Great village pub. Unfortunately no more fillet steak on the menu, but there are other steak options. Overall menu options are typical country pub, but always cooked to perfection. Friendly staff and a welcoming pub.

I was invited to dinner at The Unicorn in Marden, last Wednesday evening. I had a fantastic time and I have to say the food and service were absolutely first class... Truly amazing food, top notch quality, great wines and beers, and totally superb service. I had the Sausage and Mash followed by an apple crumble with custard. Quite simply outstanding food and clearly all home cooked and crafted with quality in mind. I am absolutely delighted to HIGHLY RECOMMEND The Unicorn in Marden. Go try it! 👍👍👍👍👍 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 Jon Robinson (aka 'Magic Jon')

I've eaten here on multiple occasions as the food is delicious and staff very attentive. Various gluten free options too. The chicken and bacon salad (without the croutons) is delicious. My children also love eating here. It's great for nights out with friends, meals with family as well as brunch. Definitely worth a visit.

Four of us went to The Unicorn for Mother’s Day Sunday Roast. We felt welcomed as soon as we arrived. Great food, all of us had the carvery and all enjoyed it. All staff were friendly and there was a lovely touch at the end, where my friend and I were given a small primrose plant as a Mother’s Day gift.

We attended for the SUnday Lunch Carvery. The food was fantastic, a huge portion of meat, great selection of veggies, lovely gravy and all nice and hot which isn't always the case with a carvery. We did feel the drinks were a little expensive but it didn't take away from the experience, we will come back for sure!

Great pub with fantastic food, especially the fillet steak. It really is good, succulent and cooked as requested. The only problem is that they are charging London prices - this is a country pub. £37 which includes £2 for a pepper sauce. It should be included. If the prices stay high the footfall is going to decrease. Wines are also too expensive. Decent red or white wines in the £15 pound range are very easy to source, so why have wines in starting in the £23+ range. This is a great pub with great staff, they just need to adjust their pricing.

Living locally we were advised to try out the Unicorn, not having been there for a few years. We checked the menu and prices of food and drinks beforehand. So we had some idea about costs. We chose the Sunday carvery which was very good, and the service from the waitress' was also good. But when we came to pay we were shocked at the prices we were charged for two glasses of wine. We ordered a 125ml glass of Sauvignon to begin with. The cost of Sauvignon according to the web site is 4.50 for a 125ml glass. We were charged £7.00 - a £2.50 hike in price. We then ordered a 125ml glass of Merlot - £4.50 on the web site. Web were given a 250ml glass, but hey ho just another £1.50 according to the web site, but no, £9.50 on our bill, (a 3.50 hike at the very least. These prices at exorbitant to say the least nd nowhere near the advertised prices. It'll be a long time before we go back again, despite our close proximity to the pub.

Steak night is fantastic. Fillet steak, thick chips, onion rings and pepper sauce. The fillet is awesome and served by friendly staff, eat in the restaurant or a table in the bar area. Not lived in the village long, but already greeted by the owners and also had a free drink or two too. Some of the dishes are overpriced - chicken salad @£17, but others compensate for this. Came for a meal last minute as couldn’t be bothered to cook as it was too hot. My husband & I were delighted by the beautiful setting of what once used to be a very average pub. It’s so lovely inside - modern, but still maintaining its heritage & character charm. Also, despite many other pubs reducing their menu due to Covid-19 they had an excellent varied menu & the food was delicious & seemed to be all homemade. Plus the portions were huge! I couldn’t eat it all, so they even made me up a doggy bag upon request. I think I’ve found my new regular. Overall great food, atmosphere & staff who were making every effort to keep customers safe with the new rules.A*****

Been many times, food is good, desserts are a bit hit and miss. Service is a shamble in the evening. Lunch time atmosphere is cold and unwelcoming. On our last visit there was no music and the two members of staff looked at us as if we were from another planet when we asked for menus so we could order food. Always the same drunken lady at the bar commenting on every customers orders and conversations. In the evening the atmosphere is friendly and welcoming. Two many staff members running around without knowing what to do, taking food to the wrong tables, partially clearing others, discussing their lack of organisation in the restaurant next to tables. Older waitress is very friendly though. Only been re opened for 8 months so probably haven’t had time to provide training yet!

Lunched here with a group, 19 in all. We'd booked but wer e told we didn't need to pre-order food. Coral took our orders efficiently, and noted that my friend and I needed to be away promptly so asked if our food order could be one of the first to be brought out. It transpired that another member of staff wrote out the orders again, putting all sandwich orders together etc. and the request for our food promptly was not followed through! Almost an hour passed before our food came out, which wasn't a problem when the food is being prepared fresh. Some orders were wrong i.e. brown bread instead of white, and some which were altogether wrong. When the sandwiches were brought out, the edges looked like they were turning up! My tuna mayo sandwich arrived and the top of the bread was dry, almost lightly toasted and warm, as was the small piece of lettuce. I queried whether the sandwich had been sitting on the pass because the bread was dry and it was confirmed that it had been on the pass for a short time! Sandwiches SHOULD NOT be put on the pass, and warm tuna in a sandwich and warm lettuce isn't very pleasant. The offer was made to change it but I said I would eat it as, having waited so long, I needed to get away promptly. The basket of chips, accompanying the sandwich, had been salted which was disappointing as I don't take salt, although the chips were nicely crisp. I would rather it was left to the customer to salt their food, if they require salt.

We visited for an evening meal having heard good things but found a bit of a mixed bag in our experience, the gentleman that greeted us was friendly and very helpful, the decor is a lot warmer and more in keeping with the building however we were disappointed with the cooking of the food my chicken was dry the skin limp and was served with no sauce or gravy we enquired as to whether the lemon and thyme sauce that was advertised and the main reason I chose it had been forgotten and we were told that it was cooked in lemon and thyme rather than in a sauce (not what it says on the menu at all) but sadly that was not the case there wasn’t a hint of flavour or and bits of herb on the chicken or even any roasting juices, there was a huge pile of new potatoes but they were hard and again with out any sauce or gravy just dry, the “local” veg was 3 carrot slices and one floret of broccoli and one floret of cauliflower served in a ramekin and then a salad on the plate which was just odd. The sausage and mash was ok but “buttery mash it was not buttery in-fact it was a bit lumpy and a bit dry the sausages were very nice. All that said the portions were huge and very reasonably priced but I would rather have less of something cooked well.

Didn't think this pub could get much worse after the refurbishment to make a pub with character and atmosphere into a bland soulless pub. I was wrong, after the latest takeover it really couldn't get any worse. We went here for father's day for a Sunday roast today after leaving the west end tavern because they had stopped doing food at 2. We went from a busy pub with live music and a buzzing atmosphere to a pub with hardly any customers and zero atmosphere. I ordered the vegetable Wellington roast being a veggie to be told there was no veggie gravy so had a very dry roast! The Wellington was obviously frozen and not home cooked and had no taste. My three children barely touched their food. We had to escape to the garden to escape a very drunk man only to discover dog mess by two of the tables and the garden looking like a jungle. We won't be returning any time soon.

Popped in for a quick bite with a friend. Lovely friendly service - thank you Verity. Nothing too much trouble and served promptly despite the sudden arrival of a large group of people. I look forward to trying the new menu, particularly given the thought to veggie/vegan choices.

Can't fault the staff at all. We where made to feel very welcome especially seeing as we had a 20 month old toddler with us. Food was fantastic and service was brilliant. Didn't have to wait long for the best Sunday roast I've ever had. And I'm fussy when it comes to roasts. Fantastic to see this pub becoming a family venue once more. We will definitely be back. A+

I took my other half along here to celebrate his birthday along with our children 17 and 1, although there was no children's menu they were very accommodating in what they could offer her. The camembert was delicious and an amazing Sunday roast. The service was very good and friendly. Will definitely be back

As a Marden resident was excited to visit the pub following takeover. Family wanted to eat, it was around 5.00pm the problem was not all were starving so just fancied a light bite, was told by the Manager sandwiches and light bites are not an option only food from the menu, which is very limited and expensive tbh. It is also not clean and the attitude from non interested staff was appalling. Won’t be rushing back there!!!!

Arrived a little before our booking for our sunday roasts and the staff were very accomodating and made sure we had enough space for a pram and high chair. Ordered a prawn cocktail and two camembert that were perfectly cooked right to the centre! The mains (two beef and a chicken) were an absolute dream, draped in thick, tasty gravy. Thank you to all the staff at The Unicorn for a delicious meal in a relaxed and friendly setting!

Having looked at the menu on the website we were expecting a family friendly meal. We arrived at an empty pub on sunny bank holiday evening to be given a printed A4 sheet with about six choices, no options for vegetarians or children's portioned. When we questioned the staff they said there was a new owner who had not got a full menu or changed the website.

This pub has gone downhill since it's been under new management the boss he spends to much time fiddling with his beard instead of making some half decent food !!!

Chilston Manor hotel is a lovely hotel with friendly staff but I and my husband were very disappointed with what they call a luxury afternoon tea…we had three little finger sandwich's with hardly any filling in them….dry scones…what was nice was the sausage roll,we had to ask for the tea as it didn’t arrive, when it did it was stewed & strong…will be returning NO !!!!

Phoned the day before and was told that we didn't need to book a table in order to eat, yet the following day we turned up and was refused food as we hadn't booked a table, even though we were told not to book the day before, wasn't able to book one there and then either, staff weren't accommodating and actually quite rude. We ended up going to the fish & chips

What a dirty horrible place everything seems and feels grimly. No body clearing tables. And some staff training in customer service wouldn’t go a miss.

UPDATE… This store has been run into the ground, the lovely staff members have all left, one very nice young man “sacked” for a pathetic reason. We now go to Sainsbury’s and buy large rolls and fillings and make our own. What can one say.... it’s a big roll with filling. Staff mostly friendly. Can run low on fillings towards the end of the day.
