We went to One The Bull in Bury St Edmunds on Friday 4th April. The pub /restaurant was packed and we all agreed we had the best waiter any of us had had before. He gave us time, we were not sure about the beer and he suggested a sample, similar for the wine, and he took our procrastination in good heart even though the place was busy. We then moved onto the menu and had a lot of questions again about what the terms meant etc Nothing was too much trouble for him. The waiters name was Ethan and we all agreed Ethan was a star and such good service should be acknowledged, in this day and age where it is all so easy to criticise. Take a bow Ethan, take a bow .....

This pub has exceptional staff who are so kind and friendly. We had a lovely family meal on Mothering Sunday. Food was delicious but but what really made the occasion was how the staff looked after my elderly Dad. Couldn't have asked for more. Thank you

I've been in this restaurant for dinner during a business trip. We had our food pre ordered during the day so once we got there we didn't have to wait much. I had the whipped goats cheese, pickled beetroot, candied almonds as starter and the smoked haddock & pea risotto, bacon crumb, crispy poached egg as main, they were both very good. The interiors are very elegant, overall a really nice place.

Fantastic spot in Bury. I've been here a few times, always delivered great food and drinks. We were visiting for Sunday lunch, and all were stuffed. I had the roast beef. Plenty of it, no golding back. Great roasties, Yorkshire pud, and sides. Cauliflower cheese as standard is great! The puds were awesome, too. I had a brownie, which was everything you'd expect from a brownie, delicious.

Called in for an early dinner mid week. Good selection of food, freshly prepared. Service was efficient and we were informed meals were prepared to order so there would be a 20 minute wait for mains. We had chicken and ham pie and calves liver. Both meals were nicely presented on hot plates and were very tasty.

Food was a little bland. Every small dish came with a salad and bread. Better if the bread and salad came separately. White bait appeared to come from a packet and was disappointing. Whole Sea bass was nice but would have preferred fillets. Wine was really good as was the staff.

Was in the area for the weekend. Popped in for a drink and the interior is beautiful much better than previous pictures. Staff were very smiley, happy and friendly. I was unsure on what wine to go for and the lovely lady serving behind the bar wasted no time asking me if I would like to try a little bit of each. A lovely relaxing spot to enjoy a lovely glass of wine. My husband had a pint of Guinness which he said was good. We went back the next day for some bar snacks and we had the focaccia, fries and breaded Camembert all were excellent and good value for the portion size. This time there was a young man behind the bar who was just as helpful happy and friendly. Really impressed as the pub was busy but all staff went about there tasks efficiently and with a smile on their faces.

We are visiting Bury St Edmund's for just a night and booked a table here in advance. The first thing to say is that the interior is a lot busier and more welcoming than it looks on the photos. We were warmly welcomed and served promptly and efficiently. The food was delicious, all of it, with a special mention for the fabulous mussels - plump and moist, and coated in a great cream sauce. Three courses for one of us and two for the other, sparkling water, a carafe if Chianti and an espresso came to just over a hundred pounds, which I think is very good value for premium ingredients cooked with flair and imagination. A special mention to all the staff, who seemed genuinely to enjoy offering excellent service with a willing and sunny demeanor. Many thanks to all.

We were served by Sam and Seb both very capable and on the ball. Sam knew the menu inside out and backwards. His advice was spot on and enabled us to make good choices. His confidence, knowledge and assurance was clear to see and impressive in someone so young. The food was delicious, a magnificent traditional meat pie main was the star dish. A pear and cheese dish and a meat terrine with pineapple and a hint of chilli were our starters. A slice of wickedly rich treacle tart finished us off. We walked the longest way back to recover. Real ale (brewshed) complemented the meal perfectly. I followed up a couple of days later and a different team looked after me just as well. One of those lovely places where when you ask “Can I ?”…. the answer is always yes. Beats the Angel round the corner on every count.

Great service, friendly and attentive staff always over the years I've been coming and felt it time to finally leave a review. Deserts always the highlight of my meal and I'm such a fan of the frequent changes of menu. The lighting really is great too, not too bright but not too dark and the separation of bar / drinks , and dining areas, make it much calmer when enjoying meal. Staying in Bury St. Edmunds whilst on a course. Visited The One Bull 2 nights running due to it being outstanding the first night. 2 staff members on - Sam and Becky. Dining out alone as a female in a new place can sometimes be intimidating to some. Sam and Becky made me feel welcome and relaxed from walking through the door. Greeted me as soon as eye contact was made with a smile and a friendly demeanour. The first night I was thankful for them finding me a quiet spot to work from as I had some paperwork to catch up with. It was then no problem for me to move to a ‘proper’ table to eat. Being a chef myself I can be a little picky when it comes to eating out - I like and expect good standards. With a daily changing specials menu alongside a small but perfectly considered main menu I needn’t have worried. First night I had garlic butter focaccia bread, bacon chop and sticky toffee pudding from the main menu. Tonight I’ve had duck from the specials menu followed by eton mess. All delivered in generous portions, perfectly presented by very well trained and attentive staff. Compliments to the chef and kitchen team - the food is full of flavour and perfectly cooked. Good to meet Dave the owner at the bar tonight also to express my thanks and high praise for Sam and Becky. Did I mention they also brew their own beers and have an extensive but well chosen wine list? All available to buy from their shop next door! I will definitely be returning here if I need to come to Bury St.Edmunds for any other reason. If I could give you 10 stars I would! A huge well done to The One Bull team!

We had high hopes after seeing the reviews and the fantastic pre-arrival information system that we were able to utilise and we were not disappointed. We have been lucky enough to stay in some amazing hotels around the world, but for room ambience, facilities and personal service this is up there with the best we have had. The room was immaculate and nothing was too much trouble if we wanted anything changed – we stayed in the Concorde Suite which has a two-person spa bath in the room and as a relaxing experience, it is unsurpassed in any hotel I have stayed in the UK. We also ate in their restaurant in the evening and the food there was excellent and well-priced. The AA have recently rated the breakfast as 5 Star and I would concur with this – it is not often I get a Bucks Fizz or Bloody Mary included in the breakfast!! Overall we had a fantastic time and I am sure this will become a regular place we stay when we want some R&R.

Extremely disappointing lunch today. It was our anniversary and a real treat to eat outside. Very little choice for vegetarians - only one main course option which included asparagus and broad beans - both vegetables that I don’t like. I opted for the celeriac instead even though it was really a starter. When my husband went to order he was told that we had to have all three courses served at the same time because we were eating outside. We had our dog with us so indoors was not an option. When my husband pointed out that the ice cream on the pudding would melt before we could eat it, the server agreed to hold the Treacle Tart with ice cream until we’d finished our main courses. Foccacia with sundried tomato butter was dried out and tasteless. I didn’t eat it. The waiter didn’t ask if everything was OK, just “have you finished?” I told him about the bread. He just said “Oh, dry?” And walked away. When the small portion of treacle tart was served, it had been microwaved so that it was too hot to eat, burning my tongue, and the ice cream had half melted. Who wants hot treacle tart in 24 degrees. If it was treacle pudding fair enough. I’ve seen your response to the last negative review, so just to confirm that we paid when we ordered and we weren’t offered a refund on the focaccia. Although we’re local we won’t be returning, which is a shame because it’s so close and a beautiful setting.
