Incredible jerk pork, jerk chicken and curry goat, have tried everywhere in Bristol and this is by far the best Jamaican food! Festivals were fresh, sweet, light and fluffy…only thing that would make it even better is serving steam veg with the meal- could be personal preference of mine. Tuesday evening so atmosphere was not so great, but I don’t put this down to fault of the business.

Delicious food, all the staff are really friendly. When I ordered online, there was a mishap with uber eats and the Manager very kindly dropped the food to me so we could still enjoy it hot! Thankyou so much. Will definitely be returning.

Seven of us took a trip here on a Friday evening after various people said how good it was. I was not disappointed. The atmosphere is relaxed and the decor good and welcoming. There is a good selection of drinks but the star of the show is the food. I had the king prawns to start and the Jerk Pork for main which, at £14, was a bargain. Plentiful, tender and super tasty with lovely rice and coleslaw. Some of us had the combo for mains and other the goat curry but all to a man said they really enjoyed the food. Will go back and highly recommend you try it if you like Caribbean food.

Just had the Kings curry goat, no potatoes or carrots in there, no pees as advertised. Just basic slop. Plastic small containers,typical Chinese take away. Also says served with salad and coleslaw, which still not in are order,which was paid for,you can sugar coat it all you like, but your advertised Kings Goat is not replicated in your take away .

We visit the Kings Head on a regular basis for their Sunday roast, never had a bad experience here. Good portions, veg is cooked to perfection and whatever meat we’ve had has been good. Service is great, drinks reasonably priced and children welcome. Always guaranteed a great Sunday lunch here.

Disgusting overpriced food ! Another pub cashing in on the hype about Caribbean food lol It’s a shame as I’ve only heard great reviews about this place and for so long it was on my list of places to try but they’ve really let me down here’s why The jerk chicken and jerk pork was disgusting !! The meat was tender but the gravy lacked any flavour whatsoever and neither did the pork … it was like eating bland meat with the smallest of jerk flavour which I can’t even call It that … it tasted like standard bisto gravy from Asda served over barely seasoned jerk meat . Maybe you’ve watered down the gravy to serve to bulk customers as you get busy or something? It didn’t taste like jerk at all and t then only slight taste of pimento was from the cooked chicken skin not the chicken or gravy ! Curry goat was nice … perfect texture of sauce and nice portion with flavour . Rice and peas spot on ! I don’t normally like rice and pea’s especially as most places add too much coconut milk but this tasted very savoury and peppery and herby which I loved .. it’s a shame I have to say the rice and peas were my favourite out if everything I spent here Think you might need to look at how the chef is running the kitchen .

Why just why is the garden so full of concrete slabs? Have you seen customers friendly beer gardens/ alfresco patios before? It would look so much more inviting if you added a few plants/conifers in pots to fence off against all the pedestrians staring at you. You’re a stone’s throw away from a primary school for gods sake and I felt like I was having a pint on their courtyard. Lots of ‘builder’ type blokes having pints , ok maybe they don’t care about the outdoor deco or the atmosphere of privacy but it’s so neglected and done with zero imagination you’re losing all the appeal to potential new customers.

Massive portions and full of flavour. I do recommend any of the Caribbean dishes. This is just personal preference but I'm not a pub person so atsmosphere wasnt doing it for me (thats just personal preference) and its just usual pub service too but I'd definitely go back for the food.

The Curry Goat was the best I've had since Beverly and Plantation closed on Cheltenham road. My partner had the Jerk Pork which again was delicious. Only let down was the surroundings it just has no character in the pub.

I have just eaten the best curried goat, that ive ever had. Cooked perfectly, well presented, so tasty, and great price. Loved it and will definitely come here again ❤️

Great food. Great manager. We had an issue with one of the staff and he sorted it quickly and made us feel heard. A few things had run out, which was cool. The combo was fabulous. Would definitely return. Made the trip from London especially.

Came here a few weeks ago with some friends for a sunday roast. Nice place, newly repainted walls. I ended up getting the jerk chicken roast and honestly it was some of the juiciest, well seasoned chicken I've had in bristol let alone the uk. 10/10! Will he going back soon!

Went for the Sunday roasts. The non vegetarian Caribbean and English roast were both so tasty (the chicken was so succulent and delicious) HOWEVER a friend had the veggie option and they served it with meat gravy ‘on the side incase she didn’t want it as it has meat in it’.. Of course she’s not going to want gravy with meat in it if she’s a vegetarian?!.. anyway, we established that they didn’t do vegetarian gravy which we thought was absolutely ridiculous, so she just had to eat her’s without gravy bless her which she struggled with as it was dry without. I have to say that the atmosphere wasn’t the best either - it didn’t feel like you were in a ‘pub’ at all as the walls in the back room are all dark grey -it felt like a canteen. I was really surprised that there was no music as well- I feel like this may have helped to drown out the sounds of the screechy young children, which really goes through you when you’ve had a few the night before 🤣. Most likely won’t be returning based on the atmosphere however the (non veggie) roasts were lovely. I’d recommend this pub for young families but not for a group of slightly hungover 20 somethings!

Food was top tier. It was the weekend so pub was busy with alot of atmosphere. Book a table as it gets busy. Overall good service and food was on point. Highly recommend.

This place has been on my list for ages! I've only been in for a pint at the King's Head before. Now I finally visited for their highly regarded food. I was 100% certain I was going to have their pretty famous roast... But after looking at the menu, I ended up going for the 'KINGS COMBO'. - King's Jerk Chicken with sweet peppers, onion jerk gravy - Jerk Pork Belly - Curried Goat Served with - Rice & Peas - Slaw - Cabbage & Carrot I loved every bit of this and I was so full! But I'm still very tempted to try the XXL COMBO next or the Sunday Roast I meant to get this time (which looked amazing BTW) 😁 @bristolian_foodie

went here last nite with my four sisters and there husbands..we try to go out a couple of times per year to different pubs and restaurants and The Kings Head was on our radar…and WoW…!!…the food was stunning, so tasty and delicious and plenty of it…we all cleared our plates and left absolutely stuffed..!!…the servers and bar staff were friendly and helpful…we will 100% definitely be returning…

Amazing food at a fantastic price. The Caribbean combo is a must. An ample portion of jerk chicken, jerk pork and curry goat. The staff were very friendly and attentive and we were made to feel very welcome. Definitely a must if you want to sample Caribbean cuisine.

Ordered jerk chicken rice and peas and laid £16.50 with delivery. The rice container only came half full.

Had a takeaway, the food was delicious will be ordering again

Visited here twice in January with family for a Sunday roast. Lovely lunch, best roast dinner that we have had in a long time and at a reasonable price. We have visited twice since for midweek lunch, I had the tuna wrap and my nephew the jerk chicken burger. Both were good, large portions and again a reasonable price. Would definitely recommend this pub for food and atmosphere.

Jerk chicken was covered in gravy which totally spoilt the taste. Sunday lunch was okay but would not go back. Certainly not the best we’ve had.

Best Sunday lunch we have had in ages. Beautifully cooked chicken, plenty of veg that was cooked to perfection and tasty gravy. All for a reasonable price.

We decided to go to the kings head as its been a few years since our last visit. We arrived late Saturday afternoon, the pub did not look too busy. When we went to order some food, we were told a large group were taking priority before any other orders. So we waited until we were informed we could order some food, probably around an hour. When we did order, we had to wait a further hour before we could eat. During our time there the pub started to fill up with local football teams that had finished playing nearby. We were feeling that as we weren't locals, we were forgotten or perhaps there was a staffing problem. Maybe this establishment is centred around local football people rather than people that are looking for a good food experience as we had eaten there some time ago. This day out was to celebrate my birthday and have lovely food. The food was very good but the atmosphere marred our enjoyment. Very disappointing.

So disappointed, we had to wait an hour and a half to have our food order taken. I guess because there was a very lively customer base of football fans and male teams that had obviously played earlier. No tables were marked as reserved so we sat down in a spot that was slightly warm only to be asked to move by the owner. It felt as though we should not have been there, he was too concerned about his male customers. Horrible atmosphere, then to be told by server after 2 hours that our order had not been put through. 🙄 Should have walked out by that point but it was my partners birthday and he had heard food was good. When food did arrive 2 hours plus later, it was nice but will never ever grace this establishment again. No apologies for lateness of food an offer of anything complimentary food/drink for our inconvenience. I would not recommend, this place to anyone, such a shame, it used to be an amazing pub!!

Didn’t get to try the food. We rang to book a table - was told no need to book as they are very quiet. Turnt up there to a full Pub , and they said they had loads of people ring and book so now fully booked. Couldn’t be seated. If you ring to book and they say this, insist you are booked in. Don’t make our mistake.

This restaurant/ pub is totally outstanding. We attended the function room for the Wake of our Aunt. The celebration of her life was made so much better by the fabulous meal / drinks. The ambiance, food and drinks very excellent. The Caribbean food was so tasty- chicken, fish, curried mutton was praised by all. The service was outstanding and certainly more than good value for money. The owner- Martin was a pleasure to deal with and fully catered to everyone’s needs. This restaurant definitely stands apart from the rest and I would highly recommend a visit.

A lovely surprise, on a wet and windy Sunday afternoon, we treated ourselves to a tasty Caribbean Sunday Dinner. I had the delish Jerk Chicken and my wonderful wife had the veggie curry...plates were licked clean...staff were super friendly... I left with a full belly and plans of having a snooze on the settee watching a western....good times

The food here is so good. I found out about this pub through a food blogger who recommended it. The Caribbean food is so good and I love that you can do half roast and half Caribbean food on a Sunday.

The outside colour of the boozer is an uninspiring Grey 😩!, Hitlers bunker was (Grey!), could it be possible to get it more Italian looking or something else Please 🙆🏻‍♂️🙆🏻‍♀️, many of us pass it on the Buses 🚌,,,,,, and look the other way 😣, we hope not to hurt your feelings 🤔, but sort out the Greyness please 🙏🏻🙄.

The Kings Head Jamaican menu, is arguably the best, West Indian food you will experience. I love West Indian food and I started at the Kings head, then ventured into St Paul's to sample some 'the best you will get', however none lived up to where I began. Please don't follow the crowd, otherwise you may overlook the best West Indian food in bristol

Great place. Tried the Caribbean combo jerk pork belly, jerk chicken, and curried goat. Blooming lovely couldn't finish it. The meats were really high quality and cooked to perfection.

Unfortunately we left it too late to book a table for sunday lunch, so we decided to try their takeaway service. Called through our order and 45 minutes later collected our food. The staff at the bar were really friendly when paying. The boxes were full of food, no half measures here. We will certainly be utilising this service again.

What a interesting diverse place with a spot on Caribbean menu. The owner need to be nominated for the next priminerster as he has a well balanced interest in all sorts & can chat about just everything to anyone! Well deserved ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

The roast dinner here is incredible - been twice now in 2 weeks. English and Caribbean options with all the trimmings and you can even pay an extra £6 to get all the meats. Definitely worth visiting

Best caribbean food in Bristol!

Food was lush and hot! And drinks weren't too badly priced either. I ordered a pint and half a pint of thatchers gold, and a J20 and it came to less than a tenner!

Popped in for lunch and the food was amazing. Really well presented and delicious. Staff friendly and it is a shame I am not local otherwise I would be returning regularly to work through the menu!

My friend and I have just had a lovely Caribbean meal here rather than the usually typical English Sunday lunch. She had a mixed vegetable curry with rice and peas, garnished with salad and coleslaw and enjoyed her meal followed by a hot chocolate fudge cake that she said was delicious. I had the same rice and salad dish though opted for a particular favourite of mine that I had not eaten in 10 years, which is curried goat. I was reminded of how much I love this cuisine just by the aroma of it when the food arrived and it also tasted gorgeous.... Succulent chunks of well prepared, nicely flavoured goat in a thick, flavoursome sauce melted in my mouth and there was not a single bone in sight on the plate either so no gnawing required as I recall doing lots of in the past when having this dish. Well done chef for a most tasty meal that was, in popular Bristol fashion Gert Lush! I was somehow able (out of curiosity, perhaps) to follow this good sized portion of food with a sticky toffee pudding submerged in custard that took me back to my English 'Old Skool' days and in the words of that kid (now an adult) "IT WAS YUMMY!" Both courses of food and accompanying drinks were served promptly by efficient, friendly staff who were good at their jobs and maintained a tidy cleanliness to the place in between serving or clearing food and drink. In walking or driving by outside this unassuming pub one might think that they are merely passing a working man's local.... Don't let this affect your decision to have a meal here as your hungry belly will be missing a treat... Go there and find out what I'm talking about for yourself!

We went for a funeral wake and the service provided was first class. The customers were all really pleasant to the mourners, food was really good and they have a good selection of beers. If you are in the Fishponds area of Bristol this is one hostelry worth visiting.

Usually go to Rice and Things but they are closed whilst owner on holiday. I heard good reviews about this place so decided to try it out. I had curry goat with rice and peas and my wife and child had jerk chicken. The jerk chicken was not jerk chicken. It was a chicken breast with a sauce on it. The sauce had no bite and was bland. The rice was clumped and sticky. The curry goat was fatty and tasteless and the rice and peas were dry and tasteless. Cost really expensive and extremely disappointed.

We needed an event room for a small family gathering. So many places turned us down or could not accommodate us but when we contacted the landlord here he was more that happy to oblige. The room we hired was the perfect size, clean, well decorated and we were able to add some decorations of our own. They catered the event with carribean food which was excellent. The staff were amazing and patient with us too. Would definitely book again and will visit for drinks as well soon.

Great pub the visit in the summer. Sit on a bench table, enjoy your pint and watch the traffic go by Edit: Do not order lunch here as the staff aren’t flexible with dietary requirements. I was told “they won’t do that” when asking to change something on the menu. This place will never get any of my pleases or thank you’s ever again. Makes me sore to even think of this place in the light of my previous review on this place…… two stars removed for being rude to a customer for a dietary requirement

Food was great, roast potatoes are delicious, lovely to sit in outside area when sunny. Definitely worth a visit.

Nice place, good food usually, was let down by my starter, jerk chicken wings tasted stale, were frozen in the centre and in fareness they got my a new one but it was just completely blitz in the microwave the chicken wings were dry and hard, seems as they freeze them then chuck them in the microwave, surpirsed as wings dont take that long to cook from fresh! however the main jerk chicken past I had was really nice cousont fault it, big nice portion. But over would recommend the place, great for live football, good atmosphere. Would of given a 5 if it wasn't for the wings

Was assaulted by the landlord for using his empty carpark for 2 minutes. Putting your hands on someone stopping them leaving a a heated situation is assault. You should know that as a landlord but you do seem a bit thick. For example you've just admitted to a crime in writing. My one star review was to see if you were stupid enough to do that. I have now reported this to the police as this is evidence. Do not delete your CCTV as this will be distruction of evidence.

Wife and I arrived without a booking and the staff made every effort to sort us out. Food was really nice as I had the lamb roast and wife had jerk chicken. We'll worth the money and definitely coming back. Definitely recommend.

I had the "king jerk" meal and my missis had roast chicken, best pub food we can remember having for a long time. Very reasonabley priced as well. Will definitely be re visiting.

Could not recommend enough! Among the best pub food I've ever had. Went originally planning on having the English roast but decided to give the Caribbean Combo a go instead and I'm SO glad I did. The jerk pork absolutely melts in your mouth, the chicken is cooked to perfection and the curry goat is delicious. Even the coleslaw is great! Nice friendly staff too - will definitely go back.

Been here for a drink only a couple of times since living in Bristol…. A friend recommended it’s takeaway roast as I’m a big roast fan…. Couldn’t be arsed to cook one today so popped in for a couple of roasts… had a pint whilst I waited and took them home… BOOM !!!! Amazing!! Thank you . Will definitely be back to try them in house 👍🏼

The beer was good and the food even better. I had Caribbean curry chicken with rice and it was fabulous. It's got a reasonably sized car park and the Welcome is very friendly. I recommend it.
