Weeping Willows is, without a doubt, one of the best dining experiences we’ve had in Bury St Edmunds. From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by a warm, cozy atmosphere and genuinely friendly staff who made us feel at home right away. We started with two starters—the crispy squid and the croquettes. The squid was perfectly cooked, crisp on the outside and tender inside. The croquettes were rich and creamy with a crisp golden crust—absolutely comforting and full of flavour. For mains, we had the pork chop, sirloin steak, and rump steak. All three were cooked to perfection. The pork chop was juicy and well-seasoned, and both steaks were tender, full of flavour, and served with generous portions and great sides. You can really tell the ingredients are fresh and of high quality. We couldn’t resist trying both desserts— sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream, and the affogato. The sticky toffee pudding was warm, gooey, and indulgent, perfectly balanced by the cool vanilla ice cream. The affogato was a lovely mix of bold and rich taste —simple, elegant, and satisfying. Overall, Weeping Willows delivers an outstanding dining experience with great food, warm service, and a charming setting. Whether you're out for a casual dinner or celebrating a special occasion, this place is well worth a visit. Highly recommended. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Lovely private pods, which were very peaceful, clean and tidy, and even had a little 'garden' to enjoy. Very spacious inside, lovely comfy bed, clean and fresh bedding and towels. Gorgeous complimentary toiletries, and very quiet pods. The breakfasts, both cooked and continental where the best ever (and we've stayed in hotels all over the country!!). Overall a very hard to beat experience and a highly recommended place to stay - thank you!

We can always rely on the Weeping Willow for a relaxed meal, quality food and some good wine. We’ve been for both special occasions with friends and impulsive last minute burger in the bar with our dogs when we don’t feel like cooking. There’s a real log burner with sofas, a casual area in the bar with tables and a formal restaurant layout too. In the summer we’ve sat outside with the dogs as well. There’s fact it’s dog friendly makes a huge difference as we can have a beautiful meal without needing to leave them at home, but equally if we want special time together, the dogs that are already there are so well behaved you don’t notice them. Sunday lunch is a must - but do remember to book. And if you book - do remember to ring up and cancel if you can’t make it, as the rest of us want to use your table 🙂

Had a great last minute stay at The Weeping Willow. The cabins are so cosy and love the furnishing and style of the rooms. The view was stunning and we really enjoyed watching the sunrise in the morning. All the amenities were great, good coffee and lots of choice for tea in the morning. The bed was really comfy. We opted to have bar food which was great. There were plenty of vegan, vegetarian and dairy free options. We both loved the Padron Peppers and the triple cooked chips. The pub has a lovely cosy vibe and the smell of the wood burning in the fire was lovely. Would really recommend. We booked a stay including breakfast which was a classic fry up. Beautifully cooked with quality ingredients. It was a brilliant stay.

My family visited The Weeping Willow in Barrow last week for a lunch time meal. We found the service to be very slow, although the restaurant was not busy. I ordered the pork belly & the portion was very small for £22. I had trouble finding the mash hiding under the meat. The vegetables were almost non existent. We ordered sticky toffee pudding, £9 each with a dollop of icecream the size of a large teaspoon. When we came to pay the bill we realised they had added on a service charge of over £17 which I think was excessive. We won't be returning unfortunately but the area is very nice.

Having visited twice in summer 2024 & thoroughly enjoyed the lunch menu, we decided the Weeping Willow would be a good place for a spot of lunch to celebrate a family birthday - what a mistake! The menu choice was poor, either main meals or very small bar snacks - no sandwiches or baguettes or similar. The burger was quite frankly a rip-off - tasteless, with a large slice of very cold tomato served straight from the fridge. The batter on the fish was quite oily. The first pint served had to be returned as it was vinegary. The service also was sadly lacking in attention. Will not be going back in a hurry!

Great food. Kitchen staff let down by front of house. As a frequent user of the WW I can tell you this is now the standard and not a one off. More worrying for the CG is that money is haemorrhaging out of the bar as people leave or don’t get served. Great name for your app though “ about time” as that’s what we say when we get served. 🙄

Sadly a disappointing experience. Firstly the music was initially too loud so people needed to shout to be heard - not great for a sit down meal, and secondly the food wasn't up to scratch. Mainly this was due to the very poor chips, which were anaemic, undercooked and very stodgy - not at all crisp. This was reported to the waitor, but no further action was forthcoming. For a £200 meal for four, this also was most disappointing.

Went for Sunday roast today after having previously been for an evening meal. The restaurant is beautiful with an open view kitchen and dining seating is in a large glass conservatory style room looking out to a beautiful garden area. Staff were very lovely, it was very busy and they were attentive and very friendly. Unfortunately our drinks order was miscommunicated to the bar so we had no drink til after our starters however I must say they were very apologetic and removed the drinks from our bill. These things happen and we were pleased with how the mistake was rectified. The food was gorgeous, we had the full 3 courses as we just couldn’t turn down trying a pudding when the first 2 courses had been delicious. Very fairly priced and a great spot! Service was extremely slow, which was a bit of a cheek giving gratuity was built in to our bill. From the time we sat down (which was after our reservation time) it was almost 1.5 hours before we got our main dinner. Then it was lukewarm. While we’re waiting, there was a family with two screaming toddlers throwing their toy cars, in fact a car was thrown at a table and almost hit the older gentleman at that table. I even witnessed the restaurant staff looking over at that table and they didn’t do anything about it. It made everyone’s meal and experience very unpleasant. So overall not a good experience at this restaurant!

We went for a family lunch with a 2 year old and a baby. Predictably the toddler wasn’t that keen on sitting waiting patiently, so we perched on the kitchen bar to watch the goings on. The kitchen staff could not have been more welcoming and kind. Without stopping the remarkable ballet round the kitchen preparing and presenting a plethora of wonderful looking dishes, they were kind and entertaining to us both. They went on to prepare a bespoke lunch made of elements requested by my granddaughter, she ate almost every morcel. No chicken nuggets for us!! The chef asked her what her favourite icecream flavour was - then made it!! What stupendous service! All of this was not at the expense of experience of the adults. We all hugely enjoyed our meals, and will certainly be back soon. Thank you and well done to everyone at the Willow Tree!

We have been pub and all the others in the chesnut group a few times and they’re generally a reliable booking. I think this is our third stay in The Weeping Willow. Generally they are great but on this occasion it was quite average. I don’t think it would prevent us coming back because it was probably due to the time of stay (tail end of the Xmas break) so they were probably struggling with staff or manager holidays. The breakfast we got really wasn’t good. The muffins were so hard our kids couldn’t eat them and the toast was like a biscuit. We were the first in the restaurant for breakfast but mysteriously they ran out of orange juice after the first order. Our room was lovely as always and the bedding was all beautifully soft and the room was clean. Unfortunately no one came to clean it after night one, which meant one of the bar staff had to come down and restock the cups and do a quick flash clean of the toilet. Dinner in the bar at night was great and the staff very accommodating as always. Friendly and great service. We would still come back because the lodges out back are perfect for families with small children, but on this occasion I think neither the cleaner or chef wanted to be there (certainly for the breakfast shift) and as a result the service was sub par. Not the usual high standards

We’ve been to The Weeping Willow many times, normally being very positive about our experience, even on this occasion deciding to stay in one of the lodges. The overall service seemed slow, firstly at the bar to collect the keys, and when returning to buy our pre-drinks. Once we were at the table, again, the service seemed slow. We ordered food, with four of us (six attended for food) going for steaks. The steaks were quite tough & the triple-cooked chips were undercooked. Again, getting extra drinks was slow, needing to actively gain the attention of the staff, instead of being asked. We stayed in Maple lodge, which on the face of it looked lovely. Overall our stay experience was okay, but things like the sink was partially blocked, not clearing when the tap was on, plus the bathroom brush was missing and rusty. In summary, it seemed a bit unloved, needing tweaks to enhance the stay. All said, we will return, but expecting things to be better, hoping this was a lower than expected 24 hours.

Overall it was Okay. Very pricey food but it was okay. The acoustics were a little unpleasant as it’s extremely noisy when you have a large group at the bar shouting at each other to be heard. The noise felt like a night club at the bar. The only observation I would make was considering the size of the bill, the staff lacked empathy and the customer service was not so good for such a nice place. I travel a lot and visit plenty of restaurants and good old fashioned customer service makes a huge difference. You cannot just rely on good food and very nice surroundings. Undoubtedly, the Weeping Willow is a very impressive place. Shame really because I can see they have invested a sizeable sum in making it look fantastic of which it does. I would recommend this place as this was only my experience. Hopefully the management can read this and make a few changes in the customer service. 😊

Also for some strange reason only one towel was left (went to reception and got another one) but in the morning we noticed we only had one cup and one glass so had to take it in turns to have morning cuppa. Also noted could not get BBC1 on TV. Why? It would also be helpful to have done ground level lights in the star from back of pub to start of lodges as nearly tripped on a grass verge in the darkness. Not the birthday dinner we expected, not a great start to the evening, turned up and the initial greeting just felt awkward, stood at the bar whilst about 5 members of staff walked by but not doing anything, eventually asked about our booking, sent to our table with no menus as they had run out, then had one menu given to us to share. We then had a long wait before anyone came along again, only to find out that they had given us an out of date menu. Starters turned up and one dish was completely wrong, back again with correct dishes but the onion bhaji was over cooked and burnt. The whole service just seemed lacking enthusiasm, to the point where it felt uncomfortable. Main dishes arrived, the ox cheek order did not come with the crispy onions like I saw on the menu and everyone else's plate. My wife's venison was very fatty and not a good cut at all, yes the food had flavour but was let down by the small details. We ordered dessert, normally my favourite part of the meal but not this time, the trio of desserts was a let down, a very untidy looking creme brulee and the blandest of chocolate torte I've ever tasted. Overall we were both very disappointed, decided not to complain on the evening as I didn't want to make a scene in front of my wife, paid the extortionate bill for a very poor dinner and left unimpressed.

Firstly, a restaurant that permits a large dog to be fed from the table with bones that it then crunched and spread over the floor, and washing its hindquarters, is not what we expect in a supposedly gourmet restaurant. Secondly, the food has declined markedly in choice and quality compared to our visits in the past. Thirdly, service was poor, requiring asking twice for several items. Fourthly, it is extremely overpriced compared to other local restaurants offering much better service and food quality. Fifthly, the background music was very poor. it was just a faint drumming noise. Lastly, even the Rose on the table was faded and drooping. All we got when it was pointed out was "Yea, we were going to replace them". Will not be visiting again.

We enjoyed our short break, everything we required was supplied , we were pleased to be in the same Lodge as we did previously, our little Dog was comfortable as well and our Breakfast was fine as before. The location suited us as my Mother and Brother live in Barrow so we could spend more time with them.

I booked for 4.30. People in front of us did not want their table as it was in entrance to restaurant. It was then offered to us, and we declined too. Sent to bar and wait 20 mins for a table. Placed order with steward, 40 mins later, I asked how much longer? To be told no order had gone in at all. We had run out of drinks and was never asked if we wanted more. This place is a total shambles. We left at 5.40 still hungry and thirsty. This is just not good enough. Really disappointed

My husband and I stayed here recently for our ninth wedding anniversary and it was just perfect in every way. The lodge we stayed in was gorgeous and the wood fired hot tub was already heated ready for our arrival. We had dinner in the restaurant and the food was incredible, one of the best steaks I’ve ever had! All staff were so friendly and accommodating, would highly recommend this place!

I recently took my two best men on a trip to the Weeping Window in Suffolk to thank them for being my best men. We stayed for two nights and were fortunate to be served by an exceptional staff member both days - Holly. Her service was outstanding, making our stay incredibly exciting, valuable, and rewarding. From the moment we arrived, she made us feel welcome and attended to our every need with a smile. Her friendly and engaging demeanor added a special touch to our trip, ensuring we had a fantastic time. She went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy, and her attention to detail did not go unnoticed. Thanks for looking after us, Dan, Jake and Coxy

The pork and beef were fatty, The potatoes were dry, Hardly any vegetables- half a carrot which had a horrible spice flavour, some cabbage and a few tender stem broccoli. Nothing was particularly hot except the extra gravy we asked for!

We had an exceptional night away at this place. The cabins adjoining the pub were ideal for a getaway, especially with the added luxury of a hot tub. The food was outstanding, and the service, particularly from the manager, was top-notch. Highly recommended.

Fantastic stay in the Holly lodge. Really friendly and helpful staff, especially the breakfast chef who made scrambled egg for our dog. The food was excellent, good ingredients and very well prepared and presented. We will definitely recommend to family and friends and we’re already looking forward to our next visit.

We are regular visitors of Chestnut Group pubs and have visited the WW on a few occasions for drinks and the BBQ they held on the beer & cider festival. Sadly this place is massively let down by the service and quality in the restaurant. Sat at our table and spent 20 minutes waiting to just order a drink. 10 minutes later no drinks, but same waitress came to take food order. We ordered and she said she would sort the drinks, another 10 minutes and these appeared. (My pint of larger looking like an ice cream with the amount of head on it) We ordered some Focaccia for whilst waiting for the food to arrive - after another long wait, 2 slices of cold, stale, sourdough appeared. This was sent back and I explained that we ordered Focaccia, all that was said was “I’m really sorry” and took it away. Kept things simple and had the burger - average at best. Make better at home sadly, so was a wasted trip. Going by the reactions and complaints from the surrounding tables, we are very glad we didn’t order any of the other dishes, especially the steak, which the table next to us had and looked like a rubber pork chop than a actual piece of beef. (I hope the ladies jaw is ok) Bill time came - and the Focaccia was on there still despite sending it back and was itemised as sourdough, despite them not having sourdough on the menu. Perhaps needs updating? I raised this and it was removed. (Another long wait, yay) Such a shame as a beautiful setting and good drinks, let down by average cooking and poor service. Only silver lining was our voucher from the Loyalty scheme softening the blow somewhat. However, gutted at the same time it couldn’t have gone towards something special. Will stick to the other restaurants from the group who consistently deliver.

We stayed in a pod with a hot tub. Lovely clean room and the hot tub was amazing. One thing i would say is that keeping the firelighters in a wicker box in the room makes the whole room smell of petrol which was awful maybe a metal sealed box outside would be better. Food in the restaurant was ok, breakfast ok but to be told they didnt have any beans was a bit bad surely a quick trip to the shop to get some would not have been too much trouble ?

Id heard so much and so wanted to go here so perhaps my expectations were very very high. Our meal was good but some of it had an extra touch that was a step too far, and then just pushed it over the edge into too fussy. Portions were really good and not like some gastro pubs, but we really didnt need sides and when we asked it was well yes you can ...... But, main problems the service was beyond slow apart from the gap between starter and main which was too quick!! so having had to ask 3 time for drinks and sat for ages with empty glasses, you then felt your food was rushed out ..... PLUS, dont they make their money on drinks ..... so it makes sense for them to be on top of that, as it pleases the customers and you make more money. And my dessert, had the chocolate delice, took one bite and literally it was like a sale mouth wash .... told them and they took it off the bill and, 5 mins later, the manager came and said thank you and how they had tried some in the kitchen and just thrown 2 trays of it away!!! so im guessing someone picked up sugar not salt.... Hats off to them for coming and telling us BUT, in a party of 6 , 2 of us had just ordered Espresso martinis (needed mine to take away the taste of salt) and i would have expected those to be comped.... so well done on telling us what had happened but there should have been more of an apology than just ' we wont charge you' as that to me was a given. Afraid i wont get hubby back there again; no point paying £60 round trip for a cab so we can both have a few drinks and enjoy the evening and then him struggling to get a pint served during his meal......

Stayed here for one night. The room and meal came to £530 which is a considerable amount of money. That did include a bottle of prosecco. Room - Overall was nice carpet was dirty/ruined and sofa was a bit but they allow dogs so guess it's expected. Hot tub the jets and lights did not work and was impossible to keep the water warm they didn't supply any logs either. The air con was noisy as well was quite difficult to sleep. Bar - Staff are friendly and good selection of drinks. Food - This is where the disappointment begins. The "charcuterie board" which was some meat slapped out of a packet and some stale bread was £20 + 10% service charge. Mind blown - see pictures. Then we ordered steaks rare and they both came medium-well and not given a steak knife. It was average food not worth the price tag. Breakfast was even worse. Coffee was good but I ordered the avo toast and it was one piece of toast smaller than the palm of my hand like a kids portion again not cheap. See picture also served on a small side plate. It's a lovely location but I wouldn't visit again. Oaksmere and The Pigs is far more worth the money if you're looking for somewhere similar.

Been to WW many times and travel a long way to meet family The changed limited menu very disappointing. What used to be a starter now a main & you have to pay for chips & a pathetic salad ( few green leaves and getkins!) When we arrived wondered why so quiet, now we know! This used to be our meeting place not anymore

Rip off !!! Popped in for a quick drink and a snack lunchtime today. Can of Guinness 0.0% = £5.70 😳 Pint of Abbot Ale = £5.40 😳 4 heated up frozen prawns = £7.25 😳 Basket of chips = £4.45 (menu said £3.95 but gone up 10% since printing, is this against the trades description act?) Shocking!!!!! How can you charge £5.70 for a can of zero that does not have the tax/excise costs and that they probably bought from Sainsbury’s for £1.22 (£12.25 for 10 cans)? Guess your paying £4.48 for the privilege of the barman opening the can a washing the glass after. And how can Abbot be £5:40 a pint when it’s sold from a tied house that’s a stones throw from the brewery? Do yourself a favour and eat at the Wetherspoons and have a pint after in The Nutshell. Food will be of the same quality (but way cheaper) and the beer will be served better and 40p cheaper (even though it’s NOT a tied house and further away from the brewery). Shame; used to be a nice pub 😢.

I've been in this restaurant for dinner during a business trip. We had our food pre ordered during the day so once we got there we didn't have to wait much. I had the whipped goats cheese, pickled beetroot, candied almonds as starter and the smoked haddock & pea risotto, bacon crumb, crispy poached egg as main, they were both very good. The interiors are very elegant, overall a really nice place.
