The White Hart at Hook in Basingstoke and Deane

Visiting the area for a night, lovely pub. The 2 members of staff I spoke to were very friendly and welcoming and the ales seemed very well looked after. Nice locals too.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch. Arrived and clearly table wasn’t reserved , table found and order placed at the bar. Ordered at 1330 for 5 people meal arrived at 1455!!! Completely unacceptable wait and no apology just a disorganised and inadequately staffed restaurant. Meal terrible roast potatoes like bricks, roast chicken was definitely fried not roasted and vegetables out of a tin. Couldn’t have been further from a roast dinner if it tried.

This place has recently had an upgrade and it shows in the food and service Good reasonably priced food with very polite staff I will return 👍

We visited the white hart hotel After such a lovely refreshment from sizzling brand to the modern Ember Inns. Out party booked a table of 10 Friendly welcome and drinks served promptly When we came to order at the bar we were told that there are no Steaks/chicken wings/ nachos/mac cheese. Most of our party would have liked steaks Mac cheese but were not told this on arrival and that is what’s missing with no table or floor service. It’s either Oder at the bar or by the app. The starters came out promptly especially the 1 portion of chips that arrived at our table before we all got back sadly they were hard still frozen and in a tiny bowl £3.49? All in all the pub and staff are lovely but the stock control and kitchen need attention

We were trying this pub for the first time since the refurbishment having lived in the village for many years. Arrived at 7 and seated straightaway. Left at the table with no explanation as to how to order (there appeared to be an app) - no offer of drinks whilst we looked at the menu. Used app which was very slow only to discover 4 or 5 main meal items were unavailable including the curry and lasagne. App allowed you to state ‘to be served as soon as possible’ or ‘to be served with the main course’. Order placed at 7.16. We chose prawns as a shared starter to come as soon as possible - they arrived at 7.58. Main course of pie, chips and wilted greens - greens were unavailable and there were no other vegetables so were offered new potatoes! Eventually chose salad. Also ordered a mixed grain salad which was missing the dressing. The mains arrived at 8.10. Decided not to risk pudding. At no point were we advised of any delay nor asked ‘how was your food’. If we hadn’t already paid with the order we would have left. Also app offers the option to top before any food/service has been delivered. Food we had was tasty and prawns especially nice but not nice enough to return.

The hotel/restaurant has been closed for refurb and our stay was the first night open. It did not disappoint and had a perfect stay - lovely room, location and food in the restaurant. Such history to the hotel and area too (we read about it in a really interesting booklet on the bar). Would highly recommend.

Cannot recommend this hotel enough, made our stay extremely comfortable at a very reasonable price. Even just to visit for a meal we would most worthwhile.

I went to the white Hart for a meal with my 3y/o son. The Chef was amazing, and put the meal out at a great pace, and perfectly cooked & Well plated. - she also popped her head round to make sure it was ok as i was sat in main part of bar. - Very friendly - Adult meal, I had a Double chicken burger, the sauce was ultimately really spicy, but not uncomfortable spicy, and definitely worth going back for! Bar Staff were amazing, very bubbly, friendly laughing and joking with each other whilst working, which is a sure sign they are happy working there & a good selection of drinks & as much as i didnt, they seemed quite happy making cocktails too... IF your In hook, definitely worth a visit... Only downside is carpark requires you to register at bar, but it is walkable from the station **There is confusingly "The Old White Hart" a 5 minute walk away, I have been there too, but wasnt anywhere near as good as the white hart.

Dreadful, please don’t bother. This pub has not been decorated in years, it’s filthy, food was inedible and reminded me of a motorway service station. Sadly could do nothing about it as friends were staying here but they too had their own complaints over rude staff, being locked out and the general condition of their room. Honestly, do not waste your money, these days there are so many other places to go to where customer service and quality actually means something

We took a family room (no. 10) and it was spacious for the 3 of us. Staff were very friendly and helpful. We had several meals in the pub restaurant and it was good pub food at a very reasonable price. We would definitely return.

This could be a really nice pub but unfortunately it has been ruined by the so called “company policy” to litter every wall with a TV which is constantly on. If I wanted to watch Tv I can watch at home. If I want to watch a match with my mates I would go to either The Raven or The Old White Hart. With the population of Hook having grown in the last few years this pub has the potential to turn itself into a far better place, serving the families of Hook, with a more traditional pub, decent food, a range of beers (only ever serve one that seems to be available) and with no TV IN YOUR FACE

We stayed in the hotel for a night witch was very comfy clean and modern , we ate dinner and breakfast in the pub and have no complaints about either . The food was served hot and plenty of it all cooked fresh . The staff wore all friendly and happy to serve us . We would definitely stay here again and recommend this place to any one .

On 11 September we made our booking for 14th at 7PM: we could have been advised that the kitchen closed at 8PM but weren't. On 14th, the first couple arrived, found our allocated table and ordered their drinks at the bar: they could have been advised that the kitchen closed at 8PM but weren't. A few minutes, the second couple arrived, usual greetings to first couple, then ordered their drinks at the bar: they could have been advised that the kitchen closed at 8PM but weren't. Looked at the menu and decided on our choices and went to the bar to order: again not advised that the kitchen closed at 8PM. Even when our meals were served, we were not told about the imminent closure of the kitchen. Whilst admitting that the meals were all enjoyable, the evening was totally spoiled when we went to the bar, at 8:20PM, to order our desserts to then be informed that them kitchen was closed. The only notice to be seen was one on the hotel reception desk which stated that the kitchen was closed from 1600 to 1700 hours. Absolutely nothing else and no advise from staff to say that the kitchen also closed at 8PM. We paid our bill and left having had what should have been a very enjoyable evening totally spoiled. We will not be going back.

Had an enjoyable evening. Lovely atmosphere and welcoming staff. Meals were a good size and value for money. The jerk chicken and Cajun seasoned salmon were very fiery so be warned. Perhaps a little less seasoning would make them a bit more enjoyable. In addition to these dishes we had scampi, fish and chips and sirloin steak which were great

Stayed for 3 nights here in June. Room was spacious and clean, beds extremely comfortable, bathroom spotless and towels clean. Staff were polite and helpful. Breakfast was reasonably priced and tasty. Bar area however was a little grubby and could do with some TLC. Overall a pleasant stay and would probably return.

Visited this great place with the family. Great food decent prices but the best thing was the enclosed beer garden. Will return.

Just parked in the carpark and ised the charger for my electric car. Paid £15 for 1/2 a charge which sone would say is very expensive. Now received an additional £80 fine for being parked for 40 mins. Why put an electric charger in your car park and then rip people off, we supposed to be supporting green cars!

We were really low on charge on our electric car, and our car directed us to go here to charge. The pub was marked as a public charge point. The pub was also closed. We normally go into pubs or restaurants that have charging points and get a drink or a bite, but since it was closed we couldn't. We've charged in many many different pub parking lots and never ever had a fine or a fee sent by a pub. They didn't care, and sent us a parking fine of £50, plus £10 for 'admin fees' My advice to people is don't charge here. My advice to the pub is register it as a private charging point, or put a gate so people can't get in to charge out of hours. Put a big fat sign on the actual charger that says "this is not a public charger, you will be fined £50 if you charge here and don't buy something from us" Feels like they were taking advantage of the fact that charging in Hook is limited. Slapping someone desperate with a £60 fee seems scammy, and horrible. You've got a public charging point in your parking lot, it shows up on maps aimed at public chargers!

The restaurant had a slightly reduced menu, and the manager was cooking, due to staff issues, however, the starters, steaks & King prawns we had were superb, cooked to perfection. The bar & waiting staff were all friendly and helpful. A truly lovely evening. Thank you!
