We stayed here for a pit stop overnight when visiting family in a nearby village and this place didn't disappoint. We received a very warm welcome from the landlord and landlady and check in was a breeze. They have a great selection of alcohol and it was really pleasing to see a village pub so busy. The building itself is stunning and much larger than I thought it would be with an extended restaurant and outdoor area with seating. The room had everything we needed for the night, including a bath and a shower and it overlooked the town square which was nice and quiet. The bed was very comfortable and we slept soundly. Our room was number 2. The breakfast menu has something for everyone with a selection of cooked and non cooked options and you can tell quality ingredients were used. It was a shame this was a flying visit as the the evening and Sunday lunch menu looked fantastic and we will be sure to try these on our next visit. Overall we felt very welcomed and the pub has a very homely feel to it, we will be sure to stay again next time we are passing.

New mangement have recently opened after along closure. I have not stayed as I live nearby or eaten as yet. More when I do. The new owners have previous experience of running a sucessful pub and it shows. They have hit the ground running and the service and atmosphere are superb. They are attracting a lot of customers by creating a well run business. Good variety of ales and drinks. The food menu is ambitious and I look forward to indulging myself.

Yea! The Uncorn has it's mojo back. Newly refurbished, by new publicans, Mark and Hanna, it offers friendly, competant staff, decent wines and a small but perfectly formed lunch menu. There was nothing surprising on the menu but our meals, sea bass and mussles, were quality foods, perfectly cooked and were standout delicious. The mussel broth was the best I had ever eaten and I've eaten lots. Lucky Deddington!

A very disappointing experience, I came here on a recommendation for dinner to have a young lad on the bar more interested in his phone and his mates who were in drinking than service, the diet coke ordered was flat and tasted watered down more than most pubs. The food, I ordered a simple burger.. to a cost of £15???? The top bun was stale, the bottom bun soggy?, The meat was alright but the tomatoes were past their use by date clearly, chips were alright Tried to bring it up to the young lad on the bar but he was too busy with his phone and mates ✌️

Wasn't aware until the day before that the restaurant and bar were both closed! Also wasn't aware were should have pre booked a arrival time! Despite being told there was only other 1 person booked in our room was not the one shown on the booking! It was just about big enough for 2 adults, the bed was uncomfortable, at a angle so I spent the while night rolling onto the floor, everytime you moved it made a noise as it was a metal frame and the round bits on the ends kept falling off. There was only 1 chair in the room to be used for the desk so we had the bed only to sit on, the mattress was uncomfortable and I some how needed up aching all over due to haveing to keep repositioning myself and being unable to sleep. The room was clean but there where scuff marks on the wall and a small hole in the door. Whilst I understand the building is old and the floors are uneven I think more should be done to make the beds level. Unfortunately didn't enjoy any of the stay and wasn't impressed at getting a substandard room. The only upside was the other pub in the Village that served us a Fabulous meal!

So let me take you through my dinner Friday night, when I arrived an elderly lady in a staff top refused to serve me because she didn’t know how to pour a pint despite being the only one behind the bar for 20 mins. After we sat down and ordered food we were told we weren’t allowed it because the menu wasn’t updated and they didn’t have half of what we ordered and the girl behind the bar thought she was a joker for making fun of me for ordering a Camembert on my own... thanks. We spent more time waiting for our food than Anne frank waited in her loft and when it finally came out it looked like my mum got red wine drunk and through up on the pavement on a hot summers day. To top it all off one of the regulars bumped into me and told me to do one. Cheers

We came to visit here after hearing the new owner was starting to make a bit more effort with his business after a year of being there. We were greeted by fag butts all over the floor, along with a load of rubbish and flower beds full of junk and fag butts. Not the greatest welcome, but we continued. The entrance corridor was dark and half lit by fairy lights on the ceiling. No one was really in the pub, apart from a couple of what I assume to be locals sitting at the bar. The bar area was a mess, with bottles everywhere, dirty glasses (not sure where they came from as the pub was empty). We asked to look at a menu and was handed a folded and ripped bit of paper, which was strewn with spelling and grammar mistakes. The guy behind the bar looked totally at a loss surrounded by mess on his own. The coffee machine was surrounded by dirty napkins and sachets of sugar, with a pint of milk sat out on the side (not in the fridge). The floors don’t seem to have been washed since 2015, and don’t even get me started on the windows. What was once a beautiful beer garden is now covered with tents and tables are stacked in the flower beds. There’s no real sign of life outside apart from the mould that seemed to be growing in the ash trays. The pizza oven is filled with fag butts and rubbish, something I’m sure environmental health would have a field day with. I was also suggested to go upstairs to the ‘pool room’ - a room with sticky floors, sticky tables and more strewn rubbish. The pool table barely works without a good kick in told. I popped outside of said pool room to find a stair case leading down to the garden covered in glass and - yeah you guessed it - fag butts. It’s such a shame that this lovely little pub has been treated with such lack of respect, and it is now so far away from its former glory that its hard to believe it will ever regain it. I will not be coming back.

The Unicorn is a well modernised pub set in the heart of the Market Place in Deddington. It's larger than it looks from the outside as it goes back quite a long way and there are several separate areas. Staff are friendly and welcoming and the pub was well decorated for Christmas - sitting near the window you also get a great view of the public Christmas tree in the Market Place and the attractive church beyond. They have a 'Farm to Fork' ethos, indicating the provenance of how the meat is sourced. The menu Is fairly straightforward and I enjoyed a very good 8oz sirloin steak which was tender and juicy and came with a good range of accompanyments. My one disappointment here was the range of ales on offer - four handpumps but all dispensing national brands. Perfectly drinkable but given their 'Farm to Fork' thing, one would have thought they could have complemented this by extending it to include the ales and offered at least one or two beers from local, independent breweries; a sort of 'Brewery to Glass' type thing. That aside, this is a pleasant enough venue, well worth a visit.

We booked a single nights bed and breakfast about 6 months ago for Saturday 6 July 2019. We were made aware that the premises was being refurbished just prior to this. The check in time was 1400hrs and admittedly, we got there 5 mins before. There were 2 or 3 staff around and we were made to feel that it was most inconvenient that we had arrived. They questioned whether the £90 price would include breakfast as the place was under new management since our booking. I advised them that this issue was not my problem and £90 was the booking price!!They were very casual towards us and we were shown our room at 1415hrs. With no exaggeration, the room was no more than a box room of about 11 feet x 11 feet, with an en suite shower/toilet/sink .

Loved the location, but, the Unicorn Inn was a very disappointing experience. The four of us arrived at 1.55pm on Saturday 6th July and were told rather bluntly that we could not check in until 2.00pm. We then waited another 15 minutes to be shown to our rooms. Both rooms were similar. For £90 per night they were very small and poorly appointed . There was a total lack of facilities in the rooms - no wardrobe space, just a hook on the door of the bathroom and a rather useless contraption called an 'instahanger' on the wall in the bedroom. The bed was in a cramped section of a very cramped room and was lumpy and very uncomfortable . The decor of the room was a little 'oppressive' with very dark wallpaper behind the bed, depicting books - WHY??We were attending two days of family events and in our case, we were booked in for two nights. The exterior of the hotel, the beer garden, in particular, was dirty and untidy. The fire escape which ended in the beer garden was partially obstructed by undergrowth - clearly a health and safety issue! On our first day there, we went for a morning stroll in the village and on our return about 20 minutes later, we were locked out of the premises and had to borrow a phone to ask them to let us in!!!! We were surprised when we returned on the second evening to find that the room had not been 'made up' nor were the minimal supplies of tea/coffee replenished. We were also advised that although our stay included breakfast, if we wished to partake of this, we would have to be in the dining area between 7am and 7.30am. This was despite a notice immediately outside the dining area advising guests that Monday to Friday breakfast would be served between 7 am and 9.30am. On the positive side, breakfast turned out to be very good, cooked by the owner, using locally grown produce. The owner was very friendly and polite. I suspect that the main problem was a lack of staff. I would not return to this establishment

As above. This picture is outdated, from previous owners, & sadly the new ones need a lot more training in menu choices, serving & speed. Such a shame as the potential is there, If you want a reasonably priced local food then fine but if I eat out I want choice & something different to homecooking. Limited menu & very slow service.

We took my dad here for his 89th birthday as he lives in the village. The Unicorn has recently been taken over by new people. The menu was very uninspiring and with very little choice. We chose orders of steak which was the worst undercooked and fatty meat ever, served with burnt soggy chips and just a few watercress leaves. The service was appalling. The young waitress was hopeless. We had to ask several times for mustard and ketchup' The steak knives arrived at the end of the meal. We asked for the dessert menu and gave up when after waiting for nearly an hour didn't arrive. The people on the table next to us walked out as they said their starters were so awful.and canceled their main course. After complaining to the manager I must admit he was very apologetic and halved the cost of our bill but it didn't compensate for my dads ruined birthday treat.

I left it a few weeks after its refurbishment to try and can here with a work colleague on a Wednesday evening to find the place surprisingly quiet. I like that the owners have reconfigured the bar and I think it works much better than the previous configuration. The beer was good and the food was OK but average at best and nothing more which was a little disappointing. The menu was uninspiring and look like the sort of choice you get in the 100's of average pubs around the country. I had the BBQ chick which was OK at best but tasted sour as the cheese and BBQ sauce combo just doesn't work, but I've seen this done in numerous pubs. I do wonder if the chef actually tastes the food. Would I come here again? well I wouldn't be in any hurry to but will come back for a pint or two. There are better places to each in the village and locally.

Lovely setting and the food was fantastic. Beef which is best I’ve had in many years was cooked to perfection. Roast potatoes were delicious as was the cauliflower cheese. Nice touch were leeks which are very rarely served as an accompaniment.

Had a great meal in the Unicorn - one of the best cottage pies I've had out (apart from my wife's!!) and excellent ale to accompany it. The liver & bacon etc looked pretty good too!

This was our first visit to The Unicorn at Deddington, it was sort of half way between where I live and where one of my daughters live. I was pleasently surprised with the service and the food, it was very good. The lady even served my granddaughter in the garden which she thought was very good. Good food pleasant surroundings, good service at a reasonable price. We would use this restaurant again.

My wife and I called in to the Unicorn during the afternoon to find out cooking times, thinking it was the local pub famous for its pies. We were told it was not, but the welcome was such that we decided to eat there anyway. What a good decision!

Friday night and we were 1 of 2 tables in the entire evening. No atmosphere at all and rather dead. I assumed it had been sadly taken over since our last visit a yr ago. Basic menu with rather expensive prices for what came out. Waited a long time for starter even though we were the only table in at the time...

Had Sunday lunch for 6, 4 adults and 2 children. For 6.95 the starters were a little ordinary my baked mushroom with goats cheese was a little over cooked, small and served simply on some mixed lettuce, tomato and cucumber. The prawns and salmon salad again lacking creativity for the price. The roast beef was very nice and a good portion and fair at £13.95 but the sea bass was a tiny fillet on a few crushed potatoes and spinach at £14.95 poor value. The deserts were very nice I had ginger rum and raisin pudding with custard at £6.95 expensive but nice. When I say things were expensive my comment is in the rounds of the surroundings a little tired and lacking atmosphere, the service lacked shine although the young lad was polite but for £30 a head we expected the whole experience to be a bit better. Shame it could so easily have been a better experience .

Despite it being somewhat late for lunch, the staff were really obliging and helpful. We had fairly simple dishes but they arrived quickly and were hot and tasty. The ham, egg and chips was good quality with plenty on the plate and at £11.50 quite good value. No room for dessert but Wells ale (Eagle IPA)was well worth sampling. Car parking indeed even travelling through the popular town of Deddington can be difficult but we got a free space very close to the hostelry.

We’ve always enjoyed visiting the cafe, unfortunately today we made the mistake of booking a table for lunch. The cafe had plenty of free tables, but we were made to feel very uncomfortable when we asked if we could move to another table? We were told they get very busy over lunch and because we were a couple we couldn’t sit on a table of four? Interestingly no other customers were asked to move and subsequently couples entered the cafe sat wherever they wanted!? We were asked when we left if everything was okay, we raised the situation with the member of staff, she just tapped her wrist? Totally spoilt our visit, made us feel undervalued, unwelcome and ruined our experience. Might benefit this particular staff member to undertake some customer service training? The food was exceptional, the environment is wonderful. Unless you are a larger group, don’t book a table just arrive early!
