The Watershed in Brighton and Hove

We came for a Sunday lunch and was amazed by the quality of food. The price is reasonable and the Sunday lunch was one of the best we’ve ever had. Service was great. And a good atmosphere. Highly recommend.

My partner and I used to go to the Marina regularly prior to lockdown, but haven't been in a while because lots of the restaurants we liked there have since closed down, and the level of service in ones that remain, are now woeful (I'm talking to you TGI's). So, when my partner found this place online and saw the glowing reviews, we thought this might give us reason to rediscover the Marina: The menu was varied and enticing. And the prospect of sitting out among the moored boats sounded idyllic. We went on a very warm day, and the setting was indeed lovely. The first disappointment came with the menu. It was unrecognisable from the one we saw online. I was also taken aback by some of the prices (£15 for a plate of nachos with the option of chilli for an extra £2?!) Despite the price, I went ahead and ordered the nachos. Though expensive, I held out a faint hope they'd be worth the money. When they arrived, the waitress handed a scalding hot plate to me without any warning. My 10 year old son ordered the same thing, but mercifully, I was given mine first. My partner described the nachos perfectly: "Basically, £15 for a packet of crisps. They haven't done anything to them." Speaking of my partner, she ordered the calamari with a side order of fries. She described the calamari as soft rather than crispy - all a bit "Meh". The fries were plentiful but greasier than musical set in the 1950s. But that wasn't the worst part. I've had a few portions of fries in my time and these were the type you'd get in a low rent kebab shop. They had a wierd taste and an odd colour which I'm guessing was old/cheap oil. They were so bad, we left half of them; that takes some doing considering me and my 10 year old son's love of fries. One last thing, I ordered a pint of diet pepsi. What I was given wasn't diet pepsi. It tasted more like cheap super market own brand cola. And to be charged £4.60 for it added insult to injury. £4.60?!! Overall, a pretty bad experience, made all the more perplexing by all the glowing reviews. I guess we may have caught them on a bad day, but in all honesty, we shan't be returning to give them another chance. I've given them 2 stars for the location, but even that was tainted by the plumes of cigarette smoke emanating from the other patrons. Not the owners fault I know, but far from ideal when you're there with young children.

As I was heading to Brighton I googled the best places for a Sunday lunch and the Watershed came up as a good one to try.....and wow, they were not wrong. It was one of the best Sunday lunches I have had in a long time. Absolutely delicious. Fresh vegetables. Chicken that melted in your mouth. The gravy was so tasty. My friends beef looked and tasted gorgeous. Relaxed, friendly atmosphere. I would definitely recommend.

Had a get together for my 60th and wow!! I cannot praise the staff enough, so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet was excellent- the best I’ve had anywhere- so many of my friends and family commented on it. A wonderful evening at a fabulous venue. I really can’t recommend it enough. Thank you to all concerned.

The position in the middle of the Marina is excellent; watching all the boats coming and going. The staff were very helpful and good fun. They have a very helpful and happy approach. The manager even helped me out with a hat as I had forgotten mine. We enjoyed our food, but I would like a choice of wines. Thank you to the staff that made the Redknaps feel very welcome.

A great club with fantastic staff, food and reasonably priced drinks. It’s in a nice location with great views and although it’s a club it is open to members of the public. Food has always been available when we have been and it is a great quality.

Having tried numerous Sunday roasts over the past few months, I can honestly say this was the best roast beef I have ever eaten. Liam the chef works incredibly hard and delivers well presented beautifully cooked roast dinners. Staff here are amazing too with special thanks to Faith, Corina, Harry and Ernst who ensured we were well looked after. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone who appreciates great food and great service. Thank you for a lovely Sunday, we will be back very soon !

Lovely Sunday lunch with 5 friends, served and hosted by the most friendly server faith, she was lovely charming and diligent. Even handling a silly complaint by one of our group. (apologies for that) Thanks to the Watershed lunch was delicious, and thanks again to faith. Your amazing. Xx

This is a yacht club's restaurant. Nice food and good atmosphere - even on a Monday lunchtime. The lady managing the restaurant was really helpful without being 'in one's face'. Recommended

Shocked how truly terrible this meal was . From the 'specials' board we were looking forward to a real treat . It was pulled pork taco , hot plate , cold meal , bits off fatty pork , globby flavourless mess . My husband had curry and some sort of popadums. We saw. pie go out on a side plate ( £17? ) Lovely waitress but seemed to be her first night as she didn't know what the meals were . I could see the oil for frying was old and dirty as a fish plate came out with dark brown batter . We have had a horrible roast here before , but thought we would give them another chance . Never again!

Sunday lunch. Roast chicken and trimmings. Disappointed. Roast potatoes were leathery and warmed up. Large chicken pieces, not sliced roast chicken. One small ball of stuffing. Poor. Not to be recommended!
