We've been visiting the Waveney River Centre Inn for 20 years, and it just gets better. This summer, we've been many times and the new specials menu is a welcome addition. Yesterday we had the salmon & prawn linguine, sitting on the sunny terrace overlooking the beautiful marshes. Heaven. Great value food and wine, fabulous setting, lovely friendly welcoming staff. See you again later this week!

Lovely spot, water and field views, tucked out of the way so maybe a little hard to find, but a pleasant journey along the single track country lanes to get here. Hotel staff were amazingly helpful, nothing too much trouble, and so nice to see such good customer service. Rooms were updated, very clean, good facilities and generous amounts of tea coffee etc provided. Breakfast and dinner, simple and good value, decent and generous meals. Will stay here again. 10 year old loved the swimming pool onside.

We have been coming to the Waveney River Centre in all its forms for nearly fifty years so have seen a lot of changes. We dropped our son and grandson off at Oulton Broad for them to paddle board and meet us for lunch. Everything went as planned, my wife and I drove there and had a drink at the bar until they arrived. Upon arrival they were told that the cost of getting their paddle boards onto dry land would be £30! Another family were told the same. Upon complaining, the guy said he would “let you off this time”. Indicating he would make the charge next time. When asked why they were told “it’s to deter cars at busy times”! There were six cars in the car park! Easy to see why there were so few! We spent over £100 in the restaurant. The food was ok but not exceptional price was average for these days. Something we won’t be doing again with such an attitude. Well done Waveney River Centre you have lost any future custom from us and the other family who like us live locally. No doubt more of our boating friends whom we shall be sharing our experience.

Was staying onsite in one of the lodges (which was exceptional) and thought we'd skip cooking and pop here for dinner. And what a gem!!! Meals were very reasonably priced. Not a huge over complicated menu.... Just really really simple, well cooked food. We didn't have to wait very long at all. We both went for the chicken burger which I would 100% recommend. Was cooked to perfection. We then went to the back of the restaurant where there was a large room with a pool table, and loads of sofas/chairs to just be able to have a chill. Staff were super friendly. Service was exceptional and food delicious. Will definitely return again soon 👍

We were welcomed in 7pm on a Sunday and immediately seemed a very clean and inviting place, gorgeous front and views. Pool table in the back was very great for entertainment after a meal - was compensated a meal after a wait time as they were unfortunately down a chef, though food was served hot. Very very friendly and helpful staff, helped us with trying to book a taxi home, and can’t thank Sam and Becky enough! Made our meal pleasant despite the small mix up, and would definitely return for another day.

Stayed here for 3 nights for my birthday. We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. The room was amazing…beautifully clean and well equipped. The bed was enormous and extremely comfy. The breakfasts were served in the Inn itself. Good choice and served with a smile. We only ate on one evening as no food was served for 2 of our 3 nights stay. They had run out of several items on the menu which was a great shame but we were able to find something for us both. The portion sizes were extremely ample! ….and very nice. The staff in the Inn were lovely…friendly, helpful and professional. We had a really lovely stay and would most definitely return.

We had a long weekend, Friday to Monday, and it was honestly fabulous. The Waveney Inn now has a cracking new chef. He's a brilliant chef, lots of good staple favourites on the menu, reasonably priced, and the cooked breakfast was just perfect. Him indoors had the Full English and I had the Mini English. Perfect portion size for our different appetites and very well cooked. Lovely clean room with a mahoosive bed with a very comfortable mattress and a lovely shower. I've had some shocking showers in hotels but this was fabulous. We had very hot weather and needed that shower to be good! The staff are so friendly, polite and genuinely want you to have a nice stay with them. They care about their hotel and it shows. One last thing...the pool is like a warm bath! Only so many people allowed in at a time which is lovely so everyone can swim. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat! Thank you for a lovely stay. Love & best wishes Michelle & Michael xx

We visited this bar and restaurant at 2 pm on a Sunday afternoon. It was fairly empty compared to previous visits here. There were a couple of tables eating food nearby so I was surprised that when I went to place a food order I was told that the kitchen staff had gone home and I could not order food. The barman was extremely apologetic. As I told him although it was not his fault it really is not acceptable to suddenly stop serving food when there were several people who wanted to order food. We had to make do with 2 bags of crisps as did the couple at the next table who had just arrived on holiday. The owner really does need to sort the food situation out as if I had just arrived after a long journey I would not be happy. I feel sorry for the campers and people in caravans staying here as although it advertisers a restaurant on site you cannot have food.!!!!!!! It is a complete shambles and we now realise why it is so empty. We decided to cruise to the Wherry in Oulton Broad where we had a fantastic meal.

Let’s start with a positive, nice friendly staff, seem helpful enough and seem to want to help but I’m afraid they can’t do anything to counteract the food And terrible menu. So first night arrived , ordered food and booked it for 8 o’clock, turned up at the pub at 9 as food hadn’t arrived to be told the app was down and would be with us in 20mins. Another hour passed we couldn’t take any longer so went back to be told it was been bagged up and yet the pub was empty. So it’s now ten o’clock we’d been driving 4 hours and we are only just eating.Arrived back with the food , absolutely shocking. It’s clear the microwave works overtime. The lasagnes of both meat and veg dropped out there foil containers with a bang on the plates. It’s far from home cooked as the flavour and quality just isn’t there. Then onto the £9 pepperoni pizza, thought would be something special. Nope clearly wrong, it was a tasteless mess which I honestly thought was frozen or reheated. Nothing fresh, in fact I’ve had microwave pizzas that tasted better. The food was just shocking all round so on me voicing my opinions the following morning we were offered a free return meal, very nice of the lady. So thought maybe it was an off day and we’d give them another chance to find this wasn’t the case. The food is just unbelievable tasteless microwaved below par stuff. We tried many things on the second time round and all was a massive letdown. The kids food, macaroni cheese was a bland tasteless pasta. The chicken goujons actually looked quite nice but our two year old who lives on chicken wouldn’t touch them, I tried them and what I experienced was a watery tasteless piece of chicken. Sausages and mash, the sausages were dumped on a microwaved piece of mash, I can’t actually believe the mash can’t be made fresh. You could tell as the corners were chewy!! Two of our friends had the special of a vegetable curry, again just tasted like veg mixed with tomatoes. It’s actually quite worrying the amount of food we tried from the menu to literally find everything was tasteless. I think the menu and kitchen needs some serious time spent creating a dining experience as you have a lovely location but I found the food to be some of the worst we’ve experienced in a long time!!

We booked a day boat which was beautiful and three rooms at the Waveney Inn also lovely. We also booked a table for nine people in the restaurant where we was having a family meal in the evening. We was taking a cake with us to give to my dad and some banners to put up in the restaurant which on arrival my brother had given to the very helpful lady in the restaurant. We arrived at the restaurant a little early and was told we couldn't sit down any earlier as there were four people sitting close behind which was fair enough. We then came back at our booked time and the family hadn't finished but all of a sudden it was OK to sit there. There were no banners put up and I know we was expecting a limited menu but it was just ridiculous. We ordered various dishes and I can honestly say out of the nine meals there was not one that was enjoyable and to be fair if was all easy cook food. There were no starters on the menu and very limited puddings, not that we would have risked it. We asked to see a manager and there wasn't one on site but the lady that was serving did take the worse meal off the bill and gave us a round of drinks which I don't feel really made up for my dad's 80th birthday meal disaster. I would never eat in that place again and feel sad that my dad's birthday ended that way.

Food was good pub food, so no complaints there . Not the best, but good grub. I found the inside eating area lacking atmosphere , it maybe the design layout or the unfashionable furniture . This of course is just my opinion ,and initial feel of the place. The morning full English breakfast was very tasty and I cant fault this in anyway. I was disappointed in the cleanliness of the tables and floor areas. The table were not wiped down and cleaned properly before we sat down to eat. The tables next to us were also not clean. The outside table areas were the same. This of course would be easy to fix, Attention to detail and basic cleanliness is a must . If a reply to this states ,that these areas are always clean, I assure you that this is not the case . Overall its not a bad place and food good.

Previously characterful old inn completely ruined by unsympathetic, commercial refit by Hoseasons in 2014. Not an ‘inn’ by an historic staithe - more a Premier Inn with a generic motorway service station cafe attached. Our room, the Engine Room, was a tiny box, has zero view and only small obscured window opened onto the scruffy yard outside the kitchen and laundry. Almost constant noise from the fridges/fans during the night - sounded like an engine! Incredibly hot - despite the fan provided. We paid the same as for a room with river views and much larger. ‘Hotel’ corridor grey painted, grey doors, narrow, doors bang behind you like a prison. Expected in a Premier Inn - not a formerly country pub. Rooms were clean, beds were comfortable and shower very good - if clinical - only character in whole room was the Norfolk sourced soap.

On the Saturday evening 30th March we booked a table for 6 people at The Waveney Inn for dinner at 8pm. We ordered drinks and two people in the group ordered a pint of Heineken. After the first taste they both agreed that it tasted flat and 'not right' and went to the bar to request a replacement. (They had only taken two sips from each glass) One of your bar ladies (a blonde, tall lady with tattoos) who we perceived to be the shift manager, disagreed that there was anything wrong with the beer. After the two men persisted thay it tasted awful your bar woman took one of their glasses, and took a massive swig from it and returned it saying that there was nothing wrong. We all looked at each in shock as she not only expected him to continue to drink from that glass, she turned to a drunk gentlemem at the bar "you have been drinking this all day, is there anything wrong with it?" and of course he replied no because he was absolutely hammered. She then turned to us and said that the Heineken is extra cold and is meant to be flat!!

We stayed at the Waveney River Lodge and decided to make a visit for food and drink. We order our drinks and the beer was tasteless and flat. I went to the bar to ask for a replacement and the bar lady took a gulp of my beer and said it tasted fine so gave it back to me. She said that the extra cold beer is suppose to taste flat. Once we finished our food we went to play a few games of pool. The pub is suppose to shut at 11pm but we got kicked out at 20 past 10 because they close early if there is no customers. We still had drinks left and was half way through a game of pool. We questioned why we have got to leave early and they lady turned off all the lights why we was still in there. The worst customer service I have ever experienced.

To be able to take our dog with us is always a bonus, so this was a good start. We ate there twice and couldn't fault the food or the service. Definitely would recommend booking a table on a Saturday night as it gets full quickly. After reading other reviews I think the prices were reasonable and very nice fresh food

I would agree with a previous comment. My wife and I have been coming here for years. And today we were very disappointed with the quality of the food and service. Normally the lasagne is great but today it was dry and chewy with garlic bread that didn't taste of garlic at all. The waveney burger was average and we both were left with the same opinion of our meal. That the best bit was the coleslaw. You can understand if things get missed when busy but today was not!!! Only 2 staff out the front and they had to get help from reception. They didn't even know where to take the food ( maybe a table plan in the kitchen would help!!!) Completely different to our last visit.

We have been regulars at the Waveney Inn for many years, and come by boat throughout the season. This year we had not had great experiences, but when we addressed this to the manager, we were pleased to receive a positive response and yesterday we enjoyed a superb meal. The portions were of a good size and delicious - we had the scampi and the ribs. The desserts were delicious too. The drinks were well kept and served wonderful;y cold. The waitress who looked after us could not have been better. Friendly, attentive and professional, they really need to keep hold of her - a real asset. Thank you for a lovely experience on the last day of our boating season, you will be the first place we visit next year and many times throughout the summer.

Had a meal a few weeks ago - best home made lasagne and chips (chips were like chippy chips - yummy) I had ever tasted. Large bill of over £100 for family - but felt it was quality food and worth paying for. Went back last week and it was like going to a different establishment - cold food- missing food- frozen greasy chips - couldn't believe it. It is obvious to me that they have different 'chefs' on different days. Again bill was very large and I felt like I had wasted money on cheap, cold greasy pub food. I won't go back because of this inconsistency and I am so disappointed because I thought I had found a local gem

I’ve just come back from a night at the Waveney inn. I got there to find out that I’d booked the wrong date, so even though they hadn’t prepared for me coming , they really went out of their way to help. There was no one at reception as they had shut but the two ladies behind the bar rang an emergency number and found us a key to a really nice clean spacious room. I was with my mother who has Alzheimer’s, and they really went out of their way to make us all comfortable. These two ladies have only been working there a short while but They were worth their weight in gold.

We spent the weekend at Waveney river centre for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. We arrived late on the Friday night so my brother and husband went to order some pizzas and chips for the family. After waiting ages for the pizzas to be made they returned to our lodge where we found the chips had been fried in with fish. A small white bait was found in with our chips. Not acceptable as 3 of our family members are vegetarians.

I read with interest all the comments about poor food and rude staff. I have to say I’ve never had this experience here or the site as a whole. This is the 8th year we’ve come here and the food was delicious. We have two dogs and they were made very welcome as were we. We had one occasion where the pub was very busy and were asked to wait to order food. This was not done in a rude way and they staff once ordered actually brought it out quite quickly. A lovely pub see you next year!!! Abbie and Dexter say thank you too!!!

The hotel itself is tired looking and in need of a make over. The room was spacious and fairly clean apart from a thick layer of dust in the wardrobe. The worst aspect was the bed which was akin to sleeping on a hard wooden plank! Ironic as they advertise it as: "all about the bed"! It may be a Reylon but it is rock hard and very uncomfortable.

We stayed in one of the rooms but this place has it all! Yurts, pods, camping, cabins and rooms. Lovely peaceful location surrounded by nature. There's a pool onsite, not overly large and you're not able to go swimming on your own as there's no lifeguard. Our room was lovely with a huge bed. The pub was staffed by friendly, chatty and helpful staff. The food was ok, nothing special and the morning breakfast menu needs to be more detailed. We weren't aware we could have anything other than a cooked breakfast but it seems you can! All in all a lovely place which we wouldn't hesitate to return to.

If you want burgers, pie, pizza, fish&chips also on our table location - on a busy food/pedestrian pass- plus a classy constant ‘C bomb’ dropping female barfly atmos - then this the place for you! Used to be great - what the heck has gone wrong? No specials, no drinks service, no enquiry as to if everything was ok (maybe too embarrassed to ask!). Great family (away from the classy barfly) ‘cafe/burger joint - but not a couples restaurant - maybe a commercial choice but not for us sadly anymore.

A lovely place to stop off for a filling bite to eat, with a large assortment of sweet and savory dishes and snacks on the menu. Friendly staff that don't 'overdo it', whilst ensuring a relaxed and attentive service. May be more pricey when ordering for groups of people, but individually it is worth the money. The selection of food we bought was recieved positively, cooked well to order with large and ample amounts, which recieved strains of 'oohs' and 'aahs' of satisfaction, especially towards crispy, flavoursome Scampi, and vinegar-coated, chunky chips. Very pleased with service, food, and cafe layout itself. Only issue is towards prices of drinks, but that can't be helped much due to inflation. All round good experience, leaving us full until the afternoon.

What a lovely manager. It was close to shutting as I pulled in to sort out my baby from crying on my way home to Essex. The manager even though closed invited me and my baby in so I could feed him and offered me tea. Thanks to her I had a happy baby who slept the rest of the hour journey home. That kindness I will never forget and now we plan to go in every time we make the journey now to see the parents. 10000/10

We had a very pleasant meal even though the service was very slow, staff were polite. Very nice atmosphere even though there was a very loud man in the bar. I asked a man who I assume was the manager that there was no soap in the ladies toilet he said he would deal with it but when I was leaving both soap dispensers were still empty so I had to use the disabled toilet. A mocca was ordered and we were charged for a Hot Chocolate and an Americano which came to £5.50, if we had known it would be this price we would not have ordered it, we queried it and were told we should have looked at the menu, there was no Mocca mentioned so we should have been informed.
