We booked a table for 14 people, even though most of us had the Sunday roast a few others had something different on the menu but it was all bought out together. The scotch egg starter was really nice. I had roast beef which was absolutely gorgeous, very lean, with Yorkshire pudding and roasties. The veg was served separately and there was plenty for all of us that had the roast, loved the cheesy broccoli. The lasagne and curry dish was a big hit aswell. The staff were brilliant ,attentive and very patient with us considering there was so many at the table. Will definitely return.

We called in for Sunday Lunch, and although we had not booked they managed to accommodate us. I had the roast gammon, my sister had the veggie burger, and my cousin had the vegetable crumble. We found all the meals to excellent. My sister remarked that the veggie burger actually looked and tasted of vegetables which is unusual to find considering the Vegan Brigade's demands for burgers to look and taste like meat. All in all excellent meals with extremely helpful, pleasant, and efficient staff. Will definitely visit again

We had a lovely time dining at The Walnut Tree. Although several main dishes were sold out, the options we chose were both delicious and generously portioned. For dessert, everything was excellent, though we did feel that the chocolate brownie portion was smaller compared to the other desserts. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the ample parking was a plus. Overall, a great experience, and we look forward to returning!

After having a wonderful experience with the Sunday lunch in July, unfortunately, this time was a huge disappointment. We had this as takeaway, the same as last time, but Portion sizes are very poor compared to what we have had before. Very little amount of vegetables and no gravy. Had to cook extra vegetables to make it look more like a Sunday dinner. Had I have sneezed, it would have sent it flying off of the plate. Unsure if we would return, which would be a great shame, as we have eaten there and had takeaways quite a lot before.

It’s hard to give a review for this place, because outwards it looks like a lovely local pub, with a big garden, plenty of tables, some of which were undercover as a bonus. The staff seemed pleasant, friendly and welcoming, and the food smelt great walking in. However, we turned up at just gone 7pm on a Wednesday night as a group of 8. Admittedly we hadn’t booked but we were told there would be no room for us to eat because there was a table of 2 and a table of 5 that had not long arrived. This was really disappointing as whilst I appreciate 8 people turning up unannounced is a lot, there were only 7 covers in front of us. If your chef can only cater for 7 people then can you call yourself a restaurant? The staff were apologetic and amicable in suggesting we could sit in the pub garden and order a takeaway to eat there, which we did, although that took a long time to arrive as there are none close by. It was nice of them to allow us to eat in the garden though. The table of 2 and table of 5 were served fairly quickly, and were eating by just gone 8pm which was a bit of a shame really as it felt like we could have been squeezed in - the pub probably lost £150-£200 by not serving us food which is their choice of course, I just hope they’re not losing money regularly that could be helping the establishment. I’m giving it 4 stars because the pub looks lovely, big garden, friendly and polite staff, and the food looked and smelt lovely. I would recommend people call ahead and see if they can reserve a table to avoid being disappointed!

This was our first visit to The Walnut Tree and as we weren’t sure what time we’d be arriving we hadn’t booked, however the staff were very welcoming and accommodating and quickly found a table for us. Our drinks and food orders were taken in a timely manner and the staff were polite and attentive. We both ordered the cod and chips which were delicious - and generous in portion size! We thought this pub had a lovely friendly atmosphere and will definitely be returning.

We hadn’t been to the Walnut Tree since it changed hands so thought we would give it a try for Sunday lunch. We called to ask if they could do a takeaway which they happily agreed to. On arrival we were quite surprised…..really well packed and still hot. We both had roast beef……well, it was fabulous, two large slices of beef which were thick and succulent. We had roast potatoes, peas, carrots, broccoli spears, a lovely homemade Yorkshire pudding, stuffing, broccoli cheese and lovely gravy. Portion wise it was very generous. For pudding we had sticky toffee pudding and custard. It was a smashing meal and we will definitely order again. Well done to the new owners……

13 of us went for a birthday celebration. Food and service was excellent, nice atmosphere and not to crowded for a Friday evening. Only two slightly negative thoughts. Car park isn't very big so you may have to park on the road outside and the drinks are very expensive at the bar £5.50 for guiness and £6.55 for a gin n tonic. Over all I'd recommend it for food n atmosphere.

My recent visit to The Walnut Tree in Aldington left me with mixed feelings. I was initially disappointed to learn that the restaurant was under new management and the Sunday roast no longer offered a choice of meats. Instead, the price was based on the number of courses. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the roast, which consisted of two slices of gammon and a couple of slices of roast beef for those who chose that option. The roast potatoes and carrots were cooked to perfection, but the cheesy broccoli was a bit too hard for my liking. Unfortunately, the menu lacked allergy information and did not specify that the broccoli was cheesy. The portion of sticky toffee pudding was decent, but I found it lacking in sticky sauce. The apple crumble, on the other hand, was quite small in comparison. Despite these minor disappointments, the standout feature of my visit was the lovely service provided by the wait staff. In conclusion, The Walnut Tree in Aldington offers a nice roast and pleasant service, but there are some improvements that could be made to the menu and portion sizes. Overall, I would still recommend it for a Sunday roast or a casual dining experience.

We booked a table for lunch for a special family celebration. Have eaten here previously and have always been impressed with the food here, but today was an absolute disappointment. Starters were fine, but main meals and desserts were a let down. Food was very bland, vegetables had been warmed through in a microwave. Everything out of a packet/tin, nothing was homemade. Such a shame. Wouldn't recommend if you are looking for somewhere special.

Stopped in for food on the way back from Battle. Arrived 20 mins before service began. A member of staff was quick to attend us and explain we were early. Main bar was quite full so allowed to sit in the restaurant ahead of opening. We had unwittingly arrived on Wacky Wednesday, which meant there was a free desert or starter with each main meal. Can highly recommend the Grillstones, that allows you to cook your choice of meat to your liking at the table. Portions sizes were large. Highly recommend. There is also a connected kerb 7kw EV charger in the town hall car park across the road, which we used to top up whilst we ate.

First time in here for food as I had heard good reviews. Took ages to find any staff, stood in the restaurant for 10 minutes before anyone appeared. Good was OK, plenty of it but didn't appear to be much made with locally sourced ingredients. Singleton Barn is a very accommodating and welcoming place to be, as well as accessible and disability-friendly. There is level access, double doors for wheelchairs and buggies, and a disabled toilet that is sizable enough to fit a wheelchair and assistance dog if needed. Disposable hand towels for autistic children etc in lieu of a hand dryer too. Sight-loss educated staff who pointed out where the card reader, cutlery and food items were without being made to feel othered etc. Kind, polite and helpful. The food quality is phenomenal, with generous portions for a hearty pub meal after a walk on a cold winter’s day. Photo attached to give a general impression of the interior. Calm ambiance, warming decor, family friendly atmosphere.

What a delightful gem in the heart of town! My partner and I stopped by on a whim today and were pleasantly surprised. The service was attentive, quick, and delivered with a smile. It was heartwarming to see the café acting as a welcoming hub for the older generation, with staff so familiar with their regulars that they knew their orders before they even sat down. This is exactly what a cafe should be! The portions were generous, and the value for money was outstanding. We’ll definitely be back!
