Port William Inn in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

This was a late lunch on Mother's Day so maybe staff stretched. But several items ordered were forgotten and the service was delayed overall. The restaurant is pleasant and the site and view amazing. The food was underwhelming.

This is an excellent, straightforward proper pub with good beer and great food. But the *really* great thing is the people - Aidan at the bar was super welcoming and made the whole experience great.

My dear friend brought my sister and I here after a long weekend at a festival, the food was amazing and hearty just what we needed after our weekend. Mary who I learnt has worked there for around 4 years found us the perfect seat with amazing views and looked after throughout our visit, nothing was to much trouble. Im looking forward to my next trip to Cornwall; to see my friends and visit here again to see Mary and the staff. I can't recommend enough. Ask for Mary she will look after you.

This pub is in an incredible location, and definitely not typical of Cornwall in November. Firstly it was open, secondly the ambience was great and thirdly the food and service was excellent.

Disappointed. Despite the wonderful view and it feeling like a truly Cornish setting, the Port William pub really let down the end to our weekend and we will not return to waste our money here again. My partner and I both decided to have the fish, chips and mushy peas. I was a little shocked to pay £45 for 2 x fish and chips and 2 x drinks but assumed it was going to be fitting for the standard of food. When served our food, I checked we had been served an adults £18.50 portion, not a child’s or the £12 lunch portion. I was told I was correct in thinking it was the £18.50 portion. The chips had clearly been refried/reheated. They were incredibly dry. The peas, described as mushy, were a spoonful of garden peas that had been a little bit squashed and again, reheated and dry. They were completely inedible. The fish was small, dry and tasteless. You can get better from the freezer aisle of a supermarket. I had a bite of everything and decided it was not worth the money so waited to speak to another member of staff. They were nowhere to be seen or were all too busy to talk. So we left our food and walked away feeling very disappointed. If you’re after a sub-standard meal to fuel you then here’s the place. The view is stunning, the pub sadly does not meet this. There are plenty of other places in the area that offer a similar view but a far, far better meal.

We visited Port William for a last minute Sunday Roast and was not disappointed! We booked on the day for a table of 8, Mary-Anne served us and was extremely helpful and polite. The restaurant is gorgeous with views overlooking the sea cliffs with a warm log burner. Would recommend the chicken roast (10/10 from us!) and worth adding the cauliflower cheese. We chose Port William based on other reviews. We lucked out as when we got there we discovered their was music on. We had pre-booked so had a table and the reception and initial service was good. Starter was good. Main course - less so. I ordered mackerel. To be honest, I don’t think a fish that small can be called a mackerel — I question whether it should have been caught. My Mother-in-Law asked if I had ordered sardine! And….3 slices of the same potatoe don’t really count as “ potatoes”. A load of salad and Olives dont really cover for a measly piece of fish. My friends ordered fish & chips and were happy ….. so maybe I was unlucky…. But I still felt robbed. Nice pub….. shame about the fish…..,

The Port William's location is simply stunning. The view of the sea from our room was hypnotic. We both took turns sitting in the window seat, gazing out at the endlessly fascinating seascape, watching the amazing waves, surfers and sea birds. At night, the blazing starry firmament was almost overwhelming. Our room was spotlessly clean, warm, cosy and very well equipped with a Tassimo, hair dryer, wide screen TV and the fluffiest of towels. The full English breakfast was a substantial feast, with PROPER sausages (obviously essential!) We dined two evenings in the restaurant, where a varied and eclectic menu offered Dover Sole (tasting like it had been caught a few minutes before) and the best steaK that I had ever eaten, (EVER!) The staff were a major feature of why we're giving a five star review.. We were initially welcomed by a delightfully elegant Irish lady called Mary. She was smilingly efficient and nothing was too much trouble. She gave the impression that she really was delighted to be a positive part of our Port William experience. Unfortunately, we didn't catch the names of all of the bar and waiting staff, but they were all ruthlessly professional yet very personable and happy to chat. So, we've decided that, despite a five hour journey, The Port William will be an annual pilgrimage to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We think that this is the highest accolade we could bestow and very well deserved.

Friendly and helpful staff, good food and all in fab location. Service was a bit slow for our first course but all good other than that.
