What an amazing restaurant. Greeted with politeness, and wine recommendations - beautiful setting, fabulous food, and great ambiance. Even when the waitress comes round to ask "is everything OK for you" it was done so subtly, that we didnt feel forced to stop eating to respond. Highly recommend. My only downside was that the room temperature was a little on the cold side, but it was a chilly evening.

We stopped in one of the lodges which was immaculately clean, well laid out and the bed was very comfortable. The breakfast the next day, which we had included in our package was very fresh and good quality ingredients. The evening meal we had was good but a little overpriced we thought for the quality we thought. We would definitely recommend would have no hesitation stopping there again.

We stayed in the gorgeous new cottages just for a night and cannot rate this place highly enough, but particularly the staff. So absolutely gorgeous and helpful. Our car had broken down, down the road and with a very energetic 18 month old, corgi and husband in tow we had a delicious lunch then realised we were not going to be able to make it back to london that day. Laura and her team were absolutely incredible in helping us out. They offered us a room just to hang out in until the AA arrived. We decided to book that room for the night but in the meantime they did absolutely everything to make a difficult situation so much easier. The kindness we experienced was next level and we want to thank everyone involved. But also the breakfast included with our accommodation was so generous and delicious as was our lunch the day before. What an amazing place to base yourself to explore the surrounding area.

Nice location, quiet however the grass was so long where you stay and the fire escape lights are permanently on so there is a massive green glo in the room. The food and service is very good but the breakfast starts at 8:30am so if you are an early riser or have a long journey and need to start early then don't pay for the breakfast. All in all is it worth the cost, not really and there are more negatives than positives unfortunately, just a shame and will give this place a miss in the future.

What a treasure the Weeping Willow in Barrow is. Such a pretty village. My husband and I stayed in the Oak Lodge set in a meadow with other lodges behind the pub. Very quiet setting. Very comfortable, clean lodge with king bed, large shower and a bath with toiletries. Tea and coffee station. Clean towels and top up of tea etc every day. Breakfast was delicious with various choices to suit all. We did eat in the pub the first night and was pleased to see the place was very busy even for a Monday. My husband had a burger and I had chicken supreme with mushroom and butterbean fricassee. Absolutely delicious, first class. The whole stay of 3 nights was top notch. The surrounding countryside is glorious, gently rolling and although not far from Bury St Edmunds, it was a perfect countryside spot. Thoroughly recommend the pub for food and exceptional service and the lodges for comfort. Thank you to the whole team. Would definitely return.

Although arriving early the pub was buzzing. The atmosphere felt friendly and welcoming. Service was quick and food quality good. Our only issue was the very limited veggie/vegan choice on offer. One starter and one main. The one main on offer, was small (not much bigger than a starter), however it was delicious and attractively presented (tbh pitched against other mains delivered to the table, it represented poor value for money) it would have been nice to have been offered maybe garlic bread or another side to accompany. We will definitely return, just hope there will be more choice available!

One of my favourite places to eat at near Bury, especially with my elderly relative who lives nearby. The food is delicious and service normally good. With the large windows and also direct view into the kitchen it's an attractive and welcoming space. Strange that I can only leave a review for the hotel that I've never stayed at, but I can definitely vouch for the restaurant.

I stayed here with my Husband because the chalet had hot tub however this was not useable. This was the worst overnight stay I have had away in the last 10 years and the Manager has not had the decency to call me back even though I have left 3 messages. Entered the chalet it was freezing cold. Took all night to warm up and even then was not to a cosy standard. Hot tub never warmed up so could not use it albeit asking for assistance. Apparantly this is a known issue so why they advertise hot tubs is madness. They forgot to put pillow cases on the bed. My duck dinner £28 was not warm with no compensation for it even though I told the waitress at the time. For breakfast there was no cereal apart from coco pops, no decaf as they had “run out” on a Saturday. This stay was not cheap hence would not expect such situations and the fact that no one has even bothered to answer my email or call me back is bad customer service.

Not the best start as due to last minute change of plans we wanted to change our table from 7 to 8 people, but when we rang we were told that it wasn't possible to squeeze another chair in as the place was fully booked. Fair enough, it was a last minute request from us, however, once we arrived and checked again, the staff were really helpful and said that they could fit another guest in, so a bit of a disaster for us was happily averted, so thank you to the Willow for that. After that initial wobble the whole experience was wonderful, really lovely and welcoming waiting staff, and great food, either a traditional Sunday lunch or other pub classics were also available - I had a huge, beautifully cooked haddock and chips. We were made to feel very welcome and the meal was unhurried. The dining area is lovely and light and nicely decorated, and great to see an open kitchen and a perfect 5 food hygiene rating.

Having visited many times before we were looking forward to our Sunday Lunch, sadly won’t be returning again! First off a very long wait for food about 45 minutes with only a couple of other tables - 4 roasts. The roast arrived which looked nice but one measly bit of beef for £23 is a bit steep but anyway. We tucked in and the meat was totally inedible - tough & undercooked. We complained & were offered 3 ‘steak knives’ to cut through it! The irony. Two of us left both slices of £23 beef & explained to another waitress that it was inedible, who offered no apologies. We ordered desserts which were nice. When we received the bill we were shocked to see we were charged in full despite the meal being inedible. The waitress proceeded to check with the manager who begrudgingly removed the 3 desserts to compensate. The manager then stormed over and said she needed the table back urgently for the next guests, which was rather a surprise considering there was only two other tables in the restaurant & the bill was over £150 including service. We’re regular customers of all chestnut group properties but shall not be returning nor recommending this one!!!

We had booked a dinner, bed and breakfast package in one of the best lodges with hot tub. On arrival we went to the bar to check in and were showed to our lodge by a young team member, he spoke only to give a couple of bits of information on the heating/hot tub/breakfast timings but was not very welcoming - I would expect a bit of polite chat on the walk over to the lodge for instance ask where we had come from, how was the journey etc. He checked the hot tub which was cold as the fire had gone out but he said it would heat up in 20 minutes or so, this was not the case and actually took a couple of hours which was disappointing. The room itself was lovely, comfortable and spacious but a little more attention to the detail of cleaning would be beneficial. The heating came via an air con unit which was incredibly noisy during the night keeping us awake and didn’t go off even when off on the remote - we had to remove the card from the power slot to disconnect it! We had drinks in the bar whilst waiting for the hot tub to heat up and then back for dinner at 8.30pm when we were told there was no steak left which was a big disappointment. We asked if there was a set menu for the package but were told it was the same menu, we were not told that there was a £60 per head limit for food for dinner and breakfast - perhaps it was in the booking notes but I didn’t remember seeing it. The staff member forgot to bring our side order so we were half way through the meal before we received it. The food was good but portions small for the price. We had drinks at the bar, one excellent staff knowledgeable member serving, but the another who did not know the standard measure for a baileys and who made an espresso martini which although tasted good only half filled the glass which we had never experienced before - it wasn’t a big glass! Breakfast was good except non runny poached egg! Would have preferred a pot of tea but was nice. Overall a lovely setting, more care needed with cleaning - look at the lampshades above the bar! Some great staff members but some who seemed to lack training and confidence - get that right and the whole experience would be much improved.

This was a poor experience. We travelled almost a 100 miles to eat here and was very disappointed. We ordered two sides with our meal which were forgotten. When we asked about them we were told that the waitress would check. We weren't given any reason for the delay or how long it might be. The sides eventually arrived just as we were finishing our main. No reason was given or apology or even any acknowledgment there was a problem. In fact when the waitress brought the sides over she avoided eye contact and turned her back on us when she put them in the corner of the table. The potatoes were also forgotten from out meals. Although these came quite quickly there was no acknowledgment of apology. I expect much better service given how much we had to pay for this meal. We won't be coming again and would advice anyone to think twice before coming here.

Just home from a fabulous weekend away in the Hazel lodge. We left the kids at home but took the dog and we weren’t disappointed. The muddy paws package was perfect and very well received. As lodge guests we took advantage of the food vouchers and ate in the restaurant both nights. Food is really good, cocktails well made and breakfast was brilliant too. Our lodge was spotless and cosy. We took the advice of one of the friendly front of house team and went on the circular walk which was stunning on the first sunny day we’ve had since winter. Venture into Bury St Ed’s if you get chance. The abbey is something to behold…so much history and lots to learn despite it being ruins. The town centre is quaint with lots of lovely independent shops. The team at the willow are absolutely lovely, professional and eager to assist. There were only 2 things that stop this being a 5 star review… 1 the restaurant is so popular and always full that there can be a small wait. 2 on checking out we couldn’t get a breakdown of the additional costs we incurred but they weren’t significant. Overall this little gem is a must try - you won’t be disappointed

This pub is more like a contemporary restaurant overlooking the village green. It is divided into three areas; the main restaurant surrounded by an open kitchen with wall to wall glass windows; another area around the bar which has the feel of a traditional pub and a large room off to the side with a table that could seat a very large group. Lack of dry wood and firelighters... until the last day when we left. There was rubish outside and in the tree... not nice to look at and simple to move. Also there is no windows to open for air! This is a bad design fault. The toilet roll holder needs repairing too. Overall we loved our stay but the lodge is not worth 350 currently, due to lack of detail and thought! Gorgeous pub. Ample parking. Lovely staff - pleasant and attentive without being intrusive. The food. Overall, it’s 7.5/10 for me. There were some dishes that weren’t for me. Mac and cheese was too salty. And the tiramisu was a bit disappointing because the ladyfingers were substituted with what tastes and looks like undercooked cake dough. So the texture was a bit strange. Like other customers, I thought we had been served a plate of radicchio - but there were four small thin slices of duck breast underneath. It was cooked perfectly, but underwhelming in flavour. Chips were good. Short rib was very tender - the meat fell apart. Onion ring batter was ever so light. The soup was very refreshing. I had to add a bit of pepper and salt - but that’s more my personal taste. Sourdough bread, fresh and delicious. Sticky toffee pudding was great. We had a lovely time. It’s very popular as tables filled up quickly. We would visit again as there are other items on the menu I’d love to try.

We found the staff exceptionally friendly and engaging, we had an evening meal the food was very good, disappointed with the garden pea portion but this was rectified to our satisfaction, our breakfast experience was very good on all levels. We enjoyed the lodge and the hot tub. We had an issue with the cleanliness of our bathroom on arrival, it was reported to a staff member who told us a manager would come and see us, that didn’t happen! We passed on a message to our breakfast server on departure that we would like a manager to call us. We did receive a call later that day and the matter was dealt with satisfactorily, we also passed on comments regarding another housekeeping issue we were not entirely happy with, this was the house keeper servicing our room whilst we were having breakfast, we returned to find them in our lodge, this felt very invasive to us. We both agreed that overall our experience was such that we would return and we would recommend the weeping willow to friends and family. Taken by my lovely husband for a special dinner, as he knows I appreciate good food. Disappointed there were no salads as sides or starters (but it was 30 December) so ordered the only vegetable side, winter greens, with my starter. Husband's Scotch Egg he said was excellent, certainly looked good with nice slightly liquid yolk. My cured trout was delicious, served with fat white raisins (interesting combination that really worked) and pea shoots. The winter greens would have been enough for two, perfectly cooked kale and chard, nice and hot. Husband said his steak was excellent, the bit I tried certainly was tender; accompanying French fries tasty and crispy, although he'd have preferred chunkier chips. The Mac 'n cheese side was also tasty if a little salty. My pork belly was also excellent, tender, served with mash, although again I found the sauce a bit salty. Husband's tiramisu had more cream than cake, pronounced it very good. The lemon posset was off the menu, replaced by crème brulee, nice creamy custard but sugar topping burned rather than caramelised. Very good service, well timed. Ladies loo totally out of paper but mentioned to staff and next visit restocked.

A very disappointing meal at the Weeping Willow. Taste, texture, presentation. Nearly everything was awry. I had a lump of something unidentifiable in my celeriac soup starter (which was generally bitter and drowning in dill oil). I had to spit out several clumps of chewy gristly meat from my flat iron steak and the lettuce served with it was burnt rather than charred. I ended up leaving about 40% of my steak as it was scarcely edible. The bread and butter pudding for dessert was equally disappointing. The crème anglaise was a dishwater soup, there were heavily burned section *inside* the pudding leading to a heavy acrid taste which simply was not pleasant. Not only was my meal not worth the money, it was simply poor. I doubt I would choose to go back. Even the way to the toilet is an obstacle course between chairs.

My first experience of eating high end food and I have to say the Xmas day lunch was out of this world, my compliments to the chef and his team for cooking the most amazing food I have ever tasted, my main course short rib of beef with mash potatoe and kale I could not believe how soft the beef was, it just melted in my mouth and the kale was mouth watering, Ty for the perfect meal I will definately be coming again. We asked for another bowl of veg as there were 10 of us and it was no problem at all, very attentive and friendly staff. Fine dining at its very best, puts my cooking to shame lol .

Really poor and very disappointing. For a restaurant which tries to emulate a pretentious, upmarket feel it falls woefully short. Teeny tiny portions, crazy London prices and tasteless offerings. Battered haddock was more like Aunt Bessie’s frozen fish, the “no waste tiramisu” was not a...

Great stay at the eco lodge. Loverly room, comfy bed, amazing bath and shower. Everything was amazingly clean. A few suggestions though, Contactless check in would have been much easier, No plug sockets by the beds, no fridge (which was a must have on the hot sunny weekend we went on). Garden needed the lawn mowing desperately, was extremely overgrown. Also if taking your dog, be cautious that the gardens are not enclosed. lastly, toiletries were drilled in a metal frame to the shower wall, which meant when having a bath if you are wanting to wash your hair ect, you were unable to use the toiletries, which was a bit of a nuisance. We booked for dinner that night, and were quite disappointed by the quality. We waited 50 minutes for our dinner to arrive, none were seasoned at all, and were extremely bland. My fish and chips were extremely underdone and chewy, not what you’d expect for the price. Breakfast in the morning was very bland, and pretty basic. Overall the eco lodge was a great and comfortable stay, but would not eat at the weeping willow again.

Stayed in one of the lodges with a wood fired hot tub. Lodge was clean and comfortable bed, the hot tub was lush, we were able to stoke it up and enjoy the bubbles. Dinner was lovely, we both had chicken schnitzel but were too full for dessert. Hospitality was good and lodges will get better as the grass around the hot tub grows and foliage thickens.

We have just stayed in one of the lodges for 2 nights and didn't want to leave. We were so impressed and can't wait to come back. The room was light and airy, very clean, lots of room to put your bags etc, lovely big bathroom and an exceptionally comfy bed. (Being a new lodge it would have been nice to have some plug sockets either side of the bed. We plug our phones in at night and used other sockets in the room so it wasn't really a problem but more of a convenience thing). We took our dog too and he even had his own bed, bowls and a ball left in the room for him which was a lovely touch. The whole pub is dog friendly which is why we decided to stay here in the first place. The breakfast was absolutely spot on and the waitress was very friendly and made us feel most welcome. We had an evening meal in the pub which was a little pricey but as a special treat we couldn't resist. All the staff we came across during our stay were very welcoming and friendly and we really did feel looked after. We will definitely be returning to The Weeping Willow.

My partner and I spent the night here last night and absolutely loved our stay. We stayed in one of the new lodges and did the ‘dinner, bed and breakfast’ deal. The lodge was so lovely, it was clean, cozy, comfortable and we loved how it has been decorated and fitted out to a really high standard. We both had a great nights sleep and felt relaxed the whole time we were there. The bar and restaurant area had a good atmosphere and a great view of the garden on not such a sunny day! The food was absolutely delicious, I had the chicken Caesar croquette and the gnocchi and my partner had the scotch egg and lamb rump. We also had a cooked breakfast this morning which was really good. The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We didn’t bring our dog, but I wish we had! Both the restaurant/bar and the lodges are dog friendly. The only thing with the dogs is that the areas at the back of the lodges aren’t enclosed, so dogs would probably need to stay on a lead if you needed to let them out. I would thoroughly recommend The Weeping Willow as both a place to stay and to eat, we hope to visit again in the future.
