We visited for dinner and had a wonderful experience. It started with a game of pool and darts in the bar area, tastefully decorated in a nostalgic 1930’s style. Then we sat in the comfortable sitting room with great books and an amazing view. Then onto dinner, generous portions, friendly staff, more amazing views, and grooves music. All the time our hired Tesla was charging outside. Fantastic.

Steer clear of this establishment; not only is the service nonexistent, but you're also greeted with the waiter's bad breath. The seafood platter we ordered was disappointing, with low-quality salmon cuts, poorly cleaned mussels, subpar hummus, and just four crackers. We were served water glasses that appeared unwashed, adding to the overall disgust with this establishment.

Four of us ate here on a Tuesday night. My husband had the beef burger and I had the chicken burger. My husband's dessert was the brownie and rest of us shared the cheese board. The food and drinks were nice. Service was prompt. One issue: The chairs have square pads on a round seat. The pad is too wide so it kept sliding sideways.

Amazing hotel, fantastic staff, wonderful food!! Hotel is at the top of the hill overlooking Tobermory bay. We dodged all the bad weather happening on the mainland and arrived in glorious sunshine and had 3 days of perfect weather. When checking in the lady at reception gave us the Macallan room on the third floor. No lift available so lots is stairs to get there, but what a view!! The room itself was huge and the shower room was a decent size with great shower. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The TV is small and because of the size of the room it was hard to watch so we didn’t bother with it, the view of the bay was more than enough to compensate. Every member of staff was helpful and smiling and honestly couldn’t do enough for us. We had dinner on the first night and I had the Isle of Mull scallops with black pudding crumb, apple purée and lemon dill for starter and had the chicken burger with smoked bacon, melted Brie and cranberry relish for mains. My partner had the Island crab linguine with roasted garlic, rocket & fresh mint (starter size) and also Pumpkin and sage tortellini (also starter size). For dessert she had the sticky toffee pudding with puff candy, toffee sauce and vanilla ice cream which she said was the best she had ever had. The food was just spectacular. Overall we had a great time here and would definitely be back. 100% recommend.

We were lucky enough to book in for dinner one night on our trip to Tobermory. Our own hotel restaurant left a lot to be desired. Immediately as you enter the hotel it feels light and welcoming. We were greeted by a waiter who was lovely (would have been better if he’d not be chewing gum) and seated at our table. We were immediately brought bread and provided with the menus. The view was fantastic of the harbour. The restaurant has so many windows so you really do get a good view. My mum and I both ordered the same main and were happy with what we received. The only issue was that the fish portion was really quite small. Overall a lovely evening. If we were to return to Tobermory we would definitely try to stay at this hotel.

Just struggling a little to understand why there are bad reviews for this restaurant My wife and I dined here twice last week (the first time at short notice) and on both occasions the food was very good and well presented by knowlegeable, courteous staff. Both food and drinks seemed sensibly priced to us but the crowning glory was the stunning view overlooking Tobermory Harbour and the distant Sound of Mull. Our two visits were the highlight of our week in Tobermory.

This was a return visit for us after a nearly thirty year hiatus. The hotel was for many years allied with Best Western, but is now totally independent. Our room was spacious and had a great view of the Tobermory harbor and the approaches from the sea. Our food was very good, especially the scallops, which were sourced locally and were perhaps the best I have ever eaten. The only potential drawback was the lack of an elevator, which seemed to unsettle elderly guests attempting to lug heavy suitcases. We knew this in advance and opted to only bring in small bags with essentials.

I took my partner here for a special treat. We got a fabulous table by the window and were very impressed by the view. Our starters were fine, if on the pricey side but that was OK, we knew it was an upmarket joint. However the mains were hugely disappointing. The chef's take on aubergine parmigiana - usually a succulent, cheesy dish - was a tiny, dry vegetable kebab with a couple of slices of aubergine interspersed with some other vegetable and one thin slice of mozzarella, sitting in a pool of tomato sauce. There may have been a couple of eerie wisps of salad on the plate too. Costing £18, I ate it in under two minutes. I could forgive a deconstructed take on a classic Italian dish were it creative and tasty but this was one of the most disappointing eating experiences of my life and I actually felt trolled by the chef given the ingredients cannot have cost more than a couple of pounds and the execution was so dire.My partner's hake - monkish was off - wasn't a whole fish, but a small portion of a fillet with a disc of potato and root vegetables and samphire. It may have served as a starter but as a main for £22 it was neither substantial nor impressive.Like fools, we didn't complain but equally nobody asked us how our meal was during or afterwards hence this review. With drinks our bill was over £100 and I have to say I felt like a mark paying it. The owners and chefs cannot believe these mains are acceptable - it feels like they are seeing how much they can cut costs and get away with it. We were not expecting a pub lunch but one does expect to feel slightly satiated after two courses. We went down to the harbour afterwards for some fish and chips as we were so hungry and vowed to leave a warning for others. Proceed with caution!

On the basis of good reviews we booked dinner in the spectacular conservatory restaurant. Alas that was all we got.My wife chose scallops which she had to send back as they were cold. I chose haggis and black pudding bonbons which were as exciting as the tastless whisky cream sauce. We both chose the lamb one medium and one well done. Both plates were identical with tough slices of lamb in a glutinous 'red wine jus' served with lukewarm unminted mash and limp broccoli. Both were returned to the kitchen and nobody other than the poor waitress appearing to apologise. We left shortly afterwards having drunk our glasses of wine from miniature bottles never shown to us. To cap it all and make us really feel welcome the staff were resetting the empty tables ready for breakfast at 8pm!Surely anybody can do better than this.

Spectacular view, nice atmosphere - sadly that’s the best of it! Our waitress was very rude. Half the wines were missing from the menu, langoustines also missing - then when we ordered olives, she simply said “No.” So they were out of those too, it seems? No large bottles of sparkling water either. We also asked for a tad more time to decide on our order and she came back literally 30 seconds later and asked if we were done yet, very strange; we were clearly still deciding.Could have been saved by some decent food, but the gnocchi was utterly tasteless, sweet potato fries were soggy and wildly undercooked, and fish and chips frankly average. Didn’t stay for dessert. Cocktails looked good so would recommend you go for a drink and enjoy the view!Much better food elsewhere in Mull.

After years of visiting Mull we tried the restaurant/bar for the very first time. Booking on phone great, friendly welcome and great drinks on the amazing terrace. Starter and mains excellent quality and presentation. The menu also has wide choice and we had a wonderful spot in conservatory to take in the place.Taking in to account its start of season, and there’s a lot of new stuff staff need to deal with I do understand it’s awkward, so for us it would have been a great evening if I got asked for drinks during meal, that I got to order dessert (I really wanted cheese even at £12 but settled for cheddar at our house), and had final drinks (really wanted another Negroni) before I got bored waiting to pay having stood behind staff at the till so walked to reception to pay. All staff were busy so I hope this is down to conditions cos I’d have liked to spend more. Next time I hope.Great that dogs are welcome but they should be on a lead nr the table of the owner as two were; this consideration excluded the chap who walked around seemingly like he owned the place (if he does then I guess his dog can wander wherever it wants) - I say this as a dog owner and one aware of others potential fears, cleanliness and consideration. Or perhaps some guests are more influential than others.

We had booked a table a week or so before arriving in Mull. On arriving at the Hotel for dinner, the man on reception asked us to provide track and trace details by using the QR code. As we hadn't done this before it took us several minutes and the receptionist did not offer any help. He then directed us to the restaurant where we spoke to a waiter who said he did not have any tables available (despite us having pre-booked) and suggested we eat in the bar. We refused as we wanted to be in main dining room in the conservatory. We agreed to wait in the bar until a table was ready but as we walked through the restaurant, we saw an empty table for four and asked if we could have that. The waiter looked surprised and said yes, so clearly there was a table available all along! We were pleasantly surprised by the food but the service left so much to be desired it quite spoilt our experience. The staff did not seem to be interested in the guests. One exception was the one young woman who was waiting on (the rest were men) and she was at least friendly and willing to help. The conservatory has a wonderful view and this could be a first class dining experience if only someone would train the staff to be pleasant, helpful and courteous.

We stayed in a self-catering cottage in Salen but had decided to eat at Western Isles Hotel on our last night to treat ourselves. Upon entering the building there is a hands free sanitiser and a temperature machine to use which was extremely professional and we hadn't seen one in all of our travels! The Conservatory has beautiful views of the sea and Tobermory, it was truly beautiful to sit in there and admire the view. The tables had been spaced out for social distancing and staff we all wearing visors and were extremely professional. It was the first time we had eaten in the Western Isles Hotel and the food was delicious, especially the lobster and the scallops. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to my friends and family. Keep up with the good work, we will be back!

We ate in restaurant just once. Disappointing and expensive. We ate in town for other evening meals.

After reading bad reviews we went here with trepidation but didn't need to worry as we had a fantastic meal served by friendly staff especially the Australian lady, we enjoy it so much we went back for our last day of the holiday and received more good food and lovely service. Medium rare steaks were cooked to perfection. Lovely restaurant view when daylight would be excellent but this time of year saw Tobermory Bay's twinkling lights, which were pretty anyway.

Saw the hotel from the harbour so made the trip up the hill in the hope the bar was open... It was, and although we were the only folks there in the conservatory, but the views are spectacular and it was lovely. Had a look at the Whisky menu whilst I was there and there was one on there that was nearly £2K... WOW.

The food was good and well presented but it would have been so much improved if it had been served piping hot on warm plates. Also if sole is described on the menu as pan-fried it should be! Two of us had it and it had never been near a pan; the skin was wet.The situation is beautiful and we had a window table which was ideal. However there was a noisy table of young people and perhaps the noise could be minimised if there were blinds on the conservatory roof.

We had left booking a restaurant on a friday night to the last minute (bad idea) however we managed to get in here. It had mixed reviews, however our experience was very positive, they found us a table which was lovely and it was very spacious, the food and the service was very good albeit a bit slow. it shows that you should give a place a chance, the building and decor was very nice too

In the main our visit was pleasant . The hotel is in a great situation, with stunning views.. Our room had been upgraded and was tiny but nice. on the this floor with no lift However, the rest of the hotel is old and in many areas shabby. The owners dogs roam free and sit on most of the chairs in the Lounge. The main issue was the total disregard for friendly service from the front desk person. On arrival at around 1330 we were told the rooms were not available and to and come back at 3 o'clockin a very brusk manner. This individual was in the main indifferent to customers, often absent and rude. Other young members of staff try hard to overcome the lack of direction and lack training in the basics. Unable the make a simple cocktail or Liquor coffee .In addition on both nights of our stay Menu selections in the restaurant were unavailable. The £160/night room rate is at least £50 overpriced for a hotel this standard. Faulty Towers is alive and well and living in Tobermory

First the positives: the restaurant has the most amazing view across the Sound of Mull and on a beautiful evening it can't be faulted. It is also very dog friendly and generally the food was nice (although the menu is a bit limited). Beware the avocado & prawns - no avocado! (we weren't the only ones to point this out and in fairness the hotel didn't charge us for this after we objected). But the service! First, when we booked, we asked for a table by the window but weren't given one even though a couple seemed to be free. Second the head waiter was a disaster! He said he had only just started working there but he didn't know a starter from a main, he gave the food to the wrong people, he didn't remember the drinks. I blame the owners for leaving a guy like that in charge of their restaurant! What a pity, with a bit of effort this place could be amazing

I organised a trip with 16 of us in total. The hotel team were fabulous in helping me to get organised, suggesting things we could do and how to make the most of the weekend. When we arrived we had a super warm welcome, with the pooches too! It was a home from home experience except the food was way better and the views exceptional and we were waited on hand on foot! Thank you to the fabulous team. Highly recommended!

This restaurant was practically empty when we entered it on a Saturday evening. Everything else in town was booked, as it was a music festival weekend. It took a good 5 minutes for 1 of the 2 servers to even look our way when we entered. We were seated at a window side seat. We weren't given menus. We waited again, until I got up and asked for them. And then again, we were forgotten. Our waiter was a male. The other server was a female. We had to ask her several times for help, as he disappeared. Food was OK. Nothing bad, but nothing memorable either.

What a setting excellent views down to the harbour and we were lucky to watch dolphin/porpoise jumping out of the water from the hotel patio and conservatory. Our 1st room rear of building clean but due an upgrade, unpacked then discovered problem with plumbing ie flush loo and basin waste bubbles? Reported advise unable to get plumber for a few days so we had to move to another rear room, smaller and tiny shower cubicle and even more tired but clean. Menus in both rooms, pick our meals but when we went for dinner we were offered a different menu when we queried this told that room menu’s were holiday weekend and was a mistake. Dinner was not great, starter minestrone soup was puréed tomatoes no veg or even pasta, husband chilli prawns were fine and main he had fish and chips but very greasy, I went for monkfish which was chunky and tasty. No problems with breakfast. The main areas of the hotel were well looked after.

An old hotel under new management with some definite improvements being made to an establishment I first stayed in about 30 years ago. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Most importantly the breakfast menu is varied, catering for most tastes and the portion sizes are such that you'll not feeding again until well after noon!

We arrived early and our room was ready, for which we were so grateful as we were cold and wet. The room was lovely and cosy, with a huge comfy bed with the most amazing view out over the harbour. The room and ensuite are dated, hasn't been modernised yet but it all added to an old fashioned splendour and tastefully decorated. Lounge and dining rooms all so beautiful and cosy, with a huge log fire in reception area.
