Great idea! Was in Bristol for the first time in quite a few years. Popped down Gloucester Road and wanted to have a late coffee. Wonderful idea to combine a Launderette and a Cafe. Highly recommend the soup!

My washing was mixed up with somebody else's washing. It contained 6 items which weren't mine including a pair of female knickers, I'm male and it's a good job I haven't got a partner, pritty disgusting If you ask me. Also, dropped of on Saturday, collected on Monday, it was ready on Sunday but they didn't text me (they said they would), they tried to charge me the 2 day turnaround rate of a staggering £17. Avoid this place, Waeshous just up the road charge £13 for collection on same day and the service is much much better. The place was OK with previous owners/staff have all changed and its gone dramatically down hill.

Lovely little cafe with great food options and good coffee. The little details really make it, like the cute vintage shop style decor and the delicate crockery. Great place to come out for brunch or sit and work for an hour. They’ve done a great job with the outside space as well, despite the road being so busy. Almost didn’t want to review, as I still want to get a seat when I come!

Cute place but the coffee was basic & the service was just ok. Menu looked lit so ordered an open sandwich for £7, which was just a glorified piece of toast with sprinkles of feta and a handful of rocket. I guess it’s more pricey as they source from locals which is a plus, but £7 for one slice of toast with salad was very underwhelming & I was still hungry x

Came here for my friend’s birthday for pancakes. We waited over an hour to receive a very awkward/ bordering on rude apology. It wasn’t even that busy so it seems odd that it too so long - we weren’t even offered tap water. Pancakes were fine but they weren’t worth the hour wait.

MORE AT TripAdvisor

We called 'At the Well Cafe and Launderette' for Brunch on Wednesday. It offered some interesting seating on the pavement, just off the main Stokes Croft road, which is noisy, dusty but a great place for people watching. The Menu consisted largely of American Pancakes with various toppings as well as other, more traditional breakfast fare. I chose the Transatlantic Pancakes (Mushrooms, Scrambled eggs, streaky bacon all covered with “A liberal dousing of Maple Syrup”) £8.50. Sadly I was disappointed. The Pancakes were thick and heavy. Though they tasted good they were a bit stodgy which meant they needed lots of additional flavours to go with them. The streaky bacon hit the spot but mushrooms and Scrambled eggs didn't, they were too bland. The Pancakes were described on the menu as 'light and Fluffy' but I'm not sure I would have described them as such. Sorry Guys. My Sister made a better choice going for the American Pancakes with Bacon and Blueberries at £7.50. A pound cheaper but I cant think why ? Unfortunately they were a bit 'frugal' with the Maple Syrup, even serving it in tiny hand made clay jugs. My wife went for her old Favourite. Poached Eggs on Sour Dough. Here's where I get on my high horse because I just don't get Sour Dough Toast. It is always too crisp for me and almost always cuts my gums to pieces. There are some great artisan bakers making fabulous bread (there is one not 20 yards along the road where we bought Croissants and a lovely fresh loaf) so why not offer a choice? But Jaki loved hers and was extremely satisfied. We ordered Tea and Coffee (in a Cafetière) but they forgot to bring any cups, then there were no spoons and finally, I had to ask for Sugar. All trivial but you expect places to get these simple things right first time ? There was no issue about social distancing as we were the only customers initially though by the time we left, there were several groups of people seated inside and out. No one was using the Launderette facility whilst we were there which is a shame as I would have liked them to be busy. I did wonder whether the smell of Laundry went well with food? Service was acceptable without being exceptional, polite but lacked any intimacy which these niche places often have. The Bill came to about £14 in total because we got some discount through the Eat out to Help Out scheme which meant it was good value for money, but had we paid the full price, I might not have been quite as pleased. £8.50 for a few pancakes is, in my book. expensive. So if you need your smalls washing and you want to eat at the same time, this might be a good call. I suspect there is more work to do on the business model but I wish them well and despite my reservations about the pancakes I would go again and we did enjoy our visit. If only for the people watching.

I went here for breakfast / brunch. Initially we thought it was a good find, looks cosy and trendy quite well presented. Tried to order some coffee, the girl at the counter wasn't sure if I needed to order coffee at the counter or at the table, so she asked someone else and she wasn't sure either, so I asked how all the other customers cot thier coffee and she said that they ordered it at the counter, so I suggested that I might do the same. Food ordering was cumbersome, there were 4 of us and 4 of the same breakfasts ordered, only 3 arrived so 1 of us had to eat alone. There wasn't many customers, but they seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. Quite expensive, and a odd menu.

We go here reasonably often, both to use the launderette and to eat and whilst the food, drinks and facilities are generally very good, increasingly it seems that the levels of service are frequently sub-par and are letting the whole establishment down.I have noticed over several visits below-average customer service, this is not an isolated incident :(On more than one occasion we have been served cold or tepid drinks (and food!), as they have been left on the counter after being made and not brought promptly to the table. A recent visit has highlighted the service levels in my mind and prompted me to leave a review, rather than to continue to give staff the benefit of the doubt as I have been doing as I now see this a pattern of poor service which seems to be escalating and could be simply and easily rectified by management with some staff training (or retraining) in basic customer service. On a recent visit, I was served a drink forty minutes after I had ordered it. I came in, was seen fairly promptly and ordered a drink, then went and took a seat. The three members of staff on duty seemed to be mostly preoccupied with doing service washes, which is not an unusual situation - two staff members were offloading the same load from the same dryer, chatting and away from the counter, with no-one covering food and drink and customers taking a while to be served. I gave them the benefit of the doubt, I acknowledge that sometimes people are busy and I'm not unreasonable, so I settled in and started reading my book, sure that my drink would arrive as soon as was possible. I then overheard/witnessed a long conversation (ten minutes plus) between one staff member and someone I had assumed was another customer, however it soon became apparent that this was in fact a personal friend of the staff member in question; and they were making plans for later that evening. Slightly annoyed by this, as it was now twenty five minutes after I had ordered and still I had no drink I politely waited for the conversation to end, at which point another customer entered, ordered tea and had it made and served to them immediately. By this point it was thirty minutes since I had ordered (I had a load of washing in the machine so I was hyper-aware of the time passing) and so I enquired politely whereabouts my drink had gotten to, there was a 'whoops' from a member of staff and an assurance it was coming. It arrived ten minutes later (after another machine had been emptied and a table cleared) making a total of forty minutes since ordering.Three issues (from someone who has worked a long time in the service industry):1 - when you have two jobs to do (service washes and serving customers) and two members of staff available, maybe one staff member should work one job each, as for example unloading a washing machine is not drastically sped up by two people doing it simultaneously.2 - A simple ordering system would ensure my order would not have been forgotten about - I appreciate that your tablet is shiny and a nice alternative to a traditional till, but there are paper-free alternatives to the classic 'receipts in a row' system used by almost every restaurant and cafe for the past few decades to ensure orders are not neglected or forgotten about.3 - When you become aware that a mistake has been made, you should stop what you are doing rectify that mistake immediately, not carry on and sort it at some point in the future.I genuinely hope that the service levels can pick up in response to this review, as on the whole I do enjoy @ The Well but I come away each time slightly perplexed or annoyed at how it is being run :/ I don't think necessarily the customer service is 'poor' (as defined by this website) but it is certainly below average and hence it has to be a 2 rather than a 3, sorry :(

I had a cranberry, brie and bacon Panini. My Panini contained a satisfying ratio of filling to bread, it was toasted to perfection and served with a smile. To drink I ordered a chai latte, I have ordered this many times from this establishment and yet again it was glorious, much better than anywhere else, including the major coffee café chains. The chai latte, at @ The Well is a comforting, velvety, spiced cup of joy, it is something to be savoured. The person who accompanied me had a bacon sandwich which they said was extremely satisfying, the bacon was well-done but not so much so that it was dry, the bread itself (my companion ordered white bread) had a pleasing texture and was tasty enough to eat on its own. My friend had a pot of English tea which they informed me was spot on and refreshing. It pleases me to have found a café that produces consistently high quality food that is not fussed around with, but flavoursome and well executed. This café has a local community atmosphere that makes you feel comfortable and good natured, it is relaxing to sit down and watch what is occurring on Cheltenham road as well as in the venue itself. I find the staff helpful, welcoming and efficient. I will keep returning.
