Roast Beef or Lamb, 2 opted for Roast Beef and one Roast Lamb, wow this was simply outstanding. Roast Beef and Lamb were tender and very generous portions definitely the best roast we have ever had with all the trimmings and great selection of vegetables, too full to have a desert, had filter coffee instead. Lived up to what we were told it would be. Thank you 😊.

We both enjoyed lamb shanks in probably the best gravy I’ve ever tasted. Friendly service and a nice atmosphere; we thoroughly recommend this pub tucked away in the recesses of old Folkestone.

I didn't want to stop as did not check the reviews about this place. However I am so glad I did the food was really good had a home cooked taste clearly care about what they do. Reasonably priced too definitely will visit again soon

A lovely traditional pub but with up to date food and service. I went with a large pre-booked group for a special occasion. Plenty of choice, freshly cooked very tasty food, effeciently served despite numbers. They did us proud but you will need to go with a good appetite, portions are generous.

Excellent staff always polite and helpful at the busiest times. Food is great. Had the boozy beef and apple pie custard which were amazing. The decor is brilliant. 👍

Always a very friendly welcome and atmosphere

A beautiful Sunday roast, full plates with very generous portions. Tender beef with all the trimmings. Dee and Nick are setting high standards. The tables were fully booked and service was attentive and prompt. Folkestone's oldest pub is keeping the customers happy.

Had a lovely meal here today celebrating our son's birthday with family. The food was enjoyable, hot and portions were big. We had our two small grandchildren which were made welcome. (No high chair but that wasn't an issue). Being a pub we made sure they didn't run around and sat still so other customers could enjoy their meal. We visit this pub for a meal every time we visit Folkestone as it has a lovely friendly atmosphere.

This place is fabulous. The bar staff are brilliant and funny and give a very warm welcome. The food is generous and fresh. We feel very lucky to have stumbled upon The British Lion and would love to come back.

We had the special cod bites with sweet chilli sauce and chips. Batter was amazing as was the fish.

Yet to try food so can't rate for now. The place itself is a nice quaint location and get typically an old English style pub. Has 2 outside areas which are quite nice and on a sunny day it feels even better!

My wife and I recently held our wedding reception here and we could not thank Dee and Nick enough for hosting us. They did their upmost to make sure the afternoon went as smoothly as possible and were extremely accommodating of all our guests...which there were quite a lot of! A great pub with a great vibe and really good choice of drinks. Location is perfect and exactly what you want from a pub. We're local and regularly pop in, the food is very good and the staff are extremely friendly...always a smile on their faces. All round one of the best pubs in Folkestone hands down.

The British Lion is and has been one the jewels of Folkestone for many years Have just been back again - probably the best fish and chip meal in Folkestone with excellent and friendly service.

Excellent service and food staff were excellent nothing to much trouble, fish and chips were the best fish and batter I have ever had such a cosy pub and great atmosphere one nice little touch being in the pot with all the sachets of ketchup and mayonnaise there was a pair of scissors to open sachets with!!! will definitely be back

This is an old pub. The oldest in town in fact. Traditional in every way. Great selection of beers. Excellent food at sensible prices. You won't get better fish and chips. The service is friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is warm. It isn't a posh upmarket place but it does what it does to a very high standard and is honest good value.

We visited for lunch. Fantastic meals and generous portions. I had the steak and kidney pudding which was superb and came with fresh veg and new potatoes. My partner had the fish and chips which was outstanding. The pub was very busy and the lady behind the bar was very friendly and extremely efficient and her customer service was outstanding. Lovey atmosphere, good value. Thoroughly enjoyed.

We went here, as we know we're going to get a tasty filling meal in a lovely atmosphere. We sat in the Dickens corner and ordered Lamb Shank, ham egg & chips and from the Specials Board, harbour masters pie. The food was delicious and with a decent amount of vegetables to go with it, five in all. It's what you want from a traditional British pub! The service was friendly, and we had a lovely chat with the landlady to top it all off.

We arived at half past eight at night, was a little apprehensive about asking for a table due to the time. Was told it would be no issue, the pub was very busy. The food was served in decent time and had an properly homecook taste, feel and smell about it. Over all an amazing place looking forward to a Sunday roast soon!!! Two main meals, two pints and a soft drink forty-two quid cant complain. Absolute gem.

This pub is very traditional and very unique. If you like an old fashioned pub with a personal service this could be for you. Plus it's in the best part of central Folkestone.

Went for Sunday roast with two of our friends. Lovely meal in a real traditional pub surrounding. Although they were busy the wait to place our order was acceptable. My wife and I have been to the pub several times but for our friends it was the first time and they were very impressed. The atmosphere and the friendliness of the staff make the British Lion well worth a visit. Thanks to all.

We enjoyed a couple of pints in one of two tiny terraces out back. It looks to be very popular with diners too so we'll be trying it for dinner or Sunday lunch sometime soon. The bar lady was very friendly too. Only thing that threw was that it opened at 7pm - who does that? I don't think it's open every day either which seems to be a Folkstone peculiarity.

Booked a table for 8 people for Sunday lunch. Our roast dinners were excellent, accomplished by lots of perfectly cooked vegetables. Those of us who had puddings were not disappointed either - all brilliant. The staff were superb and nothing was too much trouble. The ale consumed was also excellent. Fantastic, proper pub with a great atmosphere. We will be back!

Absolutely delicious. An amazing pub/restaurant. The food is freshly cooked and absolutely loads of it. Delicious but not expensive. Been several times now and will keep going. The Sunday roasts are wonderful.

Stumbled across this little gem of a pub whilst going to a gig at the leas cliff hall, great beer and although I was too late to order food what I saw coming from the kitchen looked inviting.i will definitely return and recommend.

After sadly attending the funeral of a much loved family member, we held the wake at this pub. The greeting on arrival from Sue was lovely and the buffet they provided was exceptional. Dee catered for all of our dietary needs (gluten free and vegetarian) with lots of choices for everyone. Dee and Sue were so friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was just what we needed after a stressful afternoon. I can’t recommend this place enough for a function and I’ll be visiting again as a patron because the food menu looked amazing. Huge thanks to everyone

Just went in for a drink, had to sit outside as it smelt like a toilet inside. Did not have any food.

Lovely service and food. Arrived late without a reservation and as kitchen nearly closing but still welcomed us in to eat. Quickly served with hot, tasty excellent meals. Made very welcome and fusses for our 2 small doggies. Thank you so much.

It was many years since I last visited this pub and even longer since I first visited and what was a rather rowdy unprepossessing pub is now a good tradition pub and it is easy to believe it is the oldest pub in Folkestone. There are 3 ales and a good selection of other drinks. Food is served but I didn't eat here. The outdoor area was quite small but well kept and very pleasant on the sunshine

Fantastic "old school" pub. The family went here for a Sunday roast and it was really nice. I remember coming here three years ago and nothing has changed. You get a proper family run pub feeling here. There's history and nostalgia everywhere. There's books, games, old photographs and menus highlighting the specials. Inside the pub is quite tight as the pub drinkers sit on stools near the restaurant seating. There isn't much parking around but it is worth the walk. Staff are very friendly and welcoming and the food is very good value for money. Will be back.
