My girlfriend and I had our 3rd visit to the MASON ARMS for Sunday Roast ,we eat out a lot at many pubs and restaurants around East Anglia and this our favourite place for a meal on a Sunday . The staff are very friendly and so helpful ,I had the roast lamb and partner had the beef,we paid extra for cauliflower cheese and mash potato(both had a lovely flavour ),served on hot plates ,there was Yorkshire puds, greens, fine beans, carrots, roast potatoes, roast parsnips ,both our meats were tender and delicious ,rest of meal was extremely tasty and the gravy was great with a lovely flavour,it really was a super Sunday Roast and although not cheap,it's well worth it to have such a brilliant, quality meal and we recommend it very highly ,many thanks to Chef/cooks and staff ..

Rip off !!! Popped in for a quick drink and a snack lunchtime today. Can of Guinness 0.0% = £5.70 😳 Pint of Abbot Ale = £5.40 😳 4 heated up frozen prawns = £7.25 😳 Basket of chips = £4.45 (menu said £3.95 but gone up 10% since printing, is this against the trades description act?) Shocking!!!!! How can you charge £5.70 for a can of zero that does not have the tax/excise costs and that they probably bought from Sainsbury’s for £1.22 (£12.25 for 10 cans)? Guess your paying £4.48 for the privilege of the barman opening the can a washing the glass after. And how can Abbot be £5:40 a pint when it’s sold from a tied house that’s a stones throw from the brewery? Do yourself a favour and eat at the Wetherspoons and have a pint after in The Nutshell. Food will be of the same quality (but way cheaper) and the beer will be served better and 40p cheaper (even though it’s NOT a tied house and further away from the brewery). Shame; used to be a nice pub 😢.

I've been in this pub for dinner during a business trip. It's quite small but we were lucky enough to find two free tables to fit a large group of people. They offer burgers and traditional British dishes, I had the Cottage Pie and it was really good. Prices are fair and service was fast.

The food was ok, nothing special and adding chips to a sandwich was £2.95 for about 8 chips! On first glance the pub looks lovely and perfect location in town but the toilets are quite bad and in desperate need of renovation and we’re not the cleanest. The soap dispenser broken so just a bottle in there to replace it which is ok except it was watered down! Overall wasn’t the nicest sorry to say. It could be made so much nicer.

I had been in there a couple of years ago and had a good meal. I believe this place may no be part of a brewery as it looks more independent. I had a hunters chicken, the chicken was very nice. I had some chips with this which were some of the best pub chips in a while. The costs of the main courses are around £14 which is very reasonable as that is what you pay these days. The twix cheesecake I had was clearly bought in but it was enjoyable with ice cream.

Mason Arms, Bury St Edmunds: A Rustic Gem for Food and Ale Lovers Nestled in the charming market town of Bury St Edmunds, the Mason Arms is a quintessentially British pub that effortlessly combines rustic charm, outstanding food, and a welcoming atmosphere. This is not just another stop on the pub crawl; it’s a destination in its own right, perfect for anyone who appreciates quality, authenticity, and a bit of character. From the moment you step inside, the cozy, rustic decor sets the tone for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Exposed beams, warm lighting, and a lively yet intimate ambiance make the Mason Arms feel like the kind of place where locals gather, stories flow, and everyone feels at home. The menu is a standout, offering hearty, traditional British fare done exceptionally well. Their pies are nothing short of legendary—perfectly golden crusts encasing rich, flavorful fillings that feel like a warm hug on a chilly day. The scotch egg is a delightful treat: crisp on the outside, with a perfectly soft center that’s a testament to their attention to detail. Every dish is prepared with care, making it clear this pub doesn’t just rely on its drinks to keep patrons coming back. Speaking of drinks, the beer selection is excellent, featuring a wide range of ales, lagers, and ciders that cater to every palate. Whether you’re after a local craft beer or something more traditional, you’re sure to find a pint worth savoring. And the drink prices? More than reasonable, which is rare for such a high-quality experience. If you’re lucky enough to visit on a pleasant day—or even a chilly one—you’ll want to take advantage of the outdoor patio. With its heat lamps and inviting atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot to enjoy your meal or drink al fresco while soaking in the charm of Bury St Edmunds. In short, the Mason Arms is a true gem. Whether you’re a foodie, a beer enthusiast, or just someone in search of a great spot to relax, this pub delivers on all fronts. Rustic charm, unbeatable pies, and a scotch egg that deserves its own fan club—it’s everything you want in a British pub and more. Don’t miss it!

We made a late decision to visit during the Christmas lights turn-on, staff catered for us (2 plus dog) within 15mins on the only table available, despite being really busy with lots of walk-ins. Ideally located just off town centre, paid street parking available and decent sized heated outside area. We both had the chicken and bacon pie, chips and veg, gravy was supplied on request and all really good. Pie didn't look overly big but was really deceiving. It was possibly the most filled pie we've ever had, definitely worth having. Staff were friendly and chirpy, despite being clearly busy. Highly recommend and although we've been before, we would certainly visit again.

We visited here with our daughter and two year old granddaughter. The food was very good and staff were friendly my only gripe, they do not have a children's menu. So had to purchase a basket meal of which two thirds was wasted! I hate food wastage and feel options for a small child to eat could be better and less expensive. I appreciate businesses have to make money but charging a small child for an adult meal doesn't seem Especially when so much food was wasted.

This was my first time at this pub and had heard that it was good from friends. However, this ended up being my first and last time here. Upon ordering my drink at the bar, the bar tender commented to my friend that “I looked so smiley and cute” in an incredibly patronising way - as if she was my mother not a friend the same age! Even odder that he addressed it to her, not to me who was standing right next to her! He then went to high five me before pulling away and tricking me?! He then tried again to high five even after he could see I was uncomfortable! So odd and super unprofessional - made me very uncomfortable…won’t be back.

Fabulous beef and ale pies with crispy chips and veg. Excellent value for money. The fish and chips with minted peas was a equally delicious with a thin and crispy batter. The service was quick and food was piping hot. Would highly recommend.

Extremely disappointing lunch today. It was our anniversary and a real treat to eat outside. Very little choice for vegetarians - only one main course option which included asparagus and broad beans - both vegetables that I don’t like. I opted for the celeriac instead even though it was really a starter. When my husband went to order he was told that we had to have all three courses served at the same time because we were eating outside. We had our dog with us so indoors was not an option. When my husband pointed out that the ice cream on the pudding would melt before we could eat it, the server agreed to hold the Treacle Tart with ice cream until we’d finished our main courses. Foccacia with sundried tomato butter was dried out and tasteless. I didn’t eat it. The waiter didn’t ask if everything was OK, just “have you finished?” I told him about the bread. He just said “Oh, dry?” And walked away. When the small portion of treacle tart was served, it had been microwaved so that it was too hot to eat, burning my tongue, and the ice cream had half melted. Who wants hot treacle tart in 24 degrees. If it was treacle pudding fair enough. I’ve seen your response to the last negative review, so just to confirm that we paid when we ordered and we weren’t offered a refund on the focaccia. Although we’re local we won’t be returning, which is a shame because it’s so close and a beautiful setting.

Whitebait. Rump steak cooked exactly the way I wanted it. Brownie and cream. Good value No messing, great service, bottle of shiraz and a superb pint of stout. What's not to like?

Staff are nice. I would say the room hadn’t been hoovered. Laying in bed on the Friday we could hear the bass from the speakers downstairs which was annoying and disappointing.

Went yesterday for something to eat, was great to find somewhere that food was available all day. I had open fish pie and Parma Violet pudding and my brother had the liver and bacon dish of which I tried😃 x. All excellent taste and service. I would highly recommend.
