The Upper Deck Rock in Cornwall, Isles of Scilly

Amazing evening!!!! I went here with my family and it was simply amazing. The food was absolutely incredible, and the service was quick, not to mention the server was very helpful with our requests and needs. On top of all this the atmosphere was terrific and really added to the experience. I really enjoyed this restaurant and would really recommend it!

Staying in Rock for a few days on a small break. My wife and I decided to mooch around to see what was on offer food wise. We decided on The Upper Deck. We hadn't booked a table so were dubious on whether we'd be able to get a table. We were greeted by the vivacious Ophelia. Wonderful personality, warm smile and very welcoming. Although it was a busy evening for her and the restaurant, she had no issues in fitting us in. Her service was superb. The whole team at the Upper Deck work very hard, yet, although busy, the atmosphere is still very chilled. Ophelia has the unique skill of when she talks to you, it's like you're the only customers in the room, and you being there matters. Her personality and aura light up the room. A definite asset to front of house. The service was excellent, not intrusive and very professional. We both had the days special, crispy chilli beef strips with jasmine rice. Delicious. Sorbet to follow. X2 meals, x2 alcoholic drinks ( 3 pints and 1 half) x1 dessert £78. Plus 10% optional service charge. Which in my opinion is well deserved. Great value for not only the quality of food (top marks chef!) But also for the atmosphere, and staff. Ophelia, you were born to do what you do! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience. Superb view. Excellent food. Exemplary service! The Upper Deck is a great place to eat and have a drink in rock. What a location overlooking the entire Camel Bay over to Padstow. Ophelia and Claire are a brilliant hospitality team - other restaurants/pubs take note! The menu has something for everyone and all very reasonably priced. Our drinks and food arrived promptly - with a smile…how refreshing!! And superb meals they were too! Highly recommended AAAAA

Great position and view but that is the only positive I can give. The person who greeted us (surly blond) wanted to know what we wanted to drink before we even sat down and did not even provide a drinks list, I now know the reason to this!!! THE PRICES ARE A COMPLETE RIP OFF. I have paid £18:90 for a pint of Doom Bar and a double vodka and coke!! My wife was told it was £12:00 for a double shot of vodka and £1:00 for a shot of Pepsi! I work in central London and don’t pay that. If you fancy a drink please use your hard earned money at a business that appreciates your custom and does not treat customers with distain. Upper Deck shame on you. Btw the Mariners just 100meters down the road is £4 per shot of vodka If you want a more reasonably priced drink with the same views I recommend you go there.

Beautiful cafe right on the coast. Dogs welcome. Food was delicious, staff are super friendly. Well worth getting the ferry from Padstow, walking on the beach then stopping for a bite to eat and a pint!

Delightful location overlooking the Camel Estuary, stayed inside because the wind was very cold. had for lunch what i can only say was the best burger I've ever tasted, absolutely delicious. usually towards the end of a burger the meat becomes dry and tasteless, not so the Upper deck burger! would thoroughly recommend!

Simply fantastic. My family and friend, including our dog, had lunch and dinner here on a number of occasions in one week because it was so, so good. Claire and team provided exemplary customer service, great advice about the menu and were fun, friendly and welcoming to the dog and us. The food is delicious and if you order a glass of wine, get the ‘Claire size’. :)

Was told to wait for a table bt a very rude gentleman there was myself husband and dog . He then walked past us twice without commenting. Waitress came over to say at least 30.minute wait .

Epic prawn sandwich We popped in on the only sunny day of a rainy week - the staff were lovely , it’s very dog friendly and it overlooks the camel estuary - will defo be coming back

What an absolute gem, staying in Padstow for a long weekend we caught the water taxi over to Rock for a couple of cocktails and dinner at the upper deck, service was excellent & friendly, staff were efficient and the food was to die for, mussels were totally amazing and you can literally see where they came from in the estuary! great cocktails and actually good value for money, we will return to Padstow and we will deffo go back to the Upper deck, keep up the fab service guys, you are all stars xx

We enjoyed a very pleasant evening here. Booking on the phone was easy with a lovely lady. We were welcomed and shown to our table by the wonderful Ophelia. The food was great-we had the burger and chicken Caesar salad. We have visited the Upper Deck a few times and have always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, amazing views and delicious food. We have been as a family, a couple and always with our dog. We will definitely be back again soon!

We called in for a drink. It took 20 minutes for someone to come and take our order. After another 25mins of waiting for our 2 drinks we gave up and walked out. The staff had little idea how to run a bar. It seemed if you sat inside you got served. ahead of the orders taken on the outside upper deck. Our review of pathetic service seems common with other reviews. There are better places where your custom will be appreciated. Avoid.

7 of us had a wonderful evening at The Upper Deck. The Porthilly mussels were excellent. The chef catered admirably for the vegans and vegetarians in the group. The cocktails were splendid and the team know how to make a negroni, unlike another nearby well-known establishment. The front of house team were delightful as well as efficient. Top marks!

My wife has been following the Upper Deck on Instagram since last year and has consistently insisted that this was a place to visit during our Cornwall holiday this month. We were unable to get a table last year so I was determined to get a table this year BUT oh my goodness, what a disappointment we had when we visited on Sunday afternoon 15th September! The place was not full and so we were able to get a table on-spec with our dog. We were placed on a table for 6 (one table for 2 and one for 4) at the window as the balcony was full but for us the table was perfect. Unfortunately things started to downhill from there with us having to wait 15-20 minutes to have our order taken for drinks and then having to wait 30 minutes for the drinks to be served and for us to finally order food… to make things worse the wine was not chilled, something that I at least expected at £12.40 a glass! Considering all we had ordered were sandwiches (fish goujion and prawn & avocado), it was another 30 or so minutes before it was served and when it was it looked nothing like the images the Upper Deck have posted on Instagram… the rocket salad was limp and slimy and tasteless with the sandwiches not dressed as shown. While we were eating we then had our table split to accommodate new diners (why this wasn’t done when we were taken to our table I don’t know) and noted that at one point there were 4 tables that were left uncleared after diners had left… it’s not right. When we had finished our lunch I then had to go to the bar to pay the bill as no one had bothered to come to us to ask whether we wanted dessert, additional drinks or if we had finished. Whilst paying I raised the issues as mentioned above… all the member of staff did was shrug her shoulders and say “sorry, we have been busy, what you want me to say?” … I am sure you will be as surprised and disappointed at our experience… For a lunch that cost an incredibly overpriced £68.80 with shocking service, I just felt you should know this feedback.

I must say, service & food are usually spot on during our annual visit here - but this time, it just missed the mark. We found the service to be slow and impersonal. The tall young girl working the bar was the only friendly face we encountered which unfortunately for us, was at the end when we paid. We will try again outside of school holidays next time.

We’ve visited here many times over the years but when we called in at the weekend for drinks the staff just seemed really off. The young girl who welcomed us initially was nice but as we asked for a table a lady who appeared to be the manager interrupted and was just really quite abrupt. We were given a table outside on the deck and told none of the inside tables could be used as they are getting ready for evening service. They turned a few people away but I think what made this uncomfortable is that the staff are quite abrupt. Perhaps they are a newly established team etc but I just don’t feel I would go back there which is such a shame as I’ve had so many happy memories made here for lovely meals and or drinks. Service for drinks was slow and terrace is slow squashed up and no shade on a sunny day as they had the shade awning back.

What an absolute gem of a place, the view, service and food were amazing! Stayed in polzeath, but visiting rock and padstow for the day and evening! Very welcoming and staff very attentive at all times although extremely busy. Served by a young lady called Lucy who was a real credit to the team nothing was too much trouble. Thank you for an enjoyable evening we will definitely be back.

Not the first time we’ve visited, but recently for Valentine’s Day. We had a fantastic time, restaurant is beautiful overlooking the beach, staff really friendly and food was delicious. Would highly recommend!

Lovely coffee and tea. Served by a young chap with the name of Aaron who was so attentive and 10/10 service. The restaurant is in a lovely setting and a great place for a quick stop off by the beach. 100% recommend.

What a great atmosphere with candle light, i had amazing starter, perfect mussels and waffles as dessert, it was divine! Staff was lovely !Will come back on my next trip

Really good casual lunch spot, with views of the Camel estuary. Ideal for refueling after a long walk. Fish finger sandwich on white bloomer was terrific. Only issue, £6 for a pint of Madri was way over the top.

My Wife and I had the Steak special ! which was very tasty I found the peppercorn sauce a little hot for me BUT My wife liked it .So you can't please everyone. We enjoyed the experience so much that we went back for Lunch the next day . This time We had the southern Fried Chicken wrap WOW !! what a dish this is a big wrap with plenty of chicken strips with a tasty veg and sauce. All of the above washed down with great wine. Just like to say,I had the roast beef today,and it was banging, with a small house bloody Mary, made by the lovely tall waitress, Wat a smiler,made me smile, great service great atmosphere, with a live pianist aswel, Wat more can a Man ask for.. Viva la upper deck xxx

Had the katsu cauliflower wrap on a rainy Cornish monday followed by a heavy piece of choc cake! The wrap was not what I expected at all but was delicious! Maybe a better description is needed as it’s so much more than what I thought I’d get, not complaining at all! very happy and the dog and I will come again!

We were served by a very tall waitress with bright red lipstick, unlike the other staff we did not find her friendly. When it started raining outside we decided to move inside, but I could not get the door to open, I did not realise it was a sliding door. The tall waitress was inside and just laughed loudly, but did not help, all the other customers stared, another staff member came to my aid. It was very embarrassing. The tall waitress said : ' we weren't laughing at you, honestly'. Really nice place overlooking the Camel Estuary. We enjoyed our smashed avocado on sourdough and each had a pot of tea. Very nice pots with the tea. A bonus is that they sell Atlantic Pale Ale but as the sun wasn’t over the yard arm we didn’t indulge! Will definitely go back!

A lovely evening in the new refurbished upper deck restaurant. We ordered both the specials last night and they were amazing. Will be back asap.

Our intention was to go for lunch, but we were soon put off by the prices. £10 for all children's food! This is ridiculous. I then thought I'd get a fruit shoot. Yet to find out after ordering, that they weren't for children at all. This was a glass (likely half a pint) of orange juice with ice. When I asked and enquired about a normal child's fruit shoot, they said they didn't sell them. By why was it label like this on the menu? So my son who is 3, had this for a whopping £4. Not very child friendly at all, very expensive. We decided not to eat as the portions were also small. Fish finger sandwich for £15 and yet in Padstow we only paid £12. Basically profitering because when you get to Rock, there isn't much to do and only a few places to eat.

16 pounds for a spoon full of rice and a small handful of cauliflower?! Surely dinner should have a minimum serving was very disappointing and would never go back. Tip for future …invest in bowls and serve a real portion.

Good food, service and views over to Padstow. Simple, but good choice on the menu and good range of beers on tap. The staff are very good and the service was fast and efficient. Good place for families and dogs are welcome.

As the name suggests this bar is upstairs although There is a lift. The staff were friendly and helpful, we sat outside on small tables and chairs, it soon became busy because of the sunshine. But the views were worth it.
