Lawrance's Bakery & Bar in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Saw this place on social media and was very excited to try. I have to say the cakes are nothing like you see online and in person they’re very disappointing.

Honestly just want to let people know not to waste your time on this place! Disgraceful to be honest, don’t believe what you see on social media! Cakes were dry and tasted out of date. We were really looking forward to our afternoon however a few hours after leaving my daughter was unwell. I would give 0 stars if I could, we won’t be returning.

Coffee and cake was fab - service with a smile!

Sadly as a coeliac I was unable to enjoy a brownie as the gluten free brownies were displayed immediately next to and under foods containing gluten. Therefore there was a high risk of cross contamination. Sadly this happens in too many places. Despite this the cocktails, staff and atmosphere are great. I just wish I could enjoy one of the gluten free brownies.

I usually get the smoothie bowls, which when done right, are fantastic. Unfortunately, they’ve become inconsistent over the last couple of months. From portion size, number of ingredients and flavour of the actual smoothie. It’s a £9 smoothie bowl and it’s a lottery whether or not the bowl is full to the brim, or barely covering the bottom. For the money, I’d expect a decent amount of smoothie each time otherwise you’re pretty much left with a bowl of dry stuff, which isn’t nice to eat. I’m disabled so tend to order on Deliveroo, this is another issue, as they have gone from being available on there every day, to sporadically. If I’m lucky they’re available once a week and as I struggle to walk and work from home, means that I can’t eat there. I’m not sure why they’ve stopped going live on there, but seems like they’re going to be losing out on a fair bit of business. Whatever changes have been made there have lowered the quality, which is a shame because Lawrence’s used to be on of the best places to eat in Truro.

Although the bar on Old Bridge Street is very nice, I tend to visit the bakery on Little Castle Street as it is close to my work. The cakes are all delicious and the coffee always very good. The staff are always very happy to help, and have often personalised cakes and pastries for me and made the most beautiful cupcakes for an event. Summer and Iona are usually there and always make the experience great with their cheerful smiles and friendly chat, always helpful.

The smallest past its sell by date Bagel ! …smoked salmon , 2 leaves of rocket and a piece of pickled something ..staff serving struggled to find a welcoming and friendly vibe ……grim …. £8.50…..

Excellent cocktails and so cheap.

Upon ordering the bacon bagel with rocket + tomato sauce or brown, i asked for no sauce. Waitress asks if i would like butter and rocket to which I reply, yes please, only a little butter. Came out in 5 minutes (good timing but I like my bacon cooked) so much uncooked fat, dripping in butter and no rocket. I ask why and get told I said no to rocket with only a little butter?! So what is all this butter I've scrapped off?! Couldn't be bothered to argue further, waitress only interested in a male customer and the male "chef" just couldn't wait to be out of the kitchen. I wont go again. Cakes are good but forget lunch

Very welcoming. Very cosy on a wet Sunday afternoon. It seems very popular.

I ordered the Halloween box and I was so excited but unfortunately I was really disappointed 😔 the cakes were really dry and the only item that was eaten was the brownie but there was only one brownie and the rest had to be thrown away. The brownie was really nice though!

We arrived in Falmouth on a very rainy day with our dog and this was the first place we saw that served coffee so jumped in. The decor is very tasteful and decadent and we were surprised that there were not more people in especially as it was lunchtime. Im guessing that unlike us everyone had stayed in on such a wet day! The choice of brownies, rocky roads, cookie pies as well as vegan options and flapjacks was so overwhelming I really felt I was in cake heaven! The service was very friendly and efficient and they had no qualms that our dog was soaked sat under the table. Along with our coffee and chosen cakes which were very generous in size we left full for the rest of the day on a sugar high!

Absolutely beautiful chocolate cupcakes made especially for my Mums birthday! Could not be happier with how they were presented, how they tasted and with the service at Lawrances. 5* all around, plus the brownies were amazing too! Will definitely be back soon 😊 x

Ordered 2 drinks and two cakes from the display. 30 minutes later they turned up. At time of arriving in the cafe there was only 7 other people in the cafe. The chai latte was very hot, good, but no handle on the cup, and too hot to pick up. Er, basic error. Asked for sugar. Didn't get any. Staff in cloud cuckoo land.

Love popping in here for the smoothie bowls they're delicious. The cakes are also really tasty! The staff are really friendly and welcoming too.

We went there for some coffee and we loved it there. Lovely service, great coffee and price, beautiful view from the top, and nice, cozy place.

Great timing as arrived at happy hour! 5pm last Thursday. Quirky! Beautiful cake selection. Lots of drinks/cocktails available. Very small premises set out on 3 floors. Old building, steep narrow staircases - staff bring drinks up to you....thank heavens! Highly recommend - I loved it!

My friends and I were really excited to try the bottomless brunch. We went for my birthday at the weekend. The food was lovely, beautifully displayed, lovely and fresh however there were some disappointments. When we arrived the food was already laid out but we waited 22 mins before we were served to take our first drinks order. We also had to ask for cutlery and whilst there was the ingredients for smoothie bowls, there were no bowls or spoons which we had to go to the counter to ask for. We had to attract attention of staff to order the next drink some half hour later. The third drink order wasn’t taken until our 90 mins was up. Thankfully we were not charged extra for this. Whilst I wasn’t expecting to get ‘legless’, I feel ‘bottomless brunch’ is somewhat false advertising. The drinks did not flow and for the £30 per person price tag, it’s a little steep given you have to ask for another drink. I did however enjoy the brunch and am not seeking anything other than to offer my feedback so that others aren’t left feeling a tad disappointed.

Came to the Falmouth branch for brunch. Really great brunch menu for sweet and savoury options. Bagels were really great and the banana bread was equally delicious. Great coffee and friendly staff, will definitely come again!

My fiancée and I love, love, loveeeeee this place! The vibes are perfect for us and the drinks are amazing! The menu food is what it is but it's nice that they have any at all for a bakery. Their cakes are super delicious too and I love the creativity. It does get a little crammed and stuffy inside but on a quiet day it's a beautiful little hangout.

Visited the Falmouth store (unable to find on trip advisor for this location) great brownies… absolutely amazing and fairly priced! Great hot chocolate too! Visited about midday and got our order to take away- such a shame to see the bakery so empty! Beautiful location and beautiful store… very stylish, trendy and instagramable! Will definitely return and sit in when we have more time!

Popped in to buy cakes to takeaway and so glad we did, they are absolutely delicious. We had Terry's choc orange rocky road, billionaires slice, double choc brownie and a white choc and cranberry cookie in a box to go. Absolutely decadent and last a while as you can only eat a bit at a time! worth every penny.

Blooming lovely!! Their cakes are amazing, the coffee is great and the staff are very sweet and helpful. Very reasonably priced, also service alcohol too. Highly recommended.

Went into Lawrances with my mum for some coffee- really friendly staff when I went up to order and massive selection of cakes which are really well priced! Found out that they are open into the evening so there’s always somewhere for coffee and cake when other places normally shut around 4. I had the matcha and it was the best matcha I’ve had in a long time! will definitely be back soon to try some of the cakes:)

We were excited to go here after seeing posts on Facebook and hearing about peoples enjoyment. Sadly its just overpriced cake. The girl on the counter sighed when I asked for the 4 cakes purchased to be in separate bags too like it was hassle for her. For almost £20 I don't feel a few paper bags were a difficult request.

We visited the Falmouth branch last night (24/09/22) and the staff made it an unpleasant experience. The girl who served us was wearing blue denim jeans and had brown hair. She was rude and treated us like we were an inconvenience to her which made us feel quite uncomfortable. She had a real attitude when she spoke to us and didn’t smile at all or even say hello. You could really tell how much she hated her job. The place looks so lovely but unfortunately we will not be going there again due to the really poor service. I’ve seen a few reviews saying about the poor service and it’s a shame nothings been done to fix it.

The Chocolate Billionaire and Kinda Bueno slices are to literally die for and you get a huge slice that would have to be eaten in 2 parts for the price of a coffee! Am going to make my way through all the delicious different cakes over time! They taste just as good as they look as I've found in certain places all that glitters is not gold.. They're mocha coffees are delicious too..

Me and my sister came here to try their smoothie bowls. They turned out to be surprisingly filling, which was nice! The smoothie was probably made with some frozen fruit, hence, it was quite icey, and we didn't mind that. They came in those "instagrammable" coconut bowls, which aren't the most pragmatic, but didn't bother us; they added a tropical aesthetic. We also had a black coffee and a chai latte, and while the former was terrible, the chai was very nice and smooth. The decor was nice, the interior, unfortunately though, was not the cleanest. Most tables and some chairs had crumbs on them. Too bad, because it would've been an easy fix! Overall, 4 out of 5.

I visit Lawrances in Truro regularly and they make excellent food, cakes and cocktails. So, for our work’s third birthday, we asked them to come and do us a grazing table for 20 people. It went down an absolute treat! The food was all delicious! Excellent quality cheese and olives, delicious sweet treats and a huge variety of things to nibble on. They seamlessly created designated GF and veggie areas too, which was hugely appreciated. Everyone was absolutely stuffed and there was enough food for people to take stuff home too. We were very happy with the speed and friendliness of the service too. Thanks so so much! 10/10 recommend.

Went into the Falmouth shop yesterday for lunch with family members who were visiting and have to say it was lovely, friendly helpful staff, food was excellent drinks were very nice too.

Was super excited for a brunch with my girlfriends here but left really disappointed. The lady behind the counter was borderline rude, seemed totally uninterested and definitely didn’t want to be there that day. Smoothie bowls came out delivered by a smiley lady who must have been working in the back so that was nice but the smoothie bowls were served in the most ridiculous bowls it was laughable, couldn’t put them down as they rocked all over the place and the smoothies were so watery it would go everywhere, smoothies were not great tasting either, would not recommend, go for a bagel as that’s the only other thing on their menu. Saving Grace was their coffee tasted so good, unfortunately served in a cup with no handle which was a bit weird!

New to Truro, lucky I found this gem. I never leave a review, but this was worthy of one. If you’re looking for a decent breakfast the bagels are ace! I will return on another flying visit. Coffee was decent too.

Wanting to find just a nice simple menu for lunch. Which was harder than you think in Truro. Thankfully, even though off the beaten track slightly we found here. Great service. Will be back.

Popped into Lawrence’s today for the 4th time, have to say after using a number of coffee shops in Truro that this is the best quality of service I’ve had for a long time.

Fabulous wedding cake at pretty short notice. The rustic semi-naked cake was exactly what we wanted. Lucy even went to the trouble of getting the exact flowers from my bouquet to decorate the cake and tie everything in. Also very reasonable price - usually when you say “wedding” the price shoots up! Would definitely recommend!

Hands down the best bakery and bar there is... have visited many times for a coffee and cake on the run, a full lunch date with friends and family and have spent many evenings there enjoying all of their yummy cocktails!! Definitely the best destination...

Fantastic friendly service with the best cakes going!!! Brilliant prices on the bar and adapted really well due to covid-19 offering great customer service and deliveries with their cakes from their online shop. Follow them on Instagram and you will want to buy their cakes! They deserve to do really well and big up Lucy & Phil!

Very friendly and cosy bar but the cakes that Lucy makes are to die for! A truly brilliant business that deserves to do well because of the quality, customer service and sheer hard work. The team have been amazing throughout the lockdown and we cannot recommend them highly enough. Thank you.

Truly fantastic team. The country is going through a tough time and the Lawrance's team was able to get a cake to a man who faces spending his 80th Birthday alone. Beautiful and delicious cakes, and it could not have been made easier. Cannot recommend enough. Thank you 🥰

The range of hot lunches is limited but the two cheese and Parma ham toasted sandwiches we had were very good. Nice coffee.
