Ahh the Port William! I’m not a pub goer but I’m a Port William regular! Is it the most spectacular location? Or the friendly staff ? The puppachino ? The most incredible sunsets behind gull rock? The glorious tidal beach where you can delight in a walk or watch the crashing waves on a stormy night? The great variety of gin and local brews ? The delicious food served with local flare ? The fact that it’s on the Kernow coastal salt path? It might be the live music ? No .. it’s the best ever welcome from Mary Fudge !

Googled this and stumbled across an amazing restaurant with amazing views. We're looking for something to end our evening and amazing weekend in Devon and we found it! So random, and not booked. Turned up to see a beautiful coast line and watch the sunset to then go to a very hospitable warm welcome in a beautiful restaurant with amazing views and superb food. Loved it and will be one on our list to visit back. We didn't stay at the hotel.

The perfect location if you love the sea, the view from our room is not equalled anywhere in the world I have visited. Touching distance away and we were lucky to be there when the sea was lively. The Port William is a beautiful building and is tastefully decorated with a nautical theme. The menu consisted of some classics and very tasty chefs creations. I need to stay longer than three days to experience all the menu choices. Superb breakfast menu covered all the bases with high quality ingredients. The service was exceptional with everyone we encountered friendly and engaging which made the experience more personal than service. Highly recommended, very dog friendly and so and far (67 years old) my favourite I have had the pleasure to visit. Just to finish all off this is on the South West Coast path which provides fantastic views and excerise to work off the Port William gastronomic delights

Just another beautiful Cornish gem! As we made the trip from St. Austell in January there was plenty of free parking. We sat and watched the tide go out revealing areas of pristine sand. Had lunch at the Port William Inn. Great venue, great service, poor food unfortunately. But I would go back and sit outside on a sunny spring day with a pint if I took my own crab sandwiches 😉

We stayed at The Port William Friday and Saturday night in January. We choose this place due to its location to the coast and its positioning right at the side of Trebarwith Beach and the promise of a sea view and relaxing atmosphere. We were not disappointed! This is a lovely spot right on the SW Coast Path and only a few miles walk into Tintagel. The rooms were small but cosy and more than adequate for our stay. There is a small fridge stocked with items from the bar and nibbles - crisps, nuts (payable on checkout), kettle, nespresso machine, milk, sugar and gorgeous Furniss biscuits. There is a TV but we were happier watching the view of the ocean from our room window. The breakfasts were included in our booking - there is a basic continental breakfast - bread for toast, croissant, pain au choclat, cereals, yogurt and a selection of juices or you can pay for a cooked breakfast. We dined here on an evening and the service from all members of the team was excellent. We would love to come and stay here again as we had such a relaxing time where the staff obviously take pride in what they do to make your stay enjoyable

We enjoyed a 3 night stay in early Dec 24 - Storm Darragh. Despite the weather and a power outage, the staff ensured that we had a wonderful stay. Our room was compact but warm, clean and had everything we needed, included a great view. The restaurant/bar was tastefully decorated for Christmas and provided a great place to sit and relax in front of the fire. The food for the most part was great but there were a couple of dishes that were not so great and could not be eaten - Squid and prawn linguine and breakfast pancakes. Service was friendly and efficient for the most part but did depend on the shift. We'd definitely stay there again. The location is amazing, with cliff top walks available right outside the door - any nearer the sea and you'd need water wings.

We are celebrating a special 70th birthday lunch on Saturday and booked the 8 plus one in a high chair some months ago. Although a beautiful sunny day, the pub was very quiet; many were sitting in the sun outside. In the original booking, we were asked what the occasion was; I suspected there may be some effort with a small cake with a single candle or similar but there was no recognition so don't know why they wanted to know this on the booking. The location is wonderful and the reason for booking; we have been there many times for a drink and snack but this is the first time we have had a formal meal. I found the choice of menu limited - three beef items, fish and vegetarian. No 'normal' pub food or chicken, sausages (for children/children's menu - that I recall) and one of the fish items was no longer offered (we were not told this when the menu was presented). The area in the restaurant was cold (the front door was open) and it was probably warmer sitting in the sun outside. The service was a bit 'hit and miss'. Drinks were 'plonked' down by a waitress on the table and we then had to distribute them. There was no apparent finesse to the way the lady served us and most items hit the table with a bang! Our deserts arrived and then as an afterthought, we were passed our spoons (including soup spoons). The meal was not inexpensive and would have expected more care and choice for the price. We were staying in a nearby AirBnB where food venues/restaurants were recommended by previous guests. I commented at the time, why Port William was not included in this list. I now know why. They could do so much better for the obvious advantage and draw of people they have. I doubt many eat there a second time!

If you're put off by rain at any time of the year, you should rethink your priorities... the location is stunning and dramatic. The beach and the sea is literally a stones throw from the bar. First visited 14 years ago in the middle of a stormy evening and it reminded me of a scene from a film, warm and friendly respite from the elements made even warmer by the hearty and well thought menu with perfect portion sizes for starters, mains and desserts. Dog friendly as well in all seasons. We love it.

Went for a family meal tonight, first time at this location and pub. The views were great and worth the trip. However, the food and the staff were not worth the visit and based on this certainly won’t be back. The staff wasn’t tentative at all to their tables and when you clearly wanted to make eye contact they looked the other way. They got our starters wrong, I tried to get the attention of member of staff to make them aware, the girl looking after our table was looking after another table at the time and the other waitress clearly ignored me because it wasn’t a table she was looking after.. just rude and bone idle. I made a complaint to another staff member to say we hadn’t got our starters.. after trying to get someone’s attention for a good 5 mins he said he would sort it. 5 mins later the girl looking after our table came across to say we didn’t order the starter which wasn’t the case at all.. her attitude wasn’t great at all and she said she didn’t see us trying to get her attention which I did say I agree with as I could see her looking after another table at the time. I explained it was the other waitress who was to blame as she clearly saw us wanting attention but wasn’t interested as it wasn’t her table. The waitress talking to us just said “right ok” being rude and I stopped her and said it wasn’t ok. We told her to forget the starters at this point as clearly it was our fault she couldn’t take a simple order and blamed my wife. 5 mins later I could see the two waitresses having a full blown discussion about the conversation i had just had both looking over and rolling their eyes. Absolutely disgusting level of service.. To top it off the food came and it was bloody awful to boot. We spent £150 on bread as a starter and 4 main courses and a kids meal and we had two waitresses rolling their eyes at us in the process. I hope the management read this post as this is a clear reflection of them with their poor customer service and awful food for what they are charging a hell of a lot for. I just paid the the bill and left.. if I had complained I would have spoiled my manners with the two spoiled brats serving us and how they carried on. It was better for them and us I paid and left. If I can be any help to others reading this.. go for a pint, enjoy the views.. give the food and staff a wide birth and grab some fish and chips on the way to or back from this place. Food and more so the staff a total disgrace.

Must try and must visit. Located right on the side of the cliff the restaurant offers great views with decent food. We had a great time, we drove here from Tintangel castle and drive was pretty good. There is a public parking lot almost 200ft away from the restaurant and it had quite a few parking places. We had crab starter it was good and the fish finger burger was great , lastly the chicken mains was decent, only problem was i didnt know it had pork too , but we set it aside and had the dish. Also we had to add salt and pepper to every dish on our own, would have been great if it had been prepared to basic taste at least. Nice pub, but whatever you do do not bring your own packet of nuts!!! Went here twice within two days and the second time, despite having spent about £1,000 in drinks and food across the table, were told by the incredibly rude manager to put a small packet of nuts away, even though they weren’t being eaten and were just sitting innocently on the table. When we laughed and suggested he must be joking (having spent £1,000 on food and drink) he threatened to throw us out and made us throw out the nuts for good measure. Cannot believe how rude someone can be, especially towards guests who had been there all day and spent a good deal of money across 2 days. Left a very sour taste in our mouths and we left immediately.

Pleasantly quiet and super evening sunset view from the bar window table. All of our table had fish and chips followed by desserts. Service and food was very good and I guess the highish price reflected the location and not the food. BUT what did disappoint us was the menu choice. As vegetarians (who eat some fish) please please give us meals without a vegan label. We all despair being lumped together with vegans. Vegan cheese with butternut squash- uhhh. Vegan feta with the salad - uhhh. Then there was the Redefine burger- what on earth is that. Perhaps an explanation of its ingredients would also help.

We had to argue to get our starter served as there were peppers in the olives which if my wife eats she will feel sick. This is not life threatening and this was explained to staff. We are in the best position to determine if the peppers served with the olives would harm us. That service was also underwhelming, the table behind us had their bill brought to the table whereas we were made to go to the bar to order or to pay. The staff ignore your presence absolutely. You'd think with so many review saying the same thing that the owner/s would make an effort to change. This place has a lot of potential. All of this being said, the views is amazing. You're better off going for just a drink.

7 of us visited last night for a birthday meal. We are locals and know the area well. Beautiful place and lovely views, staff were friendly... however!... the food is extremely overpriced for the pitiful portions we were served. The "supreme" chicken consisted of 4 slices of chicken, a blob of mash and a few bean sprouts for £19. The trout broth, a slither of trout in a somewhat flavoured water for £24!! We also ordered the fish and chips, steak and ale pie and the steak burger... none of us left feeling fed and most of us went home to eat again after. Please please save your money and visit a local pub in a neighbouring village, I promise you'll be left feeling full for half the price!

Some of the worst food I’ve had at a pub or restaurant in a long time… paid £20 for a roast which had a piece of chicken a potato one small parsnip and a massive Yorkshire pudding to cover up the tiny Portion. The added veg we had was raw and I would rather eat in a weatherspoons. Staff are all young and would rather be messing around behind the bar than actually serving people. Such a shame that we ended our day in this place as the location is stunning and this place is the absolute opposite. Would not recommend

Amazing place with incredible views, my only feedback is that recently the prices seem to have increased a lot! Also the menu choice seems a little limited for my tastes... but overall still a great place to eat, would return in a heartbeat!

This was a late lunch on Mother's Day so maybe staff stretched. But several items ordered were forgotten and the service was delayed overall. The restaurant is pleasant and the site and view amazing. The food was underwhelming.

This is an excellent, straightforward proper pub with good beer and great food. But the *really* great thing is the people - Aidan at the bar was super welcoming and made the whole experience great.

My dear friend brought my sister and I here after a long weekend at a festival, the food was amazing and hearty just what we needed after our weekend. Mary who I learnt has worked there for around 4 years found us the perfect seat with amazing views and looked after throughout our visit, nothing was to much trouble. Im looking forward to my next trip to Cornwall; to see my friends and visit here again to see Mary and the staff. I can't recommend enough. Ask for Mary she will look after you.

I remembered reading great reviews on this place, so after a hard day at work, walking past the shop I decided to try it as a take away. I was so disappointed with the Katsu Veg curry. The taste was quite nice but the consistency was mush and most of it was made up of peas! Half of it in fact was peas and had the distinct reminder of school dinners.

Fantastic cocktails but for an old fart like me it was freezing, you wouldnt have thought it looking at the young chaps in tight t shirts and the young ladies in belt like miniskirts and just bras but there you go. Great drinkies but really quiet for a Friday (thankfully tbh)
