The View Bar And Bistro in Southampton

Well.......no menus on table, one person behind the bar who looked 14.....had to ask if serving food, had to ask for menu....given an A4 piece of paper......so decided to lea e.....

Private party, no lighting at ramped entrance at rear entrance, handrail rocking back and forth on the ramp. Whole area totally pitch black at night. No disabled facilities at all. Food was very poor, not even any tongs supplied for chips. However the staff were very good. The place needs a total overhaul, although it may be listed building ,health and safety shouldn't effect this. Had to leave early due to lack of disabled facilities. Won't be back , accident waiting to happen at night, terrifyingly dark carparks.

Have had the Sunday carvery here a few times now,sadly the place is more than a bit tatty,food would be greatly improved if it was hot. The only thing hot on the plate is usually the roast potatoes ,the meat is cooked ok but again is lukewarm at best and to top the lot the food is dished up on stone cold plates (schoolboy error !! ) .Nice location but could be so much better.

When for afternoon tea and sandwiches. No tea or coffee for over an hour. Poor bar maid wasn't told . Never again.

Unexpectedly arrived at this pub after having a wonderful time at the dog show. Myself and friends saw this pub on the hill and thought we would give it a quick try (we live locally but had no idea it was even there). As we got closer - it has a great outdoor garden that over looks the hill with some pretty views, we quickly saw that it looked a little worse for wear. The signage looked really old fashioned and the garden had lots of tables with rubbish, crockery and glasses everywhere. Inside the establishment we could hear what we thought was karaoke - until we heard someone say the singers were practicing their set…. The sound system is amazing so loud and clear - shame about the vocals, but considering we were outside it was incredibly loud, let alone how loud it was when we went into the pub. We decided to have a drink - well, I said no but everyone else was up for it so I reluctantly agreed. We took a seat at some benches and my friends went to the bar, we ordered a coke and chips. My friends commented on how sticky the bar was as they walked back with their cokes. They were given a little buzzer that will flash when the food is ready. This I thought was great and very modern and didn’t quite match up to the rest of the environment. When the chips were done the portion size was good but they were well over cooked and half was left as no one liked them. The singing act dominated the entire visit, and it contributed to us wanting to leave but before I left I had to inspect the toilets for my own curiosity, they were very dark in colour, old school with dusty fake flowers, thought they had splashed out on pretty tiles until I looked the other side of the toilet and saw it was vinyl and someone has scratched ‘f*** you’ into it…. The main bar area had lots of tables and chairs and some more comfortable seating that was dominated by a big group. The ‘decoration’ inside and out was large panels of trellis with fake flowers (old fake flowers) - it just looked really faded and unloved. I don’t think we will be returning unless something changes in there.. a real shame as the area to walk dogs around it makes it a perfect location for dog walkers/ fitness fanatics as the outdoor fitness centre is opposite.

Gave this place a try today and won’t be returning. Waited 40 mins for our meal. It arrived and my sons burger was burnt. I had ordered what was described on the menu as thick cut ham egg and chips. I have added a picture to show the thick cut ham. Save your money.. plenty of lovely places to eat near buy where you’ll actually receive what you order.

This is our local pub and we used to visit more often. Unfortunately, it seems to have gone downhill in recent years. I’m not sure whether this started before the pandemic or only since then, but these days we generally prefer to travel further to go elsewhere. The last two times we’ve visited were Friday/Saturday nights. Both times I thought it might be busy but in fact we had the main bar area almost to ourselves (although there seemed to be things going on in the private function room). To be honest, I’m usually glad of that, preferring a quiet drink to a packed pub. However, while there weren’t many people, there was loud music blaring both times. We haven’t eaten here for a while. Going by past experience, the food was fine but a little overpriced for what it was and vegetarians/vegans seem like an afterthought. The menu has some offerings, but doesn’t clearly label anything’s suitability. I understand from social media posts that there are actually more choices available (e.g. veggie sausages) that aren’t indicated on the menu. Whether the ‘buttery mash’ is suitable for vegans or not I can’t be sure, but I’m not filled with confidence. I’d like to give an updated verdict but I’m afraid I’m not able to. We intended to eat there last night, in front of the late football match (7:45pm). However, despite there being menus out on the bar and tables, my partner was told that the kitchen was closed. Rather annoying given that we’d already ordered drinks by then. Perhaps I could have checked first, but it hadn’t occurred to me that the kitchen would be closed already, especially given the menus being out. We gave up at halftime and went home, picking up some food on the way. I suspect it will be a while longer before we bother going back.

I popped in here, id heard it was looking good lately. BUT Dogs not allowed inside, it was to cold to sit ourside and eat, and dogs are not allowed inside and they serve food in plastic containers outside not a good look. Place needs a good tidy, fag butts and dog poop squashed in pub garden, it looks rough and in dire need of some tlc. Didnt eat there so cant comment on food.

So I came here with my gf today and damn it was amazing good amazing service 🙌 I never put a review really but this place is a must go too I'm a chef myself so I can appreciate the chefs hardwork so well done too the chef Chris I will be recommending this place too people can't praise it enough

I would like to thank all the bar staff and catering Staff and all those behind the scenes for a wonderful well organised day ..the roast is the best my family and 😋 i have tasted.everthing is always well organised and always clean despite of the amount of people there ..big thanx to Tom and everyone who works there ..its a pleasure to go any day or evening..well done the view

First time I had a Carvary at The View, and I couldn’t recommend it enough! If you like a Sunday Roast, I couldn’t recommend it enough! Staff were amazing and happy to help at all times! They now have a regular customer for sure! 😊

Went here as herd good things about the roast dinners. And boy was they right. Food was excellent as well as the service

The roast dinner is absolutely delicious - rosemary roast potatoes,3 veg, 3 meats to choose from! The restaurant and outside area could do with a revamp but the food is amazing 👏

Some places need a few grand for a face lift or improvements. This place needs a few hundred grand. Looks like not been any form of renovations or maintenance since the 1970s. Table dirty rubbish everywhere. Just run down and dirty. Would maybe fit a horror film or something or a crime drama scene. The toiletd are disgusting. Even anyone has seen trainspotting and the worst toilet in scotland. These look pretty much similar. If you want run down and dirty and weird clientele then this is the place.

Visited today first time since opening and was not a good experience. First the positive the food was excellent and very good value. But the negatives far outweighed the positive. Outside area was scruffy and dirty with loads of litter not been cleared up from God knows when. No test and trace checking neither manually or via the app. All service was through the hatch so not table service. As they have a marquee and enclosed seating area surely this was breaking covid regulations. Also no toilet facilities. Had to walk round to the back to use sports centre toilets which were awful. Need to improve dramatically. Also very lary loud people swearing etc when there were families there. Won't be coming back any time soon until improves.

Came here in April 2021 with friends soon after lockdown restrictions were eased. One of my friends clearly asked if they had Amstel and the Lady said yes they did, so we ordered 3 pints. When we went to our table and tasted it, it didn’t taste anything like a lager. What I found out was that instead of Amstel, we were given a cider (most likely Aspall). I understand that the lady who served us may have heard wrong slightly but next time staff need to be a bit more clearer about these things as the consequences could’ve been worse. Otherwise a good place to go to especially in the warmer weather seasons.

After a really disappointing experience a couple of months ago, management invited us back to see if they could demonstrate their usual high standards to us.We were initially hesitant to return, and went today with low expectations. Really pleased that we gave The View a second chance, as our meal today was really good. Although the restaurant was quiet, service was second to none and very attentive.The roast meat was plentiful and succulent. I loved that the condiments were served in festive glass jars. The broccoli was a bit overcooked, but not to the point that it was inedible. Cabbage was cooked well, as was the carrot and suede mash. Veg wasn't seasoned, but suspect this may be because some customers prefer it that way, and it wasn't a problem for us to add a sprinkling of salt. The gravy was a good consistency and flavoursome.All in all, a hearty, home cooked roast (albeit a bit 'rustic') which we both thoroughly enjoyed - We will definitely return.

Came on a wet and windy Saturday morning for breakfast and it didn't disappoint. The portion size was very generous, the quality of the bacon was amazing. All in all, well worth the visit for both quality and price. Will definitely be back soon to try the pancakes.

Paramos aquí para almorzar después de haber dado un paseo por el Polideportivo. Era un día de semana y muy tranquilo, lo cual nos complació. Ninguno de nosotros tenía un teléfono inteligente para dar detalles de seguimiento y rastreo, pero a diferencia de algunos pubs, eso no fue un problema. Estaban felices de tomar los detalles a la antigua usanza con lápiz y papel. El servicio fue amable, la comida llegó con prontitud y era buena. Mi única sugerencia para mejorar es servir las hamburguesas en un plato más grande. ¡Cuando corté los trozos de hamburguesa iban por toda la mesa! Definitivamente volvería a ir, pero habiendo visto algunas de las críticas aquí, me quedaría con tiempos tranquilos.

Hemos estado antes justo después del cierre y tuvimos una buena comida con un buen servicio, si hubiera dejado una reseña, habría sido de 3 o 4 estrellas. Lamentablemente, nuestra visita más reciente solo se puede clasificar como mala.Queríamos volver para probar los hermosos asados (en Facebook). Envié un mensaje el día anterior para pedir una mesa para 2 adultos y 2 niños y me preguntaron si queríamos ver el fútbol también. Nosotros no lo hicimos, así que dijeron que podían ponernos en el salón de actos. Perfecto.Llegamos a tiempo para recibir un saludo bastante desagradable, el hombre pudo ver que estábamos tratando de sacar a nuestros hijos adentro de la lluvia, pero no nos dejó hasta que escaneamos adentro. Feliz, pero al menos déjame dejar al niño para poder de hecho, primero saque mi teléfono de mi bolso. Luego señaló la mesa justo al lado de la puerta que dijo que era nuestra, ya que habían tenido una cancelación. Tomó nuestro pedido de bebidas y luego dijo que volvería con menús. (que no hizo)Como el fútbol estaba encendido, era bastante ruidoso en el área del bar y no estábamos contentos sentados justo al lado de la puerta principal. Cuando llegaron nuestras bebidas, preguntamos si podíamos pasar al salón de actos y el hombre fue a mirar. Luego nos hizo un gesto desde la puerta para que pasáramos, pero no se ofreció a ayudarnos a movernos, teniendo en cuenta que teníamos un bebé en un cochecito, un niño pequeño ahora sentado en su silla alta, abrigos, bolsas y bebidas. Nos ofreció una mesa para dos que estaba al lado de un pilar con un par de damas sentadas al otro lado. Cuando me negué a sentarme allí, ya que claramente no estaba a 2 metros de la mesa ocupada por las mujeres, señaló otra y dijo 'bueno, siéntese allí entonces'Luego nos preguntaron si estábamos listos para ordenar. Dijimos que no, que todavía no habíamos tenido menú. Nos trajeron algunos y el hombre se disculpó y dijo que estaban teniendo una mala mañana. Cuando finalmente hicimos el pedido, tuvimos que preguntar qué asados estaban disponibles, ya que no nos habían dicho.Cuando llegó la comida, estaba bien, no era el mejor asado que hemos tenido y ciertamente no tan bonito como las fotos que publican en Facebook. El esposo dijo que su carne estaba seca y que ambos necesitaban más salsa, pero nunca tuvimos un cheque para pedir más. El niño tenía palitos de pescado y patatas fritas que se veían y sabían como si hubieran pasado días en la freidora.Estábamos listos para irnos y lo único que hicieron rápidamente fue tomar nuestro dinero.Era obvio que estaban teniendo un mal día, pero lamentablemente no volveremos para ver si fue único.

Empecemos por lo positivo (siempre me gusta tener una visión equilibrada). . . . - el tamaño de la porción fue genial - todas las verduras estaban frescas - grandes rebanadas de carneAhora las razones por las que es muy poco probable que regresemos o recomiende a otros. . . . - a pesar de recibir la confirmación de la reserva de mi mesa a través de Messenger una semana antes, nuestra reserva no se había registrado, por lo que nos llevaron a la 'Sala de actos' - Esperamos más de 10 minutos para que nos tomaran nuestro pedido, y solo porque el hombre de la mesa de al lado gritó "disculpe" cuando pasó un camarero, de lo contrario, sin duda habría sido más largo - mi vaso de agua llegó con una marca de lápiz labial visible, así que tuve que pedir un vaso limpio - esperamos 45 minutos a que llegaran las comidas - la comida estaba tibia, pero optamos por no quejarnos porque ya le habíamos dicho al camarero la mala experiencia que estábamos teniendo - las papas 'asadas' tenían una textura muy extraña, casi como si hubieran sido fritas para que queden crujientes antes de asarlas (aunque el camarero lo negó cuando cuestioné el método de cocción) - a pesar de que se nos ofreció una ronda de bebidas de cortesía (que en realidad equivalía a 1 lager ya que otros comensales bebían agua del grifo), la bebida se agregó a nuestra factura, eliminando por completo el sentimiento del gesto - la decoración de la sala de actos parecía muy cansada - Me doy cuenta de que los establecimientos no pueden elegir a su cliente, pero nuestra pésima experiencia fue coronada por una familia de 5 en la mesa de al lado que no pudo mantener sus voces por debajo de los 150 decibeles.Tenía muchas ganas de comer en el View hoy, después de haber leído excelentes críticas sobre sus asados. Nos detuvimos para tomar un bocado rápido y no nos decepcionó. Porciones grandes, cuidadosamente presentadas en una caja, esperamos un poco pero esto estuvo bien ya que había bastante comida ordenada y valió la pena.Comida fácil y sencilla bien hecha sin ensuciar, como debe ser. :)

Habiendo visitado antes, tenía ganas de volver pero estaba muy decepcionado. Habían hecho esfuerzos debido a covid 19 pero aparte de eso. . el hombre que nos servía estaba gruñón e inútil, no había café, había basura por todas partes; nuestro paraguas estaba roto. Los baños exteriores estaban cerrados con llave sin señalización sobre alternativas. El menú del quiosco apenas se veía. El entorno general está cansado. Para ser justos, la comida era bastante buena y la disfrutamos más comiéndola en otro lugar del parque.

Han reabierto con un nuevo menú especial para llevar que incluye hamburguesas Gormet y deliciosas patatas fritas gruesas y fritas. Tuve una hamburguesa picante vegetariana y mi esposa comió una hamburguesa de queso con tocino y ternera, estábamos muy impresionados y mucho mejor que la última vez que comimos aquí. También tienen cerveza para llevar (latas) y refrescos. Las hamburguesas venían con una gran cantidad de ensalada fresca y todos los adornos y las patatas fritas eran excelentes ya un precio realmente bueno. Recomiendo pasar por aquí para llevar.Volvimos a por un helado para la esposa y un sorbete para mí, encantador.

Muy mala comida de buffet, la lechuga grasosa no estaba fresca, toda marchita como si hubiera estado fuera durante horas. El barman parecía que nunca hubiera querido estar en el trabajo. no es agradable, definitivamente no volveré a comer allí de nuevo. si pudiera dar menos, definitivamente el lugar olería como si fuera una buena limpieza, ya que todo lo que podía oler era húmedo

A sort of 1930s garden shed behind the bowling Green of Southampton's sports centre. It is rather sparse and austere, and has the feel of a working man's social club. On my visit there were two groups of tables pushed together suitable for two groups of twelve to sit and eat, which was reserved. The rest of the room had low tables, most of which were grouped in the centre for a party of cyclists. Nobody is eating. There's a nice hubbub of conversation, but also loud music from one corner and sports TV from the opposite corner. Children are allowed, which is nice, and the kids are running around freely. One cask, Doom Bar, served in indifferent condition. Some biscuits and cake are on sale on the counter. It's an OK place. If you're here for the sports centre then this will do, and I should imagine it's OK for locals as well, but it does feel more bar than pub, and is not really a place worth seeking out, other than perhaps as a useful place to organise a low cost group meeting with food.

Usamos el salón de actos para nuestra fiesta. El personal no podría haber sido más útil. La comida era genial y más que suficiente. En el período previo, siempre estaban disponibles para todas mis preguntas y, durante la noche, se limpiaban los anteojos, etc. sin ser vistos. El personal del bar era rápido y eficiente, aunque había un gran partido de fútbol en la televisión.Definitivamente los usaré y los recomendaré de nuevo

El bar y bistró View es un agradable bar de gestión familiar con una agradable bienvenida, una buena selección de comida que siempre está caliente, fresca y sabrosa. Las vistas son excelentes y las instalaciones son perfectas, incluso tienen una sala de funciones a un precio razonable y con un amplio espacio para reuniones familiares y celebraciones. Recomiendo encarecidamente este lugar! : -)

Esto no merece una calificación de cuatro estrellas. Fui a almorzar temprano. El lugar olía a lejía como un vestuario en un centro deportivo. La mitad del menú no estaba disponible. Lo que estaba disponible era bastante básico.

Vine aquí con amigos para el almuerzo y ¡qué hallazgo! las tortas de pescado de salmón fueron fabulosas con papas nuevas y ensalada. El sándwich de la puerta era enorme y el pan tan fresco. bebidas baratas también! habría sido 5 estrellas, ¡solo el camarero estaba gruñón!

Just popped in for lunch while out and about, was really surprised to find something so good tucked away by the sports centre. The food was great with a good selection catering for everyone. We both had ploughman’s, which was fantastic. The 2 meals for £10 looked great value as we saw the size of the portions served to other people. It’s a pub, restaurant, bistro, cafe and party venue all rolled in to one. Nice to see an independent getting it so right.

We went to a surprise 40th Birthday party at the View, held in its function room. It was a nice space, just the right size for the 50-ish guests. It was a very warm evening so we were pleased to be able to go outside onto the terrace overlooking the Sports Centre.

Just had yet another fantastic Sunday lunch at the view, group of 12 and everyone was happy, good home cooked food. Staff very accommodating. Can’t wait to visit again soon

The staff were very accommodating. Unfortunately the food, although a huge helping, was quite tasteless and tasted as if all bought in ready prepared. There was no ice available for drinks. However the disco in the function room was good fun.

We recently held a wake at the view after our fathers funeral. The staff were amazing and very accommodating to our needs. They were were efficient and unobtrusive and nothing was too much trouble. The buffet food was good, fresh sandwiches and delicious quiche as well as all the other extras. Parking is great and the fact that the function room is private is also a plus point. We would thoroughly recommend the view as a venue and thank everyone for making a sad occasion into a more enjoyable event.

Came here today and was pleasantly surprised by the food,was all fresh,nicely cooked and the doorstep sandwiches really were doorstep sandwiches and great value considering their size.

We visited for lunch and ordered 2 meals for £9.99.

we enjoyed our meal so much with family a few weeks ago. . .we returned with friends confident we would have another lovely meal.

Nice place for an evening pint with my wife and dog! No traffic noise, overlooks sports centre. We can (and do) even sit out when raining, under the awnings!

We stopped in here after a stroll down the sports centre for a pint. It's a great location and very family friendly, would recommend you give the place a visit!

After seeing Facebook posts for their ploughmans lunch so decided to try it. Not disappointed It was the best I've ever eaten. Huge portion and great value for money. All fresh and looking forward to returning

Can thoroughly recommend the food here, we have been to the View before when in the area and once again we were not disappointed. Good choice of food especially the specials! Would recommend the gammon or the sweet and sour chicken! Staff could not have been more helpful. Look forward to our next visit when up that way.

Came here with a friend for lunch. Ordered two jacket potatoes and they were very good. Big portions and a very tasty side salad. Will be coming here again most definitely. Good atmosphere and friendly staff. Good prices too ☺

If you go walking around the sport centre and have been doing some activity there then you must pop into this place afterwards. Good views good wine, beer and coffee ! Haven't tried the food yet but it smells and looks good, visit the place and enjoy

A second visit to the View, this time as a party of ten, ranging in age from 1 to 71. Service at the bar and at the table was speedy, friendly and unobtrusive, the room was busy but never felt crowded. The food was really good : the only scraps left on plates were some remains of children's macaroni cheese, as the portions were very generous. For a casual, unhurried but filling lunch, the View proved ideal : for meals for everyone, 9 people, (except the one-year-old) and a number of drinks, the bill was a little over £90, which we thought was good value.

To explain my title : there is a function room for private parties, TV in the main bar, a good and varied menu, plenty of space, pleasant staff, comfy chairs, good food. There are good views of the sports centre fields and nearby woodland from the windows and the outside terrace. The dishes we ordered for lunch were served promptly and proved excellent ; plenty of potatoes, lots of salad, three fishcakes when we expected two. The white wine was delicious and the coffees came in sizeable mugs. For a cold Sunday lunchtime in January it proved to be a warm place in which to relax over a leisurely lunch ; true, the TV was showing a football match, but we did not sit in its line of sight ( or sound ) so it was not a disturbance..

Stopped for coffee after a walk in the sports centre. A dry and bright day meant I could sit outside where there is a great view enabling you to see much of the area. Only had a drink, this was reasonably priced and good coffee. Will return another time to try the food.

Excellent place to stop for a drink and a snack after a busy afternoon at the sports center. Food nothing fancy but tasty and well cooked, staff are friendly.

Went to a 50th birthday party at the view. All was good up until leaving time. Staff rude and practically force you out of the pub as soon as 11.20pm comes.

After a long walk around the Sports Centre where the bar is situated it was a welcome sight. Very pleasant staff. Food was plentiful a very large jacket potato with loads of cheese and coleslaw and salad. My daughter just had chips. Very good value under £12 with two cold soft drinks. Quick service. It was very nice to sit on Terrace as we had our dog with us. Not fancy but good value.

Have been to Sports Centre on a number of occasions and never thought of stopping, went for a drink on a hot Saturday supporting the Red Rose Charity, and order drinks saw menu and it treasonable cost and ordered Lasangne and a Ham and Cheese Omelette, arrive "fresh" side salad and plentiful excellent food and value will not pass by again if Hungary, clean tide and pleasant staff and helpful what a change from grumpy staff

had a lovely Sunday lunch sat outside looking down over Southampton sports centre. Came for a roast, which was superb last time but sadly they don't have on the menu anymore but my seafood pie and Justine's Gluten free lasagne were superb both in quality & quantity.can recommend for fairly cheap, good quality food.

Called in for a Lunch yesterday. The food was wonderful and piping hot, and the Staff gave excellent service. Totally enjoyed our late lunch.

We had been at the sports centre in Southampton and found ourselves hungry. So we headed up the hill to the View Bar and Bistro for a late lunch. There was a bit of a wait but the very helpful staff informed us of this as we placed our order at the bar. 2 orange juice with lemonade and 1 ginger beer with famous grouse whiskey were taken outside to wait. Wonderful weather and fabulous views made for a lovely afternoon. The food arrived, with another apology for the 45min wait, lasagna with a fresh side salad and a bowl of chips were enjoyed by all. Last 3 of the day and well worth the wait. A good sized portion, well cooked and full of flavour. We were able to enjoy our food at our own pace. There are screens inside should you wish to watch sports. A wedding party photos were quite entertaining during the afternoon! They have a bar and are able to cater for functions. Whilst the place was clean inside and out, one or two outside benches could stand a bit of work. Worth a visit for the views over the sports centre. Averagely priced for a meal out these days with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Following the passing of my sister it was my task to find a suitable location for the wake. My daughter recommended "The View" at the Sports Centre as it had been refurbished and has had good reviews. Well, it has been many a year since I last visited the Sports Centre as I moved away 25 years ago. What a pleasant surprise I found.I spoke to Mark on my arrival and explained what I wanted, a private function room with nice views over the Sports Centre, exactly what they offer! I was very pleased with the prices charged, Mark was extremely helpful and happy that I made a provisional booking. Two days later I confirmed the booking by phone, again, I received first class professional service.On the day of the wake, everything was laid out perfectly, the lovely finger buffet, teas and coffees plus freshly cooked chips. Sadly less mourners arrived than expected and there was plenty of food left over which we were able to take with us in polystyrene boxes.We had a lovely view over the SportsCentre lovely white flowers on each circular table, it was the perfect place to talk to all who had gathered.We will return soon and have a meal there too, the menu looks very interesting and very well priced.I recommend this venue 100%.David Onslow.

What a find!This cafe/restaurant is nestled in the park and we weren't sure what to expect. The choice of food on offer was varied and ranged from sandwiches etc to curry, ribs, burgers and kids meals. There was also a fully stocked bar with beer on draught which we didn't anticipate.The food was cooked from fresh and totally delicious. Clean plates from the whole family.We particularly recommend the shepherds pie!

I was looking for somewhere welcoming and friendly close to Southampton Crematorium to hold my Dad's wake. We made a provisional booking by phone and then I turned up incognito to test the food and service. Big portions, hot food, clean tables and friendly staff convinced me that this was the place, although the outside of the building does look tired and the path to it is not overly wheelchair friendly.I then spoke to Louise who explained our food options and showed me the function room. We could have the standard finger fare at £7.75 per person or the fork option which included pasta and potato salad for a pound per person more. Unlimited tea and coffee from an urn was £1 per person extra. These prices included the price of the function room. We went for the standard option plus tea and coffee. Although they were fairly busy Louise spend 15 minutes with me explaining how things worked. She also agreed that they would open up early for us before the funeral. Unlike other more established venues in the area The View was happy to build their offering around our requirements rather than what suited them.On the day everything went very well. The room was warm, there were flowers on the tables, the hot water urn was in the function room and the staff were great. We put money behind the bar for drinks. There was room to walk around and circulate but there were plenty of chairs around circular tables as well. There was loads of food which included various sandwiches, sausage rolls, samosas, quiche, pizza squares, chicken nuggets, bahjis, chicken drumsticks, spring rolls and hot chips made when we arrived. Doggy bags were provided so we could take away the food we couldn't eat there.The only misunderstanding came over payment. I did not pay in advance and had thought they had said they did not want to get involved with payment on the day so I expected to receive an invoice later. It turned out I needed to pay before we left the venue. Not a problem but a better initial explanation would have been helpful.All in all The View provided exactly what we needed and turned what could have been a stressful and sad day into a memorable event with family and friends. Thoroughly recommended. Thank you.

Had never heard of the place until recently but thought we'd give a try for a quick lunch. The outer building is tatty but the interior decoration is nice, clean and modern too. The menu for lunch looked good with plenty of choice at reasonsable prices. I went for Cod and Chips but unfortunately they had run out at 12.30. Instead I opted for the pie, mash and vegetables. We also ordered the lasagne and salad and two childrens burger and chips. When the food arrived, there was plenty of it. However, the overall meal was not great. The pie was bought in, the mash.....possibly out of a packet, iffy carrots, grey cabbage and gravy so thick it stuck to the fork. The lasagne came with salad, the majority of which was onion. The childrens burgers felt sorry for themselves...burger in bun...the end. Chips on the side. Having seen all of the previous four and five star reviews, Im really surprised how high the ratings have been, assuming the same food is being served. I was really hoping this was going to be the 'hidden gem' that other reviewers have found but the food was poor. The food reminded me of the sports centre itself....tired, underinvested and no proper effort made. The cafe is in a prime location to be really good, I hope it succeeds and I am proved wrong.

We visited on a Sunday morning, just for coffee. There was only one other family there so it was very quiet. Service was quick and efficient. We both had cappuccino coffees which were very good. Good views across the Sports Centre.

Had a fabulous meal with my family mid week - Modern interior and very friendly staff. Will be returning very soon loved it

It is a few years since we visited this bar and it had been completely transformed inside. It is smart and modern. It was busy but the bar was well staffed, and they were efficient and polite.

Been here a few times now - normally when waiting for my son playing football. Had good pub grub, big portions and nice staff. Decor is modern place nice and clean. Been on my own and with family, who,liked it too. Free wifi if I'm working which is a bonus. All round a good place with a nice atmosphere.

We were looking for a cosy spot to feed up our son who had just started at uni. Found it at The View. Relaxed but attentive service. Big portions from a decent grill/pub grub menu.

A friend booked The View for us to meet as a group and have some food. I'd not been here since it became the view so looked on their website at the menu. I was not impressed because it all looked 'freezer via deep fryer to table' type food. How very very wrong I was. When we arrived I could see the effort they have gone to in refurbishing the bar and eating area. Yes it is still very much a pub where sports people come in to have a drink after using the sports centre facilities but you must not let this detract from the really amazing home cooked food they provide. I ordered garlic mushrooms and expected them to be the standard button shroom coated in bread crumbs and deep fried but when it came out the mushrooms were sliced and sautéed in garlic butter and served on a slice of toasted fresh baked bread. Delightful, loved the strong garlic flavour. For main course I ordered the pork belly with mash and seasonal veg. What a perfect dish, the veg was plentiful and cooked to perfection and the pork was melt in the mouth tender. Fairly large portions so didn't go for a pud. I really can't wait to go back here. Will try the Sunday roast next I think.

this was the first pub i went into as a very young child in the early 70's..... its more than a little different now. the Roasts were very good for £8.95. massive portions. my Mum had a childs roast which was more than enough if you have a small appetite. service was very friendly and the other meals all ranging from around £7 to £9 were very generous. not really a venue for a special occasion as you could be sat close to a group who are just drinking after playing sport BUT for good value, decent food in a nice location you cant go wrong here.

Hants Hockey Umpires were well looked after following a ladies match. Not only were we given £10 up front by Southampton Ladies, but we were impressed by the vista and smartness of the inside of this charming location which from the outside would double quite well for a Poirot mystery as it dates back to the 1930s. We had a chilli snack/meal which was yummy and just right. Smart and polite bar staff. A shandy cost £3.40 which is par for the course hear in the wheely-bin suburbs of Southamptonl. The area is full of opportunity and stretches to some 150 acres I believe

Popped here when out on a bike ride and was pleasantly surprised! Good traditional home cooked food and very reasonably priced!Large portions and will always accommodate our requirements such as splitting a adults main meal between the children if they don't fancy what's on the kids menu. Staff are always friendly and always make us feel welcome. This is our regular for eating out now! Would very much recommended!

We hired The View's function room for our engagement party. It was very reasonable in terms of price for this, and we were able to provide our own catering which is quite a rarity when hiring such places.The room itself was really spacious and equipped with everything we needed, neutrally decorated and really nice.The staff were consistently excellent, meeting all of our needs and answering queries leading up to, and during the event. They were great and always helpful. They even bought in specific drinks to serve behind the bar that we asked for. A really great place to hire for a very reasonable price. Would definitely recommend.

Had our engagement party here, our guests were looked after and the staff were very helpful throughout the whole process. This is a great place for party hire, with a lovely well decorated function room that held our 80 guests easily.Very impressed with the quality of the food and helpfulness of the staff. We would definitely recommend this venue to anyone looking to hire a function room, and will be looking to use it again in the future.

Frequently visit to meet with friends for tea or for lunch. Always good service and reasonable prices. Easy to park nearby. Great food & always a good choice

This pub restaurant at the top of Southampton sports centre is good value for money. Good range of every day ales and typical pub style menu is supported by a limited but attractive specials board. The price is competitive and the portion size more than adequate to fill an empty belly, I'll add that the quality was also to a good standard. Bar staff and service was good, and the bar restaurant area Is clean and with nice decor. We were happy with our visit, and would return again for a informal munchy evening.

Celebrated my parents 50th Anniversary with family and friends. No fault found all staff helped us with the facilities especially when it came to wheelchair access. The food buffet put out was delicious. I'll definately be coming here again in the future. X

Called in here for a quick bite to eat after taking our 4 year old grandson to the Pleasure Park funfair. The outside of the restaurant doesn't do it justice. It was much nicer inside than I remembered from a previous visit so I think it has had a makeover. The staff appeared friendly and accommodating and the atmosphere was relaxing. The food was all freshly cooked with reasonably sized portions and price. Would definitely visit again especially once the weather warms up as it is in a lovely setting to sit outside to eat.

For someone who likes "good food" I was surprised at just how good this place is. Good portions, tasty and prompt. Mark, the manager here is Hillarious and is soon going to be one of those "characters" you can't forget. Give it a go.. go on, you know you want to.

Went here for Valentine's night. The meals - Shepherds Pie for me, and Gammon/Chips for the OH - were cooked to perfection. It's nice to have veg. that aren't either soggy or raw. We ordered a side order of chips which we wouldn't have done if we'd realised how big the meals actually were. We had apple crumble and both this and the mains really were like home-cooked. The decor is lovely - very fresh, clean and tasteful. All in all, very welcoming and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and friendly.I've been to more expensive places and not enjoyed a meal as much as this. The prices are very competitive and there is a good selection.

Returning from a walk through and around the Southampton Sports Centre, we happenned upon The View. On a cold winters day it was a refreshing oasis of warmth, where the beer and wine were good, and the food, was surpiringly tasty and plentiful. The prices were pub competitive and the portions for the roasts were man sized. Children were welcome, but dogs were asked to remain outside.The view is outstanding and it would be a great place in the summer when the outside seating would come into its own.Don't walk past!

Went to the View for my daughters 16th birthday, lovely venue, very friendly polite staff & food absolutely lovely, and very good value..would highly recommend the view to anyone

The View is a restaurant that is simply a forgotten Jem in the southampton sports centre, due to it being remembered by many as a rather run down pub ( the sporting view ) but believe me The View as it is now known has had a full revamp back to its glory days, it has a wonderful atmosphere the staff are both friendly and helpful ( which is sadly hard to find theses days ) the food is clearly home made from fresh ingredients, not processed and reheated in a microwave. Plus what a great view, or for those that want to have a treat without the guilt you could take a walk around our lovely sports centre. We have enjoyed many meals at The View since it reopened that when we saw they would be open on Christmas Day we have booked to take the whole family ( for once I will be able to enjoy me christmas meal without ant pressure )

I have been here for a drink a few times but ate for the first time on friday. My food was delicious and the staff were great. I will definitely be back

Had an amazing meal there to night for the USA theme was lush had the jd ribs put T.g.i Fridays to shame but got a new head chef that will do any think for his customers all so got a new menu going live as of Monday night will all local sourced produce looking forward to are next visit

Went with friends and the staff catered to our every need. Good fresh food and lovely staff. The views are amazing too and I would absolutely go again and recommend to others.

This is a wonderful refurbishment and living close by, we wanted to make it our local. We had an ok meal, although they forgot the extra's which should have been bought with the meal. They didn't have the ingredients for my son's or friend's meal, so they had to chose something else. The food, when it came (and it was a long wait) was fine - nothing outstanding but ok. I don't know how I feel about the place really. The setting is wonderful with breathtaking views and the inside is very nice. However I can't understand why they haven't got a separate bar area. Those just wanting a drink sit right along with the diners and of course you get the obligatory children running around or rowdy crowds which can be a nuisance. I asked for a glass of Shiraz and was told it was only sold by the bottle. Then the bar man tried to charge us for two different tables. I think this could be a lot better and it's a shame when they have put so much effort into the refurb, My neighbour went up for a meal around 7.30 pm and hadn't booked. They said the chef was just about to go home but they did give her and her friends a meal which she said was awful. If they don't up their game, my opinion is, that it will have to close eventually - which will be a shame. I just think they need a professional in there to shake it up and do some fine tuning and it could be a success.

When we heard it was being refurbished we thought it would be great and the first visit was full of promise.I don't know who the managers are but they should quit now. Either they don't know what they are doing or don't care.Staff couldn't care less, poor food, terrible service are the first three things that spring to mind.

Visited at lunchtime on a Saturday, wasn't busy so didn't expect to have to wait too long. Chose our meals (a sandwich and ham, egg and chips) from some beer stained print outs on the bar and took a seat. An hour later we were still waiting for our food! When it arrived it was not pleasant! Eggs were cold and the sandwich bread was soggy! Used the toilets before leaving, only to find half the loo roll holder missing, along with the button to the hand dryer. Very disappointed!

Breakfast is supposedly served until midday however at 11 o'clock the chef had to check that there was enough ingredients for two full English breakfasts. An hour later the food arrived. As there were only two other customers they were not run off their feet. Well they advertise that the breakfast contains everything 'and we mean everything' they don't mention it is in miniature so this is not a hearty appetising meal. Very disappointing. The venue is fantastic and décor fashionable. The food, service and prices however need to be changed if this business is to succeed. Will not be eating here again or recommending this establishment.

As other reviewers have commented, the décor is warm and welcoming and the furnishings are much more comfortable than at any time in the venue's past thirty odd years. Yesterday we visited for the third time and ate our second Sunday Roast, both of which had issues but this one was vast improvement on our first - would have been nice to have Apple Sauce served with our Pork, but that's a minor grumble. Pleased to see that the vegetables were apparently cooked fresh.Might just be me but on a Sunday I would value having the full Menu available, because Sunday Roast out (anywhere) is hardly ever as good as at home and Sundays are my only opportunity to lunch out. (Although Karen and Deb's Sunday Roasts at the previous Pub in the Park were probably the best we'd ever had anywhere out). Only had one experience of the full Menu, which disappointed rather - more because the menu unreasonably raised my expectations that the 'Gourmet' Sausages and Mash would be better than apparently deep-fried catering sausages - that said, the accompanying mash and onion gravy were fantastic and all was served piping hot. A couple of suggestions for improving the 'feel' of the place would include, clearing of tables more promptly and encouraging customers to keep their children under appropriate control.All in all though, it's a big improvement on previous incarnations of the venue.

Three generation family get together for coffee/hot chocolate etc. Then went for a walk around the sports centre. The little ones enjoyed the playground area close to The View. We decided to have lunch there which was brilliant. Plenty of choice and good value. The staff were very helpful and atmosphere relaxed. A good all rounder place to enjoy as a family ! Will definitely be going again !

Went in for breakfast before their official opening. Very nicely decorated and very friendly staff. Feel that staff could do with a uniform or something though as the clothing didn't quite fit with the atmosphere. Breakfast was delicious but plates could have been warmed. We fed that back to the staff who were very gracious and appreciative of our feedback. Will be back to sample more of the menu soon.

Due to the decor, the pub has more of a restaurant feel and has chic surroundings in which to eat your meal.The meal itself was pleasant, with plenty of flavour to tantalise the taste bubs. The service was very good; the chef brought the food to us personally. I would definitely eat here again.

The restaurant has recently been refurbished and has a homely spacious feel. Located atthe top of the hill in the sports centre.I went with a friend for a Sunday roast and we were surprised at the quality of the meal, very reasonably priced for the standard.It was busy, with only a few available tables but still the space made for little noise and conversation was easy.Overall a very positive experience, next time I'm competing in Southampton I will no doubt attend again.Zach
