Very welcoming as a lone diner. Excellent food, credit to the chef and staff here. The pie was delicious and it was lovely for the chef to come over to check if I was enjoying it, that’s unusual given most chefs hide away in the kitchen not to be seen, but a very nice touch from the chef. I highly recommend the homemade cheese & onion pie. Overall 10/10 and will definitely come back again to try the other pies. Thanks

Called in here today. Greeted with friendly service. The food was exellent piping hot fresh and well priced. Proper chips. Highly recommended.

Excellent...the staff were lovely, the young lass who looked after us was great as was the chef who checked to make sure we were happy🙂 the cheese and onion pie with proper home made chips, peas and cheese sauce was piping hot and delicious. My other half had the fish and chips, the batter was light and crispy he really enjoyed it. We will definitely return. Thankyou 🙂

Visited on a Saturday night for food without a booking… the bar was very busy and the restaurant was also nearly full but they accommodated us with a table for two. The service and food was excellent, the Cheese Pie was amazing and clearly homemade. Our waiter was really helpful and was attentive and dealt with are requests to amend dishes without any hesitation. The Duty Manager Emily was lovely and was the first contact we had when we arrived and Ashleigh was great recommending the right Gin when we had a drink in the bar afterwards. Defiantly a great local in Middlewich centre.

Food excellent, beer excellent, service excellent and staff very friendly, polite and helpful. Absolutely nothing bad to say of this public house. Have used before and will use again. Recommend to anyone in the area.

A bit disappointing. Out for a cycle ride and got a bit peckish so looked on google and found this place so decided to call in for the first time, firstly the restaurant is spotless and decor is very lovely and a little outdoor area which is always a great touch, Onto the food, The main meals were amazing we had the Wexford chicken and the honey chicken and honestly both were amazing, and the chef even came out to check on us and see how we liked the food which I thought was very nice. He’s a lovely Spanish gentleman, who definitely knows how to cook. Finally onto the disappointment desert we went for the eaten mess and chocolate brownie, Both not good. The eaten mess with more cream and fruit almost no meringue. And the brownie seemed it was microwaved to long unfortunately I couldn’t eat it. Although the 4 star review we will be back, just maybe skip desert next time

This pub is fantastic! The roasts are to die for! I recently stayed at a local festival and they allowed take away roasts dinners which I collected. They offered to lend me some cutlery which I returned the next day! Yesterday we returned and dined inside. The interior is beautiful. Lovely attention to detail. The garden is gorgeous with stunning planters. Staff are lovely. Highly recommend 👌

Had food in here last night and have to say the food was absolutely lovely. The lady serving us was brilliant she couldn't do enough a credit to your pub, and we will definitely be coming in again.

We were there for the FAB festival. So, it's not a normal visit! The pub luckily has plenty of space at the back. A stage, a small drinks corner, and a pizza van with a few tables and chairs set up. We were lucky as we did get seated. The Rajastan Steel Band & Circus were amazing. Fantastic effort from the pub and the staff.

Great pub/hotel in the centre of town. Spacious and clean room (Fozzie). Very friendly and helpful staff. Generous and tasty cooked breakfast. Pub has good selection of ales if that’s your thing. We also enjoyed the live music in the rear courtyard.

Steak pie chips and lovely vegetables Beautifully cooked to perfection Rhubarb crumble and custard. Perfect. Needed a little sleep in the afternoon. Very friendly staff. So worth a visit. This is a place yiu would feel comfortable sitting on yourr own.. I really must return to try Gins of the day when I am not driving .

Went for a small meal with my family at Christmas time in December 2023. There were an excellent range of food which I enjoyed. Definitely would recommend!

The ale trail was spoilt for a lot of people by the managers/owners decision not to stamp cards unless you drank their choice, all the other venues stamped cards whatever you drank. Won't be spending anymore money here.

We tried to go every Friday after work during Winter and Spring. Its just a really relaxing, cosy pub in the middle of Middlewich. The best pub in town by a mile.

Lovely food for a very reasonable price. Staff are friendly and helpful. We went for lunch on a weekday and it was quiet.

A great local pub. A frequently changed range of hand pulled beers. Called in for a Sunday lunch. Lovely staff here. Food is good value. Roast chicken was really nicely cooked to be tasty. Nice staff. Good beer. Tasty food. Great chef. What more could you want? Definitely worth a visit.

What a gem of a pub. Very nice food, good choice and reasonably priced as well. Spot on service, clean and well kept. The choice in the bar was excellent and could have sat all evening trying the ales available. Well worth the visit again. 👍👍👍

Although I've not eaten here yet, they atmosphere was amazing and I'm very happy they they have a dedicated gf beer tap. The food menu looks great too... Will definitely be going back!

We have been here numerous times and I have never reviewed which I apologise for. This pub is so nice. Lovely atmosphere and really nice food. We are never disappointed. It is so fresh and tasty! If you haven't tried it then please give it a go. You will not be disappointed. The only negative is that we were a bit cold. Every time the door opened we felt a strong cold draught. They should really ask customers to stop talking whilst holding the door open. I know I am being picky but these things are important.

We were told the The White Bear was the best place for a meal in Middlewich so we did not hesitate. I was in Middlewich to research my family roots, when I told Paul Cochran this, he produced some interesting local history books to browse while we ate. My husband and I are vegetarian and enjoyed our meal choice. Excellent service and ambiance.

A good pint of real ale. The food was OK but a little disappointed that the mushrooms on my chicken were cremated. Chicken breast was fine. A friend's scampi overcooked and our onion rings had lovely crispy batter but nearly raw onion. (Frying oil too hot?)

Great hometown pub with several different types of areas to sit both inside and out. The drinks and beer are cold, staff very friendly and food good.

Late Sunday roast with all the trimmings hit just the right spot! Having moored our holiday narrow boat we were eagerly looking for something to fill our hungry tummies. The White Bear sounded inviting and it sure was. Sunday roast was advertised until 4pm so with trepidation we ventured forth to see what else we could sample. A welcoming waitress showed us to a table and declared roast was still available! Yes! Two courses for £16.95 sounded very good value and it lived up to its billing. We all chose a starter, king prawns with chilli and garlic, garlic mushrooms and Thai style crab cakes. A fabulous collection of appetisers, the mushrooms were decidedly the stars with a gorgeous creamy cheese sauce atop toasted ciabatta. I was a bit jealous of the crab cakes which my son scoffed with enthusiasm. There were plenty of prawns on offer with our final starter, spicy with chillis and garlic. Three roast beef dinners followed with the usual yorkies (perhaps a little over done but scrummy all the same), roasties, veg and several slices of beef. Tasty and delicious 😋 With a couple of glasses of red, lager for the boys, we needed a wander round the village before heading back to the boat. Try this pub if you are in the vicinity, it’s well worth it!

Excellent meal, I had the Wexham chicken with a peppercorn sauce, hubby had Steak and ale pie. Both meals were lovely. We came in a lunchtime not busy and service was good! No complaints. Good beer, great meal!

My partner's birthday and we decided to have evening drinks and some food at The White Bear - having only ever had drinks previously. The service is always excellent and it didn't disappoint again. The dog got great service too as the landlord brought out a big bowl of water for my 'hot' dog and some treats before we'd even got to the bar. The beer is kept well and the staff are friendly and accommodating. We ordered food, for me lasagne and my partner fish and chips (large). The food was very good for pub grub. I'm a chef and honestly was delighted with the delicious creamy lasagne served with crunchy sweet potato fries and an ample portion of buttery garlic bread. Even the salad was fresh and tasty. My partner's meal was equally enjoyable and the homemade chips were as yummy as the large piece of fish with crispy batter. We will definitely eat here again to try other tasty items off the menu - especially as the chef seems to care about his customers' experience as much as the front-of-house staff. Really lovely staff (a young girl with blue hair served us and she was so genuinely sweet) We had a slight issue with our food order and it was dealt with incredibly amazing! We would def return here! The back garden is lovely! Also has a lovely huge shaded table to hide from the sun! And the other tables have umbrellas to hide from the sun! Dogs welcome!!!

Friendly bar staff, dog friendly, 4 different cask ales with alcohol free options. Very clean with lovely beer garden and the food was very good.

Had a 2 night stay over the weekend and all I can say is WOW..... Very friendly, accommodating staff had a really relaxing stay. Full English breakfast was great, also had dinner from the menu that couldn't be faulted. Will be my first choice to stay the next time I'm in Middlewich.

Had lunch on Wednesday with my friend, excellent food & friendly staff and gorgeous homemade chips, will be our regular meeting place for a meal.

This pub/hotel is superb. The owner, Paul, was extremely helpful and friendly. Everything was 1st class including free parking, spacious room large en suite and made to order breakfast. I would highly recommend this pub/hotel.

Popped in for a drink to pick up wife who was having a meal with friends. Very good ambience, told that the food was good and enjoyed a nice pint.

Lovely place brilliant food and drink

A friend has just moved to Middlewich and this is her local, what a lucky lass she is! On entering, the place was buzzing but we were warmly greeted and quickly seated. The menu had the usual pub grub classics and a few more unusual dishes. We both chose the pan fried sea bass with spicy noodles and mangetout which was cooked to perfection. The coffee was hot black thick and tasty enough to warrant three cups! This pub has a modern clean appearance with great staff and nice toilets. I can't wait to return to taste more of their Fayre.

Stopped off for a leisurely drink followed by lunch then met a friend. Lovely relaxing atmosphere. Lunch was cod and chips for hubby and steak and sauted onion ciabatta for moi. Just right for a lunchtime meal. The steak was melt in the mouth. Coffee and tea afterwards was good.

Great food and drink. Great staff and really friendly atmosphere. UPDATE - Stayed over last weekend. Lovely big room and a very comphy bed. Throw in a great breakfast and you have the best full package. Paul and the staff know how to make sure you enjoy your stay. FURTHER UPDATE Back again for a family get-together meal. Food drink and service as good as always.

Great dining experience from choice of food, friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere. Food hot and well presented, staff very helpful and happy to advise. Rooms warm and inviting and even on a Monday night a jolly ambience prevailed. Would visit again if in the vicinity.

The white bear is a very good place to eat out. Service is fast & friendly, there's a good food selection & the chef definitely nows his way round the kitchen, every part of the starter, main & desert was superb. It was a good all-round experience for the 5 of us so 5 stars for a great time.

Came in for a drink and decided to return the following evening for a meal. Great atmosphere, good choice of real ales for the hubby. Meal was absolutely delicious, breaded Brie and Christmas pie all fresh and tasty. Washed down with a Middlewich gin. Staff attentive and friendly. Lovely evening thank you
