Disappointing. We regularly visit for food with family and friends which is usually high quality with great service. Last visit was lacking. Service was intermittent, we waited 30 minutes for our plates to be cleared as staff just walked past. No satisfaction checks on our food, waiter didn't ask if our glasses of wine should be small or large. Having waited for our table to be cleared we declined the offer of pudding as we had been waiting for over 30 minutes. The waiter just muttered Oh Sorry as he walked off with our dirty plates. Food was over cooked and dry, probably been waiting for staff to take it to our table. Salmon was shriveled, scotch egg hard, steak dry. Usually this is a great pub meal but if our last visit is going to become normal then we need to find somewhere else to eat.

Room was great, large, clean, well maintained and well decorated/appointed. Food was good in the bar and the service was friendly, quick and helpful. The same was true of breakfast. Only stayed the one night but booked in again for a another stay. The location is the good only drawback being a car ride away from anywhere although that's not really anyone's fault. You kinda know that before you book.

If anywhere is good enough to visit twice in one week, then that states high praise. The first visit was date night with my wife and a stay over. Amazing value for money and a fantastic breakfast. I would only suggest asking for a room on the field side, rather than the road side. Dinner on both occasions was fantastic and consistent standards. I would recommend steak night on Friday, the rib is delicious but the music outside on a warm summer evening makes for a memorable evening. The scotch egg is a must try!

Eating out in comfort and style. We have lived relatively local to this venue for over three decades, but despite driving past many times, we have never visited before today!! There are a couple of high class hotels very close to the Wellington Arms, but they have priced themselves out of our budget when looking for places to eat out! We checked out the web site of the Wellington Arms (which could do with a little work if I’m honest, as it’s not particularly easy to navigate, and finding the menus was challenging) The staff here are marvellous, the setting (in the beautiful Hampshire countryside) is idyllic, and the Wellington Arms has a feel of luxury and opulence about it! It’s spacious but welcoming, and first impressions for our initial visit were very pleasing indeed. Visiting on a Sunday, both myself and my wife opted for their traditional Sunday Roast, which was delivered piping hot, and very quickly, and was amazing. The meats are obviously of very good quality, and the “Seasonal” vegetables were perfectly cooked, and well presented!! It’s unlikely that we would ever stay here, due to its close proximity to home, but if the restaurant and its staff are anything to go by, I would still suspect that the luxury theme would carry throng to the experience of staying there. An expansive outdoor seating area would lend itself to eating out with friends on a warm sunny summer afternoon, and the restaurant meal service extends to this area as well. It’s situated on the main Reading to Basingstoke road, and although the road can be busy, it’s easy to forget where you are, with fields and woodland around, and the Wellington Arm’s remote location (there are other properties around, but you’d never know it!) We will definitely be going back, and we’re just sad that we hadn’t found it many years ago!!

Seriously the best Sunday lunch I've ever had and I hope my dear mother never gets to read this. The attention to detail on all the food was second to none. Only popped in for a drink and some nibbles as have driven past it on the way to and from work every day for the last 6 months but never been inside. Sitting outside on a lovely summer day was very enjoyable, the staff were friendly, and the olives over ice were very nice. Sweetcorn bites were a little bit strange, but the bread with sundried tomato butter was excellent. The only very minor dislike was the fact that there were multiple speakers in different areas playing different songs, and all could be heard at the same time where we were sat outside - one of those annoying little sensory things! But apart from that it was excellent and I fully intend to come back in and try a proper full meal prior to moving away from the area next month as I don't want to miss out!

Review I dare you to find fault Checked in 30 minutes early and wasn’t a problem. Shown to my room. When does that happen? Nice touch. When we got to the room the curtains were pulled as it was a hot day and a fan was on. Again nice touch. In the room a radio was gently playing. Again nice touch. Someone has thought about this and made it happen so well done. Room was very well equipped with water, coffee and tea making facilities. Bed was great with a selection of pillows. I was staying overnight as this was a working trip. Great and easy WiFi which is a must. Restaurant and bar was busy for a Wednesday which says a lot. It came under pressure at the peak time but again that says a lot. I ate in the bar area. Great menu, good selection and I dare you to eat of the Chicken Escalope. I asked for a 10 minute gap between the starter and the main course which was also delivered. Best shower, best fluffy and big towels, great bed. Breakfast is comprehensive with fresh fruit and a hot breakfast cooked to order. This place is well run, managed and with nice touches everywhere. Will definitely return

Stayed here for a works training course. The receptionist when entering was very friendly and polite, showed me to my room and explained where breakfast and exits etc. the room was lovely and spacious, bed was really comfortable and the shower facilities were excellent. I did have a bath in my room which I was excited to use but unfortunately it didn’t work. The water pressure was so low it would have taken me an eternity to fill up, but it did not ruin my experience. The restaurant was lovely, had two meals over the period of my stay. Fish and chips one night and the steak frites the next… both very tasty and recommended. The bar staff were amazing and very friendly. Thank you to kirstie and Luke who made my stay that little bit more enjoyable! Highly recommend this place if you are in the local area!

THE GOOD: The fish and chips were really nice. THE NOT SO GOOD: The Spritz Aperol came with 8 ice cubes and was watery AF, even after sending it back to add some Aperol, they simply mixed it and added 2 straws (maybe a drop of Aperol just to be able to say that some was added?…) but it was still watery and tasteless, for the prince of £11. The starter of scallop comprised of what felt like one scallop sliced in 3, and one new potato cut in 3 or 4 slices, for over £12 The N’duja chicken breast was one single chicken breast that was nothing special, with one strip of focaccia with some n’duja sauce on top, all in a starter-sized plate, for £18.25. We haven’t tried dessert since starter and mains were hit and miss. The garden outside looked really nice, although when there there were 3 very large dogs running around, which might be something to consider if you visit with small children. I don’t mind paying £74 for a drink each, one starter and 2 main courses, but I expect them to be memorable for the right reasons. This visit has left us meh 🫤 , not worth the drive and not worth the money.

Please don't hesitate to book this establishment for your event or occasion. I had the absolute pleasure of making a booking on their 'Family & Friends package' for my 50th birthday celebrations, which provided me use of all 6 bedrooms in the Main House, a 3 course dinner and breakfast for our group of 12. Starting with the value of the package, you honestly can't beat it anywhere! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was perfect. The service received from the beginning of planning with Michelle, to the care and attention that Luba provided our group over the weekend, and finally to the General Manager, Sam, who ensured that our stay was exactly what we needed to be blown away! I genuinely am so happy that I found the venue and package offer and can't rave about our experience enough. Looking forward to trying to think of another occasion to hopefully book the same package again! Thank you to all the staff at The Wellington Arms for delivering, not only the best accommodation experience for my guests, but also the most wonderful catering over dinner and breakfast. The menu selection was overwhelmingly impressive but definitely the service throughout our stay is what separates this establishment to many others! Sincere thanks and best wishes to The Wellington Arms for continued success and positive recognition.

Couldn't easily park. Parked on muddy part of carpark that was slippery with mud. Dangerous for older people and was worried my small car would be stuck in the mud.Had a separate suite for my mother's 80th birthday. No heating and was very cold especially for my elderly parents.Food was a bit mixed as chicken dish was more stuffing than chicken, lamb and beef chewy and fatty. Some people thought their food seemed cold especially the Yorkshire puddings.Vegetables were a bit mixed too much pepper on cabbage.Roast potatoes were overcooked. The boiled potatoes my mother had were horrible didn't look or taste nice. Food looked good but seemed more style over what they actually taste liked. Rewards didn't work as WiFi was not working. Couldn't go back to the bar to get points as it was raining when we left and my mother fell and hit her head in the carpark she thinks she hit her head on concrete and was dark in the carpark. She couldn't get up so my sister and brother-in-law had to get her up and make sure she was okay. I was worried that I might need to take her to hospital as she said she had a bad headache luckily it wasn't cut. Not the end I wanted for my mother's birthday. You need a bigger carpark that was tarmaced and better lighting. Slipped myself in the mud where I parked before moving the car not the best so won't go again. Only tried this place on recommendation of friend of my brother. Also overcharged for ice-cream only 4 people not 7 people so overcharged charged £21 extra. So not somewhere I will go to again. Also no J2Os so mum had to have a fizzy drink which she doesn't really like. prices higher than listed on menu. Charged for an extra starter of scallops that no one had listed. Charged for a vegan wellington that no one had. Definitely not somewhere I would recommend but it was a very busy that day so presumably that is why the service was not up to expectations. Being overcharged definitely is not a reason to go back there again.

Recently stayed here for a wedding, lovely venue, staff on the restaurant couldn’t do enough for you, however hotel staff specifically Luba was extremely rude, abrupt and unprofessional. As we checked out we made her aware of a pillow that had some mould on the back of the case, wasn’t complaining just making them aware for the next guests. She accused me of luying about the pillow and insisted it was not from this hotel, insinuating I had planted it in the room. I had to walk back to the room to prove it was the same pillow, whilst we were walking back she kept insisting that she has made the beds and I was luying, I couldn’t believe it. My children had to hear the whole conversation of a member of staff shouting at me. I think if most people found a mouldy pillow they would complain which was the route we didn’t want to go down. The general manager then intervened and apologised but was very dismissive within this and charged us full price not even offering a slight discount due to the service and sleeping on a mouldy pillow. I am never the type to complain but this is unacceptable!!!!

We had a very bad experience dining here on Christmas Day. As said on previous reviews, the service was absolutely appalling. It took nearly an hour for a bottle of white wine to come to have with our meal, we asked 3 different people where it was, and when it finally arrived it was warm and we had finished our starters. In total we were at the table for over 3 hours and only received a bottle of wine between 3, 1 drink each for our children and a beer each at the end of the meal that was ordered from the bar due to the poor table service. We also ordered a sherry but the staff at the bar didn’t know what it was, and we received a dessert wine half an hour later after we had finished our desserts. The food we received was nice and had been cooked well, but unfortunately it was cold and seemed to have been sat waiting to be taken to the table for a long time. My daughter’s main meal arrived 15 minutes after everybody else’s. As we had waited so long she was over hungry and very fed up. It was a real shame as it was our first time dining out on Christmas Day and was quite costly, so we had high expectations. We won’t be going back again. Was really looking forward to our 6 course Christmas dinner here yesterday, we’d heard lots of good things and they seemed very accommodating on booking. We have a two and three year old and they allowed us to book one meal to share between the two of them. Arrival was welcoming but that was it, the service was shockingly bad and both adults have food poisoning. We asked for the child’s main to come out on arrival as they were hungry and it was past their lunchtime. They said this was fine but An hour and 40 minutes later all the mains finally arrived. They hadn’t cleared the table from the adults appetisers and the waitress was left trying to deliver the main and clear the table at the same time. There was a till behind us and there were 3 annoyed customers standing their talking, we thought they were staff at first and tried to order a drink but turned out they were sick of waiting at their table and had been standing there 20 minutes to pay their bills. The 4 courses the adults received were tasty but 8 hours later felt nauseous. Now we have Severe stomach cramps and diarrhoea. It was a pre-booked meal with a diary intolerance noted. No allowances made to accommodate this for My 2 year old son, reiterated on arrival and as an alternative to cheese breadsticks I just said he’ll be fine with a bread roll. he was given a burnt piece of sourdough toast. We had two infants tired and over hungry. Luckily we brought our own snacks and activities to keep them seated and entertained for so long. Glad they didn’t eat as they would be suffering like we are today. We had the table booked from 1.15 till 4 At 3.15 we asked for the dessert and last two courses to come out together as the kids were getting really agitated. They said this was fine but they brought out only our desserts at 3.50 and with two courses still to go and we’d been left for over an hour with no drinks. We had enough. we’d prepaid for our meals and only had two wines and three beers the 3 hours we were there and hadn’t been given two of our six courses so decided to leave. We packed up put on our coats and went to the car where the waiter came running out saying we needed to settle our bill for drinks now. I told him to email it to me and I’ll settle it, we’re not coming back in or waiting anymore. I relayed our experience and He was very narkie and sarcastic. Have reported food poisoning. Ruined our Christmas and Boxing Day.

Plus our gravy came 5-10 minutes after the food. To be clear it's the first a la carte Christmas dinner I've had and it was very tasty. But Christmas Dinner tends to be a more voluminous event. Can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay there but it looks very nice.

It was an unexpected, last minute find whilst travelling. A gem of a place! The welcome was lovely, the room very comfortable and clean and the food exceptional! Would highly recommend.

Small and cute little pub, nice back garden and parking. Great meeting friends here.
