dancing. I am not super into either of those things but I still had a really good time there with my friends.

Cute spot, the band was really good, the tacos outside are really yummy- I got the Al pastor (no onions) and veggie mushroom and potatoes. They were a good size and tasty. I would come back here with a group. It was nice that they had free entry before 7:30, but no re-entry after that time without paying cover charge.

It was kind of boring to be sincere. It is not a place for line dancing. It had only a few couple dancing 2-steps. Cover is 10$ per person in cash. ATM available

Came to learn to 2-step. Which can be intimidating given how good everyone here already was at it. We came early enough to grab a table but they seem to fill up early. Pretty friendly crowd/bartending staff, which encouraged us to try our hand at 2-stepping (not well). Cheap drinks, which helped. The band performing was surprisingly good so that was a treat. The only downside is the parking, which can be a bit difficult in this area (no fault of the bar itself). If you're looking for a night of dancing and music, this is a nice choice.

Taco truck out back is amazing. Despite being out of a few things the alternatives were just as good. Margaritas on tap. Good outdoor seating. And the line dancing lessons were fun despite being crowded.

Had a lovely meal at this pub. The food was excellent, we had the Nachos and Veggie Spring Rolls to start and we were very impressed. I think they're the best I've tasted. Nachos are fully loaded! Lovely mains of Scampi and Chicken and Leek pie. The chips are double cooked and really good. Nice glass of red too! The staff are great, very friendly and welcoming. Definitely worth a visit when in the area.

It's a classic spot in Austin, known for that laid-back atmosphere. It's cool they have pool tables and a nice patio – perfect for hanging out. And yeah, no cover before 7:30 is always a bonus.

Still the greatest overall honky-tonk in Austin at the moment, the best mix of tourists, dancers and old school music fans, and, since the pandemic it no longer smells like vomit! NO DRINKS ON THE DANCEFLOOR TIP THE BAND Update 2025. Honestly, back in the day, this place was... Difficult to love. It smelled like puke and tourists were absolutely terribly behaved. But since 2020, the place is cleaner and the tourists are somehow less annoying, AND the regular crowd still frequents the place. Combine that with a stellar staff and legitimate two step lessons most nights (unlike a certain popular-but-very-incorrect dance lesson group out there) and you have what just might be the essence of the legendary idea of Austin in one venue. I can't believe it's even better than before, but it really is.

Cheep Drinks, great music, plenty of Dancing and the hot Bartender is definitely getas the extra tips. Love coming here and I'll be back for more

Had the best time here - it’s crowded, it’s hot, but it’s FUN! Love the lineup of live music and dancing. Definitely a fun mix of people and the staff/service was great, as well. (Also, be mindful of the cash only cover… atm on site but if you want to save a few bucks on fees, bring cash with you.)

We loved this place! We think it's one of the best atmospheres in Austin and the live music was great, everyone dances and if you don't know how to do it, they teach you. Recommended 10/10. Cover of $10usd at the entrance.

So fun. Great friendly staff. Busy happening place w folks who really can dance! I was impressed. No on site parking but it’s pretty easy on the nearby blocks.

The venue itself is nice, cover price though is ONLY cash, but the men at this bar are rude and aggressive. They don’t understand the word no and neither the bartenders or bouncers care to step in when problems come up.

Bomb Tacos is inside this place. They allowed a customer make an order and send me a Door Dasher to pick up an order when they were closed. The bouncer at the door said "this happens all the time" like it was no big deal. I will be denying delivery of there product.

Never a dull moment in this place! It’s a portal into the edgy dive dance den that my inner rebel loves to keep in rotation.

Had a fun few drinks here during our vacation to Austin. There was a band playing and plenty of dancing to enjoy. Cover was $5 and well worth it.

How much you want to spend depends on you. They also had a food truck when you went outside to the patio.

What a magical place the dance floor at The White Horse is. Strangers just dancing with each other in beautiful unison. It was like being in a movie watching the people on the dance floor. A must go to place for anyone. The people were so warm and friendly.

I really enjoyed the live music here. Two step couples all over the dance floor. It's couples only dancing near the stage which is good to know. It was hopping on a Wednesday night when I was there.

Nothing good ever lasts, and the WH is no different. Once great Honky Tonk is now just another smelly East Side dive catering to the pretentious millennial Lexus/Infinity/Audi crowd who have no problem paying a 10 dollar cover to drink pretentious craft beer sold by the alcohol volume. Sadly, now just another cookie cutter cash cow yuppie hangout for the designer jeans crowd.

The last time I went was 2014 to see my favorite band, chili cold blood. Unfortunately, bent over putting drinks on the floor for the band and somebody hit me on my back side. I was wearing black jeans.It hurt so bad that I stood up looked around for the culprit. I never saw anyone. I immediately walked out of the club and never went back. I haven't seen chili cold blood since and never returned to the club or the Austin night life.

I love the place. It's an Austin jewl. In the ninety's, it used to be a Tejano club, and the same layout (unlike most places on thd EastSide) hasn't change on the "legendary" White Horse. I was on the hood on the summer of 2024 and I was asked to leave the premises, without any reasoning. I am just wondering, what did I do,? To be disrespected that way.

An Austin institution. You can come here to drink, to eat but if you don't come here to dance and two-step, what are you doing with your life? Grab a Lone Star, grab a partner and dossey-do onto the dance floor.

We went last weekend to dance and listen to some live music. This place was a lot of fun. Beer is fairly cheap. No air conditioning, but they had a few fans. It was okay, even on a hot night. The music was great. Dancing was fun!! We'd go back for sure.

Inside of five nights at Freddy House

We came on a Tuesday night and were served by a guy that worked two jobs and he was genuinely amazing. However came back on our last night (Monday 10th June), and waited 20mins for any service whatsoever, they gave us the wrong drinks to which at this point I had to shout someone over because they’d ignored us the whole time- told them I wasn’t happy with the service, he said he didn’t know who was serving our section- the woman behind the bar kept staring and smirking and making us feel uncomfortable. It’s such a shame because we had such a fantastic time the first time. Goes to show the people you employ really make a difference.

I love this bar. Especially the dancing classes. Beth coffee is an Austin establishment and she makes learning the Texas two step so easy and fun. The environment is so welcoming. I’ve taken multiple friends to the classes and they both thought it was the highlight of the trip. It’s really easy to start the night here for a class and then party the rest of the night away!

Our group's evening was ruined by a tall, skinny bearded busboy/barback who apparently was doing double duty as security. We were outside of the front doors leaving, looking through the wooden fence at some friends taking pictures. He proceeded to tell us to get away from the fence and said he was going to call the police. He continued to bow up, trying to intimidate us. The security guy checking ID's watching the whole thing, didn't move, wouldn't help. As we walked toward the street, busboy/wanna be security kept walking behind us, I guess, to ensure that we were complying with his request. In any event, an awful customer experience. We can take our business elsewhere and hope others do the same.

My girlfriend’s shoe fell off and while she was trying to get it back on she got yelled at by an “employee” who was extremely rude and condescending!

Fun little honky tonk bar with live music and dancing. It gets pretty crowded but it’s a great time and definitely worth it. Bartenders are friendly and service is quick. Great vibes and a must-do activity if you’re visiting Austin.

The doorman asked for our id. We gave it but he didn’t let us in even though we are 35. It felt like discrimination since I’m from Europe.

Arrived early and there was dancing at lift off! An hour later, the dancefloor was full and so much fun to watch!

This is one of the spots where the true Austin dancers go during the week (Tuesdays being a common night)—I’ve come here for years! The style is a fusion, non-traveling two-step with a twist of blues and swing. Dance to live music (or watch!) and make sure not to stand on the the floor or bring a drink out there while dancing (huge faux pax!). Let one of the regulars show you the basics and tip the band! (Also: whiskey on tap, food truck out back, and bring cash for cover)

One of the few places that you can still get a little glimpse of what Austin used to be like when it was actually Austin. Great music, pretty girls, strong liquor. There's nothing more than you could ask for in a dive bar.
