Stayed for two nights without booking first, we were made to feel very welcome and given the ground floor apartment which was really comfortable. The bar had a great atmosphere and food was excellent, a lovely small break, we will return for more.

Hi all, Many, many thanks to Andy and all the staff for the welcome given to us. Although it had been 44 years since we last stayed at the Wheatsheaf you all made our 2 night stay very special. The accommodation, although changed somewhat from 1980 was excellent, and the food was above and beyond what would be expected from a country pub. I would have no hesitation in recommending The Wheatsheaf to anyone wishing to explore the Yorkshire Dales safe in the knowledge that the welcome, accommodation and food at The Wheatsheaf is possible the best in Wensleydale. Once again many thanks-----and we WILL see you again. Kind regards. Colin & Chris Jones. Ludlow.

Have visited in past and food looked good so came back for lunch. Service was excellent as always, however was disappointing lunch, having ordered a prawn salad and chips, the salad was basically some leaves and a bit of chopped up items with prawns in bowl. Expected far better. Bit boring really and lacked what a good salad should be. A few more chips would not have went amiss. Probably a poor choice. Lovely place and people.

This weekend we came for a family meal for my mums 70th. There were 13 of us, a mixture of children and adults. We prebooked a table and preordered our food to try and make the meal as simple as possible for us and the staff. The communication from the start was fantastic. Polite and professional. They allowed us to take over the dining room which worked perfectly and even added birthday banners and hats etc for the occasion. the staff were so attentive. always checking we didnt need anymore drinks etc. my sister has a severe allergy and the manager spoke to her and went through all ingredients and recommended a different meal in the end but it was reassuring to know they had thought of everything. The food itself was fresh and very tasty. Thankyou so much, you made my mums birthday weekend complete and I would recommend to anyone.

Whilst holidaying in the village we called for a drink Saturday evening to book Sunday lunch. The pub was clean and bustling with most tables full with diners, a;ways a good sign. The barmaid arranged a table for us to have our drink and booked us in for the next day. The Sunday lunch is beef but the chef who was at the bar kindly offered to do a chicken breast instead for my son. Flip forward to Sunday lunch, there was plenty of it, not over facing just enough. The waitress topped up our gravy and brought plenty of carrots as they were my son’s favourite. As with the night before there was a lovely friendly atmosphere and the staff were attentive but not intrusive. We did give feed back that the beef was cut thickly and very tough. I had been given the end bit which was very hard. The waitress said she would feed this back to the chef. Hopefully the feedback will improve the tenderness of the beef in future and definitely would eat there again if in the area.

We visited this pub on the first night of our trip to Yorkshire and my husband, who is a vegetarian found the vegetarian/vegan menu to be very good. The staff went the extra mile to ensure we had a nice meal and the service was friendly and efficient. The young man at the bar also gave us a warm welcome on arrival. Last Sunday evening we needed a meal but hadn't booked and the pub was full. Many pubs would have dismissed us at that point but the manager went out of her way to try to accommodate us and we were were offered a table on the understanding we would vacate it by a certain time. As a result we again enjoyed a delicious light meal which suited us perfectly and we greatly appreciated the fact that we could get something to eat. This is a really lovely pub and we will certainly visit it again when we are next on holiday. Highly recommended.

Apologies to Luis for the tardiness of this review: Luis looked after us admirably and it is now over three weeks since our Friday lunchtime visit. We were extremely pleased with our experience at The Wheatsheaf: we hadn't eaten there since we lived locally in the 1990s and were meeting up with a dear friend from that time. We made the reservation on the strength of Tripadvisor reviews, and our food and service more than lived up to our expectations. We enjoyed the lasagne and the lamb special. Thank you to all staff concerned, and we hope to return before too long. Keep up the good work!

The Wheatsheaf is a lovely, friendly 'gastro' styled pub in a stunning part of the Yorkshire Dales. We elected to sit outside as the pub was experiencing a busier than expected lunchtime with good grace and good humour! The beer was top notch - an excellent pint. Food-wise, the sandwiches with side salad were good. The Steak and Ale pie was pleasant enough but effectively just a very liquid beef stew with a slice of, very nice mind you, short crust pastry. My chicken burger was supposed to be a grilled breast of chicken, however what I got was a pan fried chicken breast which was so dry I couldn’t eat it. The pulled pork burger didn’t even have a burger it was just a pulled pork sandwich. We booked a one night stay in the duplex suite for ourselves and our dog. Fantastic set up felt completely safe. Really good atmosphere all tables were filled. Dinner and breakfast was lovely, big portion sizes! Completely dog friendly ours joined us for dinner and breakfast! Great base for walking, we enjoyed a 5 mile stretch to Bolton castle and back. Our daughter got married at the castle bolton on the Saturday and not wanting to end our short holiday we decided to stay on another night, meeting family for an evening on the Sunday. The meal we had here was amazing and the staff - who both cooked and served us - was lovely. The best fish I have tasted in a while. Thank you to the one lady/owner as I'm afraid I didn't catch her name. Everyone in the bar was really friendly too.

Excellent! We were staying in another village as drove here for an evening meal, having checked the flooding would not stop us arriving. Everything was a delight- staff, food, surroundings. We will certainly be back and plan to stay over.

Had two meals here while staying in the area. On both evenings we were very pleased with the quality of the food they served, and good size portions. The staff were friendly and polite. We would eat here again when in the area. Well done to all the staff.

We enjoyed our meals here. On the Saturday night we ate in the dining area and the service was excellent and friendly. I had the grilled cod with a plentiful selection of vegetables and my husband had the steak and ale pie (which a customer recommended) which he said was excellent, homemade with plenty of meat. I had the vegetarian curry the night before which wasn't the tastiest I had eaten, but my husband's scampi and chips was excellent. On our next visit, I will keep to the traditional items on the menu.

This is a great pub and well worth a visit If you’re in the area. We visited twice whilst on a weeks holiday in the Dales. The first time was an unscheduled stop as the pub was on a walking route we were following. Our boots and clothing were covered in mud and our dogs were filthy so despite the pub welcoming dogs we sat outside. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t do enough for us, they told us we were welcome inside despite the state of our clothing/dogs. We decided to stay outside and ordered two sandwiches and drinks, the food was great and very reasonably priced. We were so happy after our first visit we went back a day later for an evening meal. The food was excellent (good honest pub food). The service was again great and the staff very welcoming.

Dropped in for lunch whilst walking in the Dales. Food was fantastic, we had the sharing platter followed by the chocolate cheesecake and treacle sponge, all of which we can thoroughly recommend. The staff were friendly and welcoming. When we are in the area again we will be sure to make a return visit to this truly wonderful authentic pub.

Turned up ad hoc for a meal and were made very welcome. Lovely roast dinner and veg. Great atmosphere and sensible pub-grub menu: just the ticket!

We visited here after reading some encouraging reviews and noting that “booking is essential for food”, we thought it would be a safe bet while we were in the area. Unfortunately, the 2 stars are for service along as the bar staff were very polite and helpful. They are also dog friendly which is a bonus. Other than that, the food was not impressive. We had the Sunday roast and the beef tasted of poor quality, and vegetables were not seasoned and lacked flavour. The cabbage served with the meal was pickled which wasn’t what we expected. We were still hungry afterwards but didn’t want to waste any more money on desert in case it was more of the same. The decor is very tired and the place does lack atmosphere unfortunately. We didn’t drink alcohol but they have a wide variety of ales to choose from behind the bar. We won’t be returning, sadly!

Could not recommend enough! Staff are so friendly and welcoming. They make sure to go above and beyond for customers, making sure you have everything you need. Decor is absolutely fabulous and not to forget they grow their own fresh ingredients, you don’t get a better experience than that. Food is 10/10 so flavourful, definitely will be returning.
