The Old Mill in Ashford

We came for dinner Saturday night and as usual it didn't disappoint great food which was lovely and hot great service and really nice atmosphere. The best chips in Ashford much better than Stubbs!!!!

Stopped off on our way home from Canterbury, food was absolutely delicious as was the service, really lovely cosy pub. Would recommend

We stopped for a Sunday night meal after disembarking from the ferry at Dover. The location is less than 10 minutes out of Ashford, so not much of a diversion before the long journey home. Our group of 8 had a range of vegetarian and meat dishes, and all were excellent. The food was served promptly despite the large size of the group. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the general ambience was excellent. We would definitely stop here again.

Stopped in recently for a midweek meal with my partner and dog. Very friendly team who even fussed Tia (the dog) and brought her a bowl of fresh water. She loves them! The food was fantastic!!! Atmosphere was wonderful and I left with a big smile on my face and a very full tummy. Thank you all so much for a lovely midweek date night. Can't wait to do it again!

Had a large booking for a surprise birthday FOH staff very friendly and efficient couldn't ask for more Food was very good piping hot and very decent portions and very quick despite being a large party will definitely be returning

Lovely place for a meal with the parents. The mother in law has mobility issues and the place was easily accessible for her. Staff were lovely and friendly and the food was gorgeous.

Booked table for Easter Monday. Table ready on arrival. They didn’t mind that my husband wanted a drink at the bar before being seated. 2 menus to choose from with lovely choices on both. We both chose the goats cheese soufflé to start. Highly recommend this was delicious. Main meals were burger and pork. I had the pork which was cooked to perfection. Hubby had the burger which he thoroughly enjoyed too chips also were really tasty with no greasiness. We also had dessert and both chose the churros. I highly recommend you try these (I should have ordered extra ice cream this was lovely). Really nice meals and lovely staff. Thank you for a lovely time.

Live music tonight, not sure if it was the first but should not be the last!!! Really good singer and acoustic guitar! Would definitely want so see him again.

|Delicious, well presented food served by friendly, helpful staff (my wife is Gluten Free and our serve checked with the chefs to make sure that her diet was not compromised). The portion sizes were more than ample and excellent value for money. Would certainly recommend.

We have just moved to Wye Ashford we booked a table thinking we would have Sunday Dinner The waitress took our drinks order which took ages to come we ordered 3 roast dinners and a meat pie we waited over an hour asking several times when our meals would arrive each time assured next in line when it finally arrived the potatoes were all burnt as was the Yorkshire Pudding the vegetables looked like they had been scraped from another plate ,we left without eating anything

The food was excellent and the service was great . A good evening was had by all.

Lovely place prior to the takeover, has improve since takeover slightly but not to the degree it was prior sadly. I think if you had not visited it prior then you might be less judgemental. A number of years since this last visit in 2024 since a refresh there has been significant improvement in food quality and service.

Once again a very good lunch and once again we could not resist the deserts! For the first time, at this location, I enjoyed a very generous and well prepared Sunday roast. The beef was tender and very tasty, personally I like mine a little pink in the middle but the portions was generous. Great selection of vegetables and roast potatoes crisp on the outside and lovely and soft inside. My partner enjoyed the calves liver which was thinly carved and perfectly cooked and presented. The children enjoyed their fish and chips followed by a selection of ice creams. My waffle with ice cream and banana.

Food was better than service we was a little late we did ring to apologise we'd be 10mins later which was fine was seated quickly ordered drinks straight away then took ages for our food order. A couple got there order taken that came in after us go to order food before we did. We had to ask if we could order, we ordered but just felt like waitress lacked interest wasn't very polite didn't make us feel comfortable to order another drink and didn't bother with pudding as just felt uncomfortable food was ok just wanted to get out quickly won't be hurrying back anytime soon.

Brilliant service and great food. After a poor experience in another restaurant recently this restored our faith in eating out. We both had fish - I went for the seabass which was just amazing. The staff were friendly and really worked hard to check everyone had what they needed. We will definitely be back

Disappointing food and service.

Oh my goodness what an amazing spot. Every time I go I am welcomed as if I was home. Whether I come with my other half or as a whole gathering nothing is a problem. I came and had the roast chicken in a gorgeous mushroom sauce and my children who can be picky finished every mouthful of their very well sized meals. Not only was the food fantastic but every member of staff I came across had a smile and nothing was too much. The staff were efficient and polite with our drinks being topped up at any time. Thank you so much Old Mill team will be back very soon

Really nice food staff were great although they were under staffed today which meant things were a little slow but once it arrived it was excellent would certainly recommend a visit.

More a question of why we decided not to dine here. Just up the road is Stubbs. similar in price but with the addition of a set lunch menu which does help with affordability. The Old Mill doesn't seem to offer this, hence, we didn't book. Are they missing out? Well I guess that's for them to decide but in times of stretched finances for many, I would have thought so. We've decided to book at Stubbs.

Had a lovely chicken roast plenty of everything, and friendly staff. All together a very pleasant time.

Food was not too bad however the service was pretty poor tbh. The place lacks good management skills to get more organisation with regards to service and food orders.

I came for Christmas Day lunch with friends. The occasion was very enjoyable with great waitresses. I had the traditional Christmas dish - all was cooked well as were the starters and dessert. All in all very good and hope to return sometime.

We had an excellent family meal at the Old Mill. Very friendly service, good atmosphere and top class food - one of their Chef's named Baz was particularly friendly and went out of his way to cater for my daughter who is gluten and diary free. We all had an excellent time and I highly recommend the pub (and their Chef Baz!).

Another amazing experience here, the food and drinks were delicious and the staff were so lovely!

Before the menu changed the Smokehouse burger was the best burger!

Came here with a female friend at lunchtime. My friend had sausage and mash which would not have been a big enough portion for a man but she said it was very good. I had the steak and ale pie which was very disappointing. I expected a homemade style one but it was just like a Pukka pie off the supermarket shelf. Small amount of steak and no taste of ale. The chips were delicious. Very crisp and not greasy. Veg was wet and limp sadly. I expected better from a restaurant like that.

Car park a mess, gravel slurry everywhere. Menu restrictive but food was good but smallish portions for price. Table service very good. Overall a very relaxing venue.

Haven't been to this pub for many years and it has really upped its game. Excellent food, beautifully presented and arrived quickly. Will definitely be returning!

Amazing, excelent waffles desert, lovely selection of mains

From entering to leaving it was all excellent. Fantastic waitresses (x3) all friendly and helpful. Lovely menu choices and our starters and mains were very delicious. Great service during meal with drinks and asking if all ok. Highly recommend.

First time trying the old mill. Had a lovely evening celebrating my anniversary with my partner! We had the nachos to share As a starter, when I say it was big enough to have as a main is an understatement! They were delicious! Then we have the pork belly and the duck on the specials, both were delicious! The staff were very friendly and nothing was a problem! When we arrived the women who grated us was very friendly. The waitresses customer service could not fault! I would highly recommend the old mill to all my friends and family! We will be back!

Once again another lovely evening at the old mill! I can not stress enough how lonely this restaurant is! Love the new menu choices and the decor! The waitress’s are always welcoming, very friendly and they always have a smile on their faces! The food is delicious and never have to wait long for it! Thank you again old mill and I will be back!

Had a great evening meal here on Monday. They were great with the kids and loved the burger! My wife enjoyed her pie also. Was our first visit but won’t be our last.

The Old Mill is a lovely example of a local Gastropub. We've been here many times for a special occasions, birthdays and anniversaries. The food is delicious and it has great atmosphere.

Really slow service, had to ask for drinks all the time. Although waitresses were friendly. Food took an hour to come. Apparently they burnt the kids pizza. Which was coming with out starters. We said we wanted our food literally 5 mins after our starter we shared. But around 45 mins later. So 1hr 45 to get our mains. The children’s fruit salad the banana slices were black!! Overall experience were hungry sad children and hungry parents! Not really what you want for a family meal out.

Employee who appeared to be the general manager was very good, unfortunately that’s where it ended. Rude waitress who then lied. At payment not only did she hinder the viewing of how much she input into the machine but then I attempted to pay on Revolut (which informs you if there’s an error your side with payment) having tapped it multiple times her machine came up with card reader error - she rolled her eyes and said are you sure it said that, considering how long it was on display she clearly wasn’t paying attention, after debating that and being accused it was my fault she begrudgingly went back to the till (I suggested she got another card machine), she returned and it worked instantly, upon asking her if it was a different machine she said no, what she failed to notice was the company have homemade serial numbers on the card machine which are easily readable and they weren’t the same. Food less than average - potato’s aren't great, ‘seasonal veg’ is at a minimum considering £20 meal. Most definitely don’t order the Camembert, you will be disappointed. Personally we won’t be returning and I suggest said waitress should attempt to find an industry that doesn’t involve contact with members of the public.

Beef was tough as old boots. Meals slow coming out. Veg 10 mins later. They really don’t know how to accommodate a large party ( about 14)

A group of ladies from my home country got together at the Old Mill. Quick service, good food (some options were not available that evening, which was a bit sad) and plenty of parking! All round, a thumbs up!

Stop off lunch here. Always drive past every week so thought to give it a try. Not bad at all. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Good selection of drinks, nice menu. Fish and chips was nice (big piece of fish), and steak and onion pie was brought in but not bad, fresh vegetables as well. Worth going back to. 👍

Friendly, helpful staff, a good choice on the menu, well presented and delicious food (I had the belly pork followed by sticky toffee pudding), good portion sizes and good value for money. What more could you want? I would certainly recommend and also that you book in advance (there were two parties being catered for the night we were there).

We like this place, but first time back with new menu, scotch egg came out undercooked and was told it was the bacon but it was cold so that did not wash. The rest of the adult food was superb, the kids menu and quality left a lot to be desired, No starters and the pizza clearly cheap grade super thick crust with extra cheese thrown on! The fruit salad was bland and was not fresh and the creamy like substance on the top was disgusting, will go back to make sure this was a one off, but don’t think the kids menu will be entertained by our 9 yo

Went for dinner with my wife and two other couples. We all really enjoyed our food, and spent about 3 hours there. Friendly staff, reasonable prices: definitely worth a visit.

Having been a firm favourite of this lovely restaurant unfortunately after 2 attempts since the refurbishment we will not be going again. The menu is very different and so pricey now. All the old favourites are gone.. bring back The Crocker!!! Atmosphere just not the same seems very corporate now. Alot of money for not alot of value. Sadly unless the menu changes and they bring back a menu that worked we won't be returning. Shame as was a favourite but have now lost our custom.

Food was lovely but the waitress wasn't very welcoming. The lady that sat us down was not too friendly and lacked the positive attitude you would ideally want. Maybe the lady was having a bad day and we all have bad days so it's probably a one off. Food is good though

Really enjoyed our visit to the Old Mill for Lunch. Lovely setting and nice premises! We sat outside, and my wife had the Dingley Dell pork & smoked bacon scotch egg, followed by Roasted rump of Spring lamb and then Lemon and white chocolate pavlova for dessert. I went for Vietnamese chicken wings as starter, followed by Chicken parmigiana, and finishing off with two scoops of blood orange sorbet. We also had bread and olives ‘for the table’. The menu was imaginative and extensively diverse (vegetarian, vegan, gluten and dairy free available on request). The Vietnamese chicken was exceptionally tasty, the lamb was succulent & tasty and the bread came with a very tasty lemon & chive butter - yum! Although we don’t drink alcohol, there was a comprehensive drinks menu. We went on a Thursday lunchtime and managed to get a table without booking, however given how popular the restaurant is, we’d recommend booking. The car park is large, but as covered with gravel, your car will get dusty. The staff were friendly, attentive and checked in with us regularly to se if everything was alright. The only slight negative, was that my chicken parmigiana was a little dry (but still very tasty, and complemented by the basil & tomato sauce). The meal was very good value, staff were excellent and we were happy to leave a gratuity. Recommended, and we will be back!

We've eaten at the old mill a few times over the last year. Never been disappointed with the food or service. It's really well decorated with a lovely rustic relaxed charm. The staff are friendly and helpful. Nice heated outside areas too

Popped in for lunch on the Bank holiday Monday, we ordered two mains ( steak pie & pork belly) two really good plates of food, even had room for dessert that was panna cotta and a sticky toffee pudding, service was quick polite and friendly

Took my partner here for a Sunday evening meal just before her birthday as a little treat. Booking table through their website was easy and quick. They also have an online menu so you can check to see what takes your fancy. Price wise I would say is mid market, its not Wetherspoons cheap, but its not Ritz expensive so nicely in the middle if you are looking for a decent meal out. On arriving to the restaurant, was glad to see that there is ample parking to the rear. Wasn't very busy when we arrived and the staff attended to us quickly and got us seated. The restaurant is well presented and in good order and we were made to feel welcome by the staff. I ordered the scallops and chorizo to start, duck leg for main and toffee pudding for desert, all of which was first rate. An absolutely delicious meal, scallops were cooked perfectly and the duck tasted amazing. All the food was presented beautifully and you can tell that the chef's take some pride in their work. My only very minor issue was the was data scraping they do with the free WiFi. You will need to either register your details with the restaurant, or sign in with twitter or facebook to access the Wifi, and being a country pub, there is next to no mobile data in the area. But other than that, a first rate meal and we will definitely be back. Thank you to the team for an enjoyable meal.

Staff, food and decor all really lovely. Will look forward to coming back. Only note personally is the pea ravioli was on the bland side but it was a vegan option, will try the burger next time. All of our plates were completely clean regardless!

Before it was sold this place was great. Since then, rubbish, won’t be going again. Menu is now down to a one sided sheet, very disappointing.

Absolutely dreadful lunch. Beef sandwiches were inedible, like trying to chew leather.. Replacement cheese sandwiches arrived in sliced white bread with grated cheese, like going back to the 1970s. Service slow and disinterested. Such a shame, used to be really pleasant, good food and service. Should have got a clue from the dried out, neglected planters at the front.

Really disappointing. Went for lunch, roast beef sandwich was inedible due to the toughness of the meat, unable to even cut it with a knife. Sent back and replaced with a cheese sandwich on what seemed to be happy shopper sliced white bread, have had nicer sandwiches in a Tesco meal deal. Not good at all and spent £41 for the privilege!

Went last night excellent service great food but the spinach was minute for an extra £4. The Summer Drinks are a tad expensive £6 for a mango cooler but the fish was excellent haddock with skin on. £72 inc drinks for 2 was top dollar but as a treat worth it

Great atmosphere and great food!

This was the first time since the many change u have visited sadly it was a little disappointing. 3 of us had roast beef it was a little on the chewy side, roast potatoes had an odd citrus kind of flavour to them, Swede was like baby food, red abbage far to sweet the only good thing was the green beans yorkies and gravy. Apparantly the pork was on the dry side. 2 of us had pavlova but it was more like a lemon mousse with 2 small meringues sitting on top. The other 2 enjoyed theirs. Overall service was pretty good just a shame about the food.

Great restaurant, but missing the variety of the old menu, new menu is a bit limited - glad we asked where the crispy brie had gone as it’s not on the new menu (but you can still order it)

Have not been here in a long time, noticed that there had been a re-vamp from previous reviews. The inside has changed slightly. Attentive staff and did not wait too long for food. My only disappointment was that the pork ribs is no longer on the menu, this was a favourite dish of mine along with banoffee pie which is also not on the new menu. Food was good but you can see it’s changed hands from the menu to the portions. Still a nice place to eat but in my opinion not as good as before.

Had Sunday lunch with my daughter and son in law beautiful old building, pity the beef was a bit tough but overall a good experience. We will try it again when we're in Ashford area

Absolutely no flexibility on times - we arrived at 3.55, 3 of us wanted a sandwich, sandwiches finish at 4pm so told we couldn't have one. This was despite there being a power cut (very intermittent) so cooking was also limited. Our recent visits have been disappointing because the food is very average and the menu is limited and expensive. In addition they now serve small portions; depending on your choice of food, you may need more than a main course to feel satisfied. Vegetables are a garnish not a substantial part of the meal which I find personally very annoying. Some of the serving staff are new and are lacking in customer service skills. We have been very regular customers since the place opened but, will definitely take a break from coming here.

Still good, but since being bought by brewery something's changed, will return. Returned (2023). Started to improve and has recently reverted to not so good. Prices have gone up and portions are much much smaller. Food tastes good, menu choice is fairly uninspiring.

Enjoyed a nice lunch with a friend, the pasta I ordered was fine. Staff were attentive and friendly. I was really surprised therefore to be charged an extra £1.50 for a tiny pot of parmesan cheese. Surely if you order pasta, this would be included?...

Great service as usual friendly and efficient. Rib eye steaks were perfectly cooked. A chef who understands medium rare! Good chips crispy on the outside and good flavour potato on the inside. Mushroom and tomatoes perfectly presented. Still a good choice of wines.

Food and service both good value and quality as always. Very comfortable, relaxing atmosphere and surroundings. Staff friendly and helpfull.
