My wife and I have been to this restaurant several times when we visit Hythe. We went for lunch again and were not disappointed, the food was excellent and the service first class. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this restaurant for all round pleasantness with a striking view of the water.

We visited The Waterfront Restaurant in Hythe for my husband’s birthday as a party of seven, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The food was absolutely lovely – beautifully presented and full of flavour. Every dish was well-prepared and enjoyed by all. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive throughout the evening, striking the perfect balance between professionalism and friendliness. They really helped make the occasion feel special. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with a relaxed yet vibrant vibe that made it a truly enjoyable evening. Whether you’re celebrating something special or just fancy a great meal out, The Waterfront is well worth a visit. We’ll definitely be returning!

Lovely restaurant, beautifully decorated with outside and inside area right on the sea front. Very friendly welcome from the staff even though we were only popping in for a morning coffee (which was excellent). Only tip I would give to anyone is to make sure to tell the staff if you are parked in the car park. I forgot and have had a £60 parking fine ! Learned this lesson the hard way.

Just what the beachfront needed in Hythe. Great location, great service, good food although a touch over priced. However, because of location and service we tolerated the price and quality of food for lunch and dinner......don't get me wrong better than much of what the area has to offer.

I visited the Waterfront on Sunday last and I had a very pleasant experience. The warm, modern decor and soft ambient lighting created an inviting atmosphere, perfect for a relaxed afternoon in a stunning beach front location. The service was impeccable—our various waiters were consistently attentive without being intrusive, offering excellent recommendations and ensuring our glasses were never empty and that our food was served in a welcoming and timely manner. For me, the highlight was the food. I started with the Oysters which were fresh and succulent and perfectly balanced with the usual accompaniments. For the main course, I had the Sunday roast, beautifully executed and generously portioned. I had the lamb which was perfectly cooked, tender and moist. Dessert was just as impressive—a classic plum and apple tart that was light, flavoursome, and not overly sweet. Every bite felt like a perfect ending to a flawless meal. Friends of mine were equally complimentary of their dishes and the overall experience. With its outstanding food, top-notch service, and cozy ambiance, The Waterfront is a must for anyone visiting Hythe.

I seen the set menu on The Waterfronts Facebook page and had to try it, it's such a good deal. I opted for the 2 course for £22.50 as I fancied seafood. To start I had the crispy whitebait, this was lovely. Full of flavour and it came with a tartar sauce which was perfect to dip into. Then for main I had dressed crab, this was out of this world. There was plenty of crab meat and full of flavour. It came with some salad leaves and the best Marie rose sauce I have ever had. It also came with a lovely thick slice of bread with butter. The combination of it all was perfect. When I come back I want to try the chicken burger as that sounds just as amazing.

This place was a favourite of ours, for the food and the views, but I have to say, you really sense cost cutting on the plate. The portions are tiny for the main meals. I had the Dressed Crab off the Set Menu, served with salad and bloomer bread. That's one piece of bread (small), a tiny salad not presented nicely and the crab itself was freezing cold (not chilled) and boring. Pudding was more disappointing with a replaced blueberry cheesecake, implying it's made with blueberries. It was some synthetic or cheap replacement with a ton of sickly chunky blueberry sauce served over the top of it. The thing is, the staff are great, the place is lovely, but compared to our last visit, the food for the price is poor, and we felt a bit cheated, from previous fantastic experiences including plenty of food. It's a shame. I know times are tricky for businesses, but I don't like the customer covering the gap.

It would be wonderful to have a great local restaurant but the waterfront is not. We gave it a miss for over a year after our last bad meal and this evening had an even worst meal. The waiting staff are brilliant and do not deserve having to serve the rubbish produced by the kitchen. The sea view is the only saving grace.

Our first and last time at The Waterfront Restaurant. First impressions were not good with music blaring out. We did ask twice if the volume could be turned down. The Roasted Heritage Beetroot starter comprised of a couple of thin slivers of beetroot and pear, certainly not worthy of its £10 price tag. The very dry fish pies arrived in battered tin dishes more suited to an army canteen. In our opinion a very overpriced and very average restaurant and we felt robbed at the £140 bill for a very mediocre meal in very noisy surroundings.

This is my favourite place by far. I came to try their new set menu, which is an amazing deal. The pea and ham soup was out of this world. It came with crusty bread, which was the perfect addition for dunking into the soup. My partner chose the fish cake. It came with a bacon and cheese sauce that complemented the fish cake perfectly; all the flavours worked so well together. For my main dish, I had mushroom risotto, which was full of flavour. The sauce was just right—not too much—and there was the perfect amount of mushrooms. We then shared the turkey and leek pie. The pastry was flaky and not too thick. It came with some vegetables that paired beautifully with the sauce in the pie. To finish we both got the cheese board so we could try all 4 cheeses on offer. Everyone of them was perfect. Just the right amount of cheese to top off an amazing meal.

Visited for Christmas Day dinner. Disappointed. I have a seafood allergy so had little choice for starter. Main meal we both had beef which was delicious. However vegetables were very hard and it was poorly presented sith lots of food hidden under the meat. The desserts were good. Cannot fault the waitress ser v ice and the atmosphere was good. I feel the price was too dear for what we got

Thought we’d give the waterfront one more go after our last visit wasn’t the best. Seven of us visited the waterfront, we had two fish and chips, one meal had a decent portion of chips on, the other had eight chips, the waitress apologized and got some more chips but added them to the bill, other than that the fish and chips were really nice, two children had spaghetti bolognese which were both nice, one had a burger meal which was awful, black and hard like a brick, last two had the chicken schnitzel which just wasn’t edible, we spoke to the waiter and he came over to the table to take a look and apologized and said that it wasn’t right, he took it back to the kitchen. I went downstairs to the toilet only to hear from the kitchen “ what do they want it raw then” with that I stood and listened, he was slating us, with that I walked into the kitchen and told the chef that if he wants to slag us off then it’s probably a good idea to shut the kitchen door, he said he’s been cooking those dishes for fourteen years, I won’t but on here my reply to him, I then walked out the kitchen, went upstairs where the waiter had heard what went on apologized for the chefs behavior, I told the waiter the chefs attitude sucks, he said he knows and they have to put up with him like this all the time. We will never return to this restaurant, my only suggestion I have for you is to get rid of the chef before he cripples your business altogether, waiting staff were great and very attentive.

We visited with four others and had the Christmas set menu. There were a good number of options available to cater for most tastes . The restaurant was very busy and had a great atmosphere. There were plenty of Christmas decorations and on the Saturday night we were there we had live music. The quality of the food was very good, tasty , nicely presented with very ample portions. We also had wines and beers. The food service was initially a little slow but l put that down to our booking being at peak times however the staff were very attentive and helpful. We all thoroughly enjoyed the evening with really excellent food at very reasonable prices. My only criticism is that there were No Brussels Sprouts and although that is a positive for many l would have liked a sprout or two. Great meal .

This is my favourite place to eat in Hythe. Everything is always perfect. I started off with the crispy chilli beef. This was out of this world. The batter was perfectly cooked and somehow the beef was so tender inside. I loved the sweet chilli dip that came with it. This was accompanied with some veg. My parter opted for the squid, king prawn and chorizo starter. Again, he said this was perfect. He said everything was amazing and all the flavours complimented each other, it came with aioli and bread which he used to soak up the excess garlic butter. For mains, I had the steak burger, just wow. I really liked that the specified the burger is 8oz, it was a mouthful and so juicy. I did decide to add bacon and cheese at an additional cost but it was really worth it. This came with chunky chips, they were crispy on the outside and light and fluffy on the inside. My partner ended up going for the 10 oz steak, he has it medium rare and it was cooked perfectly. It was an amazing cut. He also had chunky chips with his meal and some lovely vine tomatoes on the side. We were pretty full, so we enjoyed a few drinks and then cheeseboard to end the night. This was so good but we didn't manage to finish it. The selection of cheese was great, a good selection of biscuits and good chutneys. You can see why The waterfront has won a diners choice award. We have also booked for Christmas day. We can't wait.

Just responding to the managements response to PetsPonies' review. We liked the Waterfront, lovely service, excellent decor, and nice snacks and coffee. However, about the parking, Its an unusual arrangement, my son in law parked in the car park and got a ticket in th epost a couple of weeks later. The signs say for patrons only and seeing that you don't tend to read anything else - because you intend to be a patron. Second, if, as we did, one party arrives first and gets a table the later party doesn't stop at the entrance podium but just goes staright to the table to joint the others, therefore they would not be asked to supply Reg number, and in anycase, arriving first, we did wait to be seated and still were not asked to give a Reg number, we had parked in the street tho but the staff wouldn't have known that. So perhaps you could review the system - have a sign that first clearly says Registration number required for parking or something similar. (Five star apart from this parkign issue)

There were 9 of us for lunch on Saturday. The restaurant was not busy and the sea view lovely. Some of us had 3 courses and others 2. The food seems now very overpriced compared to other restaurants of a similar kind. Several main courses (fish pie and steak + ale pie) were cool plus the steak and ale pie was served on a large pastry case with a puff pastry top and a spoonful of meat - not hot and mashed potatoes. What is happening in the kitchen? The wine starts at £31 a bottle upwards. The waitress was very attentive and helpful.

We stopped here for lunch whilst on a spontaneous trip to Hythe. The restaurant was packed but we managed to get a table inside. The service was a bit hit and miss and the staff were all over the place. When the food arrived it was very nice, I had mussels and they were good. We left without paying the service charge in the end as everything took too long

We called in for drinks or a wet afternoon. As we had a dog with us, we could only sit outside but this might have been the better deal because the interior was very busy indeed. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and braved the rain to serve us our drinks. Our drinks were freshly made and, as they tasted good, they were very welcome. We did have a look at the menu, on which there was a good choice, and the food we saw being served looked well-presented and smelt delicious. I have no doubt that we will be back to try the food.

I was convinced that the outside barman was scamming the outside customers. I wrote to the management to try to get them to investigate to stop others being cheated. I have not even received a reply so the scam is probably still continuing.

Had a wonderful Friday evening at The Waterfront. We were greeted by a lovely waitress, who showed us to our seats. There is some steps to get in and out of the restaurant, so this is worth noting if you have any issues climbing stairs. Also, the restaurant is 2 tiered, with more steps leading up to the upper section, but we were seated on the lower. I went straight in for a main and the food was absolutely delicious. The reason we booked, was because we saw that there was a Motown evening and my wife loves that genre of music. The guy singing was absolutely fantastic and even serenaded my wife, which was a lovely touch. All in all, a great night for me and the wife. We will definitely be returning soon.

Great location right on Hythe beach and perfect spot on a sunny day to dine Al fresco. We dined here towards the end of service and sat on the raised decking section outside. The restaurant was busy with a nice atmosphere although clashing music with jazz being played outside and 90’s tracks inside. The seafood is great here although pricey. Service was ok although a little slow and when we asked the waitress about moving inside when it was a bit chilly later in the evening she never came back to us! We would come back here and the location is superb especially on a warm sunny day, although you don’t have many of those in the UK!

Lovely pre-booked table in the window overlooking the sea. We both chose their traditional fish and chips. It was good but no longer in my view special. Prices overall have gone up alarmingly, but the restaurant was still very busy and a nice girl singer.

Good customer service seems to be a dying trade these days, but not at the Waterfront. Our servers Megan and Jack were so professional. As one of us was gluten-free, everything was double checked and our meals on both days that we visited were superb. We wish we lived nearer as we would visit more often. Great atmosphere and excellent food.

The Sunday roast was £16.50, with only two choices, roast beef, lamb or mixed. But when the young girl brought over the roasts, she mixed up the order. The service could be improved. It was a large portion with vegetables. The Yorkshire pudding on one of the roasts were burnt. It was very busy with a lot of locals, we were lucky to get a table at 2pm walk in, with no booking.

Edit: Changed my review after eating here at the weekend. Spring menu is bland and uninspiring. Ended up sending my ribeye steak back after finding it was full of water, bland and chewy. The fries that came with it are literally McDonalds fries, not what you would expect from something costing £35. Thankfully it was taken off the bill. When I asked the waiter what the cheeses were for dessert he said "a blue, a cheddar and something else". Also it took 2 hours to have 2 courses, took an age for any kind of drinks, 20 minutes for olives to arrive etc etc. I like a leisurely lunch but that's too long. And for the love of god stop putting fries and other sides in silly little bowls.

Sunday lunch was fresh, tasty and amazing gravy. Great portion sizes and friendly staff. Comfortable, clean dining and bar area. Its a winner at £15 per head. Also has a car park. Will definitely return. Also have 2-3 course menu for Fri/Sat which looks very reasonable.
