The Old Mill in Ashford

I went here yesterday for my birthday and I have to say the staff, atmosphere and food was brilliant. We have been here a couple of times and it never disappoints, highly recommend to go if in the area

The food is Well worth waiting for so take that in to consideration when you are waiting for your food ..its not Fast food but better food : )

We visited with a large group of disabled friends. Staff were very welcoming and brilliant. The food was excellent and included some dishes you rarely see on pub menus. I had venison which was delicious. Everyone was very pleased and we are meeting up there again in March.

Went for an anniversary lunch. Was splendid.

Dog friendly. Great restaurant, generous portions cooked really well, and made exactly as ordered. Very attentive staff, didn't wait long to order and food came quickly and piping hot. Will be coming back and can recommend.

Excellent little find. Went for a walk in The Warren woods near by and stopped here for lunch. It’s dog friendly, food was great, sauce was full of flavour, kind of weird whole carrot thing on your plate, however the venison was cooked to perfection. Has a proper country pub vibe, I imagine in the summer it gets rammed.

We’ve been a few times now and it’s always really nice food, cocktails and atmosphere. Reasonably priced too. Went for my friends birthday last night and the staff were attentive and friendly.

Was an awful night in Christmas Eve. We went with friends, there was 4 of us. We met our friends there. Were given the menus. We ordered drinks and then when we started ordering food half the dishes in the menu weren't available. I expressed my disappointment, was told by waitress in condescending tone that it was Christmas Eve they were flat out and been very busy. I wanted to say last I looked they were a restaurant, plus no one told us half the dishes were not available. We ordered dishes from the little choice we had. Starters arrived, then we sat and waited and waited for over an hour for the main course. Waitress's gathered near our table chatting and we could clearly see them looking over at our table. I then asked one if the waitresses when our main course would be here as we were pretty hungry. She said she would check. Was told it's in the way, we then had to ask if we could order drinks as we had all pretty much drank all our drinks. We waited another 30 mins for the food and before it arrived we were told we would get a discount for the wait, which was appreciated but then a waitress came over to our table to say someone they all knew was put on life support so they are all upset. She was kind of direct in her time like we should be patient. We didn't say a thing as had no words. Honestly, we didn't need to know that. We just needed the service to be told what was going on and being actually taken care of. The food arrived was really tasteless, no seasoning. The chips were Brake Brothers frozen chips. The food wasn't special at all We are what we could paid and left. WON'T BE RETURNING for food no better than the Harvester, infact had better meals in there in the past. Overpriced for the food they serving they serving and the customer service really needs to be better! Avoid avoid avoid!

Came here again with my family and once again blown away by the service and food. I strongly recommend anyone who hasn’t been yet to try it out, you won’t be disappointed.

I recently enjoyed a Christmas menu meal with some friends, and it was a wonderful experience.I was happy with the delicious vegan options on the menu and my friends thoroughly enjoyed their non vegan options. The food was cooked very well. The waitresses were attentive, cheerful, and incredibly helpful, ensuring we all felt welcome and well taken care of even with my requests of extra gravy! Each course arrived quickly at the perfect time, with no rush but a lovely flow to the evening. We all had a fantastic time.

I’ve been meaning to visit The Old Mill for ages, and now I only wish I had gone sooner! This is such a lovely pub with so much going for it. The food was absolutely delicious, and the pricing was exceptional for the quality. The staff were incredibly friendly, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere, and the décor really adds to the charm. Visiting on a cold day, I was especially pleased to find the fire lit—it made the place feel so cozy I could have stayed all day. Practical touches like the large car park and a spacious outdoor area for the summer make it even better. Whether you’re looking for a cozy winter retreat or a summer spot to enjoy the sun, The Old Mill is worth a visit. I’ll definitely be going back!

Very nice English pub atmosphere well located near Canterbury. Very varied menu of dishes for traditional English cuisine. To recommend

One of my favourite places to eat in Ashford. Food is spectacular every time, would highly recommend the prawn, chorizo and crab linguine main and the crispy fried squid starter. Jess is incredibly attentive and provided us with such a great service all night. Even during busy service hours she was absolutely on the ball. Atmosphere is very cosy and a fab place to go with family and friends.

We visited for the first time in a few years and it has changed a lot since. The menu isn’t as varied as it used to be and we were stuck for choice. I had a mature cheddar baguette. It was mainly full of rocket, with hardly any grated cheese at all. The baguette was under cooked, so was soggy. For £8.50 I expected much better quality. Two other members of our family had haddock, which was undercooked and gave it a horrible consistency. So disappointing, as it use to be a really nice place to eat. Maybe it’s under new management. Won’t be going there again. Very expensive too for what you get.

In Ashford for 2 nights decided to eat here both nights, fabulous place to eat , will definitely use again.

The food, service and atmosphere was amazing. Large portions and very tasty. We were there for a Sunday roast. I've never left a review in the UK before, but felt I had to leave one this time. Well done to all the staff.

A welcoming warm and cosy setting. Excellent service and lovely food - we had the linguini - very tasty. My only grumble was the desert we had the gypsy tart that was on the specials board - it wasn't anything special, and unfortunately, it didn't live up to my expectations. Will be back as there were other options on the menu we wanted to try!

When here on Sunday with my family for my son's 18th birthday, 7 of us including the grand parents . Probably the worst roast dinner I have ever had. Food food was not edible and sent back and not eaten on the return of the second attempt at cooking the meal. Waited 90 minutes for our mains. I complained and they gave us three of the mains for free although they were not eaten and 25% off the other mains. I came here after reading the reviews and was recommended this place a while ago by a friend. It was such a shame for my son as it was for his 18th birthday. I was not worried about the money off they gave us I just wanted it to be an enjoyable experience for my son and the rest of my family. Unfortunately being his birthday we can't go back with this again. We will always have the memory of a really bad experience. Just wish I'd spoke to my friend again who recommended this place as they said it's really gone down hill and would never go there again.

Warm atmosphere, great service and friendly staff We had nachos and chorizo bites, then pie and ribs for mains. Food was lovely and a reasonable price :) Family friendly and dog friendly in the bar!🐾

Tasteless badly cooked Sunday lunch. Supposed to be a treat for the family but the food was absolutely horrible. Gravy yuk, beef tough. Potato rock hard and tasteless. Complete waste of money this place has gone downhill

Great local pub, very friendly atmosphere. We had the burger wich was nice.

Really noisy inside. Everyone dining was crammed into a small place. We went outside in the peace and quiet. Food was decent. Price competitive with other pubs. £18 main course £27 10 ounce steak. £6.80 glass white pino grigio. Food service despite being busy was quick. It's a good pub with decent fayre at reasonable prices and pleasant staff. What more can you ask for.

All in all, it was a pleasant experience. Food was nicer than expected and reasonably priced. Service was on point, although it was fairly quiet when we went.

Very nice location and atmosphere and great service from the friendly staff. I first tried the Old Mill when i moved in the area around 2017. The steak back then was brilliant comparing to now, sad.

Came here last Sunday with family 2 x roast dinners 2 x fish and chips food was very nice a bit to much for my mum but they did foil up her left overs so we could take them home . Lovely fish and chips although the chips are actually fries which I am not a fan of unless I'm having a burger . We were charged for a lemonade that we didn't recieve but this was rectified with an apology and promptly. Will definitely return

The food was very tasty and plentiful. We had the spare ribs. The service staff were very attentive and friendly. Upon request, we were allowed to stay overnight with our camper. So we could enjoy drinking another glass. I highly recommend overall

What happened.... The old menu was tired and unchanged for years, but quite good, now well it certainly is not the best in our opinion, so much so I chose a sandwich off the lunch menu for an evening main course that to be quite frank had very little in it two or three tiny bits of chicken and the same tiny bits of bacon. We haven't been for a while and it seems most of the staff have changed and nothing personal against them but there was an air of nobody actually wanting to be there, again not an issue with the old ones , they were generally happy , friendly and always talkative. I've ref many of the other reviews on here and either I'm really fussy , or we just caught a bad night, because nothing here is 5 star anymore, my review a few years back was. The venue as always is very nice. Won't be rushing back.

Lovely lunch drinks friendly staff

Our group tonight consisted of 8 of us on a school reunion. We hadn’t met up in a while. When you are in a group it’s very rare that you would criticise your meal in front of the rest of your group. You wouldn’t want embarrass anybody. 3 of use had Caesar Salad and what a disappointment it was. I will describe what my meal comprised off. Little gem lettuce leaves (approx 10) 1 anchovies 1 portion of chicken breast (approximately one third of a chicken breast 3 croutons Caesar dressing- had to ask for more as it was dry. Value for money it certainly was not

I am writing to express my positive customer experience with The OLD Mill Kent As an international Google reviewer, I travel the world to document my experiences at various establishments I want to share my humble opinion about the excellent service provided by Glenn Wilders, GM, and Jordan Upon seeing the beautiful building along the roadside, I, a first-time visitor from Malaysia, stopped by with my daughter for some food and drinks. The garden was clean and well-maintained, and we were warmly greeted by Glenn & Jordan. The drinks were tasty, and the chairs were comfortable, which was important for me due to my back issues. The atmosphere and decor exuded a sense of community spirit, making us want to stay longer. The bar was clean, and the toilets were smelling fresh. As a reviewer, it's easy to write negative comments when things go wrong, so it gives me great pleasure to say that this wasn't the case. The staff should be strongly praised and rewarded, as they are naturally happy and authentic individuals. Hats off from, Natasha x x

Lovely little place, fish fingers sandwich!! Who would have thought a childhood favourite could be reinvented into something so delicious. Staff were attentive and friendly, couldn't really ask for more.

Disappointing. The service was poor and very slow even though there was less than a handful of people and service hadn’t long begun. The food was mediocre, average quality and extremely overpriced. Will not be going there again.

Overall a very nice restaurant, I hate to say it but I feel since being taken over it's not quite as good as it used to be, the place & the staff are just as good as they has ever been but the revised menu has less on it & the food quality sometimes is just not quite as good as it used to be, we had years & years of faultless service & meals where as our most recent visits have left us a little less satisfied as we used to be, especially when you factor in the increased prices, I hate to sound like I'm moaning, I would still recommend the restaurant it is still one of the best restaurants in the area

What a fantastic pub and restaurant the Old Mill is! The staff are so friendly and we loved the pub/restaurant style. As for the food it exceeded our expectations. We had the beef and ale pie which was amazing. The sides were just as tasty - mash, red cabbage, gravy, chips and cauliflower. The puddings were also just as tasty! We will definitely be back!

First time I have visited this pub, from the outside it doesn't look anything special (not tatty). The pub inside is very nice, the food is very nice, staff nice and friendly.

The first time I've been here in a few years ,it was ok. The food was abit pricey and I wasn't a fan of the chips because they seem like they were cooked in a fryer? (tasted fatty) but were ok . Unfortunately the 2 puddings I wanted to try (my 1st and 2nd choice, not 2 puddings at once) they were out of ,and I'm not a fan of nuts , so I missed out on the brownie . But my friends had it and it looked lovely (if you like nuts), the tart ta tan also looked lovely but I had eaten too much to fit that in by that point. What I didn't realise was the nachos (specials menu) was a sharer ....but me being me , I ate it all to myself . The cocktails looked good too 👌 Plenty of parking, nice outside area and toilets were clean and nice

Lovely restaurant and good food

It's one of our favourite eateries just on the outskirts of Ashford. The food is excellent and the staff are helpful and friendly. There is ample fee parking on site. You would ideally need to book early especially on special occasions. The food is cooked fresh to serve so be prepared to maybe wait a little longer than usual during a busy service but I assure you it will be worth the wait.

We came for dinner Saturday night and as usual it didn't disappoint great food which was lovely and hot great service and really nice atmosphere. The best chips in Ashford much better than Stubbs!!!!

We stopped for a Sunday night meal after disembarking from the ferry at Dover. The location is less than 10 minutes out of Ashford, so not much of a diversion before the long journey home. Our group of 8 had a range of vegetarian and meat dishes, and all were excellent. The food was served promptly despite the large size of the group. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, and the general ambience was excellent. We would definitely stop here again.

Had a large booking for a surprise birthday FOH staff very friendly and efficient couldn't ask for more Food was very good piping hot and very decent portions and very quick despite being a large party will definitely be returning

Lovely place for a meal with the parents. The mother in law has mobility issues and the place was easily accessible for her. Staff were lovely and friendly and the food was gorgeous.

Stopped in recently for a midweek meal with my partner and dog. Very friendly team who even fussed Tia (the dog) and brought her a bowl of fresh water. She loves them! The food was fantastic!!! Atmosphere was wonderful and I left with a big smile on my face and a very full tummy. Thank you all so much for a lovely midweek date night. Can't wait to do it again!

Booked table for Easter Monday. Table ready on arrival. They didn’t mind that my husband wanted a drink at the bar before being seated. 2 menus to choose from with lovely choices on both. We both chose the goats cheese soufflé to start. Highly recommend this was delicious. Main meals were burger and pork. I had the pork which was cooked to perfection. Hubby had the burger which he thoroughly enjoyed too chips also were really tasty with no greasiness. We also had dessert and both chose the churros. I highly recommend you try these (I should have ordered extra ice cream this was lovely). Really nice meals and lovely staff. Thank you for a lovely time.

Live music tonight, not sure if it was the first but should not be the last!!! Really good singer and acoustic guitar! Would definitely want so see him again.

|Delicious, well presented food served by friendly, helpful staff (my wife is Gluten Free and our serve checked with the chefs to make sure that her diet was not compromised). The portion sizes were more than ample and excellent value for money. Would certainly recommend.

We have just moved to Wye Ashford we booked a table thinking we would have Sunday Dinner The waitress took our drinks order which took ages to come we ordered 3 roast dinners and a meat pie we waited over an hour asking several times when our meals would arrive each time assured next in line when it finally arrived the potatoes were all burnt as was the Yorkshire Pudding the vegetables looked like they had been scraped from another plate ,we left without eating anything

Lovely place prior to the takeover, has improve since takeover slightly but not to the degree it was prior sadly. I think if you had not visited it prior then you might be less judgemental. A number of years since this last visit in 2024 since a refresh there has been significant improvement in food quality and service.

Once again a very good lunch and once again we could not resist the deserts! For the first time, at this location, I enjoyed a very generous and well prepared Sunday roast. The beef was tender and very tasty, personally I like mine a little pink in the middle but the portions was generous. Great selection of vegetables and roast potatoes crisp on the outside and lovely and soft inside. My partner enjoyed the calves liver which was thinly carved and perfectly cooked and presented. The children enjoyed their fish and chips followed by a selection of ice creams. My waffle with ice cream and banana.

Food was better than service we was a little late we did ring to apologise we'd be 10mins later which was fine was seated quickly ordered drinks straight away then took ages for our food order. A couple got there order taken that came in after us go to order food before we did. We had to ask if we could order, we ordered but just felt like waitress lacked interest wasn't very polite didn't make us feel comfortable to order another drink and didn't bother with pudding as just felt uncomfortable food was ok just wanted to get out quickly won't be hurrying back anytime soon.

Brilliant service and great food. After a poor experience in another restaurant recently this restored our faith in eating out. We both had fish - I went for the seabass which was just amazing. The staff were friendly and really worked hard to check everyone had what they needed. We will definitely be back

Disappointing food and service.

Oh my goodness what an amazing spot. Every time I go I am welcomed as if I was home. Whether I come with my other half or as a whole gathering nothing is a problem. I came and had the roast chicken in a gorgeous mushroom sauce and my children who can be picky finished every mouthful of their very well sized meals. Not only was the food fantastic but every member of staff I came across had a smile and nothing was too much. The staff were efficient and polite with our drinks being topped up at any time. Thank you so much Old Mill team will be back very soon

Really nice food staff were great although they were under staffed today which meant things were a little slow but once it arrived it was excellent would certainly recommend a visit.

More a question of why we decided not to dine here. Just up the road is Stubbs. similar in price but with the addition of a set lunch menu which does help with affordability. The Old Mill doesn't seem to offer this, hence, we didn't book. Are they missing out? Well I guess that's for them to decide but in times of stretched finances for many, I would have thought so. We've decided to book at Stubbs.

Food was not too bad however the service was pretty poor tbh. The place lacks good management skills to get more organisation with regards to service and food orders.

I came for Christmas Day lunch with friends. The occasion was very enjoyable with great waitresses. I had the traditional Christmas dish - all was cooked well as were the starters and dessert. All in all very good and hope to return sometime.
