Stumbled across this pub whilst visiting Whitchurch. Have given rating as average as didn’t feel it warranted a very good. However, it is better than average. Food very good and freshly prepared. Only came in contact with one member of staff serving behind bar and she seemed pleasant. I was disappointed as would have like to sit outside but it needs a bit of TLC so end up sitting inside. It was a shame that a couple of dogs were let in as one of them kept barking, I would have preferred not to have animals around food. The food we had was good but think the whole place needs a bit of TLC.

The landlady was lovely. Barstaff (the one that served us I hasten to add) needs to have a more welcoming approach to new guests! Visited this pub 9 years ago and not changed a bit except it used to be packed and always struggled to get a table ! Food! Well it was just ok but when your paying £12 for a burger I expect people to go the extra mile when they present it!!! Very poorly presented food . Won't be visiting again shame as we have a lot of friends locally and was asked by a few locals our thoughts😩 this pub could be a raging success with and lots of local people would use it! Needs a revamp & a new chef

Found this place by google whilst travelling home from a weekend in Liverpool. We stopped for a bite to eat in summary was great pub and food for expected pub prices. Quaint village pub in No Mans Heath, traditional in side with covered bench seating, tables and chairs. We stopped at the end of lunchtime so it was quiet and hence the food was served quickly even though cooked fresh. The staff were great, very friendly and the Lady chef came out to tell us about her specials. We chose the mushroom soup to share for starters which was delicious, very tasty with a sweet bread which complimented it well. For mains We had the recommended special of Piri Piri chicken freshly made as the last even asked how Piri my husband wanted it . So cooked to taste and with home made chips which were slightly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. This came with a great side salad of mixed leaves, celery, c’cumber, tomato, pepper and onion with a fabulous mayonnaise on the side. And Tuna sandwich on brown bread which was massive, along with more of the salad much more actually as I had asked for extra instead of the homemade chips. Both meals were well prepared, more than enough and very yummy. Oh and I have to mention the coffee which was also fabulous. I’ve had some good and some terrible coffees in pubs and this I have to say was up there with best of them. We didn’t look at the desserts so cannot comment. Definitely worth a stop if your passing by.

We have been to the Wheatsheaf several times since it re opened and we think its great! We live a very short walk away and so is very convenient for us. The prices are reasonable, the food is great and the staff pleasant. I had my birthday meal here with some friends and they all loved it also! They often have pub quizzes, karaoke and live music as well but we've never managed to get to any of those yet; however they do look smashing looking at the pictures! If you're after good food at reasonable then look no further!

As fairly new residents to the village we had been meaning to try this place for a few weeks, with a view to becoming regular diners. So we called in for Sunday lunch today. We ordered two starters and two roast beef lunches, my husband had to send his soup back as there was a long hair in his soup, this obviously put me off my starter and I could not eat it. Then I noticed lipstick on my glass, and I never wear lipstick. The food was very bland and not hot enough and strangely the beef came with sage and onion stuffing? When we went to pay the bill, we were asked had everything been okay, so we answered honestly, we had an apology but they still charged us for the soup and the wine in a dirty glass. We will obviously not be returning and if you value quality and cleanliness do not go there. You should look after your new customers better than this.

My wife and I decided to visit this pub on the basis of the positive Tripadvisor reviews for both vegetarian meals and real ale.We were not disappointed. There are very few establishments in South Cheshire that offer more than 2 or 3 vegetarian dishes in both starter and main groups. To offer 5 main course vegetarian dishes (excluding pizzas) is exceptional and unfortunately currently the norm for the majority of pubs in this area. The key requirement for any vegetarian dish is - flavour. The Wheatsheaf delivered on this for both dishes that I (Mushroom Stroganoff) and my wife had (Garlic Mushrooms on Toast). The staff were very friendly and attentive; we also had a great chat with the chef. The only down side (more relevant to the pub than us) was that we were the only diners (Thurs 29 Dec).Access into and within the pub is suitable for a disabled person or person in a wheelchair; cannot comment about the toilets but will try and assess in future which will require consumption of significantly more of the Facers Sunny Bitter (highly recommended).Highly recommend this pub and will be visiting again in the near future.

We called in here as it was close to where we were staying in self catering accommodation. The three of us all had starters and main meals. The starters were so nice but be warned they don't skimp on portions! One had broccoli and Stilton soup with crusty bread, one had prawn cocktail and crusty bread and I had garlic mushrooms in sauce with little chunks of Stilton on a toasted doorstep. Absolutely delicious. For mains we had chicken breast in a mushroom and white wine sauce with chips and veg and hickory chicken with chips and salad. The portions were huge and none of us could finish them but we thoroughly enjoyed what we ate. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. Highly recommend a visit here.

Waw what a find this place is. The choice for vegetarians on a sunday is exellent. The everyday menu for vegetarians here is good but to have a choice of 2 vegetarian Sunday roast is brilliant. Quorn or nut roast with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and vegetables. We always opt for the nut roast. You can choose a vegetarian or vegan gravy, both are gluten free. The portions are large so I usually ask for a children's sized meal. Nearly all the desserts are gluten free. The chocolate brownie is the nicest I have ever tasted. We always book because the eating area is very small and it is really just a regular pub. There is always a bit of a wait for the meal but it is always worth it. We are a family of 2 vegetarians and 4 meat eaters so we all have a fabulous Sunday dinner here at a very reasonable price.

I chose this pub because it has gluten-free, vegetarian and vegan food - there are very few pubs/ restaurants like this around, certainly here. I need gluten-free and my friend is a vegetarian. The pub is certainly not luxurious, not posh in the slightest. But the staff are friendly. If the sign of good food is the way the vegetables are cooked (that's what I look for) then that is the reason why, from this visit, I give it just 3*. I wish I could be more enthusiastic since places that cater for vegans etc. for instance are few and far between

We live in Ellesmere port about a 35 minute drive so a good chance to show her our lovely countryside. pub was not as big as we thought it would be but very comfy and enough room, my sons fiance was very impressed with the vegan menu especially the desserts ,so much so she took a photo of the menu on the blackboard and sent it to her mum and sister who are also vegan !!!. the owner/chef came out to take our orders and give us advice on the food and a nice touch were the vegan yorkshire puds. There wasn't a atmosphere at all through out the pub. Everytime our daughter spoke we felt we had to tell her to be quiet. it took over an hour for our food to arrive even though there was only 2 other people dining. The service was very poor through out our time there, when the food did finaly arrive was not impressed at all. The vegtables were basicly raw and cold, the yorkshire pubbings were burnt on the bottom and soggy rest of the way through, the gravy was lumpy and the skin was poured over my beef when it arrived. My daughters pasta was undercooked and it states it comes with a tomato sauce and it was like water with a splode of red sauce to change the colour. Not once did any of the staff ask us if the meals were ok not even when we went to pay, so couldnt complain then, they were more interested in talking to a what seemed a local person when they had just walked through the door. Found the menu very poor for choice, and what choice you do have would expect the food to be alot better than that standard.

Waited over an hour for our starter , then waited another 45min for our main course . ( we put a stopwatch on our phones to see how long it would take due to it being such a long time for the starter ) Highlight of our meal . Plates were cold , the gentleman told us they don't serve food on hot plates because of the children ??? , there was no one with us under the age of 20 . Peppercorn sauce tasted like chippy curry . when asked if the chef had added curry to our sauce, the man quickly returned with a tube of Knorr POWERED peppercorn sauce . Brandy , peppercorns and reduce cream down in a pan . that how easy it is to make this sauce . Each meal came out separately , most waitress can carry at least 2 plates at once . Was told we had a long wait due to them being busy with 14 covers 8 of these was us . We were never apologised to for our bad experience by anyone . Another tip may be to hire yourselves a chef , that can cook more than 1 meal at a time . There was no excuse for this very poor service and food . VERY DISAPPIONTED , We like to eat out every Sunday as a family and like to support any local business . So you never delivered . .

Olde worlde style pub, you don't see many of these any more as everything becomes pub-in-a-box to keep costs down. Not this place, it's retained its unique charm. The staff were very helpful and friendly and they had actually labelled a vegan ale on the bar (a very nice porter). From the look of the place I was at first sceptical that they would have vegan options, as every single pub like this that I've visited in the past has had a very bad attitude towards vegans. These guys have fully embraced the vegan options though! To have so many options available as a vegan, even a beer, was incredibly refreshing. We were very happy with our meal and the welcome we received. Would wholeheartedly recommend to anyone passing that way!

Having travelled to Malpas for an event over the weekend, we decided to eat at The Wheatsheaf Inn for our Tea. Having an awkward allergy means that food is often limited to me whenever eating out, and I always feel at a loss when I look at a menu, working out what is safe and what isn't. Upon mentioning my allergy, the staff at the Wheatsheaf went out of their way to make me an alternative to what was on the menu, without making an issue out of it at all. They cater for vegans, vegetarians, and have coeliac options as well, something I've never come across before in "local" pubs. We had a pizza (which was one of the best I've tried, this is serious home baked, thin and crispy, italian style pizza with a MASSIVE range of topping options and definitely something for everyone). Then a broccoli and stilton soup, which came with a doorstop wedge of bread which was mighty soft, and the soup was lovely to eat on its own, but also came with a ramekin full of delicate cubes of stilton, to add to flavour as strong as I liked. We liked the food that much, we ate there for Dinner on the Saturday, before returning home that night. This time, I opted for a Goats cheese bruschetta, which came with salad and chips, and again, they managed to cater for my needs, without a fuss being made. We dined with a large group, and all the food was to the same stunning standard, despite our large varying order. The staff were all friendly and welcoming from the moment we arrived, and always on hand should you need anything. Thank you for two amazing meals and being so accomodating for our varying needs. Will definitely be back if we pass back through Malpas again.

I have visited this place a few times now and get tingles just thinking abou the food! the Lady in the kitchen is a master and that always helps. The staff are warm, welcoming and most of all for a person who has food issues very accommodating :)I love the area the place is situated, it is very green and the backyard provides apple space for a mass grouping of people. We held an event there for approximately 25+ people; the food was marvellous and they weren't phased by the demands of Gluten- free, no tomatoes etc In addition they had provided a huge marquee for our benefit ~:)It has become our favourite place even though we are 30 minutes out :)

I love this little pub, it's the best, always had a lovely meal here, lots of choice and variety especially on veggi, vegan and gluten free. The owners couldn't be more accommodating and go out of their way to make sure you have a good meal and evening there. They are very friendly and helpful, I have been back so many times now and it's quite a drive away for us but worth it. A fab little pub with amazing staff and beautiful surroundings and a lovely little beer garden :-) 5 stars!!!

The Wheatsheaf Inn is a hidden jem just off the A41. I have dined there on a couple of occasions with friends and we found it to be a nice cosy place with comfortable seating, and friendly staff. The meals are excellent value and cooked to perfection in a nice timely manner. They cater for all pallets with an excellent menu including vegetarian, vegan, and gluten free options too. I can honestly say that it is one of the nicest restaurants in Cheshire and definitely worth a visit ... Highly recommended :-)

I visited the Wheatsheaf yesterday, it was my first time in this part of the country. The views are amazing i would definately recommend this establishment as a venue, the service was very efficient and friendly. We were a large party and were served our meals all at the same time. The food was lovely and fresh with plenty of garnish at the side, i did ask what the dressing contained in the falafel wrap and was treated with respect by the waiter, who had good knowledge and let me know what it contained. i have read some of the existing reviews on here and wonder if it is the same pub, if so it has greatly improved and would urge those customers to visit again to see how much they have taken your comments on board and update your review. I would definitely visit here again. :)

My husband and I had our lunch here today and I have to say what a little gem this pub is! Hidden away from the main road it offers vegetarian, vegan and all types of dietry requirements. The food was hot and very tasty, the beef was tender and cooked to perfection and the staff were happy, kind and thoughtful. We have been before and although not local to us, we will be going again and again! Thankyou everyone at The Wheatsheaf, you are stars!

I came here for lunch with my wife to meet up with my brother and his husband, who were travelling down to the South West from Liverpool. When I booked the table and mentioned that my wife was disabled and a wheelchair user, I was able to discuss in detail the best way into the pub for her in her wheelchair, which was very helpful. When we arrived for our meal, the staff were very friendly, and also very happy to oblige with cooking the vegetables extra soft for my wife, who has difficulty chewing, and with getting French mustard for my brother's husband. The food (a traditional Sunday roast) was delicious and also very reasonably priced. For dessert, I had home made ice cream sundae with berries, which was also lovely.I would highly recommend this pub & restaurant for a lovely country pub atmosphere, great food at a very good price, and lovely friendly service too.

It's very difficult for pubs to make money these days and although the staff were very pleasant it was clear they were being paid to 2.30 and not beyond, and I suppose it's understandable. Still, the beer was good and coffee fine. 11 us after a footpath inspection in the area...perhaps needing a little longer than the 15 mins we were allowed. It's the flexible ones that survive...note this owners. Brilliant to see other community stuff the pub was doing especially the local meals on wheels service...fantastic...keep at it! We will be back, but will walk quicker!

Came here for my birthday after being recommended it from another vegan. Good job we booked a table as was fully booked. Food was amazing, and I was so so happy to see a wide range of vegan foods, it's such a nice change to see vegans being catered for. I had a sharing platter to start, and the mushroom and red pepper stroganoff. My boyfriend had a veggie pizza. They also cater for coeliacs and meat eaters as well. My only disappointment was being too full for pudding but we are coming again next week for my partners birthday because we enjoyed it so much. I work in a vegan grab and go food bar in Chester and I'm telling all my customers about the wheatsheaf :) thanks!

After searching on the internet for vegan food in the Cheshire area, to my delight I was pointed in the direction of The Wheatsheaf Inn. My friend and I had a special trip out to sample the vegan food on offer and I was not disappointed. It was nice to have simple home cooked vegan food in a proper pub without having to go to specialist restaurants / cafes. The bar staff were very knowledgeable and pointed me in the direction of the vegan wine. I really enjoyed my meal, it's just a shame that I was too full for a desert! I will definitely be visiting again and will make sure that I save room for desert next time!

Had a pleasant vegan meal at the Wheatsheaf. Although there is a vegan section to the menu and we'd heard there was even a vegan handpull beer on, the bar staff seemed not to be very clued up. We started with creamy garlic mushrooms which was very nice. One of us then had cous-cous fritters which weren't at all good - very bland. The other main was fajitas which was good. All the dishes came with cheezly vegan cheese which isn't great - there are much better options easily available. Dessert was sorbet with mini jaffa cakes. The jaffa cakes were as hard as rocks. The sorbet was lovely. It was great that there was a vegan porter on tap which we enjoyed.

Having found one of our favourite pub restaurants had closed we were in need of somewhere nearby for Sunday lunch.By chance we remembered that there was a pub signposted from the A41 along our route home and not too far before the diabetic problems began. The Wheatsheaf was a bit hard to spot at first, but well worth it as the welcome was warm, the beer well kept and the food very good.Being Sunday we were offered a choice of roasts as well as the usual menu and opted for the pork, which was nicely cooked and accompanied by a good selection of vegetables. The staff were pleasant and helpful throughout our visit. We also noted that they do vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options if requested.

My friend and I were coming to the end of a 2 day hike of the Sandstone Trail and needed somewhere for lunch that wasn't too far from the trail. At this point we had been walking for a day and a half and were tired and hungry. I rang ahead to make sure they would still be serving food and to enquire as to whether our black lab would be welcome. The usual answer is that it's not a dog pub but Anthony, the owner, took pity on us as we sounded so weary! We were made to feel so welcome from the minute we arrived and the food was fantastic value, home made, proper pub food. I had the pie of the day and my friend had lasagne. We absolutely inhaled it and then ordered pud too! Emma is the cook, and Anthony's wife, and they make a great team. If you're ever en route between Chester and Whitchurch, this place is definitely worth seeking out. I notice that they've started offering a home delivery service too - this sounds like a great idea to me, home cooked meals on the nights you're busy rather than reaching for a micro ready meal - wish I lived nearer!

I came with a Christmas party (sorry, a bit late leaving this review!) with a large group and this was the first time I have visited. I had a bit of trouble finding it but only because I dont know the area and it was a dark rainy night.I had a really tasty vegetarian meal, but was also spoiled for choice by many other items on the menu. It was good to see a some different meals, rather than the same vegetarian options.Great atmosphere too. Look forward to returning.

We used this pub as a meeting point for ourselves and children. They came from Liverpool, we came from Telford. Our first impression was a very old pub. We checked the menu out. There were some very appetising meals. We had a choice of gluten free or veggie if we required them. Most of the items on the menu are homemade (including the deserts). We ordered. Our son had a pizza, which was made to order (gluten free base). It was so tasty. Our daughter had a veggie meal, which she thoroughly enjoyed. My husband and myself had a more traditional pub meal which was also very much enjoyed. The food was faultless. Beautiful. The cost really good. The people, staff and customers very friendly. OK we had a wait for our meals, but it really was worth it.The Wheatsheaf Inn is a hidden gem!

We were having a family meal to celebrate an 85 birthday. We have two vegans in the family and all too often they are restricted to chips and salad with black drinks. At The Wheatsheaf Inn there was a great menu for them to choose from as well as interesting non-vegan fare.Vegan milk to tea, vegan cheese for pizza and cheesy garlic bread and vegan custard on vegan pie gives a flavour of how welcome they felt. In fact, much of the rest of our party enjoyed excellent vegetarian food as a change from meat dishes. The staff were really, really lovely. We will be back and ahead of our visit will ask if vegan versions of Lemon Drizzle cake, Jaffa cakes and Bakewell Tart could be on the menu as we know they would be fantastic. The pub is easy to find - get there as soon as you can....

We had been talking about visiting the Wheatsheaf because they advertise gluten free dishes but did not get around to it until our neighbour handed us a menu after lunching there recently and at the same time our kitchen was out of action. We live only a short distance away. We liked the atmosphere immediately we walked in as the locals enjoying a drink around the bar smiled and greeted us. My husband ordered the chicken frajitas and I ordered a pizza with five toppings. The dishes did take some time to arrive but they were worth waiting for. My pizza was at least 12" in diameter on a lovely thin base with a generous amount of toppings taken right to the end of the pizza - it looked like a jewelled platter with all the colours of the toppings. The frajitas dish was just as generous and my hubby really enjoyed it. His first ever g/f frajitas. At least he finished his whereas I bought half my pizza home in a doggy box. The staff were friendly and we would highly recommend the Wheatsheaf especially if you need an early meal.

Visited on a Sunday evening. Pub quiet. Handpull bitter perfectly drinkable. However, we ordered food and had to wait for over 45 minutes for 4 x steaks and a couple of roast platters. The barmaid who took our order was very attentive and helpful. Now for the really disappointing bit. Food was absolutely awful. Rare steaks cold, chips covered in grease, roast dinners more like something out of a seventies school canteen. Certainly wouldn't go again.

We were staying nearby for the weekend, we don't know the area. Chose The Wheatsheaf Inn based on Tripadvisor reviews and were very pleased with our choice. I visited here last Sunday with a group of 12 cyclists on recommendation from one of the group. A fabulous little old pub serving home made good food for ridiculously low prices. A perfect size portion of scampi, chips & peas, ice cream & tea or coffee for. £3.50!! It was nice not to be over-faced and leave half a meal for once & 6 scampi is plenty. Others had the beef dumpling stew & mushroom stroganoff with rice and all said their meals were good. Even the drinks were cheap - a pint of cordial for 40p - where can you get that? The owner was very welcoming as were the staff & even though busy, didn't mind taking group photos for us.

We visited after coming across a sign on the road saying vegan and vegetarians and coeliacs and meat eaters welcome and boy we where not disappointed. As a recent veggie ive been let down by most places however this was a welcome breath of fresh air.Such a varied choice, super friendly staff. Home cooked delicious meals and not expensive either!! Lovely lunch time menu of 2 meals for £10. . . . I chose the houmous veggie wrap with home cooked chips and fresh salad and my hubby decided on a tuna melt with chips and salad..both delicious and piping hot we ate in the beer garden in the back. Lovely clean space with shaded areas or sunny ones. The kids chose a cheesey veggie wrap with curly fries that my 5yr old vegetarian daughter thoroughly enjoyed as she goto assemble it herself *vegan cheese available too.And my eldest *carnivore lol. Had a lovely fresh dough pizza made using delicious fresh ingredients topped with bacon and yummy cheese.Best meal out ive had since becoming vegetarian and nice to see some companies realising not all vegetarians just want either a jacket spud or omelette! I want proper home fresh food nicely presented and more than two options on a menu....this place ticks all the boxes.Only downside is it stops serving food at 2pm so get there early, it does however close 3pm and open again later for evening food/drinks x suppose due to being in a quiet village. Will definitely return despite being an hrs drive away from home!

Called in on Saturday 3rd May. Explained to the barman that we were in a hurry and what could he suggest we had to eat that wouldn't take long to prepare. He was amazing he got the Chef to come and speak to us (Us being two). She was lovely and we decided on a chicken and tomato sandwich with mayo. It came with a little salad and crisps. We are amazed, it took a little longer than we thought to arrive, but my goodness me when it did come it was well worth the wait. It was presented beautifully, the chicken was warm, the bread was fresh, it was delicious. We wished we had had more time to sit and soak up the atmosphere and savour the food. We were full when we came out and completely satisfied - didn't need anything else to eat all day. Absolutely fantastic - can't compliment it enough. Well done to everyone at The Wheatchief

We had the most delicious meal here yesterday. A lovely little country pub, hidden away in the sleepy village of No Mans Heath. I heard about it through friends who told me that they specialise in vegetarian meals. I am a veggie and fed up with the usual offering at restaurants (often a minimal choice) of cheese pasta, veg risotto and boring stuff like that which I can rustle up quite easily and better myself. The veggie menu here is as big as the meat one and so varied! I chose the puff pastry with squash, asparagus and walnuts and topped with halloumi. Sooooo tasty. We will definitely go again. We loved the old country pub feel with the locals enjoying a drink at the bar too. Definitely worth a visit.
