Would have put 0 if I could. Dreadful food, four of six lunches returned. Seafood linguine wasn’t linguine and had cold lumps of pasta in the middle! One was then microwaved and returned again - dreadful. Two burgers were inedible. All in all a dreadful experience! Would never go there again. They obviously rely on passing holiday trade as certain no locals will support it!!!

After walking for an hour from Bude, along the canals-tow path, we aimed to have a cream tea at The Weir. Although it was the East bank holiday Saturday, at around 2pm, we were amazed they’d already run out of all the scones; tha5 is cheese scones, fruit scones, and plain scones. Apparently they ran out on the Friday, and had no resources to bake any more throughout the weekend. Unbelievable. Surely any cafe over a bank holiday would make sure they had sufficient food, especially scones to cover the weekend, and if they ran out and really couldn’t bake any more; go out to a local supermarket and buy some!!! We ordered a crab and prawn sandwich, which was ok, but not really the point!

From the website this looked an ideal lunch destination. So we booked for lunch and walked from Bude along the canal. I chose the fishcake and my partner the gammon ham. When the fishcake arrived it looked ideal for me as I'm not a big eater. However, all that I could see or taste was mashed potato, I thought £17 a bit rich for a potato cake. I left most of it. The sauce that accompanied it was very tasty, however no sign of the samphire. My husband asked for the pineapple chutney, part of his meal, to be told they'd run out. The response to our feedback was a shrug and the person walked away.

Service was incredibly slow. Our food arrived 1.5 hours after we did! It took about half an hour for our order to be taken and another hour for the food to arrive and it was 2 sandwiches and a salad so not even anything that needed cooking. One of the sandwiches was requested to be made using gluten free bread but when it arrived and we checked with the waitress that it was GF, she said it wasn't and it had to go back and be remade, hence a further wait. The food was good but the wait and the wrong bread were unacceptable.

Hadn’t been back since summer 23 after some really poor food and service. Dropped in for a coffee and cake after a walk along the canal, and sadly it still wasn’t a match for the many good places in the town. The coffee was tasteless, and staff very vague about allergens. It is a shame as this was a lovely place at one time but it has really slipped since the current owners took over. Chatting to other locals the food experience is very variable and not dependable It is also starting to look a bit run down particularly in the outdoor area. Such a shame but won’t be rushing back despite walking along the canal on a very regular basis

We came for Valentine's dinner and were blown away by the quality of each course. Normally we'll have 2 courses; however, the standard of the first two courses meant we were definitely not going to miss out on a dessert (photo included). I don't normally take photos of meals, but it was too imaginative, as were the starter and main courses. Everyone was cheerful, friendly and I was particularly impressed one person remembered a comment id made when making the booking 😉 To conclude, we had a wonderful experience at The Weir.

Not a good experience at the curry and quiz night. Only three tables booked nevertheless a forty minute wait for food, which was then served Luke warm. The lamb curry served with a lentil.curry and an overdone lamb chop stood upright in the middle lol. The food was taken away and microwaved which made the lamb inedible, though we did try with my swiss army knife. Very sad because despite the lack of numbers the quiz was fun and the front of house staff tried very hard.

Nice setting, nice clean modern restaurant. Service on arrival taking order very prompt. The staff are smart and polite. Very dog friendly with outside seating available for all. However although it was surprisingly very quiet when we ordered after waiting 35 mins for our food which was a cold meat platter and a portion of onion rings we were not happy. I asked about the food order and was told that there was a normal minimum wait time of 30 mins. We should really have been warned of this at time of ordering !!! Also WHY ? They were not busy !!! Amazingly the food then arrived. To say disappointed is an understatement. There was no butter for the bread on the platter, when we asked for some it arrived so cold it was unspreadable, the onion rings were all batter, tasteless with very little onion inside. I do not think we will be eating here again. Such a shame

I’ve been going to the weir for 10 years now and it has had its ups and downs . The latest menu isn’t for everyone but I’ve been enjoying it as a treat every now and then for lunch or a cream tea . I know they had some issues with coffee coming out cold a little while ago but today was a whole new low. I ordered my latte as I always do but was served up a cup of warm milk with a dash of coffee coming through. They now have Cornish coffee company machines - no barista made coffee now., just bland out the machine when you press the button bog standard coffee you find in a buffet in a budget hotel or service station. No textured milk , no flavour. I’ve no problem with Cornish coffee company and buy the beans for my own machine sometimes but this isn’t worth the money they charge. I’ve had barista training and I know the difference between press the button coffee machines and barista made coffee so I resented being told this is ‘ just my personal preference’ - it’s simply a fact that they are different things. I’m still going to visit but I am sad they are cutting costs on quality like this . Why go for a more sophisticated menu ( and pricing) and then lose credibility with rubbish coffee machines … strange !

We had a few pizzas (takeaway) and they were very nice but disappointed that they now serve nothing but pizza every evening. So we decided to stop off for a quick bite to eat and a coffee here as we occasionally do every couple of months... and it's changed! I'm not sure for the better either. Firstly the cafe service has disappeared and has been replace by very slow table service, the prices seem 25% more expensive (£12 for a sandwich?) than before and the coffee has gone down hill a fair bit. On a positive note the chicken sandwich was really very nice but I'm not sure it was £12 nice. Is any sandwich? Much as I love the place, and have been popping in since it opened, I'm honestly not sure I will be back for a while. Shame really.

Arrived for lunch approx 12.30 and found a nice table out the front looking over the stunning views. Popped up to a staff member to ask for a few menus which she happily gave us . The four of us,two adults and two teens( plus are two doggos) deliberated for sometime over what we were wanting to eat. The menu has lovely options! I popped in to make our order but was greeted with a chalkboard sign saying’ No service at the bar’. So I found another member of staff , who informed me it was complete table service. Fantastic! However rather surprised that if that was the case why had we be waiting in excess of 35 minutes for someone to come to the table. Eventually someone came to take our order. I also asked for a bowl of water for the dogs. 20 minutes later our (wrong) drinks order arrived. They offered to change it but at this point I was just grateful to have a drink . I asked again for a bowl of water for the doggos which they provide. Food arrived 15 minutes later (so at this point we had been waiting over an hour) fish and chips, which was absolutely delicious, nice and hot and really yummy , once we got to eat it as it arrived with no cutlery! After finding a staff member it was another 5 minutes before our cutlery arrived. While the food was scrummy, the service ruined the entire experience. The Weir was recommended by a friend who is local so I have a feeling the poor service is a new thing. It wasn’t a staffing issue as there were plenty of staff around and the bistro wasn’t busy . When you are paying in excess of £120 for lunch you expect decent service . Its a shame really as it’s perfect location to go with dogs and kids as there is also a playground

Went to the Weir on two occasions early August, once for a snack lunch with my wife and then an evening meal with my family. The lunch was very nice - sitting outside with relaxing, wonderful location, relaxed service and a lovely ploughman's that we shared. Decided to visit the following Friday for evening meal with my parents so booked a table for their BBQ evening. Unfortunately a different experience. After about an hour my father enquired about our food. The waiter was very apologetic advising that it was being plated shortly and gave my father a complimentary glass of wine. There was a lack of clarity on the accompaniment's to the pork dish - I heard the table beside us also query this, so we were give a complementary portion of chips. The brown butter on the pork tasted just like oil - no buttery or nutty taste. Everything that had been put through the fat fryer tasted very oily like the fryer was not up to temperature. A sign of things not being right was the children leaving chips and onion rings!! Five mains were had and unfortunately only one did not receive questioning comments. We raised this when settling the bill and while serving staff were apologetic and discount was given the senior managements attitude was very dismissive.

As we were staying in the cottages at whalesborough we booked the ‘grill and chill’ for the Friday evening. It was our one meal out on our holiday so we were really looking forward to the ‘live music’ and the menu looked great. It couldn’t have been further from expectations. ‘Live music’ is a speaker under a gazebo in the garden We ordered our food while sat in the garden but the wait (it wasn’t busy) was close to an hour so we had to move inside as the temperature had dropped. It was challenging to find a table not swarming with flies around the sauce bottles left on the tables. Eventually our food arrived, my daughter’s pasta and my chicken gyros were both cold. I mentioned to the waiter, no apology just that they would recook it by which point my children were too tired to wait so we ate it cold. The chicken in the gyro was so overcooked (ironic as it was cold). It was almost inedible. Definitely not worth £19! Ridiculously overpriced, even if it had been hot. I told the waiter when I paid that I wasn’t happy with the price we were paying for cold food and again, no apology, just told they could have recooked it. On reflection I should have pushed harder as I can quite believe how much money I have spent on such poor quality food and service. I heard another couple saying they were unhappy and were letting them know as others wouldn’t be so friendly about it. The Weir is a beautiful location with so much potential but there is zero management or quality control.

We come here every year when staying with family, we like the walk along the canal, we visited yesterday and were a bit dissapointed with the new menu, not as much choice as previously, limited cake selection and had to ask twice for knives for the Ploughmans. Will still come back but not as good as usual.

We’ve been coming here for a few years but it looks like the menu has changed. It really needs a children’s menu with set prices rather than the ‘we can make anything’ approach as it ends up being really expensive for individual items. My breakfast came with fried eggs. They were swimming in oil and I also had a complimentary black hair in it. The toast came dry, with no butter. The latte was lukewarm but was nice. Food service was not quick and drink came delivered split in the saucer. Nice venue though. Just a shame the menu and service is now lack lustre.

Lovely place for a quick "pit stop" whilst walking along or near Bude Canal. Beautiful outdoor seating with views over large fishing lake. Clean, modern indoor seating also available. Dog bowls scattered about outside for use of four legged friends. Outdoor play area for children. Lovely good quality snacks and meals available all day. Evening dining also available.

We were staying in Bude and walked along the canal from Bube to the Wier ( a couple of miles) and called in for a coffee, we sat outside and enjoyed the view over the lake. The drinks were lovely and the staff was very friendly and helpful and also the Wier Bistro is dog friendly. Relaxing place with outdoor and indoor seating options, a kids play area.

The Weir very kindly accommodated us with having our wedding there. Not only were we able to have a fantastic reception there, we were also able to say our vows in front of the beautiful lake. It was a beautiful evening. They provided a BBQ buffet with steaks, burgers and salads and the food was really good. The drinks were at a very good price as well. Their service on the evening was amazing. Thank you to The Weir for hosting an evening we will never forget!

Breakfast lol. Really rubbish . I have had breakfast in every place in Bude over the years I have lived in Bude and yep honestly nope not even a 2 on my out of ten list . Sorry but it's not hard cooking breakfast . But it's easy to bugger on up . Old mushrooms will do just that twenty minutes after eating I was thinking omg I need the loo and I only just managed to get to the loo .. Not the best experience. The tea came out with the young lasdes thumb in the cup. I observed the counter staff Constantly touching their faces and even pick the nose.. Lovely ,! This was my experience so I'm sure others have had better , and I really do hope so.

Friendly and efficient staff. Good coffee and a really well sized breakfast (we had the smaller farmhouse breakfast). Great quality products. And a lovely view of the lake.

We decided to pop into the weir this morning for some food and a nice hot drink whilst out for a walk. I ordered a hot chocolate and a strawberry milkshake for my daughter, I found the hot chocolate tasted extremely watery so I went in to ask and I found out they are charging £3.85 for a hot chocolate out of a machine. It’s such a lazy way to make a drink in a cafe from a machine and I’ve never seen or heard anything like it before. They have a huge barista machine there perfect for making drinks but I can only assume the owners have advised otherwise. I wasn’t thrilled that the milkshakes were crusher syrup either, they are disgusting. My sister ordered breakfast at 11:45 and I was just after her at 11:46 to be told the kitchen was closed until 12, I didn’t get my food until well after my sister had finished hers. I work in a busy kitchen myself providing breakfast, lunch and dinner and there is no need to close for 15 minutes in between each service, it wasn’t very busy but the people who were here trying to order food at the same time were extremely disappointed by this. I am local too and we pop into the weir occasionally for food and drinks but I have to say I will not be rushing back and when I do return I will be checking the drinks aren’t made from a machine.

We stopped here at lunchtime (just after 12), having walked along the canal from Bude - takes around 50 mins. It's a lovely setting, by a fishing lake, with ducks and geece grazing. There's a small children's play area with table and chairs outside. You make your choice and order at the counter. We had 2 cream teas - 1 with plain scones and 1 fruit (£15.90), took around 20 mins to arrive. The scones were warmed, small pot of jam for each scone and plenty of delicious cornish clotted cream and a big pot of tea.

We had lunch here on a rare rainy day during our week holidaying in North Cornwall. It was lovely to get a table by the window and be able to look out onto the canal/nature reserve. We were attracted to eat here by some of the different veggie options on the menu. My partner had the Louisiana Cajun veggie burger which he said was tasty. I had the roasted red pepper and feta flatbread with wild garlic pesto. It was very tasty but let down a bit by the flatbread which for me was too large and would have been much nicer had it been warmed or toasted as it was a bit chewy cold. Can't fault the flavours though or the presentation and it's nice to see some different options on the menu to the usual run of the mill veggie burgers.

£7 for a luke warm ciabatta with ice cold mozzerella in lumps with freezing cold tomato. Never again, I have been here 3 or 4 times and it is sadly always the same. Nice brownies, but sadly that is it.

I remembered reading great reviews on this place, so after a hard day at work, walking past the shop I decided to try it as a take away. I was so disappointed with the Katsu Veg curry. The taste was quite nice but the consistency was mush and most of it was made up of peas! Half of it in fact was peas and had the distinct reminder of school dinners.
