Very nice up market hotel a converted grandhouse. Beautiful. architecture interiors designed to match. It was a very comfortable stay, well appointed room. Lots of parking, does have that "no lift" issue, be aware the upper floors could be a problem. The restaurant was solid, but pretty limited menu. Standard breakfast included, cooked to order. Solid local option.Wi fi secure.

We booked a table here on a Saturday night expecting a full menu to be offered, when we arrived, only the simple menu was offered! apparently the head chef was ill, then why not tell us this when we booked. We had already ordered two gin and tonics at the bar, before being seated, so we enjoyed these and decided to eat elsewhere. Not a problem, they kindly told us the drinks were on the house, by way of an apology. Yes we will eat here again, but will check which menu is available that night!

This 1st part is specifically for room #19 (one of the basement “budget” rooms): This room is in the downstairs corner. It is incredibly small. The (super comfortable) double bed takes up the entire room. There is no chair…just a very shallow closet and two end tables; one of which holds the coffee machine. So, be prepared to walk over your luggage constantly. There is a small television mounted on the wall. The bathroom is actually decent, though super tiny; the tub is newer than I expected. It’s tight but totally doable. The problem was the water pressure. When we turned on the shower in the morning…the water pressure would drop to nearly a dribble after a minute or so…I took my showers in the evening with no issue. The biggest issue is the total lack of air circulation. That room was DANK all the time. Even when we opened the windows, it just maintained this swampy funk that would get all over you and your clothes, which persisted for days after. We hardly stayed in the room…still, when we’d return in the evening and open the door, it would slap us in the face. Of course, when you open the windows, because you’re down in the basement, expect insects to get in… it was a bit of a hassle. The radiator would come on randomly in the middle of the night and the heat would wake us up. Eventually, we started propping the front door open with the trash can anytime we were there to encourage airflow. Try to grab an upstairs room if you can. Overall: Lovely hotel, kind and thoughtful staff, yummy food. We had a nice stay at The Eagle House. We had dinner a couple of times there and really enjoyed the food and service. Their Sunday roast was especially enjoyable, as well as the complimentary hot breakfast options. The location is super convenient; it’s right at the base of Launceston Castle and a short walk from the town square. There’s also a decent amount of parking available.

We booked a table for 8pm for 13 people. I mentioned that 'maybe' only 5/6 of us would have main meals and the others would maybe order some chips, onion rings etc. When we sat at our table, no one bought over menus and we weren't made aware of any specials or deals on. When I asked about specials we were told that as it was so late in to the evening the chef may not be doing the specials.. we weren't aware the kitchen closed at 8.30 and that that would affect the menu choices. Luckily we were able to choose off the specials as the lemon sole was really good. Although the main menu is basic everyone said how good the food was. My partner has a burger in most places we eat and he said it was one of the best he has ever had. A couple of observations though, my step sister didn't realise the steak didn't come with sauce (no up selling when she ordered) and when she asked for some peppercorn when the food came out it was then too late. The restaurant had also run out of ketchup 😅 which I've never known to happen before and I work in hospitality! The hotel itself is quite mismatched in decor. The restaurant area is very dated and doesn't have much atmosphere (maybe that was because it was very quiet when we went), some background music would liven it up a little but. The bar area is nice and quite modern, the terrace has stunning views and the ladies toilets are lovely. Our main waitress (not sure of her name, she had blonde hair and wore glasses) was very friendly and attentive, so thank you for that.

Staying locally midweek, we were advised that this venue was pretty-much the only choice in town apart from takeaways. The decor is nicely done, and we had the option of a table on the terrace (with stunning views) but it was a bit chilly! The menu was very short (perhaps a reflection on the lack of trade) and whilst our meals were OK, and the staff were doing their best, our choices weren't the best. I'd suggest checking the menu before you commit!

The staff here are amazing, very friendly and helpful. The room we had was nice, although it was summer and the small portable AC Air/con unit was insufficient to keep the room cool. I would not use this hotel in the summer, but would for other times of the year. Yes the rooms are old and the floors uneven and creaky, but that is the charm of an hotel built 1765 or eight years before American independence. The restaurant food was, just okay. Frozen fish and frozen chips, it was okay, but nothing special, think of pub grub and that's what you get. Breakfast was great, they also offer a great Vegetarian English breakfast.

Thoroughly enjoyed our one night stay at Eagle House. It is a beautiful historic building situated at the foot of Launceston Castle. Views of the castle on one side and rolling valleys on the other, sitting on the terrace in the evening was a real highlight. Bar and restaurant are both excellent but open for limited hours. The building and rooms are in need of some TLC but otherwise a great stay.

Stumbled upon this stunning place, very spacious restaurant and terraces. We met up with family and were looking for a Sunday meal in Launceston, with a dog. Other places either didn't do food, or were not dog friendly. Can't recommend this hotel enough, we asked at the bar if we could have dinner (they checked with the chef), all ok. Great tasty meal, between us we had roast beef, roast belly pork, nut roast and vegetarian risotto. The accompanying vegetables were tasty and ample, three large bowls with cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and carrot/swede mash. Very accommodating with our large dog, great wine and ale. Reasonable priced, and there was also a car park for patrons across the road.

Thus review is purely on one thing, it's opening times. Living in Launceston, this is a wonderful place to sit on the balcony on a lovely day, relaxing with a coffee or something a little stronger, but no. Its only open after 4.00pm even though its serving residents. Surely they can't be so busy they can't serve other customers? Also when popping in this morning to check incase they may have relented on their crazy opening ruling, we were welcomed at reception with a short rebuff, "No we're closed until 4.00". Perhaps a little more interest in our custom by elaborating on what's on offer after 4.00 would be good for customer relations? Shame.

First of all, I write this review as someone who has eaten here on a number of occasions and enjoyed drinks on the sun terrace overlooking the Kensey Valley. I haven’t stayed overnight but a friend from work has and he loved the place. He was especially pleased with the options for gluten and dairy free meals, having various intolerances. According to this friend, one used to expensive restaurants in and around London, the choices offered here are second to none. I can personally vouch for the Sunday Roasts, which are wonderful. Great food, local meats, lots of variety in terms of seasonal veg, and lots of it! Washed down with a pint or two of Cornish beer, or one of the Eagle House’s own gins, it’s a lovely way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon. On hot sunny days, the terrace comes into its own. Not only does it offer gorgeous views but the refreshing drinks can involve cocktails made from the hotel’s own gin distillery. Finally, the location helps make this place well worth visiting if coming to Cornwall. It’s right next door to the Castle ruins, which themselves are deserving of your time and attention.

Enjoyed Sunday lunch on Sunday 16th July at Eagle House. 26 members of my widows group and I had the roast meal and it was lovely. The meat, roast pork or roast beef was very tender with a great choice of veg, with roast potatoes, Yorkshire with yummy stuffing and there was plenty of everything. The staff were very efficient and helpful. It was a most enjoyable Sunday lunch experience and in lovely surroundings, with fabulous views, we will be back!!

This hotel is a delight. Architecture is stunning, the lobby and staircase is a really beautiful sight. Rooms are large and spacious with very comfortable furniture and beds. Very quiet surroundings with stunning views across the valley. The food (flat iron steak ) was prepared to perfection and very hot. Restaurant is warm, welcoming and even has its own amazing gin still installed in there. See photo. Staff are courteous, warm, welcoming and genuinely concerned you have a good stay. The bar is heavily stocked and if you like a cocktail, this is the place for you. Rooms are fairly priced with ample parking and it’s a very pleasant experience indeed. Third time for me and it’s always the same. Most importantly…., it’s warm😉. Well done *****

This ghastly place is a pretentious over priced hotel where the food is horrendous and the young inexperienced staff are an absolute joke! Who ever the so called cook is needs to go to college and learn the skill, as for the staff , they need lessons in how to converse with guests, perhaps a bit less text messaging and a bit more verbal communication they may even do a bit better , but I very much doubt it! The best thing for this ghastly place is to knock it down! Stay away potential guests!

The staff here were absolutely fabulous, very attentive even when you could see they were extremely busy and always checked on us but i was disappointed with the food. My burger was undercooked...pink most of the way through so i think it would have been better had they asked how i wanted it cooked but i understand many places do this with their burgers. Another member of my party had the mussels which came as a very small portion compared to other places she has had them before and she found several had not been properly washed and contained grit and sand in them. The building overall is abit shabby and could do with a few repairs and a lick of paint but overall, it wasnt a bad experience but am not sure i would return.

Visited early August as part of the Eat Out £10. Had booked which was lucky as they were turning people away. Bar menu only but that had something for everyone in our party of three. The in-house distilled gin was quite simply the star of the show. My steak was good quality and cooked as requested (pepper sauce was not good for additional £3.50). The mussels were medium sized, not large (good portion) but too many were closed and there was sand in some. Burger was a little pink but this is the fashion at the moment. Puds were OK, expensive and the chef didn't know that the Eton Mess with honeycomb was on the menu with honeycomb. Staff apologised for him. The staff are fabulous, always busy but finding time to check on us. There is a fantastic view from the bar terrace but the weather meant we had to sit inside. Maybe next time we will sit and take in the view.

Thank goodness restaurants are open again. Ate here last night, absolutely delicious meal, as always, had tempura battered fish and chips with a pea and dill fritter, homemade tartare sauce. Beautifully presented, decent glass of Sauvignon Blanc, what more can you ask for. At present they are only running the bar menu, hope fine dining is back soon, but must be difficult in these unknown times. Have to also add their in house made gin is so very good, bought yet another bottle! Will be back very soon.

I remembered reading great reviews on this place, so after a hard day at work, walking past the shop I decided to try it as a take away. I was so disappointed with the Katsu Veg curry. The taste was quite nice but the consistency was mush and most of it was made up of peas! Half of it in fact was peas and had the distinct reminder of school dinners.
