What a great day out this was! We live in the next village over, so we walked to the George for a pint and ended up staying for a meal. The food was top-notch, the service was friendly, and the location just cannot be beat. Shutford is a gorgeous village and the pub garden has a picture-perfect view. We will absolutely be coming back. Covid-19 safety procedures are in place and we felt completely confident in our safety here.

Hi we were so pleased to celebrate the end of lockdown with a visit to our local. New winter menu was wonderful, I had the special Chicken stew , a very substantial dish. There are lots of lighter but still substantial menu choices to enjoy with a drink or two. Took advantage of the Eat out to Help out scheme whilst on a break near here. Distancing was well observed and they were obviously taking Covid seriously. Menu isn’t overly exciting but the food was delicious and they could not have been more accommodating when I asked for substitutes on my meal. I had the beef chilli which was very tasty, my friend had a veggie curry which she said was very good. Service was efficient and very friendly. Nice selection of gins.

Had not been to this pub before but stopped in after meeting up with friends for a local walk. This is one of the first pubs we’ve been to with COVID measures and it felt really safe. One way system clearly marked, plenty of sanitiser and instructions on what to do. Staff were clearly well-trained and friendly. We sat in the beer garden and enjoyed a few pints of Hooky Gold. Highly recommended for a visit.

My cycling friends and I have used this pub often when we are in need of refreshments after a ride in the summer, the garden catches the late afternoon and evening sun beautifully. Once lockdown eased and we were able to meet up for rides again, this was the first pub any of us had visited in months. We had a few reservations about how it might work, but we needn’t have! Very well managed and we all felt at ease by their precautions and the whole set up. Always a very friendly welcome by all of the staff, very well kept beers and a lovely relaxed atmosphere.

This was my first visit to Shutford and won't be my last. Four of us ate Sunday lunch and had a great meal. My roast sirloin of beef was cooked pinkish just as I like it, and the waitress was fine with my wife asking for hers well done. Service was efficient and friendly. 5 real ales on tap and some unusual ones as well, kept very well and in fine condition. After lunch we watched the rugby in a separate barn which has been converted into a TV room. We were tempted to stay for the pub quiz but the beer got the better of me . Very welcoming ambiance as we walked in and were met by a member of staff and shown to our table. The drinks order was taken and the London Pride I had was spot on, a jug of water was also provided (don't get that very often without asking). The food order was taken and some bread sticks and dip were provided, there wasn't much of a wait before it arrived. I had the fillet steak and it was cooked just as I asked, someone else had the rump and that was perfect too. Sausage and mash and a burger were also ordered and again very good. We ate here with friends on a Friday evening. The restaurant and bar were very busy, and so perhaps the service was a shade slower than it usually would be, but we were in no hurry and were very pleased with the pub/restaurant.The beer (not to be mistaken with lager) was lovely and as we were staying close by, decided to sample a reasonable quantity. The food was ample and very tasty. The quantities were perfectly ample and we could not manage a dessert. Do try the mussels for a starter if they are on the specials menu. The poor waitress was run off her feet, with the restaurant being full, but was charming, so we didn't mind that we had to ask for a couple of things twice (we did leave a good tip so you can tell we were not upset in the slightest). When we sneaked into the pub on Saturday evening for a quick pint, the landord remembered us and apologised for the slow service and explained that on Halloween night (a nasty contrived alien vulgar "tradition" in my humble opinion), it was difficult to get staff. We noted that it had not affected our enjoyment at all and all 6 of us would quite happily return.By the way, we stayed in an excellent holiday cottage approximately 62 seconds walk away, which means supplng a good pint or 6 is an easy and pleasant thing..

Having been here a few times I can attest to the remarkable friendliness of the locals. There seems to be a 'busy hour' between 6 and 7:30 most nights and always a good crowd thronging by the bar to welcome newcomers to the pub.Food is served in both the bar (rather old-school and basic, but appealing all the same) and the restaurant (again slightly school hall-ish but comfortable and fun).Food has varied from good to truly special - never a duff meal, and often the simplest things are the best. The George Burger for instance is thoroughly hand-made and delicious. From a punter's point of view it seems the publican is keen to push the pub forward and there are regular evening and weekend events to participate in and this is reflected in the food too. A special mention for the staff who were natural and extremely friendly.

Have visited the George and Dragon on a few occasions - its a lovely pub with roaring fire and stone floor. Food was good on our previous visits to the restaurant side. On a cold evening we popped in for a quick drink and bar meal. Staff very nice as always, food was not so nice - ordered the fish and chips - chips were nice but the fish was tasteless - all batter and fish grey in colour. Flyers on the tables headed "New Chef". This is a lovely pub but it needs to keep up its standards whether its a bar meal or restaurant.

This is a first rate local pub and restaurant. Great selection of local beers with very friendly staff. You can either eat in the bar or more formally in the restaurant. They have a great menu with a number of daily specials with great prices. Went there last Tuesday and enjoyed the fish and chip supper at the amazing special prioe of just £5. This pub is well worth a visit if you are in the area. Sunday lunches are also a great experience. .

Cracking pub ... wish it was nearer to home....real ales, decent bar menu and quality but simply cooked restaurant food. I ate the seared pigeon and mushroom risotto followed by perfectly cooked venison loin - pink and flavoursome. The wife enjoyed her scallops and chicken supreme!!!!

Following a recommendation we decided to give it a go for a Sunday lunch with some friends especially as Trip Advisor reports also indicated positive feedback. The small dinning room was bright and cheery and the staff welcoming and friendly. The range on the Menu was quite good with tradition roast through to fish as well as a range of starters. These were chosen, scallops, salt and pepper squid and breaded whitebait, all simply presented but well cooked and enjoyed. One plus being that our first choice of wine we all felt was not that nice once poured and there was not a quibble at all about exchanging it for another of a different type ( which proved ok) . A slight negative that one of our party asked for some brown bread ( not offered) with his starter, non available but white was and two slices appeared.Mains of roast sirloin ( advised about it being red) and partridge followed. Plates were not that warm ( some were actually cold) which never helps I feel and were presented complete. We all felt that the beef was well cooked and tender but lacked a little in its flavour. We had to ask for mustard and horseradish. The partridge again was well cooked ( not dry) and flavoursome, but again a game jelly had to be asked for.Two sweets were ordered of which the baked pear was the best.Service was good whilst not overbearing and the prices we all felt represented good value.Overall very adequate and of good value but lacked that extra elements to especially draw you back quickly.

We had an appointment in a nearby village in the early afternoon and wanted a quick lunch. We decided to pop into this pub as it was not far off our route. We didn't want a lot to eat but wanted to make sure we got to ur venue on time so ordered seared scallops and salad starters and followed that with a cheese board to share. The waitress added some crusty bread too. We were delighted. The Butty Bach I chose from the five real ales on offer was a lovely accompaniment and the food was served promptly and in a friendly manner. We were a little but pleasantly surprised to find that the pub is in the Good Food guide and the Michelin guide for 2014. Michelin pubs are a real rarety in the North Oxfrodshire area and this is an accolade that was well deserved on our lunchtime showing. We are determined to return for a proper dinner at another time.

This is a great pub. In the winter, the log fire and friendly atmosphere make for a really nice evening. I've also been a few times this summer and enjoyed the beer garden. Great selection of drinks, including well-kept real ale which is a big plus for my boyfriend. I've eaten here lots, both in the bar and the restaurant, and have never ever been disappointed. Excellent quality food that is clearly prepared from scratch. The staff have always been super-friendly and well-informed about the drinks and the menu. I will keep coming back! I highly recommend it.

I thoroughly recommend this place. I've sampled a beer in here a few times and have always enjoyed the well-kept ale and the friendly atmosphere. There's a nice little beer garden and a great separate room showing Sky Sports at the back of the pub too. I brought my family here for a meal on a Saturday evening a few weeks ago, and the food was terrific. The calamari was better than any I have ever had anywhere before, my lamb main course was very tasty, the service was great, the prices were very reasonable, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. Recommended.

Booked a big table for 14 of us for a family get together and was really impressed with the quality of the Sunday roasts on offer, real, decent cuts of pork and beef like you'd cook at home with all the trimmings. The service was quick and friendly, highly recommend.
