Came here with a Groupon deal for 4. first time we've ever had a small chicken carved as part of a carvery but nevertheless vegetables were well cooked and very tasty. The chef was a bit stingy with the meat and we also didn't appreciate the lady manager watching how much veg we took!! for the money it was great value but the place is in dire need of a major refurb and we won't be returning.

Visited recently for a pre-booked afternoon tea. The sandwiches were nice, although our dietary requirements given when booking hadn’t fully acknowledged. The cakes were ok but the scones were not to our taste (gluten free and not homemade). This was the first time we’ve had to make up our own tea from an urn in a corner and not to be expected for an afternoon tea experience. The manageress was pleasant but a shame that we could hear all the conversations she was having with the chef. Unfortunately there was a definite smell within the dated dining area. We wish them well but will not be returning.

Well on arrival we pull into this derelict hotel falling to pieces! Keeping an open mind and not judging a book by its cover we go in, greeted by the manager who instantly knows my name, I thought great service! Then seated in a dining hall the ceiling about to burst and give you an ice bucket challenge! Dried on gravy on the placemats and blown plaster and flaking paint on the walls! The whole place stinks like wet spaniels! The manager asks what drinks we would like I asked what lager they had and it was only one with a name I’ve never heard of no J2O no bottled lagers only panda cola. Drinks are served lager dead and watery tasted like lines have never been cleaned. We’re then ushered to the buffet hostess trolley it was like being in prison! The manager is wearing a nurses paper hat chiselling at a small poussin enough to feed a small child! Hacking at it with a blunt knife breaking a sweat! No chopping board just the metal plate! Clanking! The manager looks up and says sorry folks that’s the last of the Yorkshire’s we’ve had a big run on them! My partner said get the hell out of here! We sat down to finish drinks the manager came over and said is there a problem? We said yes we’re not eating here! With that she said why? And we proceeded to say that the food was lacking dried up and of poor quality. The manager got very aggressive and said well your the last sitting? My partner said but is that an excuse to run out of food she said we had 80 Yorkshire’s normally it’s enough but today we’ve ran out, what a bad attitude and couldn’t take constructive criticism no responsibility and very defensive! My partner said calm down it’s ok we’re going! She said have the drinks on the house we said don’t worry we were going to! The waterside restaurant and Inn is a facade because after booking your phoned to tell you the venue is in-fact the fountain court hotel Hythe! Hideous hovel of an establishment! We left and went to the pilgrim hotel. BUY CHEAP BY TWICE!

Really lovely carvery, we visited today (2 adults & 2 children), the staff were very friendly and nothing was any trouble. We did use he Groupon offer and it was fab but equally will be returning as “full” paying customers. The roast was great, all home cooked and very tasty - the beef was cooked perfectly! (Which you don’t often find at carverys! The carrots were especially amazing, compliments to the chef on those. We also had puddings, which were delicious too (Sticky Toffee pudding and carrot & walnut cakes!) I liked it that it was bookings only, so didn’t feel rushed at all and food was all fresh for our booking. We will be booking again for next month. Thank you and see you soon.

We went to 'The Waterside Inn Bar and Restaurant’ , this is within the Fountain Court Hotel. We had the Cream Tea for Two. The Manageress greeted us at the door and she recalled me from our telephone conversation when we confirmed our booking .She introduced herself as Thelma and her partner Colin was the Chef. She sat us by the window and brought us some hot water for our drinks and informed us what the cream tea delights consisted of, they sounded really nice, and when she did bring them out on two slate cake stands well WOW there was plenty there for us. We had finger sandwiches consisting of Tuna, Egg, Ham and Cheese, then there were 3 varieties of cake, Chocolate Fudge, Lemon Drizzle and Toffee. ( these were quite big slices too) And then fruit scone, jam and clotted cream. We were able to have as much tea and coffee as we wanted. I have to say that when I spoke with the Thelma on the phone it was regarding my Nut Allergy, she informed me that she would make sure our food contained no nuts whatsoever and that it would no come in contact with any too. So when we sat down she went through the food she would be bringing out she again stressed that there was no nuts, it was nice that I didn't have to check this myself just to make sure she had not forgotten my initial very important request (this has happened many a time at other restaurants) During our time there Thelma did come and make sure everything was ok. Well, both my husband and I we’re well and truly full and could not compliment the food enough. We ate at 2pm and its 830pm now and I am still not hungry!

Not been to the fountain court in years and when we went in it was as if we had gone back in time The whole place is run down and just feels and looks like it has been derelict for years If this were a up to date nicely decorated building it would easily score a five The staff friendly and helpful the food really good It’s just not good when you feel like you are sat in a rundown conservatory and are waiting for someone to just turn out the lights on their way out

After being let down at the eleventh hour we needed to find a local venue to host a 70th birthday party, and quick. Up stepped Thelma and Colin at the Waterside Inn (fountain court hotel). And I have to say they were brilliant. From helping to decorate the room to ordering the mother-in-law's favourite wine (and a bottle of spiced rum, thanks Colin!), nothing was too much effort. Also, there were no constraints placed on the booking: as the food and entertainment had already been arranged these all went ahead as arranged. Thanks to the Waterside Inn the party went ahead and was a great success. So thank you Waterside Inn for putting on a great party!

We had been at Christmas time and had an outstanding Christmas day meal, good service and a great price. Now we had heard that new owners had taken over the restaurant and were concentrating more on food than the previous lady and had even opened a carvery so we were keen to come down and indulge once again! However, on arriving the atmosphere was lacking and the restaurant empty. Reception dark and smelly and nobody to greet us. No background noise of music or people. All we could hear was the waiter and who I assume to be the new owner shouting across the bar to eachother. Nevertheless, we ordered 4 carvery and went to the stand to pile up our plates. The food was standard, luke warm and the meat uncovered and unheated. We had already been seated and ordered drinks (small selection). The restaurant has been decorated but we couldn't help but feel the new decor looked empty and dated. The overall experience was completely tarred by the new owner (again, I assume this is the new owner) we found her very false and unwelcoming within her general aura. We hadn't even asked why it had been taken over but our meal was slightly spoiled with the negative story of previous owners she had given us (we had been a few times before and loved it, and as I mentioned - for Christmas day too!) I found the owner arrogant and self centred. I think the entire experience would improve if this lady was to stay behind the scenes and employ professional staff that encourage an enjoyable atmosphere and relaxed carvery. Again - food standard. Disappointing compared to the walnut tree farm!

When I first walked in I was unsure on my visit, but the food did surprise me and was exquisite and therefore definitely deserves a Star on this review. Secondly, the Staff are: pleasant, polite and cheery. However, nowhere is perfect and it isn’t very aesthetically pleasing. Plus, it doesn’t exactly have a very welcoming vibe. Despite the criticism, this restaurant has plenty of potential, and it’s only a matter of time until it will reach its peak of potential. I would probably plan another visit to view the improvements soon.

Lunch with an old friend yesterday was excellent. The menu was short but had good choices and the dishes we chose were very good if not excellent. The service was heplful, attentive and polite witouth being intrusive. The price for a our lunches was reasonable. Altogether a most successful and satisfying lunch.

Food was ok but overpriced. Service was incredibly slow. Food took about an hour to arrive, on a Sunday with really not many people there. Nice place though.

We had the most amazing mini-moon stay at The Beach House. The guesthouse is beautifully decorated with rustic charm, stunning sea views, and even a glimpse of the Isle of Wight. Our room was spacious and comfortable, and we especially loved the freestanding bath! The staff made our stay extra special. Alex, our first waiter, was so bubbly and friendly – he even brought us complimentary champagne when he found out we had just got married. He was also super knowledgeable about the local brewery’s beers. Leanne greeted us warmly, noticed my wedding bouquet, and remembered us throughout our stay, always checking in. On our second night, Leo was fantastic – he gave great food recommendations and carefully checked ingredients when I asked, showing real care and attention. Overall, this was the best stay we’ve ever had. We’re so glad we chose The Beach House and can’t wait to come back – highly recommend!

We visited the Filly Inn after seeing the kids menu and liking the fact it had some "healthier" options like toad in the hole with veggies, cottage pie with veggies rather than the usual chicken nuggets and chips. When we arrived and walked in we loved the decor and the fact you could see straight into the kitchen, so could watch your food being cooked. We took a seat at our table feeling that we were about to have a wonderful dinner out, but that soon changed. The service was terribly slow, considering there was only one other couple in there eating! I ordered the pate and my partner ordered the calamari. When it arrived the calamari was missing the miso mayo, so my partner asked politely if he could have the mayo and the waitress did not apologise and simply turned her back and wandered over to the kitchen, we could hear the kitchen staff sniggering and the squeezed some plain mayo into a dish and brought it over. We are not ones to complain, so we just ate what we were given. And this is the most frustrating part, the food was fantastic. As I made my way through the pate, I soon realised my three tiny crostini bits of bread was not enough for my kilner pot of pate, so I asked for some extra bits of crostini so I could finish my lovely pate as I can not just eat the pate alone. Again, the waitress did not apologise and just looked at me shocked and walked off. Again, I could hear sniggering from the kitchen and as my bits of crostini was brough out, I heard the chef say "she will probably want more pate now"! I was shocked by this, I didn't think asking for an adequate amount of bread with the amount pate that was served was a big ask and on the menu it reads it comes with ciabatta and this was definitely not ciabatta, it was three tiny pieces of crostini. When our table was cleared, our drinks were empty but we were not offered more drinks, therefore we asked. Our old bottles, glasses were not taken and when our second round of drinks arrived they still were not taken. Our mains came out, and again it was delicious - I had the mushroom pie, my partner had shepards pie and my son had toad in the hole. We always order dessert, but we just wanted to leave by this point as we felt unwelcome, so we asked for the bill. When the bill came, we were charged for the extra bits of crostini and also, 12.5% service charge. I would like to say that we always tip generously, but 12.5% service charge for inadequate service was quite hard to swallow. But as I said, we always leave a tip so we did not ask for this to be removed. Now, onto the charge for the extra crostini, now I do not mind being charged for extra but I feel that this was not an "extra" this was just compensating for the lack of bread that was misadvertised and put onto my original plate. Also, that fact that my partner never got his miso mayo. In hindsight, we should have complained at the time, but we are not ones to cause a fuss, especially with my son present and by now a family sitting behind us, so just paid the full amount including the service charged and left. We would have been regulars and would have recommended the Filly Inn to others, but we won't be returning and tell people to avoid. I would like to end this review with a plea to the management - you have the decor and the food right, it was lovely but you can't go on just that alone. Please just work on the service and just the finishing touches that make people want to return and recommend.

After a 3 night booking I would just like to say that it was really disappointing to hear the hotel would not refund any money after having to leave a day early due to an emergency at home. The reason being we paid by secret escape vouchers given to us as a present for our 70th birthdays. We therefore feel there was less respect and courtesy as a company from the hotel depending on how you paid. Secret escapes informed us the hotel refused to refund any money. We will not return to this hotel and will pass on information on our media and family posts.
