We called in for lunch today because it's one of our favourite dog friendly places. The pork belly Sunday roast I had was absolutely fantastic and everything was cooked perfectly. Lynn had the goats cheese tart roast and that was also delicious. We can highly recommend this restaurant in it's beautiful lakeside setting to anyone that's heading that way.

Popped in for lunch as was staying at Whalesborough. Staff appeared friendly enough. Waited ages to place our order. We could see a couple who had arrived after us sitting there patiently waiting to be served but they waited and waited. Food was fine although £12 for a sandwich is pushing it. We had a few pizzas (takeaway) and they were very nice but disappointed that they now serve nothing but pizza every evening. Also stopped for a drink one afternoon; sat outside and went in to order as nobody appeared. Drinks did not arrive. Got them eventually after chasing, but one drink was incorrect (could not be bothered to wait for it to be changed).

Used to come here often, but the service now is very poor. The staff look miserable and the waiting time, even to put an order in, is horrendous. We gave up and came home after talking to people who had been there longer than us and still hadn't been able to put an order in after 15 minutes!

So we decided to stop off for a quick bite to eat and a coffee here as we occasionally do every couple of months... and it's changed! I'm not sure for the better either. Firstly the cafe service has disappeared and has been replace by very slow table service, the prices seem 25% more expensive (£12 for a sandwich?) than before and the coffee has gone down hill a fair bit. On a positive note the chicken sandwich was really very nice but I'm not sure it was £12 nice. Is any sandwich? Much as I love the place, and have been popping in since it opened, I'm honestly not sure I will be back for a while. Shame really.

Arrived for lunch approx 12.30 and found a nice table out the front looking over the stunning views. Popped up to a staff member to ask for a few menus which she happily gave us . The four of us,two adults and two teens( plus are two doggos) deliberated for sometime over what we were wanting to eat. The menu has lovely options! I popped in to make our order but was greeted with a chalkboard sign saying’ No service at the bar’. So I found another member of staff , who informed me it was complete table service. Fantastic! However rather surprised that if that was the case why had we be waiting in excess of 35 minutes for someone to come to the table. Eventually someone came to take our order. I also asked for a bowl of water for the dogs. 20 minutes later our (wrong) drinks order arrived. They offered to change it but at this point I was just grateful to have a drink . I asked again for a bowl of water for the doggos which they provide. Food arrived 15 minutes later (so at this point we had been waiting over an hour) fish and chips, which was absolutely delicious, nice and hot and really yummy , once we got to eat it as it arrived with no cutlery! After finding a staff member it was another 5 minutes before our cutlery arrived. While the food was scrummy, the service ruined the entire experience. The Weir was recommended by a friend who is local so I have a feeling the poor service is a new thing. It wasn’t a staffing issue as there were plenty of staff around and the bistro wasn’t busy . When you are paying in excess of £120 for lunch you expect decent service . Its a shame really as it’s perfect location to go with dogs and kids as there is also a playground

This was not good. Went for lunch. Sat and waited 10 minutes with no staff acknowledgement. Asked for a menu to while away the time as we could see they were busy, they had none to give us. Waited another 10 minutes with no staff interaction, then left. Was told upon our leaving that they were busy and short staffed. All it needed to keep us there would have been a 'hello' and a menu. Very disappointed.

Stopped here for a bite to eat while walking from Bude. Excellent service, from a friendly team, decent food at a reasonable price. Indoors or outside on the terrace, we found a spacious environment with room for our large dog to relax. Beer on tap, local produce aplenty, there's little room for improvement at this price point.

If you are using the Atlantic Highway on your journey in to Cornwall, then the Weir makes a great place for a break. It’s set slightly back from the main road with a fishing lake in front. Car parks are small but adequate. Pleasant walks along the towpath to Bude. The Bistro is modern with inside and outside tables for eating or just a coffee. There’s a small ish lounge area in front of a winter log fire. Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome (even my Great Dane). Free children’s play area. The excellent food is nicely prepared and presented by helpful staff.

Everything was beautifully presented, fresh and very very tasty! What an amazing team The Weir has! Went to the Weir on two occasions early August, once for a snack lunch with my wife and then an evening meal with my family. The lunch was very nice - sitting outside with relaxing, wonderful location, relaxed service and a lovely ploughman's that we shared. Decided to visit the following Friday for evening meal with my parents so booked a table for their BBQ evening. Unfortunately a different experience. After about an hour my father enquired about our food. The waiter was very apologetic advising that it was being plated shortly and gave my father a complimentary glass of wine. There was a lack of clarity on the accompaniment's to the pork dish - I heard the table beside us also query this, so we were give a complementary portion of chips. The brown butter on the pork tasted just like oil - no buttery or nutty taste. Everything that had been put through the fat fryer tasted very oily like the fryer was not up to temperature. A sign of things not being right was the children leaving chips and onion rings!! Five mains were had and unfortunately only one did not receive questioning comments. We raised this when settling the bill and while serving staff were apologetic and discount was given the senior managements attitude was very dismissive.

Slowest-ever service! At 11.50 we were told lunch orders couldn't be placed until 12.00, so I waited - on my own, then first in the short queue. At 12.00 there was some query as to whether my order could be accepted; though after consultation among staff it was decided my order could be placed: 2 drinks and a small salad. It's now 55 minutes since my order - remember I was the first in the 'lunch' queue - and still no sign of our salad. When I queried the long wait I was told 'orders are delivered randomly' and they couldn't say when it might come. It's now coming up to a full hour and the other members of our party want to leave, so I'm going to demand a refund. Let's see what happens...

I have only posted a handful of posts in the past but felt spending £25 on the platter , needed to be pointed out of the lack of quality . As we were staying in the cottages at whalesborough we booked the ‘grill and chill’ for the Friday evening. It was our one meal out on our holiday so we were really looking forward to the ‘live music’ and the menu looked great. It couldn’t have been further from expectations. ‘Live music’ is a speaker under a gazebo in the garden We ordered our food while sat in the garden but the wait (it wasn’t busy) was close to an hour so we had to move inside as the temperature had dropped. It was challenging to find a table not swarming with flies around the sauce bottles left on the tables. Eventually our food arrived, my daughter’s pasta and my chicken gyros were both cold. I mentioned to the waiter, no apology just that they would recook it by which point my children were too tired to wait so we ate it cold. The chicken in the gyro was so overcooked (ironic as it was cold). It was almost inedible. Definitely not worth £19! Ridiculously overpriced, even if it had been hot. I told the waiter when I paid that I wasn’t happy with the price we were paying for cold food and again, no apology, just told they could have recooked it. On reflection I should have pushed harder as I can quite believe how much money I have spent on such poor quality food and service. I heard another couple saying they were unhappy and were letting them know as others wouldn’t be so friendly about it. The Weir is a beautiful location with so much potential but there is zero management or quality control.

We’ve been coming here for a few years but it looks like the menu has changed. It really needs a children’s menu with set prices rather than the ‘we can make anything’ approach as it ends up being really expensive for individual items. My breakfast came with fried eggs. They were swimming in oil and I also had a complimentary black hair in it. The toast came dry, with no butter. The latte was lukewarm but was nice. Food service was not quick and drink came delivered split in the saucer. Nice venue though. Just a shame the menu and service is now lack lustre.

We decided to pop into the weir this morning for some food and a nice hot drink whilst out for a walk. I ordered a hot chocolate and a strawberry milkshake for my daughter, I found the hot chocolate tasted extremely watery so I went in to ask and I found out they are charging £3.85 for a hot chocolate out of a machine. It’s such a lazy way to make a drink in a cafe from a machine and I’ve never seen or heard anything like it before. They have a huge barista machine there perfect for making drinks but I can only assume the owners have advised otherwise. I wasn’t thrilled that the milkshakes were crusher syrup either, they are disgusting. My sister ordered breakfast at 11:45 and I was just after her at 11:46 to be told the kitchen was closed until 12, I didn’t get my food until well after my sister had finished hers. I work in a busy kitchen myself providing breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is no need to close for 15 minutes in between each service, it wasn’t very busy but the people who were here trying to order food at the same time were extremely disappointed by this. I am local too and we pop into the weir occasionally for food and drinks but I have to say I will not be rushing back and when I do return I will be checking the drinks aren’t made from a machine.

There's a small children's play area with table and chairs outside. You make your choice and order at the counter. We had 2 cream teas - 1 with plain scones and 1 fruit (£15.90), took around 20 mins to arrive. We had lunch here on a rare rainy day during our week holidaying in North Cornwall. It was lovely to get a table by the window and be able to look out onto the canal/nature reserve. We were attracted to eat here by some of the different veggie options on the menu. My partner had the Louisiana Cajun veggie burger which he said was tasty. I had the roasted red pepper and feta flatbread with wild garlic pesto. It was very tasty but let down a bit by the flatbread which for me was too large and would have been much nicer had it been warmed or toasted as it was a bit chewy cold. Can't fault the flavours though or the presentation and it's nice to see some different options on the menu to the usual run of the mill veggie burgers.

The food is great quality but it looks like they overextended themselves with a large takeaway order to the neglect of those inside. While waiting our 45 minutes, the music was pretty awful the a loud bass sound booming away, more fitting for a nightclub than a relaxing meal. Farmhouse breakfast tasted great but it wasn't hot except for the sausages. The toasted teacakes was good. Will go back next time we are in Devon so I hope this issue is sorted by then as I think the place is lovely, the staff looked a bit harassed but I guess the wait didn't help them, and the food seems really good.

The BBQ evenings with their tomahawk steaks and equally their veggie offerings are not to be missed, the local DJs they bring in give a nice chill vibe. During the day there are lots of dog walkers, so dogs are welcome. Fun kids park for ages up to around 10 or 12 plus a fair amount of grass for older kids to knock a ball about etc. Parking is at the bottom of the hill on the left, walk up the road in winter months as the suggested path is often very boggy.

Beautiful lake/ countryside views, food OK, standard brekkie fare, but on the expensive side. Staff pleasant, atmosphere a little sterile.

Lovely location, nice open space in the dining area. There's a lake and children's play area outside (perfect on a good weather day) The food was lovely and the staff were friendly. My granddaughter was so happy, she told the girl behind the counter that she lived her 😂

Disappointing visit compared to last time. Lack of coordination between front of house and kitchen. Lunch ordered, after a while was no they had no jacket potatoes. Two cheese teas arrived, had to ask for milk for tea. Had to ask about sandwich order to be told, cheese teas completed by bar staff everything else is a kitchen order. Waitress asked and never returned with a expected time for other orders. Sandwich and other order followed, cheese teas almost eaten. No other reason given why 4 orders couldn't come out at the same time, wasn't that busy. Disappointing, will think twice before returning.

Been here several times but was quite disappointed yesterday, although there was quite a few staff members about none greeted us with a smile or attempted to make eye contact and acknowledge our presence there. The young lady on the till was quite miserable no smile whatsoever. When our drinks were brought and cutlery, the forks were dirty, the glass for s cold drink all marked so wasn’t used, and the floor all around table was very messy. Staff really need some training on how to deal with the public, maybe it’s because they were young but still they need to be more pleasant.

First time we have been here for Sunday Roast. Was a bit dubious. But, I was proved completely wrong. Had the poussin, gorgeous, so were triple cooked toasties, cauliflower and broccoli cheese, glazed carrots, I could go on. Now waiting for creme Brule. Oh, the Juggling Jem cocktail was scrumptious as well. Brilliant atmosphere as well. Well done guys!

Very nice up market hotel a converted grandhouse. Beautiful. architecture interiors designed to match. It was a very comfortable stay, well appointed room. Lots of parking, does have that "no lift" issue, be aware the upper floors could be a problem. The restaurant was solid, but pretty limited menu. Standard breakfast included, cooked to order. Solid local option.Wi fi secure.

I remembered reading great reviews on this place, so after a hard day at work, walking past the shop I decided to try it as a take away. I was so disappointed with the Katsu Veg curry. The taste was quite nice but the consistency was mush and most of it was made up of peas! Half of it in fact was peas and had the distinct reminder of school dinners.
