The Wellington in Wirral

Off the cuff visit with family after visiting port sunlight food festival. Having never been here before wasn't sure what to expect. Warm welcome from the lady on the bar extremely friendly as were the customers. Boys loved the pool table and darts...TV screens for those wanting sport etc. Good selection of snacks available. The pizzas smelt delicious 😋 various good offers on drinks aswell. Will definitely be back for a future visit 👍

nice little pub. the pizza deal on Wednesdays is good value, the pizza is decent. good do with a better selection of real ales, however. just fairly standard lagers on offer.

OH MY GOD!!! Wasn’t even eating at this place but what looks like the manager has just kicked the door of a DPD driver and decided to have an argument with this poor young girl even though she was only delivering a parcel!! SHOCKING!!! Male manager looked very angry and very rude this is not the type of behaviour I expect from an establishment like this, let alone a manager disgraceful!!!!

Tv blasting out sports all of the time. I mean who really needs the darts on full volume? Pub seems to have gone through an update but is not very welcoming and doesn't sell much food apart from aldi pizzas in pizza boxes. Nothing special, and that's a shame as it used to be a thriving pub, but I imagine the closure of the bookies led the pub to be this way. Acorns a good lively pub and not too far away

We popped in here on Friday evening for a couple of drinks. Bustling atmosphere but we found a table. I really like this pub.

Reasonably priced, loads of parking, plenty of TVs for the footy, a dartboard and the decor was top-notch. However, the service was awful as the pub was dead and it took several minutes to get served, as did other customers that came in. We visited mid-week for a couple of pints though, so I've been bearing that in mind.

Lovely pizzas bbq chicken my favourite, entertainment on at weekends, pool table, dart board, large selection of draught beers and bottles including soft drinks, clean, out door seating area and child and dog friendly with dog snacks on the bar. Disabled facilities and friendly and people with SEN needs inclusion. New management who always take on board new ideas, Football and sports on the tvs, nothing is too much trouble for staff. Even have electric car charging on site. Customers enjoying themselves, friendly atmosphere

Used to be a really good place to eat at especially for people who can't have gluten but now the only food they do is pizza.

Really nice inside since it was done up but a very poor beer selection. One of the worst I’ve seen to be honest . Missed a good opportunity to have a great beer place I’d say.

Service quick, atmosphere good, plenty of seating areas. Pool and darts available. Good to see electric car charging ports in the car park. Disappointing food menu, only pizzas 🍕 available but not aware of this on visiting because no menus were visible. Lots of cigarette butts on the ground and in the gravel outside.

Recently revamped at a cost of close to £300k but unfortunately it feels exactly the same as the last time it was opened. Shame as I was hoping for something new. I wish the new owners the best of luck but I feel they've missed a trick here 😢 Football and sports shown. Food available. Music. Outdoor area.

Very unhelpful staff when I discovered the location of ev chargers on their car-park whilst travelling down from Lancashire to the south, with my disabled son. Cold and wet from spending 30 mins trying to connect wanted a drink for my son and my phone re-cgarging, had become low trying to connect to the charger, infornation/instructions at the charging point not good, wanted to call the AA as lone female travelling alone. If you are going to have ev chargers advertised as at your property be prepared to be more helpful. Not all of us are iphone users or overly tech savvy!! In tge frint if my budubess in spain, where I live I have an atm machine, I certainly help people struggling I expected the sane! Obviously UK citizens are not so helpful! At 8.00 when I entered the pub I was told "we are now closed" really!!!!! They couldn't care that we were somewhat stranded on the car-park. 3 hours later, with some help from a relative living not so far away who came to our rescue we finally got on the Road with enough charge to get to the safety of service station where charger worked easily and staff were empathetic and very helpful. What should have been a 2 hour journey ended up at 7! 10 mins of help from the staff at the Wellington to charge .y phone so I could call the AA would have made such a difference!! Unfriendly staff, intimidated by those drinking in there, no help from anyone at all!!

Check your bill in this place, twice they've tried to rip me off with someone else's drinks and this time food, definitely won't be going there again.

Friendly and efficient bar staff and our beer was decent. Not sure if we picked a bad time to pop in, but it had a bloke with two screaming kids, who he kept leaving on their own, and a group of blokes being loud and swearing constantly. We left after one round of beers.

We went to the Wellington for a school reunion. The pub has been going down hill for a while but has recently been taken over by new people. The staff were lovely and after speaking to them found that they are going to have groups/singers on every weekend and bingo nights too. This will help bring back customers to a friendly local comfortable old pub that has been there since I can remember. We didn't eat but the drinks were reasonably priced and gorgeous looking meals were being served while we were there.

What a waste of a car park. Would have a child's play area and more outdoor seating. Lovely pub and atmosphere but need work at the back

I was in last night (29/08) for a quick catch up with a friend. Had a couple of drinks and a bite to eat. We both had the grilled chicken burger with chips and coleslaw, it was really good and tasty. Having been here a few times now, the food and service have always been good and the food is reasonably priced. The bar staff are always friendly. Decent pub.

Called in for lunch as out with a client, I'm a support worker. Really lovely pub with very friendly staff and a couple of gorgeous cats! Great service and our food was really good. Recommended without a doubt. We will be back 👍😄

Excellent selection of beers available in pub. Had my favourite Camden Pale Ale on draught aswell Madri and Bierre Moretti which are top premium lagers. Highly recommend for a few drinks 👍🏻🍺

I'm sorry but I've deleted my review from last year, because it's gone so down hill since Jay has left. We go regularly to Bebington to see family, every time we go, we go to the Wellington. I'm sad to say our last visit was bad. Food wasn't as good, atmosphere was abysmal. I can not see us doing family gathering there like we use to. At least my bank account will be better off as we would usually spend around £200 on all our food and drinks for the family. So sad 😞 it's dropped so far down.

Visited with my Wife and it was quite quiet and we could see nobody else was eating. I ordered drinks then ordered food. We waited an hour and ten minutes before we received our meals which considering no one else had ordered any food and the meals are simple enough to cook we couldn’t understand why it took so long and we were very close to asking for a full refund when it arrived with no apology for the time it took. I even went to the bar and was told it’s on it’s way which was 20 minutes later. The food was quite nice when it arrived but the wait was totally unacceptable and my Wife said she had a similar experience just a week earlier with her parents. We definitely won’t be eating here again and let our family and friends know as we wouldn’t want them to have the same experience. If the food was of a particular difficult level to cook then maybe so but this is a simple pub menu not Michelin style and the lack of apology was particularly annoying. We have visited a few times recently for drinks and find regulars blocking the bar to get served and neighbours who have visited have said the same thing which puts you off going unfortunately

Great value for money. Southern Fried Chicken Burger (big double breast of chicken with home made sasoning) i had was absolutely banging! Partners Grilled Chicken Burger was on same par! Fully recommend.

Went to the Wellington tonight, booked our table for 4 people at 7pm. Service was very slow. But we ordered by 7.20. Our drinks arrived 10 mins later, but it took until 8.15 to get our starters. We were very hungry by now. So asked when our mains were coming- your the next table out , we were told, but we were told we were next, but that was a lie! We asked for a free round of drinks, but after another 15 min wait our meals arrived. In total the bill was £102 - I asked for a reduction but the lady manager/cook was extremely rude, and obviously needs training in customer service, as she didn't care that we had had a very negative experience. And I strongly dissuade any one from eating there.

Oh dear, what an evening! Can't complain about the food except that it's overpriced. I was one of a party of 4. I had pre-booked a table which was ready for us. We arrived just after 7 pm and ordered a drink and placed our food order. It was after 8pm when we received our starters and had to wait until 8.45 until our main course arrived. The waiting staff did apologise for the wait but were not truthful about the length of the delay, telling us that we were the next order to be ready when we were not. Someone from the kitchen, I believe she is the manager, was almost abusive when we complained. She clearly has had no training in customer service and as a result of that I will not be returning and am unable to recommend the Wellington Pub

the menu has been changed (I assume because of ownership?) the food use to be good & value for money. But went here recently the prices weren’t so cheap for what you go. The food was decent, however the price of the food doesn’t reflect the pub that you’re in. I spent over £40 and that’s not including drinks or dessert. I wouldn’t come here again unfortunately. The food as I said was decent, but for the price and everything it wasn’t worth it. The drinks were a limited selection as half the drinks I wanted were offered . Whilst I was waiting, they told people they didn’t even have wine glass. It was kinda funny for a pub not to have wine glasses. Shame as use to be a decent pub, which I would with family visit on occasion

Very friendly and helpful staff. Camden Pale Ale on draught. Home made Beefburger was delicious. Made us and our very big dog very welcome. Highly recommend this Alehouse.

Great experience tonight. Asked if they'd put on the Peterborough v sheffield wednesday game, no problem, did that for me- sort of wish the hadn't as my team lost 4 nil 🤣 Great staff and some lovely friendly people in there talking to me and shaking my hand. Band on who sounded really good. Nice inside and great staff and good atmosphere, will definitely return. Great friendly place. Thank you!!

Visited today (Sunday) for a drink. Dire, if large selection of lagers and so called beers. How can lager be badly served? It was ! Red wine tasted stale. Food/kitchen was closed, which I suspect was a blessing. Very uninspiring, doubt if we will ever pay another visit.

Very friendly waitress who was great with our dogs. They were as welcome as we were and we felt very much at home. Great service and delicious food which was excellent value for money. We would go back again without hesitation.

Great food and staff one problem is that the singers turn up out of the blue setting up during the football game on TV... why don't they setup after the game people are watching the game but speakers and other stuff in the way which is pretty disrespectful

we attended the pub on monday 31st for childrens halloween party, what an exceptional venue, very family friendly and orientated, staff where brilliant, very welcoming and helpful, very happy in their jobs, drinks and food was amazing, they had a childrens dj on and was fantastic with the children. this pub is amazing and highly reccommend to anyone looking for a family friendly homely place to eat and drink and take your children and dog friendly too. loads of parking spaces and rear beer garden for those sunny days. absolute fantastic experience will be back very soon, thank you jamie and all the staff.

We have had a booking for a table of up to 16 people for the last two weeks, for a meal due to take place this evening. This Morning, the Manager Jamie (who refused to give his second name) rang us to say we couldn't go, as he had a wedding booking for 200 people whch had been overlooked by the person who made the booking. He maintained that the person who made the booking had now left, (although our person who made our booking had been told by theperson on the other end of the phone that he was the manager.) I asked for details of the 'chain', and was told by Jamie that it was privately owned. This is a lie, as it is part of the Greene King chain. I have rung Greene King and left a message detailing our complaint , and asking them to ring me. If they don't I will certainly ring them

Nice pub. However real ale selection not great, Greene King, and it tasted like it was on the turn. Staff helpful and welcoming. There was live music which was very good. Had food there in the past and that was very good. Just a shame about the beer!

Still a nice pub after all the these years, but prices on the ale let's it down. £3.80 for a John Smith's is tad ridiculous. Won't be stopping there again.

The food was nice -it did take an hour to arrive, but admittedly it was a busy night as it was bank holiday (June 2nd). What I objected to was being charged £6.40 for 2 litres of lemonade for my daughter. And when I commented on this, the woman at the bar said "well you did get a 2-course meal for £9" -as if this justified ripping people off with the price of soft drinks! I don't mind paying £4 for a pint of decent beer -but £6.40 for 2 pints of lemonade which would have cost about 40p in a supermarket?!

Only went for a few pints, food other people had looked very nice, will eat there soon,watch this space 🙄🙄👍

The place was recently refurbished, nice and clean now. Food is of good quality and decent priced. All good during our visit, my only remark is that the tap beer selection is quite limited for a pub.

Food is rubbish. 2 courses for 8.99 all very dry chicken tasted like it was frozen my chips and onion rings were half cooked. We ordered 2 pints of carling tested like the were both flat

My husband & I go at least once a week for lunch. Such high standard of food for such reasonable price. I myself cannot eat big portions. Jamie the manager asked if I wanted a doggie bag (he knows how I fill up easily & suggested a doggie bag) So pleased because my pork stack was so gorgeous & I hate not being able to finish. Just reheated my leftovers - FAB😋

Went for our tea there today , what can I say it was absolutely beautiful couldn't fault it £8.95 for 2 courses. I don't know how they keep open it was fresh it was hot best meal in a pub I've had for a long time superb
