I reviewed this place a few years ago when it was under different ownership, and I raved about how good it was back then. Then it went really downhill for a long time, and then it shut down. About a year ago, new owners came in and took over, and I remade it my local around Feb of this year. I love this pub. It's got such a nice, friendly, warm vibe to it. The staff are just on point. I can go in on my own and be confident that I can have a conversation with the staff or one of the other locals. My dad lives about 30 miles away, but anytime he's in Hereford on a Sunday, he's angling for a Volly Roast. The food today was just so nice, I had beef, my kid had chicken, and everyone else had pork. It was all delicious. Really, really tasty. I then weirdly have Brie parcels off the starter menu for pudding, and they were lovely as well. There aren't enough "local" pubs around these days, it's all chain boozers charging £6 for a pint of middle shelf lager, but not The Volly. £109 for 5 Roasts, 3 puddings, one starter, 3 glasses of wine and about 8/9 pints. Cracking Value. The Volly is like a little bolthole, a home away from home, so to say and I really, really recommend it if you've never tried it.

Visiting Hereford for the day & wanted somewhere for Sunday lunch. Pub doesn't look much from the outside, but it is lovely inside & has a very nice outdoor area too. We had Sunday lunch. Beef was tender & very tasty, crisp roasties, good selection of veg & plenty of gravy. They are dog friendly & the staff were very welcoming. Good selection of drinks & craft beers. Highly recommended!

We had the best Sunday lunch here last week as a family. I could not fault the food - tasty and refined (this is NOT a carvery!) and the meat was cooked perfectly. They currently offer pork or beef and both are tender and cooked to perfection. The vegetables are very well thought-out. No boiled veg here! It is delicious - sticky red cabbage, garlic and rosemary roasties, mashed carrot and swede, honey-glazed carrots, cauliflower cheese...and the gravy! There is also a veggie option and a dessert menu. The service is quick and friendly. So good, that we're going back today! Noticed they do a food menu Weds to Sat too.

this once great pub has to decide what its going to be. we turned up this afternoon to watch the rugby and the place was cramed with diners. we was disapointed that no area had been set aside for those of us that want to have a pint. a real shame but i guess it reflects the industry.

Arrived for lunch as it was the only pub that still had "Sunday dinners". When seated we noticed 2 women heading in then out the same toilet placed outside with a terriable "sniffy" nose, possibly hayfever?? Quite unusual behaviour. Then we're served semi frozen dinners that were promptly taken back. Back street boozer with a back street mentality.

This is an amazing back street local. It was packed to the rafters when we visited and looking at other reviews, this seems to be the norm. We managed to squeeze on the end of a table and then soaked up the atmosphere. It was clearly the centre of this part of Hereford, everybody seemed to know each other and, I would imagine that they look out for each other too, just what a great local is about. We received friendly service but I bet that would be elevated if we visited regularly, we would then be part of the local banter. So, a locals pub that is happy to welcome strangers, not a difficult concept, but not many get it right. The Volunteer certainly does

Friendly locals pub. Stopped off on a walk around Hereford. Had Sunday lunch which had good reviews from others - but we were a little disappointed: roasties were overdone and dry, and the fresh veg was rather lacking and a bit tasteless. Oh. My. GOD. A backstreet pub has got no business being this good! It was literally on another level. Im gonna properly melt down over this place, so get ready. We went in, me and my wife knowing we wanted a roast, my 2 year old demanding sausages. Got in, sat down, got drinks, I asked if there was a children's menu, they said no, but what did I want? I said sausages they went to go and check if they had them...Turns out they didn't, but then they said we could have basically anything else "What would you like him to have?" Turns out he's about as refined as me and ended up with nuggets, chips and carrots. What can ya do? Me and my wife had Brie wedges to share as a start...bit gutted we didn't order one each, absolutely lush. Then the main? Without doubt the best Sunday dinner I've had in a pub in at least a decade. Enough meat to kill a man, serve yourself veg, great roasties, Yorkie a bit over, but I can live with that. Not the cheapest dinner in Hereford, but by GOD, do you get your moneys worth. See ya next Sunday.

The Volunteer is a proper back street local - a very rare thing these days. Staff are friendly and welcoming. The food is fairly traditional pub grub but all homemade and exceptionally good value. The beer choice is rather unimaginative, being Wye Valley HPA and Butty Bach, Greene King Abbot and Otter Bitter - in the past they had interesting guest ales - but is well kept and on the one occasion I had an off pint they were quick to change the barrel and replace it. There is also a skittle alley out the back - again an increasingly rare facility these days.

We booked a table and arrived promptly for our reservation time. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We were shown to our table, and our beverages delivered by staff wearing masks and adhering to the social distancing rules. Unfortunately because our lunch date was just before the pub had to lock down for a month, a few of the choices on the menu&beer taps were unavailable or selling out very quickly. We all chose something which appealed to us and it was served fairly quickly. A very enjoyable family lunch was had in this traditional pub, and the service was excellent. The staff told us as we were departing that they were continuing to cook Sunday roasts for people to order and collect and they would even deliver with a courier service to the vulnerable who were not able to get out. I think this is a great service showing support for the folk of the community.

Walk-in at 6.00 on a Saturday evening, as we happened to be in the area and lived the look of the menu. Nobody greeted us, but we asked the lady who appeared to be in charge whether they were serving food that evening. She rolled her eyes. The conversation then went as follows: Her: Have you booked? Us: no, I'm afraid we haven't. Her: Huh. (Rolls eyes again, goes over to the bookings list). It's very quiet, but I don't really want to do any more today. Us:... Her: I suppose I could do 7 o'clock... Us: Don't worry, bye! Her: Huh. No way were we going to give our business to somewhere with such a bad attitude. But it turned out well for us - we ended up at the Lal Bagh Bangladeshi restaurant down the road, and had possibly the best curry we've ever eaten!

First visit to The Railway Inn Dinmore. Friendly, welcoming and helpful staff. 1 adult had an allergy to a foodstuff, staff were able to advise which meals were suitable - majority of meals, but Chef would accommodate as meals were freshly prepared. Booking advisable. Wait a while for your meal as its freshly prepared but well worth the wait. Good presentation of food, hot, tasty good quality. Off the beaten track, but well worth a visit. Beautiful location and tasteful décor. Will certainly visit again.
