Great meal, good service and didn't get ripped off

Arrived at 7:35 on Saturday night, there were people in the dining area and some tables available. Waited at the sign by the door as instructed but no one came so moved up to the bar and asked a young staff member if they were serving food and had a table for two. The staff member shouted another member of staff who said no. As it was relatively early for a Saturday I asked what time their kitchen stopped serving. The young staff member again had to call to ask the other member of staff what time, who shouted back 7:30. It clear was a decision was just made by the staff member as the young member of staff didn't have a clue. We found the place unfriendly and cold. Went to the Ring O' Bells in Christleton who could not have been more welcoming and the food was delicious there.

Our party of 5 plus a new baby really enjoyed our Mother's Day meal at the Shrewsbury Arms. The staff, especially Amelia, went out of their way to make sure that we were all comfortable, took orders in a friendly and timely manner and delivered delicious food to us. Took the grandweans for Saturday lunch - absolutely first class!! The food (steak pie) was perfect and the children’s menu and portions were sublime. Service was smiley, swift and welcoming and the restaurant has a lovely feel about it - homey, warm and just very pleasant. The dessert prices do make your eyes water, but once in a while you have to treat yourself don’t you?? That gripe apart, we had a lovely meal and a grand time. The real ales on offer are superb and Laura always goes the extra mile to make sure you are served properly, happy with everything and well looked after. Couldn’t fault it and will happily go back any time. Eaten here many times over the past 10 years and never once been disappointed. Think that says it all 👍

Visited with my family last night basically to try this place out again because I use to be a regular but after a few awful meals I decided to give it a miss, but I have a 60th birthday coming up for which I want as many guests as possible attending and I thought I would give the Shrewsbury another try and to be fair it was as diar as it has been the last few times I chanced a visit, it took approximately 50 minutes for our meal to arrive and mine had a child's portion of chips with it , when I asked for a some more I was told THE KITCHEN said that it would be extra because it was the normal portion, also the gammon I ordered was over cooked and cold . Shame because the KITCHEN, has just cost this place a birthday bash of approx 60 guest's

I have visited here several times over the last few months. I love it in here - nice atmosphere and really lovely and friendly staff. However, it’s their cheese and onion pie that is the star - love it! See you again soon.

Had lunch there. Service really quick. Had a tuna sandwich. It was delicious, and plenty of filling

Went for valentines day which we saw advertised on the Internet as £50 for 3 course for 2 people plus 2 glasses of prosecco and it wasn't on! When we queried we were told the chef knew nothing about it and it wasn't on this year!. I showed the young waiter the website and that it was definitely this year and mothers day was also advertised for 10th March, to which he couldn't understand why the valentines meal had appeared on there too! Had to order off the regular menu which was very nice but we came away very disappointed that we didn't get the valentines meal that we expected.

Excellent food and service..the fish pie is to die for..pure heavan.

I found it quite hard to digest the fillet chicken burger. It was too over cooked and burnt on the edges. I put extra mayo on it so I could digest it easier. I don't like to complain due to my anxiety. But I wouldn't want this to happen to anyone else.Everything else was ok.

I could live here how cosy this pub is :), our food was unfortunately average but the staff very friendly and welcoming.

Went for Christmas lunch.Which we have done 4 out of 5 years. Always been lovely. This one very disappointing. Pate to start with Burnt Toast. Then Roast dinner with burnt roast potatoes. The trifle was ordered as cheese cake. Overall very disappointed. Was asked on leaving if everything was fine explained and wasn't even given a sorry. Only to find the price had gone up to £85 per head

Sunday dinner is a sharing platter with a great choice of meats.

Food only review following lunch with a group. Tasteless, fatty beef, hard Yorkshire pudding resembled a shell, bland veg and seriously disappointing cheesecake. Staff worked hard. Unable to recommend.

Really good Sunday nut roast. Catered for gf and vegetarians.

I was very disappointed with the festive menu. I had the turkey dinner, the roast potatoes were hard and very hard to cut, so I left those. The stuffing was like glue and had an awful taste, so I left that. The service was slow. The staff were pleasant though. It was a pre-booked meal for 25. So very dissatisfied. Sorry!!

Really lovely, with friendly staff. Food was really good (I definitely recommend the fish pie.) We visited at a really quiet time, so we were seated right away. Sadly we didn't have time to sample the desserts 🥺. Looking forwards to visiting again, and staying a bit longer. (For dessert 😉)

I came here with friends for a Sunday Lunch. The food was great and Cheesy Broccoli was amazing. The staff were very friendly. The service was fast at the start but because we were at the back part down the stairs, we felt a bit forgotten sometimes.

This is a nice pub with a good kitchen and an experienced chef., but the interior needs a lift, an upgrade in that area would bring it to 5star level.

Lovely place good food great atmosphere

What an amazing meal and a great atmosphere. We went as a group of four and had the platter sunday roast, each of us ordered a different meat and there was plenty of vegetables too. Excellent value as the more of you order the cheaper it becomes. Compliments to the chef for an excellent meal.

Their Sunday roasts are to die for! Be sure to order the mixed-meats platter option to share and a cauliflower cheese and mash on the side. You won't find a better Sunday roast, for miles. We've tried.

We were looking for somewhere to stop for lunch and came upon this little pub. It is set in nice surroundings and inside was welcoming too. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the menu was just enough to not frazzle our heads, there was also a vegetarian/ vegan menu available which made the wife happy. The food was lovely and at a good price.

Sunday lunch platter is the best .

Rude!!! Only popped in for swift drink which was fine. Served by lovely polite girl behind bar. We looked around for somewhere to sit(was empty tables everywhere) and was told by the rude older lady (possibly in charge)that if we weren’t eating “go through there”!! To which were 3 couches already occupied. Shocking!! Had drinks and went. The older lady was at the entrance on computer to where to greet people n didn’t even have decency to even acknowledge our custom?

First time at this establishment. I was impressed with everything. This is from parking to the food and service. Ok, this was a funeral but was a very welcoming place and everybody seemed to be happy and enjoying themselves even though it was a sad occasion. Could not fault the place. Well done all the staff. 😁🍻

Came across it on the way home from Chester Zoo (avoiding motorways). Hadn't booked but they found a table for the five of us. Went for the Sunday roast for five which came as a meat platter in the middle of the table, loads of veggies and some gravy boats. Whole clan thoroughly enjoyed the food, which is a rarity! Nice location and great staff, hopefully be back again.

Popped in Sunday afternoon, bank Holiday weekend, we hadn't booked a table but they fitted us in no problem, beautiful food ,great friendly staff, reasonably priced, excellent place

My wife and I went for a family birthday Sunday Lunch. Some of our Family were delayed on the M56. This was no problem for the staff. They looked after us well. We had a great time when all the Family were all eventually together. Servicr was good and Food was exceptional. Well done to all the staff who made our Family occasion so special. Yes we would recommend this place to others!!

Food was excellent and so was the service just took a little long for it to come out but was worth the wait ...highly recommended

We stopped at a campsite a 5 min walk away and decided to book a meal and were not dissapointed. Fantastic pub, great food and all staff very very accommodating and friendly. Very dog friendly too. We had the dirty burgers and bought a kids pizza meal all of which were generous portion sizes and tasted good. Deserts were great too we reccomend the kebab desert wow ! Good choice of beers too. We left feeling very full and relaxed. If we end up in the area again we will definitly make sure we call in for some food.

We are on holiday from Aberdeen and were staying at Elm Cottage down the road. We ended up here for dinner our first night and the food was great! We had nachos and some beer battered cauliflower to start with a lasagne and chicken in a basket to follow along with 3 kids meals. The weather was nice so we sat outside in the garden and the kids got to run around and see the chickens, geese and alpacas that lived next door. The food was all fresh and hot and tasty! Just how pub food should be! The staff are all so wonderful! Really polite, friendly and up for a laugh. They were also so accommodating for the kids too! We decided to rebook for our last night. Again the food was just perfect. Mushroom soup. Battered courgettes. Sunday roast. Loaded burger. Couldn’t finish the mains as it’s just too much food! Great service again and the atmosphere is just so chilled and relaxed. Thank you so much for making us all feel welcome! Please if you are in the area give this wee pub a try!

We’ve visited this pub before while staying at Elm Cottage, remembering how welcoming and friendly it was we returned again this visit. We knew the pub can get busy so booked a table for Friday night and also Sunday night for food. Great menu to choose from and it changes on a weekly basis, which is amazing. Great selection of real ales and lagers. Food was amazing on both nights as were the staff, very friendly, nothing is too much trouble for them. Lovely restaurant, if weather is good you can also eat outside, they have a great sized beer garden. The pub is also dog friendly too, which is a bonus especially if you want a meal out and have pooches. The pub also has some pitches at the back of the site, with electric hook up and a smart shower and toilet block. We have pre booked to stay here the next time we go away. Looking forward to our next visit.

Stayed here for a night on the campsite just behind the pub. Great facilities including showers and toilets. Grass was well kept and some animals on site including ducks and alpacas and horses on the next field. We went into the pub for a meal, had 3 courses for a great price. Felt so full after our main so the waitress made our desert available to take away. Staff were so friendly and couldn’t help enough. Nice chilled atmosphere and will definitely be returning when we can.

We stayed on the caravan park behind the pub, which we didn’t realise they had. We had popped in for a bite to eat at lunchtime and enquired about it and we booked onto the park for a weekend away. It was amazing !!! The staff are really friendly and the food is delicious. The site is clean and well maintained and the added bonus of alpacas nearby. Definitely going there again. Can’t wait !!!! Got to give the barman ash a mention a very knowledgeable guy and helpful too. Keep up the good work !!!! 👍

Advertises food served until 8:30, but they close the kitchen at 7pm Twice now we have turned up at 7:30 only to be turned away. Not a good way to treat customers. Edit. 30/05/23 Tried to book a table for 7:30pm as recommended by the Shrewsbury Arms response to this post. Last table booking allowed is 7pm. Not only is their website incorrect, their response to this post was incorrect....

Can't comment on the food as haven't eaten. Drink prices a bit on the steep side.

Ordered a Thai Red chicken curry, the curry that was served was your usual greeny brown, I questioned is this Red Thai curry and was told yes. The chicken curry was bland and tasteless, I've had better microwave meals. I informed a member of staff who said she would inform the Manager. No visit from the Manager. A course in customer service would be beneficial in this establishment. I did eat the meal, as I was hungry and my partner had already started his meal so I didn't want to wait and eat later. I won't be visiting this pub again.

£5.95 for a pint of Moretti and £4.20 for a pint of (flat) diet Coke!!! Absolute rip off. No wonder the place was dead. Certainly won’t be back.

My wife and I popped in for lunch today, having booked a table on line. What a pleasant experience. We were shown to our table by the waitress, who later took our order for drinks and choice of food. What a pleasant and efficient young lady. My lamb and my wife's fish pie came piping hot and was delicious, and what can I say about my choice of cream tea. *Brilliant!* We will definitely be back for the Afternoon Cream Tea very shortly. The consideration shown by the lady manager towards my wife on leaving, as she walks with the aid of a walker was beyond kindness. Thank you....

Our first visit here for a quick bite just outside of town. 6pm Sat night. Spacious carpark, the food was super tasty! Staff very nice and welcoming. Great selection of drinks, menu was spot on, definitely torn between a few options so another visit will be on the cards. Maybe music should be played quieter in that area, you can hear everyone's conversation clearly,I didn't hear the music till I was walking out.. overall 9/10. Always room for a little improvement, I would definitely recommend and look forward to my next visit. We had scampi and lasagne, very filling, the photos don't do it justice.

Had a room booked today for a wake that included the food. I have to say everything at the Shrewsbury Arms was absolutely amazing. I say that because the staff were wonderful and so helpful and accomodating and the food was absolutely amazing. There was more than enough for the attendies and it was lovely, tasty and fresh. All in all, a wonderful experience and I cannot recommend Laura and her team enough Thank you very much

Lovely place and food and friendly staff

Really enjoyed my Sunday lunch here, went with family and reasonably priced. Only thing I would say is that dependant upon time the can run out of certain meats, but this is only minor for me as the food is lovely.

Great traditional pub, The Sunday roasts were excellent. We had pork and lamb both were cooked beautifully and were served piping hot with roasties, Yorkshire pudding and veg, and plenty of gravy. We also ordered the cauliflower cheese and broccoli cheese to share again. Both were lovely. We had peach melba cheesecake and apple pie both served with ice cream to finish our meals. Could not fault the staff who were friendly, helpful, and polite. Definitely will return and recommend

Really good Sunday lunch platter for 2 and kids meals. The fact we could have all the meats on the roast platter was a bonus. Puddings were good too. Will definitely come back soon

Lovely food, efficient, friendly staff and a really cosy, warm atmosphere. Just what we needed after a cold and windy couple of hours trackside at Oulton Park. My family really enjoyed the roast dinners, chicken katsu curry and Lancashire rag pudding. Plenty of gravy for everyone and topped off with an excellent pint of Robbie's. Gorgeous puddings too for those of us who could fit one in! As others have said, a proper pub which unfortunately seems to be dying out in Britain. Thank you, hope to be back soon!

Lovely pub run by totally inept management. Booked a table for early Saturday evening only to be told that no booking had been recorded. When presented with evidence of booking was told by manageress that there was nothing they could do. As an exercise in public relations by an industry which constantly bemoans post pandemic hardship this attitude beggars belief. Take your hard earned cash elsewhere .

Lovely food and great service. Very reasonable prices.

We had 5 people put on a normal table of four, not a lot of room. The bench was wobbly and had to ask for cardboard to be put underneath it. The staff were polite and gave fast service. Food was quickly done and waited no longer than 20mins. All the dishes we had were fine apart from the veggie chilli was not hot and not tasty. Also, the burgers could be of better quality. The restaurant itself was clean, smelt fresh and nice atmosphere all round.

Excellent place to come . Sunday lunch unbelievable. Great value for money. Will definitely call again.

Came here for the Sunday lunch. They do it as a platter. Inasmuch the meat, the roast potatoes,yorkshire pudding are served on a platter plate, and you serve yourself . It comes with gravy and vegetables on separate plates Nice service and great idea.

Omg omg! went last night Brilliant. starters great portion.Had fried blackpudding wrapped in ham light fried in a crisp batter with poached goose egg on top! salad dressing! Amazeballs ! Great taste texture I need it again now gave me food shakes eating it, partner had creamy garlic mushrooms with garlic bread fab.Mains Steamed Lancashire beef rag pudding with lovely chips & peas & a boat of gravy on side all I can say is Yum too! Fab home cooked food brill.Staff Ace Proper local friendly pub feel. No aires & graces . wanted a pudding but couldn't fit it in. ILL BE BACK! Award winning best kept beer's pub too. Great garden camping & parking. what more do you need. Dog & Animal friendly. Alpacas on site too. Go everyone! food envy x

Lovely large pub with plenty of covers. Good selection of ales, friendly service and really nice menu of reasonably priced dishes. You'd be hard pressed not to find something you wanted to eat.

We came for Sunday lunch, which was very good. Plenty of choices of starters, desserts as well as mains Quick friendly service. Good Robinson's beer (I had Wizard). Unfortunately only a flying visit today, but enjoyed so much we booked to stay for a few days at the on-site caravan park, next month.

Lovely warm and welcoming pub wood burning stove and nice people. Food is good home cooked meals . Sunday lunch was very nice and good portions. Would advise to book as they get busy. We stayed in motorhome on site at back of pub so was very good to have food and drinks close by ash and Naomi are very good at customer service

As always a stunning welcome and fantastic food. Great staff. It really feels like a family when you return. We stay in our Motorhome on their camp site which is fantastic with great shower and toilet facilities.
