We live local to Carden Park hotel and have seen the improvements made over the last few years. One of them was introducing The Vines restaurant which we visited recently to celebrate an anniversary .It really is a top class restaurant in the Cheshire country side.It is an elegant room ,the tables are correctly laid with quality linen, plates and cutlery and the seating is very comfortable. The Maitre ' D ,Julio, is excellent and helpful and his team look after you very well.We ate from the a la carte menu and we both enjoyed each course, I had the Dover sole which was expertly filleted by Julio. It was a perfect evening and we will return.

At Vines, we were surprised by an excellent food and specially an excellent service. This days finding an amazing evening is not that easy as service is not easy to get along the night. Here at Garden Park in Vines we had Julian, as the head of the restaurant he was always looking after every detail and the result was an amazing fine dining experience!! We just simply recommend this hotel and it’s restaurant as a must to go in uk.

Firstly, I want to caveat this review as it could have been a ‘one off’ or there could have been something clearly not right with the staffing on the night that we went, which is a shame. But, this was booked as a birthday treat. We arrived and felt the first impression was great, the restaurant lovely and very attentive host. We ordered the taster menu. Our first course came before the drinks did. No problem tho. Throughout the dinner, we were offered the menu so we could see what was coming out when. Then then didn’t bring it, we were offered more bread said yes and then they didn’t bring it, and after course four - we then waited in between the courses anywhere from 20 to up to 40mins. We were there over three hours and whilst you enjoy the taster menu as an experience, we were sat just waiting for 1.5 hrs either with plates to be removed or waiting for next courses. The end of the meal really slowed down, and we wondered what was happening. We had our main which was Guinea fowl and delicious, brought dessert but we were sure there were two other courses offered on the menu - advertised as one being the pineapple sponge and cheese, and weren’t offered either of these. They asked us did we want any coffee or more drinks, and we said no thank you and the meal came to an abrupt ending. There was no petit fours as advertised and didn’t know if they came with the coffees, which didn’t know that if it was the case. At the end - the bill came with 12.5% service pre-added and I never say anything in restaurants but when they asked was everything alright, I actually said the service was really not okay and had in fact taken the shine off our special dinner. They very quickly did agree to kindly remove the service charge and bottle of wine from the bill, which we were grateful for. But, a mere £166 pound later and it really wasn’t worth this. We don’t ever mind paying for great food and great service, having done many taster menus and experiences. But the service on the night let it down. Food was delicious and flavoursome, but as a fine dining experience - this didn’t meet expectations nor what was advertised, which was a shame.

We stayed at Carden Park for 2 nights and dined at The Vines the first night to celebrate our anniversary. It was superb. We ordered the tasting menu and the prestige wine pairing. Very pricey but worth every penny, and it was our annual treat. And the price you pay for fine dining! Each course was delicious and our sommelier, Patryk, was fantastic bringing each wine to go with each course. He was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable about the wines. The rest of the staff were brilliant too. And it was just a really relaxed, luxurious dining experience. We'll be back!

Fabulous fine dining worthy of at least 1 and probably 2 Michelin stars but at a lot cheaper price. My wife and I ate there for my birthday choosing the tasting menu. I'm vegetarian and my wife isn't which was not a problem for the professional but friendly staff. Food was great especially the 1st course and the desserts. The pastry chef is clearly very talented with both the pre-dessert and the dessert and the petit fours outstanding. I'm not going to detail each course as that would spoil it for you. You should just go! We've eaten in 2 star restaurants paying double the price so think that Vines is a great bargain.

Hubby and I ate in Vines, after arriving at Carden Park for a business Conference. It was a midweek night and now exactly busy. We should have taken note of old colleges who were leaving the Vines, as we arrived..One pulled a face the other said, you'll be here all night! Oh how I wish we'd listened. They were quick enough to seat us, to be fair, but thereafter, it was almost 35 minutes until they took our order. Not even a drink in that time. The guy at the table next to us (three was about a foot of a gap, so it felt like we were with him) even struck up a conversation about how long it had taken him to be served. No drink, no bread, no apology, just a 'what can we get you' as she barely lifted her eyes up off her screen. All that though, did not come close to preparing us for the devastation that was to follow with our starters. I'd ordered the nibbles portion of the pork and tarragon fritter, which sounded interesting and hubby went for the whitebait. Both arrived overcooked. Visibly overcooked. His was certainly 'crispy' and at least edible, and due to the fact we'd had a five hour journey to get there - he gamely battled his way though, even if it nearly cost him a tooth! I wasn't quite so lucky. The 'fritters' in reality were five square lumps of dark brown charcoal, not even my knife could penetrate. Hubby managed to break in to one, but it wasn't worth the effort. They were completely and utterly inedible. Both we and the lovely Irish man at the table next to us laughed at how well we could defend ourselves if the Welsh ever invaded Chester again! It really wasn't funny though, when the waitress asked us if everything was OK, and I said no, not really, we all had to explain 'burnt' (to hell!) in the case of our guest, who had joined in the fun, at least three times before she got it. How she couldn't see that from a glance at the plate, will stay with me a lot longer than it should. To be fair, she did have the decency to look embarrassed, once she did look at my plate, and said, I'll have them taken off the bill. I should hope so. They were completely untouched by human mouth. Our mains were marginally better. On the advice of our new friend, hubby went for the lamb shank - slow cooked and it fell off the bone. He declared it 'not bad' but nothing to write home about. He'd ordered the spring greens alongside, which were fresh and well-cooked. My fish and chips, or should I say batter and chips, smacked of being bought in already battered, because surely no restaurant charging £14 for fish and chips would have the serve an almost perfectly trangular portion of fresh fish the size of this one to any guest they'd hope to have return. We weren't going to order puddings, but in all honesty, I was still hungry, having made the rash call to share my chips with my other half, but as he put it - it's not like you had fish to eat them with! So we ordered a cheese board between us, which was the best thing I ate all night! Don't get too excited though, as this says more about the rest of the food than the cheese board which came with wilted celery, onion marmalade and bright orange sulpherised apricots, which took up more room than the cheese. An utter rip off at £15 for 5 small pieces of cheese. To be fair, they did remove the charge for the inedible fritters from the bill, but at a hefty £75 for what we ate, including only 2 diet Pepsi, it was absolutely scandalous. The experience was honestly the worst we've even had in decades of staying at four and five star hotels around Europe. Carden Park.... MUST. Try. Harder. Your guests deserve SO much better than this garbage!

Totalmente repugnante. We have frequented "The Vines " whilst staying at Carden Park , this is convenient with have the Grand Children , when staying for 3 / 4 days the menu is very restricted, due to the fact it never changes . On previous visits they had specials which changed frequently giving you more choice , but it would appear that they have been discontinued. The quality of the food has also deteriorated from previously , with this in mind I would also say that is slightly on the expensive side, this is such a shame because it means that you have either got to eat before returning to the hotel at night or leave the hotel and find another eating establishment, which means that you cannot enjoy a drink.

The booking system suggested it was going to be crazy busy and-so we had to book a table 1 hour after we wanted to, but we arrived half-an-hour early and it was half-empty?!There was a good atmosphere and a good mix of people. The service was fast, friendly and efficient. The food arrived within a reasonable time frame and the Steak Burger was a triumph. The sticky toffee pudding dessert was £6.50 and was a 'fair' size piece of cake but whoever decided that the accompanying portion of ice cream was ample was sadly mistaken, a curled teaspoon's-worth was a poor effort! Generally tasty, but not worth the money, in my opinion.

The dining experience was much better than Redmonds and we were actually in the restaurant for just over 2 hours, we didn't feel rushed at all.We had an allowance for our all inclusive package and if we went over we just paid at the end which we thought was a much better option than being just allowed to pick form a restricted menu like at RedmondsThe starter, main and desserts were all very good and we all agreed we probably should have eaten in The Vines every night rather than Redmonds. The quality of the food was good and very well presented.

To cut a long story short, the food was ok, but expensive for what it was. When my wife was with our little boy in the bathroom, a waitress came over and asked: "Are you finished?" Although I very much dislike the trend of clearing individual plates from a table, as I had just finished my meal, I replied: "Yes." My wife and son clearly hadn't finished, and had their knives and forks placed in the universal 'not finished' position. I wasn't really concentrating, and before I knew it, my wife's plate had been cleared, with quite a bit of the pork left on it. When we complained, another waitress explained that they don't care in what position the knives and forks are - that's not their policy - and that I had indicated that everyone on the table had finished their meal, which I hadn't. She wasn't even present when the incident took place, so had no way of knowing what had been said. We didn't even get an apology, and WE were made out as the bad guys. After some more pushing, we finally got a discount... 20% off my wife's meal, which came to about £3.30. The attitude of the staff was pretty poor throughout - not the way paying customers should be treated.

Was staying at the hotel and popped in for dinner. We don't usually go to hotel restaurants, we like to find local pubs, but it was late and the menu looked good. Glad we did stay for dinner though, had the bread to start, it was sun-dried tomato, made on site, was delicious!! Fish and chips main was good, as was the shepherds pie. Really wanted dessert but was too full. Overall was a nice meal which was reasonably priced... starters, mains and drinks for just over £40.

Having failed to learn from past disappointing experiences, and following a break of more than 12 months, we once more decided to give 'The Vines' a chance. What a mistake! We are not regular complainers or particularly demanding or fussy diners, but every time we have dined here we are struck by the incredibly slow service from staff who fail to acknowledge the presence of paying customers. Food takes an eternity to arrive. We only ordered main courses and coffee afterwards, and it took over two hours from start to finish. Goodness knows how long it would have taken if we had had a starter and a pudding as well!! The food is adequate (although the batter on the 'posh fish and chips' could have benefited from the use of a chainsaw) but it is the service that always lets the place down. The staff just don't seem to be aware of the customers, we eventually had to go in search of someone to take our order for coffee, and then the waitress could not remember what we had ordered (there were only two of us) and had to come back to ask again. Overall the hotel is excellent but The Vines lets it down massively, I am sure we are not the only people who have had this sort of experience.

Family of 4 people staying at the Carden Park Hotel decided to eat at the Vines. First thing to say is that the staff are attentive and do everything to make your meal enjoyable. The food was of really good quality we all ordered differently and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meal. The only thing that stops me giving it top marks is the pricing - over £20 for a sirloin steak!!! The wine is also on the expensive side so be prepared to pay. Apart from that excellent food and top notch service - well done

We visited Carden Park for an early evening meal . We wanted a quick meal without fuss. The surroundings were good and as you would expect from a brassiere within a four star Hotel . The service was poor and it took some while for our food to arrive , the soup of the day was OK but not hot . The mains when they finally arrived were ok but nothing special and really lacked presentation and taste, the best part of the meal was the dessert ( warm pear and almond tart). As said the service was inattentive the waiters and waitresses spent more time speaking to each other rather than looking after the dinners. I would have difficulty in recommending this to others

My husband and I recently stayed at this lovely hotel and dining at this restaurant was the only (extremely) negative aspect of our break. Not only is the service so slow that we ended up on various occasions having to approach the waiters ourselves for some service, the pricing at the restaurant is utterly ridiculous and bears no correlation to the quality of the food. Supposedly 'posh' fish and chips at £17 one would expect to be tastier and better quality than that which one can routinely offer in cheaper restaurants. This was not. We also were ignored for 15 minutes after sitting down and had to walk over to ask for a menu at lunchtime. It also took THIRTY FIVE MINUTES for a sandwich and soup to be brought to our table, and when it was, the fries that accompanied the meal were cold and I had already become late for a spa appointment and had to leave my husband so I could rush to make it on time. Be that as it may, not ONCE did any of the staff acknowledge how long they kept us waiting or offer even a lukewarm apology. For anyone choosing to stay at this hotel, I would urge you not to opt for convenience and dine here, despite it being inconvenient to venture out of the hotel grounds. This place is a huge disappointment and the staff could stand to be refreshed in their customer service training.

Whilst staying at the beautiful carden park hotel we expected the restaurant to be just as impressive. However, the service was extremely poor. Our waitress was working at snail pace which seemed ridiculous as there was hardly anybody in the restaurant. We almost had to get up from our seats and go find one of the waitresses to ask for more drinks as they only asked once at the beginning of the meal. I had the fish and chips which were just vile. To say they cost seventeen pound and were supposed to be battered salmon, haddock and scallops, I barely got any fish and all crispy batter (photo uploaded). My mum also did not enjoy her meal as she ordered gammon which was completely dry and so salty she could barely eat it. Also, the beer we ordered was flat and warm which to say cost nearly five pounds a pint was appalling. We did not make the mistake of returning here on our second night and visited a nearby pub called the cheshire cat and it was amazing! And half the price (I have reviewed this also).

We went to Carden Park for the Sunday Lunch buffet, restaurant is very nice & atmosphere was lovely. Starters are chosen from the menu as are desserts, main course is a carvery style where you go and get served by a chef and a waitress. Food is very good but I do think the service could be improved, there were a lot of staff who didn't really do much other than stand behind their stations. The lady who served the vegetables on the carvery was fantastic and came over to the table to chat & was very nice. She also was the only person we could get the attention of as we wanted to order wine with our main, (she was behind the carvery and we were on the 2nd tiered level tables). She gladly took our wine order but this clearly isn't her job as she didn't know the size of wine glasses or if our choice was red or white, I am not blaming her for this but one of the other many waitresses should have been more vigilant of the tables rather than chatting. I also think the chef could have been a little friendlier/personable on the carvery, if this is part of the carvery experience to have a chef in whites carving your meat then a smile shouldn't be too much to ask. Dessert was lovely but I was too full by then & couldn't finish it. We moved through to the bar after lunch which had a lovely, relaxed feeling. Food & atmosphere 10/10, service 5/10 but will return.

A colleague and I decided, while working in Carden Park Hotel, to dine early evening in the relatively newly refurbished Vines Restaurant. We were shown to a table of our choice by one of the very helpful and charming waiters and waitresses. Our drinks and meal orders were taken. I chose the pork sausage and mashed potato and my fellow diner ordered a medium rare burger with salad and chips. The drinks arrived exactly as requested. On not very close examination of our cutlery, three of the four pieces had dried food particles and grease smears on them. They were replaced immediately. The burger was well done; the sausages, however, were medium rare and very salty. The 'salad' accompanying the burger consisted of three slivers of grated carrot, a shred of lettuce and a few strands of cress.Did we say anything? No as we were rather pressed for time and hungry.Judging from the other reviews of the Vines made nearer the the time of its opening (April '12, I believe), things appear to have slipped a little during the succeeding months.I shall be using a fish and chip shop in one of the local villages next time.

Stayed the night in Carden Park and decided to eat in The Vines restaurant as this menu sounded very tasty! We were greeted by a young waiter and were given a choice of where to sit which i though was a nice touch. Offered drinks upon seating and given our menus, specials and soup of the day choice. The drinks were bought to the table promptly and our order taken the same time. Starters came out approximately 15 minutes after ordering which is perfect and was beautifully cooked, I had the pea soup with a ham hock tortellini which tasted amazing. The only criticism would be the soup was a little bit too cool, bt that's probablly just my personal preference. My partner had the whitebait which he boasted were very nice aswel. The mains came out around 5 minutes after our starters were cleared and inbetween one of the waitresses kindly topped up our wine glasses and asked if we'd had a nice day and a quick chat. It's nice to go somewhere were the staff are so friendly and helpful and make you feel welcomed. The mains were incredible, i had sausage and mash with onion rings in a red wine jus, and my partner the chicken. The food was just so tasty and portioned perfectly, I ate every single bit on my plate. As always due to having a very sweet tooth, I ordered a dessert afterwards and again was satisfied with the quality of the dessert. I had banoffee pie which was to die for with a ferrero roche icecream and my partner the whitechocolate and strawberry cheesecake. Service and food throughout the evening was lovely and I can't really fault anything.

I've been a regular at Garden Social since it opened three years ago. From day one it has been a friendly, community space serving the best coffee in Chester, delicious brunch/lunch and cake options. The owners and the whole team are just awesome, and they play great tunes. Garden Social is kid friendly, dog friendly, solo folk friendly, LGBT+ friendly, everyone friendly, and also supports local artists, makers, musicians and comedians, in their small but impactful and well curated programme of home grown events.
